We had time to kill before seeing Dear SF and, while we first eyed The Boardroom, Northstar wooed us across the street with its shady seating. Love the parklet because it was an absolutely gorgeous day and so we were able to enjoy our pre-theater drinks outside while also catching some of the World Circus Day festivities happening in front of Club Fugazi. Bonus! The bartender was super nice, quick, and remembered our beverage preferences which is always a nice touch. While I know not every day is World Circus Day, I'd still intentionally arrive early for another show at Club Fugazi just to fit in another visit to Northstar. read more

My last experience here though turned me off a bit, as I discovered on my credit card statement that they quadrupled the tip amount that I wrote in on my receipt (and I have the photo of the receipt to prove it). Bartenders here treated me great, and one of the few places to get Labatt Blue (but no Blue Light!) in the city! Came here on a Saturday night a few weeks ago with one of my girlfriends and decided to sit at the bar. There was a female bartender who took our order and made our drinks for us; she was great. However, an older white male bartender (old enough to be my father) appeared to be very drunk and kept coming over to interrupt the conversation my friend and I were having. He even thought that it was appropriate to ask what song we lost our virginities to. We made it clear we were uncomfortable and still he would not leave us alone. I won't be coming back. read more

What a fantastic place to watch a game on a Sunday morning/afternoon. I caught a recent Buffalo Bills game with my wife, who is from NY state. We were in town visiting family and really enjoyed the chance to sit outside, feel the breeze, and take in the action. They have a great setup with a series of TVs on the sidewalk and ample seating available. The inside got pretty packed, but that works well for some people. You can bring your own food from one of the many restaurants and cafes nearby if you are sitting outside, which gave things a very casual feel. The servers mostly leave you alone, other than running by with cheers when the Bills score. My wife got a Bloody Mary, which she liked, and also was a fun treat before a 10am kickoff. I was introduced to Northstar a few years ago by some friends in the city who are also huge Buffalo Bills fans. So now every year we make the trip from Tahoe to make sure we catch a Bills game at Northstar. (It's a Bills backer bar in case that wasn't clear by me mentioning the Bills so much.) This place has a vibrant clientele who are very serious about their football. And I love it. They serve Labatt Blue and a mean Aperol Spritz. They don't serve food, but if you grab something at a nearby restaurant you can just bring it in and eat it while you are watching your game and drinking suds with friends. The bartenders are nice guys, but it helps to remember that this is a speed bar and you can tell that they are hustling hard so you probably won't be getting any lengthy conversations out of them. Safety hazard, my life was in danger. I was unable to use the exit door and was verbally attacked and assaulted by an employee b/c he said it was apparent the door wasn't an exit even though the door was a door and it's used for entrance and/or exit and there was an Exit lighted sign above it. Another lady exited the door earlier so our group and I thought it was ok. The employee from the bar told us not to come back and that it would as obvious it wasn't an exit in a very aggressive manner (uncalled for). He proceeded to shove one of our group members and told him not to exit there. Very unprofessional, aggressive, rude mannerism. Uncalled for 100%! Never have to experienced this in SF! read more

An incredible, old school bar with terrific service and a casual, fun vibe. Not a huge place. Immediately after entering in the southeast corner of the building, you are greeted but the main area and bar. The bar is along the north wall and has maybe 8-10 padded stools with no back support. There is a square footrest in front of the wooden bar face. The bar top is wooden with a medium wooden rail. The back bar contains mostly bottle shelves, signs, and HDTVs. Past the bar is a pool table and some weird outdoor bench seating with thin tables between them. Great location in Little Italy. read more

Great deal and packed to the gils with folks partying! It's a real scene here and as long as you're ready to just let loose, you're going to have fun too. Now that they have sidewalk seating too, it's nice that there's so much more space and open air to breath while still enjoying the atmosphere. LOVE that it's so close to so many other bars too so you can easily make a whole night out of this neighborhood. Pro tip: they don't seem to mind if you bring food over from another place. However when i purchased a beer, as soon as I turned my back a new bartender appeared and handed my beer to a man down the bar once I paid and turned my back . As a woman of color, this felt sketchy af . I told him I purchased said beer and he told me to "calm down" and misunderstood that A man three ppl down at the bar hadn't ordered it -I'm writing this as a warning to any women who might attend. 2:09am: Just got back from Northstar (walked home, only a few blocks away). Still enjoying the drunken state. Bottomless beers (FREE refills for me and my roommate) = Pure Happiness! Yes, we had a never-ending glass of beer, when we were low, Marc (the bartender) will grab our glasses and refill it with beer... not once, not twice, but 4 times! Marc is nice, not sleazy, but very friendly and many of the drinkers knew him. He's super cool and complimented us about our 'lids' (roommate and I were both wearing unique Goorin hats). When guys will come up to my friend and me to buy us drinks, Marc was there to tell them to leave us alone, plus we didn't need random men buying us drinks. I hate standing up when I drink, so we were lucky that we scored prime real estate seats right by the bar. The bar is small, good space though and pretty crowded. First thing I thought of when I walked in... Marina, I thought I was in the Marina because of the frat boys and Blondies. As the night went on, I started noticing that there was a good mix of people including college kids, locals and an older crowd. $4 beers on tap and $3 for Pabst, why not call it PBR, I don't know... I hear Northstar usually have free popcorn, but last night, there was none, therefore I was a bit disappointed. At the end of the night, I didn't care about the popcorn anymore and just enjoyed my time by watching three different sports of television and checking out some of the cute boys -- great eye candy :-)! Halloween night, I decked myself out in Girl Scout attire complete with a box of Girl Scout cookies (they were actually Halloween cookies which I claimed were the Girl Scout Halloween special). After years as a regular, I'm finally writing a review. This place has definitely changed as the city developed. I starting coming to this bar when I turned 21. 6 years later, I'm still loving it. First off, the bartenders are amazing. All of them are super friendly and are very genuine people. This dive bar tends to have a lot of regulars. Many of them live in the neighborhood and many of them are from Italy. During the week, pool is free. They also serve free popcorn if you ask. Drinks are cheap and service is quick. I've noticed throughout the years that more "bros" are hanging out at this bar, specifically on the weekends. It tends to get suuuuuper busy on the weekends, so be prepared if you don't like crowded areas. I tend to just come on Sundays or during the week. Their bathroom is tiny, one stall of guys and one for girls, but honestly, I've never had to wait long to use the restroom, and it's kept relatively clean considering how crowded it can get. Even though I no longer live in the city, I try to drop by whenever I'm back. Overall, if you want a chill dive bar to hang out at with some awesome, down to earth bartenders, come here! read more

This place is awesome on Sundays during the NFL season. The front of the bar is represented by Buffalo Bills fans and the back is represented by the Philadelphia Eagles. I'm an Eagles fan and somehow this works. Everyone there is polite and relaxed. Drinks are cheap? Check. The bartenders are cool, normal and serve you in a timely manner. It's everything you want in a 'dive' bar. It's a cool, incognito spot in a touristy area. There is no food but they occasionally do something on the weekend but it really doesn't matter because there are a ton of places in the area to grab a bite. If you are a Bills fan or an Eagles fan I think you should definitely go there. Think the Kezar Pub without the prices or shitty beer (or service). It's a North Beach bar without the annoying bro's (didn't mean to offend anyone). There is always a friendly, laid back, knowledgeable sports crowd there. They have a pool table in the back.
