I stopped by the Northstar Cafe, to watch the SF Giants game, and I had such a wonderful experience. The bartender was delightful and attentive; the regulars added a spice of joy and entertainment. The drinks were also reasonably priced, especially for SF standards. I would recommend this spot for locals, sports enthusiasts and visitors alike. read more

We had time to kill before seeing Dear SF and, while we first eyed The Boardroom, Northstar wooed us across the street with its shady seating. Love the parklet because it was an absolutely gorgeous day and so we were able to enjoy our pre-theater drinks outside while also catching some of the World Circus Day festivities happening in front of Club Fugazi. Bonus! The bartender was super nice, quick, and remembered our beverage preferences which is always a nice touch. While I know not every day is World Circus Day, I'd still intentionally arrive early for another show at Club Fugazi just to fit in another visit to Northstar. read more

How about you check with the patron before you decide to ask security to escort them out. I was not a nuisance or acting up. Was just sitting at the bar drinking my drink and bar staff decided it was time for me to go... and had security to escort me out with no warning. Kind of crazy and will not be coming back to this establishment. read more

Great North Beach neighborhood bar with good cocktails & cold beer. Philadelphia Eagles spot. No food served here but you can bring in your own from 1 of the many surrounding restaraunts. Casual, friendly vibes read more

Great place to watch the game with friends. The staff works so hard to make the set up outside great on busy days. They constantly fill the water pitchers, clean tables and take orders. It's easy to access the inside bar too! Thank you Northstar Cafe and Go Broncos. read more

If you're a Philadelphia Eagles fan living in or visiting San Francisco, The North Star Café in North Beach is your place. This isn't just a bar--it's a home base. A sanctuary. A full-throttle, green-bleeding, fight-song-belting hub of Philly pride on the West Coast. Every Eagles game day, the back of the bar transforms into Birdgang SF territory--aka the most authentic Philadelphia Eagles crew in the city. These aren't bandwagon fans. These are the real deal. Folks from Philly, Jersey, and South Central PA who brought the 700 level energy straight to North Beach. Jerseys everywhere. High fives after every big play. And yeah, someone is absolutely screaming "Dallas Sucks" before kickoff. What makes it even better? The people. Birdgang SF is welcoming, passionate, and fun--they'll make sure any true Birds fan feels like family. And if you're new? Don't worry. Someone (probably Jimbo) will say hi, hand you a sticker, and scream the "E-A-G-L-E-S" chant with you like you've known each other for years. The bar itself doesn't serve food, but there's a place across the street that delivers with a buzzer system--super easy. You're in North Beach, so you're surrounded by Italian eats if you want to bring your own food. Bottom line: Whether you're homesick for Philly or just want to watch the game with people who get it, The North Star is the only place in SF that truly feels like a slice of the Linc. Go Birds. read more

Northstar is the place to be. Great vibes, amazing service, and even better drinks. The perfect spot to pregame at, or spend the whole night out at. Love the outside seating area and the pool table. If you look hard enough, you might see my face on the wall for May 2024 Customers of the Month :-) Give their sister bar, Shanghai Kelly's, a visit too. read more

A great spot to watch the Duke/UNC game. Lots of duke fans. Good drink prices, great spots to sit outside.

Are you an E.A.G.L.E.S. Fan? Enough said, Dickhead! Welcome to the party. A truly welcoming group of individuals whether you're from Philly or just a fan of all things Eagles. This group led by Mayor Jimbo will start your week off right. The bartenders and servers are a well-oiled hyper friendly machine that make you feel at home! Cheers to Chelsea and her fucked up indoctrination shot. Can't wait until the Super Bowl! GO BIRDS! read more

I enjoy watching games here and I really appreciate that they play the game audio (for March Madness e.g.). My last experience here though turned me off a bit, as I discovered on my credit card statement that they quadrupled the tip amount that I wrote in on my receipt (and I have the photo of the receipt to prove it). I hope this was an honest mistake, but none of the digits are the same, so that seems unlikely. A bit sketch. read more

Came here on a Saturday night a few weeks ago with one of my girlfriends and decided to sit at the bar. There was a female bartender who took our order and made our drinks for us; she was great. However, an older white male bartender (old enough to be my father) appeared to be very drunk and kept coming over to interrupt the conversation my friend and I were having. He even thought that it was appropriate to ask what song we lost our virginities to. We made it clear we were uncomfortable and still he would not leave us alone. I won't be coming back. read more

What a fantastic place to watch a game on a Sunday morning/afternoon. I caught a recent Buffalo Bills game with my wife, who is from NY state. We were in town visiting family and really enjoyed the chance to sit outside, feel the breeze, and take in the action. They have a great setup with a series of TVs on the sidewalk and ample seating available. The inside got pretty packed, but that works well for some people. You can bring your own food from one of the many restaurants and cafes nearby if you are sitting outside, which gave things a very casual feel. The servers mostly leave you alone, other than running by with cheers when the Bills score. My wife got a Bloody Mary, which she liked, and also was a fun treat before a 10am kickoff. There is also a small Philadelphia Eagles corner of the bar. read more

I was introduced to Northstar a few years ago by some friends in the city who are also huge Buffalo Bills fans. So now every year we make the trip from Tahoe to make sure we catch a Bills game at Northstar. (It's a Bills backer bar in case that wasn't clear by me mentioning the Bills so much.) This place has a vibrant clientele who are very serious about their football. And I love it. They serve Labatt Blue and a mean Aperol Spritz. They don't serve food, but if you grab something at a nearby restaurant you can just bring it in and eat it while you are watching your game and drinking suds with friends. The bartenders are nice guys, but it helps to remember that this is a speed bar and you can tell that they are hustling hard so you probably won't be getting any lengthy conversations out of them. But that's okay. Drink up and enjoy this neighborhood watering hole! read more

Was recently in town for my 30th from Buffalo and realized I needed a place to watch the Bills play on Sunday. Took the cable car up and walked a few blocks. Bartenders here treated me great, and one of the few places to get Labatt Blue (but no Blue Light!) in the city! This is a must stop bar if you're in SF during football season if you're a Bills fan!! read more

Great old neighborhood pub a block off Columbus St. near North Beach and China Town. Ball game on the tv inside and a comfortable sidewalk beer drinking space outside, in view of Columbus St. and classic SF urban activity. The staff was friendly, prices were fair and the other patrons seemed equally appreciative of the pleasant environment. read more

Great bar to watch the LSU game while in San Francisco. Place was packed. You can bring food in if you'd like. Great atmosphere.

They don't let you roll up weed. But let people roll up cigs... i hate this place... I say go to another bar tbh...

Safety hazard, my life was in danger. I was unable to use the exit door and was verbally attacked and assaulted by an employee b/c he said it was apparent the door wasn't an exit even though the door was a door and it's used for entrance and/or exit and there was an Exit lighted sign above it. Another lady exited the door earlier so our group and I thought it was ok. The employee from the bar told us not to come back and that it would as obvious it wasn't an exit in a very aggressive manner (uncalled for). He proceeded to shove one of our group members and told him not to exit there. Very unprofessional, aggressive, rude mannerism. Uncalled for 100%! Never have to experienced this in SF! read more

An incredible, old school bar with terrific service and a casual, fun vibe. Not a huge place. Immediately after entering in the southeast corner of the building, you are greeted but the main area and bar. The bar is along the north wall and has maybe 8-10 padded stools with no back support. There is a square footrest in front of the wooden bar face. The bar top is wooden with a medium wooden rail. The back bar contains mostly bottle shelves, signs, and HDTVs. Past the bar is a pool table and some weird outdoor bench seating with thin tables between them. Great location in Little Italy. read more

Great deal and packed to the gils with folks partying! It's a real scene here and as long as you're ready to just let loose, you're going to have fun too. Now that they have sidewalk seating too, it's nice that there's so much more space and open air to breath while still enjoying the atmosphere. LOVE that it's so close to so many other bars too so you can easily make a whole night out of this neighborhood. Pro tip: they don't seem to mind if you bring food over from another place. We got late night pizza delivered and they were totally cool with it while we continued to drink and order more. read more

Ventured in here randomly one night, great spot, lively crowd. Fun music, good vibes.

The bartenders here are jerks to their customers for no reason at all. Bad vibes. No reason to go here when you can go across the street to the Boardroom where the bartenders appreciate your business and make better drinks. read more

They have a music machine. If they don't the like the song you play - the turn it off. I played Dirty water ONE TIME after the warriors lose and the bartender STEALS MY MONEY and turns it off. Used to come here in my college years and was stoked to bring my friend to recap old times . However when i purchased a beer, as soon as I turned my back a new bartender appeared and handed my beer to a man down the bar once I paid and turned my back . As a woman of color, this felt sketchy af . I told him I purchased said beer and he told me to "calm down" and misunderstood that A man three ppl down at the bar hadn't ordered it -I'm writing this as a warning to any women who might attend. My friend alerted me to this sketchy behavior and noted it seemed rehearsed and we pondered if it wasn't all set up to take advantage of women who aren't well aware . Will never come back read more

It's a nasty, bro-ey, and cheap dive bar. As long as you know what you're getting into, it's a pretty good exemplar of the genre. The mulligan shot is bright green, only $3, and much to sweet. There will be bros. THere's also a bunch of "customer of the month" photo-shopped things on the walls that are pretty funny. I cringe to think how one earns their place there. read more

Any place that spins good music. Has a juke-box Has friendly bar staff, that are quick to refill your water glass. Has a kind bouncer - that allows you to bring in food. Has free popcorn. Is a place worth visiting. Trust. read more

2:09am: Just got back from Northstar (walked home, only a few blocks away). Still enjoying the drunken state. Bottomless beers (FREE refills for me and my roommate) = Pure Happiness! Yes, we had a never-ending glass of beer, when we were low, Marc (the bartender) will grab our glasses and refill it with beer... not once, not twice, but 4 times! Marc is nice, not sleazy, but very friendly and many of the drinkers knew him. He's super cool and complimented us about our 'lids' (roommate and I were both wearing unique Goorin hats). When guys will come up to my friend and me to buy us drinks, Marc was there to tell them to leave us alone, plus we didn't need random men buying us drinks. I hate standing up when I drink, so we were lucky that we scored prime real estate seats right by the bar. The bar is small, good space though and pretty crowded. First thing I thought of when I walked in... Marina, I thought I was in the Marina because of the frat boys and Blondies. As the night went on, I started noticing that there was a good mix of people including college kids, locals and an older crowd. $4 beers on tap and $3 for Pabst, why not call it PBR, I don't know... I hear Northstar usually have free popcorn, but last night, there was none, therefore I was a bit disappointed. At the end of the night, I didn't care about the popcorn anymore and just enjoyed my time by watching three different sports of television and checking out some of the cute boys -- great eye candy :-)! WARNING: One of the bartender is a Boston Redsox (Redsucks) fan... BOO! read more

Best bar to pull up a stool at the bar and hang out with the super cool bartenders and drunks who stay close to the bar for quick access to drinks? Northstar! Northstar! Northstar! Two weekends in a row I have tried this tactic and it guarantees extra Jaeger bombs and other excitement. Basically, if you are the closest girl at this bar, someone will buy you a shot and/or cocktail... Halloween night, I decked myself out in Girl Scout attire complete with a box of Girl Scout cookies (they were actually Halloween cookies which I claimed were the Girl Scout Halloween special). I made quick friends with everyone by offering them the cookies including one of the bartenders. In exchange for a $.50 cookie, he offered me free drinks. Awesome! I had a lot of fun grabbing the huge fake boobs of one of my friends too...! read more

After years as a regular, I'm finally writing a review. This place has definitely changed as the city developed. I starting coming to this bar when I turned 21. 6 years later, I'm still loving it. First off, the bartenders are amazing. All of them are super friendly and are very genuine people. This dive bar tends to have a lot of regulars. Many of them live in the neighborhood and many of them are from Italy. During the week, pool is free. They also serve free popcorn if you ask. Drinks are cheap and service is quick. I've noticed throughout the years that more "bros" are hanging out at this bar, specifically on the weekends. It tends to get suuuuuper busy on the weekends, so be prepared if you don't like crowded areas. I tend to just come on Sundays or during the week. Their bathroom is tiny, one stall of guys and one for girls, but honestly, I've never had to wait long to use the restroom, and it's kept relatively clean considering how crowded it can get. Even though I no longer live in the city, I try to drop by whenever I'm back. Overall, if you want a chill dive bar to hang out at with some awesome, down to earth bartenders, come here! read more
