I've really been pushing to buy everything locally instead of on Amazon, at Walmart, etc. I called the other day inquiring about getting some additional straps to secure my bikes to my trunk mount rack - the person on the phone advised "Well your rack should have straps on it" and he argued with me a little bit about how I wanted some extras to keep it safe, and he advised "well we don't sell bungie cords", which is not what I was looking for. Thule sells extra bike straps on their website- these things exist. Then I asked if they had covers for it to keep the bikes from getting dirty when you drive with them on the rack. His reply: "That's the price you pay for carrying your bikes on the back of the car." Extra straps and covers exist, so I'm not sure why the attitude was necessary. Needless to say I'm not going to shop there going forward- I don't appreciate being spoken down to. read more

So I am very unimpressed by this shop. I walked in as soon as they opened looking to have a chain repaired repaired. I just don't have the tool two guys are in there shooting the breeze no other customers. I told him I was on my way for a bike trip and I could use a hand, they said I would have to leave it. This job will take about five minutes. Bottom line is I wanted to support a new local bike shop I will never go back there again. Terrible customer service. read more

Brought a Trek mountain bike in for a tune-up, tires, and a new cassette and chain. The shop graciously expedited the work so my son would have a bike to ride when he arrived in town. The shop even replaced a shifter cover that had gone missing some time ago. Rode the bike home when the work was completed. You would think the bike was new. Smooth shifting, effective braking, and a comfortable ride. Very pleased with the results! read more

What a pleasure it was working one on one with the owner of Northstar Bikes and Sports. There's a comfort level here that can't be matched anywhere else. It's a small shop and you won't find thousands of bikes to choose from. But you'll find someone who is honest and dedicated to full service. That's hard to find. I spent under $300 for a quality bike for my 9 year old granddaughter. I was treated the same way as if I was spending thousands of dollars. They offer a full repair shop, so I know that adjustments can be made. Also I found out that the original location was on Transit Rd in Lockport. I actually bought a bike from them many years ago and didn't connect the dots. I'm a Lockport guy so that's a plus for me read more

I received a critical comment from a fellow Yelper about this review just yesterday. He is a bike mechanic. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend or write misinformation. Much of what I wrote was opinion, my opinion. Reviews on a yelp are just that for the most part- opinions. I did appreciate Chris and his expertise. I may be wrong, perhaps he's not also the owner of the bike shop in Clarence. When he returned my call from the exact phone number associated with the Clarence store, a number that I had called and saved on my iPhone, I assumed he was also the owner of the Clarence store. This didn't matter, it was a side point in my review. As for saving $20 on EBay for the bike rack: I'm not in the habit of shopping for items via the Internet truly. I never buy clothing or personal accessories off the Internet. A bike rack is an item I don't get excited over, a piece of equipment. So I did check on EBay. I happened to be a saving a little. As a single parent, I need to watch my pennies. So I bought the accessory bike rack from EBay. With all this said, next time I need to buy a bike itself, I would return to Chris and his local store. I still enjoy the used bike I bought from him. He's not a bad guy at all, I do support his business and do recommend others to go there. I would never, and have never, bought a bike from Walmart. I found this bike shop when my Dad mentioned it to me. They were very responsive and did a great job assembling my Poseiden X. So much easier to work with than Bert's who I find to be pretentious and will only wait on you if you have a $1,000 bill hanging out your pocket. They put on a new ring gear for me in hours. I went up to the Arctic and got attacked by a Polar Bear. Do you want to see my "Northscar?" It's pretty impressive. And in case you think scars are hot, I'm single. Singly annoying, I should say. According to some of the Buffalo Yelpers anyway. Luckily I'm leaving Buffalo soon... hopefully the Houston and Los Angeles Yelpers will find me less annoying. Somehow I don't think so. I've been in here many times, and when I am buying a new bike in Buffalo, this is where I buy it from. The guys are very helpful indeed. I love Northstar Bikes. They're very friendly and will let you ride their bikes around the block to try them out. Their prices are just a little too high and their opening hours are very restricted so for this reason I'll give them a 4 instead of 5. But certainly I've never found a better bike store in the area. This place reminds me of my Dad's old bike store back in England. Excellent. read more

One of a few local bike shops and they're always good to patronize versus going online . Been here half a dozen times and for parts, pieces, and questions. Unfortunately doesn't have the LBS vibe handlebars or wheelworks have. About half the time I've been charged pretty crazy prices for low end componentry that I needed right then. I've been mischarged radically for bottom brackets when buying tubes, and somewhat ignored when asking questions about parts or working on a bike. Handlebars is close, I'd rather go there. However, NS isn't Berts and has that going for them. read more

Had a LivingSocial Deal from these guys to get a $50 bike tune-up for $25 along with $20 of merchandise for $10. Since I just bought a bike from my buddy and it needed work, their deal came at the perfect time. I called up Wednesday to bring it in. Went in about half hour before closing to drop it off. Guys didn't seemed rushed at all to get me out and took time to talk to me about what's going on with the bike. Explained how I just got it off my friend and haven't really road it and that I got the LivingSocial Deal for the tune-up. He took down my info and then did a quick overview of the bike. Noticed it needed grips and a rear tire. (even I could see that, so seems he was being honest and telling me what he could easily see was wrong.) Helped me pick out a mid-grade street tire and grips. I asked if I could use the deals together and he said no prob. (fine print did say had to be used on separate occasions, so was bit worried they might not) Was told they had what they needed and it may be Saturday before its ready. Told him that was fine and went on my way. Got the call yesterday that it was all set. One day turn around when expected three was bonus. Everything went smooth with these guys when I picked up the bike. They noticed the rear shifter cable was shot, so put one in at $6.99. I had them clean it for $10 too and it looked pretty sharp. Paid and went on my way. Got home and took the bike for a spin and it was definitely in much better shape. It was shifting beautifully, brakes were tight now, and the new tire with gears being cleaned had it riding nice and quiet. Seems to me these guys did a great job. If you live in north towns and need some bike work, these guys seem like a good local shop to bring yours too. read more

My husband & I shopped for bikes all over town and Northstar Bikes got our business for a number of reasons: the owner is always near the door to say hello, the staff immediately stop what they are doing (assembling bikes) and they have lots of different style bikes and options to choose from. Take any bike for a ride, take another bike, they don't care, their focus is you getting the best fit bike for your journey. Don't waste your time with the other local vendors, this business is where you should spend your money. The bike prices are not the lowest, nor the highest, they are fair, and the quality is superior. read more

North star bikes is one of thouse shops that makes you feel like family. They don't talk down to you but they talk TO you. Was looking for a cruiser for a project and stopped in for some info on it. Told them Craig's list just had Wal-Mart type bikes avalible. In my opinion toy quality bike. Chris told me about a used bike they had. Looked at it and asked if I could take it for a spin. Sure go ahead. I came back all smiles, and bought it. Put cash down and came back, and wanted a diffrent rear wheel. No problem Chris said. Well I'll be back more in the future. I'm coming from lockport to Tonawanda. That sums up my feelings for North star bikes. Id rather drive 20 min and be treated like family. It's a no brainer. I went in on a Saturday to look for a used bike about an hour before they closed. The place was busy and they sold 5 new bikes just in the time I was there. Despite that, they spent just as much time with me as they did with new bike customers spending hundreds more. I purchased the bike "as is", got a great price and despite that, the owner & young man that sold it to me made sure that everything worked, was properly adjusted, and safe. I'm up in this area 2 weeks a month and just wanted something to ride the bike path with, but based on the bike they sold me and how its set up, I'm excited to get back into cycling (was into it seriously many years ago). That being said, and living in the Boston area, I would buy my new bike from these guys and haul it back to Boston based on their outstanding customer service, knowledge level, and quality of the personnel and shop. I purchased my Giant Roam 3 from the location on eggert rd the salesman was very helpful in explaining things about the bike. I really like the hybrid that I purchased. I would highly recommend visiting this bike shop even if you just have a flat and next it fixed. They fix all types of bikes from kid's two wheelers to racing bikes. Very good and professional staff. They always have great prices and deliver the bike back BEFORE the date they promised. The workmanship is excellent, the prices terrific. They are the best shop around. Bad experience. I ordered a bike from this company, paying a $300 deposit, on 3/3/21 and was told it would be in by the end of April or May. I called towards the end of May and they were unable to give me a date it was expected in, stating I would pay a 20%"restocking fee" if I cancel. When it had not arrived by 6/3/21 I requested my deposit back and was told I would pay the fee if I cancel and need to come in person "to sign" and they need to see my credit card. Only when I stated I would be bringing someone in with me to help get my full deposit back did the co- owner back down and agree to my full refund. When we arrived, we were greeted by a barking dog and distasteful comments by the person completing the refund, stating the loss should be shared by the store and the customer because it wasn't their fault, there are delays, and blah, blah, blah. To add insult to injury, we never had to be present to sign or show the credit card. Bold-faced lies and terrible treatment on so many levels! read more

Everyone there is pleasant. The repairs are fine, especially considering that there aren't many options in the area. But they still have a lot to learn about customor service. We used them for years becuase of convenience but were always bothered by the hours. It's tough to get there for before 7 if you work full time and opening up at 11 on Sat and not at all on Sunday, has also impacted my weekend plans. The last time (and it will be my last time), I forgot my credit card and asked if I could go there, have my daughter give them the number over the phone and sign. I had spent thousands of dollars there over the years (on bikes, equipment, and repairs) and my husband would sometimes call in his number if it were a drop-off. The owner said it was against policy. When I went in, I went up to the owner and asked if he remembered my and my husband. He said he DID remember my husband, but he didn't recognize my name. He didn't apologize. He seems just not to care about customer loyalty. So we will no longer be loyal. read more

Owner, Chris, couldn't have been more helpful and fair in pricing. Just rode my new wheels today. Lovely! Searched at 5-6 other bike shops locally. All were great.
