They wr code for the restaurant next door but they are okay for you to bring outside food. As for the drinks, they have beers, cocktails, and wine or take a shot if you want too as well. They have a pool table and jukebox if you want to play music. The staffs are nice but they can get busy once the place started to get busy. Prices are decent/average. read more

Cool place in the Marina for a drink. They have outdoor and indoor seating available. You can order and pay for your drink via your phone! Just scan the QR code at your table and your order will be placed using their payment processer, Cheqout. I do like the contactless option and it makes it a whole lot easier for the bar to process drink orders. Heard of a former colleague of mine liked to come here so I had to see it for myself. After coming here on and off for the past few months I understand why he likes this place. Bartenders are nice and will chat with you if you start up a conversation. Decent amount of beers on tap (can/bottle too) and they have some signature cocktails. However I am into simple drinks (whiskey guy) so I do not know how they taste. Either way they have a billiard table, juke box, and plenty of TV's so this is a great place to hang out. Overall this is a great local bar that I make a point to visit when I am in the area. Typically after having lunch at Blackwood. Funny enough I am posting this on St. Patrick's Day. Monaghan's feels like one of those stops you just have to make it into when you head to the Marina. It's got a fun atmosphere, a young crowd, friendly bar tenders, and a decent amount of seating. There is usually just tv's playing whatever sports games on in the background. This is one of those bars you kinda sit around and hang around and talk to people in... if you can hear them. It gets quite loud in there on busier nights. I'd recommend you try to come early and sag a nice table with stools to hang out. They don't play music or have room for you to dance in. I'm knocking this place down a little bit, I would have given it 4 if not for the sheer crowdedness of it and the difficulty of the congestion at the door. It's hard to get in and hard to get out on a crowded night. You almost have to push and shove your way in, which as a 5'2 girl you really don't want to have to do. It does turn into a bit of a sauna and a nice flip of the AC would really do good for this place. read more

Monaghans is a decently large sports bar with a pool table, virtual golf, a jukebox and reasonably priced drinks. The bar, itself, has nice character and feels almost like a pub (maybe it is!). - Beer is in the $6 to $7 range which is about right for the establishment and the area. My Jamie on the rocks were about $7 / pour too. - Super friendly bartenders. I was surprised how well staffed the bar was on a Tuesday night, possibly for the MLB playoffs? - Located just south of Chestnut so you can get yo drank on after a breakfast, lunch or dinner. - If you're on that liquid diet (i.e. Me), the bar gives free popcorn which is perfect for the drunchies. This is a great bar in the Marina, and not the typical Marina meat market. It does get a little packed on the weekends, but Monday's are great for the Trivia night. On Sundays, don't expect to watch your football game if the Bears are playing, unless they're playing the Bears - at least not with any volume :) Five stars to the staff! read more

One of the better bars on Chestnut, except for the fact its shoulder to shoulder. Long, well-staffed bar. Drinks come pretty quickly once you work your way to the bar. Stopped in here some day time drinking after my pitiful excuse for lunch at Grove and sat far away from the screaming woo people by the giant window, next to my people: the nerd with the laptop and the two salty dogs. Well drinks were an obnoxious 5 dollars, but they had some decent beer specials on domestics. Not a bad place, but I felt dirty listening to Nirvana in a sports bar (after knowing the absolute hatred Kurt Cobain had for jocks) and then hearing the Postal Service. I knew that Ben Gibbard now belongs to THEM, but it's never really been imprinted in my brain until the moment I saw the hoochies dancing to "Such Great Heights". Whatever. Why do so many people love this place and refer to it as a dive bar?? It's a good thing I came here with good company, because I pretty much wanted to slap everyone else here in the face. I came here on a weekend night (mistake). It was some girl's themed birthday party (I could distinguish the birthday girl because of the tiara, obviously), and the girls were all screeching and the guys were high-fiving left and right between jager bombs. I love a good "dive bar", but people, this is not a dive bar and therefore the bathrooms should really not be that disgusting. There was an inch of what I hope was water on the floor, and that's if you can even get through the line. I have been here once before on an afternoon and it was fine. I would definitely suggest avoiding this place like the plague on a weekend, unless you feel like being in the middle of a striped shirt frenzy. read more

Be aware of purse thieves! - The bar was super crowded on Saturday night and it was almost impossible to walk towards the back where my friends were. Everything was going well until my nice clutch, with my iPhone inside, was stolen from our table :( It happened in a matter of seconds, and the massive crowd helped the thief go unnoticed. One of the bartenders asked me to leave my number in case they found it after cleaning but I never got a call......I guess they never found it. All I can say is be aware of your surroundings and hold onto your personal items at all times. This is the first time I've had something stolen and it stinks big time! read more

I like Monaghan's well enough - plenty of room to move, and very friendly bartenders. But we all have issues.... At Monaghan's the issue was discovered when my idiot Chicago friends decided it was time for some Malort. There is NO MALORT at Monaghan's, a so-called "Chicago bar". Hey Monaghan's, why no Malort??? Get some Malort or stop selling yourself as a "Chicago bar". So we had to do a hard target internet search and take a Lyft to the Wreck Room to get some Malort. All in all Monaghan's is aiiiight, but minus one star for no Malort and minus one star because i had to take a goddamned Lyft to the goddamned Wreck Room to get my goddamned friends their goddamned Malort....
