Scheduled a "retro bike fit" in summer of '25 to see how close I was to being correct. Tomwasnt there so somebody else did the fit. Long story short.... $165 later I had a different stem and a seat that was raised. I asked about the bars being correct width for my shoulders and was told those size frames typically come with that width bar. That didnt sound like professional bike fit advice. First 20 mile ride I had knee pain and my speed and time was off. Some picture taking with tape on my hip, knee and ankle and angle measuring confirmed the saddle height was indeed too tall. Lowered it back to pre-fit height and all was good. Dec '25- In preparation for 4 months and hundreds of miles of Florida cycling, I took my bike in for Silver tuneup/service. In Fl. I was having intermittent issues with the rear derailer not downshifting all the time and then suddenly downshitting 2 gears. I spent 6 weeks adding and subtracting 1/8 turn on the barrel cable adjuster to no avail. Google search said possible cable hanging up in a bend so I unwrapped my bats and straightened out the rear shifter cable as much as possible. No change. Bought a chain gauge to check chain wear. No issues there. Out of frustration I took it to the lbs in Florida. Fifteen minutes later and $17 less in my wallet, its back to shifting perfectly again. The problem? The shifter cable wraps around something on the rear derailer. There is a groove for the cable to lay in where it wraps around and the cable was not in the groove. I spent $222 on that Silver service and I had to pay another mechanic to fix it. Not the experiences I had expected, for sure. read more

Decided to start riding my bike again for the first time in years. Tires were flat and since they're about 30 years old and cracking I decided to get new ones. Only knew of two bike stores in the area without googling. The first didn't have the size I needed in stock but mentioned Tom's. Stopped in and they had what I needed,just basic mountain bike tires. Attended a free workshop at Tom's, billed as how to fix a flat. Not only did we watch while he explained and fixed, anyone who wanted to could practice doing it! As we all know, wqtching someone do something is very different from doing it yourself. I feel confident now that I could change a flat, should the need arise. In addition, he answered numerous general questions about bike chains, maintenance, fit, etc. Very relaxed atmosphere (they even had food and drink for us!), made everyone feel comfortable, whether we were asking about an expensive bike or an ancient 5 speed. read more

I'm seriously out of shape; so when I decided it was time for a new bike, I was very intimidated by how fancy Tom's Pro Bike shop is and how athletic the other shoppers are. The employees there are more than accommodating. They were completely on point in picking out the right size and shape of bike for me. They also didn't try to push me into a more expensive bike. I gave them my budget and then they sold me a bike $300 less because it was the best fit for me. I was especially concerned about the bike fit on the stationery bike trainer thing. Bought a bike from a guy who had buyer's remorse. Receipt in hand, bike was less than a week old. Bike was supposed to come with a FREE first tune up! Except the "free first tune up" isn't transferable for some reason. I offered to bring the original receipt in but they didn't care. Tom's Pro Bike shop already had their money, what does it matter who brings that bike in for it's first tune up. The tech/sales person had no idea why I could have possibly been upset. I could have gone anyplace in town, but I brought this bike back to their shop for the "free" tune up. They tried to sell me a $100 tune up and offered to throw a 10% "good faith" discount in. That's not nearly good enough from a "pro bike" shop. If anyone is a regular bike person, look elsewhere for your bike needs, this shop isn't worth your aggravation. read more

CAVEAT EMPTOR On 4/07/2018, I took my Easy Racer GRR recumbent bike to Tom's Pro Shop for a biannual tune-up and to discuss the option of installing Tannus airless tires on my bike, in lieu of replacing the existing punctured rear tube. I agreed to have Tom's Pro Bike install their Tannus tires on my bike. On 4/13.2018, I picked up my bike and paid Tom's Pro Bike $420.86. This charge included $40.00 for the front tire installation and $60.00 for the rear tire installation. However, the rear tire did not fit the wheel and caused my bike to become unstable and very difficult to control. I made a video recording of the wobbling rear wheel with the bike mounted on my bike stand and sent the video to both Tannus and Tom's Bike Shop. I phoned Tom's Pro Bike and the bike mechanic agreed the tire did not fit the bike. I returned the bike to Tom's Pro Bike and was told, reluctantly after a short discussion, that a new Tannus tire would be installed without an installation charge. The tire was in stock. When I followed up via phone approximately one week later, I spoke to a very knowledgeable bike mechanic and was advised that a new Tannus tire was not an option, and the best option was to replace the rear tire with the same type of tire, tube and liner that I had on the bike before. However, Tom's Pro Bike would not refund the $60 rear tire installation charge. Tom said that he paid the mechanic and he had to make money to stay in business. Tom said that unless Tannus refunded him the cost of the tire - which Tom's Pro Bike destroyed - Tom's would not refund the installation charge. Tom's Pro Bike said Tannus would not return their calls - even though Tom's Pro Bike said they were the largest Tannus dealer. In my opinion, this issue is between Tom's Pro Bike and Tannus - the customer should not be held hostage. Bike shops also buy wholesale - not retail - and also make money on the net cost of repairs. On my third - and what will be my final - 2 hr. round-trip to Tom's Pro Bike, I was presented with a $100+ bill. I advised the clerk of my conversation with Tom, and she left and then returned with a $10 charge, which she said was for the new tire installation. I reluctantly paid the bill to get my bike back. On my first ride the following day, I had to stop because of the terrible grinding sounds emitting from the rear wheel of my bike. I went here because I was looking for a specific helmet made by Specialized, and this is the Specialized dealer for the Buffalo area (at least, that I could tell.) And, when you roll up into the parking lot, it is pretty obvious that it's a Specialized shop -- it's emblazoned across the windows at the front of the store. They also stock Cervélo, which is a pretty high-end bicycle brand. Overall, I would put this shop at the upper end of brands, so keep that in mind when you're shopping. I was able to catch the attention of a salesperson pretty quickly, and she was happy to help me pick out one of the helmets I was looking at, showing me how some of the features worked, and gave me some details about the shop, such as the clothing rack upstairs. They have a really great selection of cycling clothing, with Sugoi, Pearl Izumi and Castelli available. They have a lot of jerseys with their cycling team, as well as ones from GoBike Buffalo and some other local sponsors. Overall it was pretty friendly, although the one guy at the sales counter was a little cold. For some reason I often get that vibe from guys at cycling shops, I'm not entirely sure why. But no matter. It looks like they have a full featured repair and maintenance shop, as well as having an indoor cycling studio. One of my favorite little touches, which I didn't take a picture of (but someone else has) is they have a bicycle part vending machine outside. That is an awesome idea for if you need a tube and the shop is closed. I'd definitely go back here if I needed something specific, or to browse their clothing racks again. read more

Stopped to have my daughters bike tuned up and was met at the door by a gentleman that didn't want to listen to me but rather tell me how bad the bike was I wanted to get fixed and quote prices off the top of his head. He also continued to talk down to me. I somewhat think this was a way to discourage me from having them do the work. Honestly I love to support Lancaster businesses but if your price point is below as this gentleman stated " $1000 is our entry level ", don't bother. Clearly he doesn't need your business. This review pertains only to their bike packaging and shipping service. Don't trust them for this service. I received an S Works Shiv module that was stuffed into a box too tight, and there was resulting damage to the fork and the derailleur hanger. I will post pictures. They didn't even use a simple fork brace. One of the pictures shows the inside of the box where there are marks that indicate the bike was shoved in without any regard when it was clearly too tight. The worst business to deal with that I have ever encountered! The people "in charge" seem to have no clue how there computer works. Numerous calls to pick up a bike with no success. I've been given many different excuses. Mostly it boils down to they "can't find me" in their system. If you can't walk out the door with your merchandise you have a near zero chance of actually getting it. It's my fault I continue to try to buy from them. No more! I finally gave up and on two separate occasions I ended up canceling the sale. And as you can imagine getting a credit from them was no easy task. Partly because they still "can't find me". Ben, Bobbi, and Ian were wonderful taking time to ask me questions about my fitness routines, goals, desires in a bike, etc. They then made suggestions of bikes keeping in mind all those factors including price. They were patient and very knowledgeable. Then the day I purchased my bike, the guys in the shop were fantastic to get it put together right away so I didn't have to make another trip back. Tom's individualized fitting was amazing. He adjusted parts of the bike set up that I didn't even know were a factor. He was diligent and had great attention to detail. I've purchased several bikes previous to this but never had a shop that bothered to properly fit me for my bike, setting seat and handlebars, and making sure the angles were optimal. Tom made sure that my bike was properly fitted for a comfortable ride and that I'd get the most out of it. They have a wide selection of bikes and accessories, and a knowledgeable and friendly team. I drove from Cleveland because it was hard to find what I was looking for and they actually had it. This is my goto bike shop. In a shop that has bicycles as pricey as $15,000 they are super great to work with with not a hint of elitist attitude some shops have. Service and fittings are excellent and they are focused on 2 things...getting you back on the road ....and incredible customer service. The new store is pretty great with quite an impressive inventory include road, tri, cross and mountain bikes. If it has 2 wheels and needs service, bring it to Tom's. They don't care where it came from or what level of disrepair its in, they'll fix it or build it. Tom is also a generous supporter of the sport locally and a big thanks goes out to him for that!!! I hadn't ridden a bike in decades. At 6'6 I often had knee pain after riding and never felt quite comfortable on a bike. After my wife's urging I bought a bike recently to get back in "shape". I was impressed to say the least how friendly and knowledgeable Tom's staff was. I purchased a bike at the new Orchard Park road location. Every aspect of the experience was stress free. After an initial bike fitting with Tom himself, I haven't had any knee problems at all. It turns out that for years I was putting undue pressure on my knees and shoulders because of an ill fitting bike set up. I am actually having fun riding a bike..at 50! My bike needed new tires so I decided to shop local. I went to Tom's pro bike. All good with initial visit and the bike was done a couple days ahead of promised date. 2 days later I was topping my front tire off and the sidewalk blew out. Still 30 lbs below max recommended psi. I took it back to Tom's and they took care of everything free of charge. 3 days later rear tire blew out riding on smooth paved path. (Of course 5 miles from my car. ) Brought it back to Tom's . I overheard the tech telling the lady helping me, that the tube they installed just over a week ago, was improperly installed. My expectation at that point was that they would correct their mistake and I'd be on my way. Nope, they charged me for both the tube they incorrectly installed AND labor. I brought my bike in for service. I just needed a new cable for my shifter and they suggested a new chain, which I agreed. They told me they were backed up due to the COVID shut down, maybe 3-4 weeks. I accepted that. About 3-4 weeks they texted to say bike was done. I picked up my bike next day. I didn't get to ride it until a day after that. As soon as I got on I knew something was wrong. The back tire was wobbly and seemed to be bent. I brought it back to Tom's and the guy says "we didn't do that!" The wheel was bent and a spoke had broke. I said "how did I break my own bike in the 10 seconds I rode it until I quickly realized it was damaged?" He said "not my problem." I reminded him that they had my bike for almost a month. When I brought it in it ran fine just needed a cable, now it is totally messed up and they are refusing to fix. I have gone to them before with no problems and the store is very nice, but I don't recommend service and I will not shop there anymore. Jim M. read more

I stopped at the new location in E Amherst, can't find it on Yelp. My wife and I rode up on our bikes (we ride daily). I looked around for 10 minutes without even a hello from anyone. I was so excited to have a specialty bike shop so close, but was quickly disappointed. Person at the counter was talking to another employee about nonsense. I felt invisible. I've read the reviews on the Lancaster store and if accurate suggest Tom spend some time here. This shop will fail. Zero customer service and with the very limited selection no reason to go. I'll take my Specialized Roubaix S-Works to someone that will at least acknowledge me. Very disappointing. read more

Trying to be objective and came up with 2 stars. The pros: the retail store itself, while pricier than what you will find online, is well stocked and the sales staff is friendly and knowledgable. If you're shopping for apparel, shoes, accessories, etc., I can recommend stopping in at Tom's. The negatives: I am absolutely furious after picking up my bicycle from a "pro" tune up. Do NOT bring your bike here for service - you will be nickel and dimed, and not delivered what you were promised. In my case, the "pro" tune was supposed to include (at a price of $150), among other things, a complete wash and polish of the frame and truing the wheels. Now, given that many deep-profile wheels on racing bikes do not have external spoke nuts, you would expect that the price of the pro tune included removing the tires to true the wheels. Nope - Tom's charged me an additional $10 labor to remove the tires - something that should take them all of 30 seconds and is assumed as part of the promised wheel truing. Tom's also replaced my chain which was approaching the point of needing replacement, but charged me double what the chain retails for at other outlets. But whatever. I got overcharged and learned my lesson. What totally set me off is the fact that despite paying well over $200 in parts and labor for their "pro" tune, which was stated to include a full wash and polish, when I got my bike home and actually inspected it (1) the frame still has mud and grime caked on it in multiple places and (2) it doesn't shift worth a damn. The rear derailleur was not properly adjusted and hangs up in between gears. It honestly was shifting better before I brought it in for the tune up. So: what the hell did a pay for? I could have adjusted the derailleur that poorly all by myself. Bottom line: Don't bring your bicycle to Tom for service. Their service department is a rip off. In the past, I had been mildly let down by the shop work Campus Wheelworks in the city, so I gave Tom's a shot. Never again. read more

We had been visiting Tom's Bike shop for over a year deciding on a bike for our 14/15 year old son. We were concerned that he would have a growth spurt and outgrow any new bike we purchased. All the employees we dealt with were very helpful, patient and answered our questions. Today, we purchased the bike. Our son loves it! It fits him perfectly. Tom, the owner, fit him and he was very exact and knowledgeable. He gave our son some tips for gear shifting and the way his arms should bend toward the handlebar. For the past year our son would stop into one of their branch stores to update his 40+yr Peugeot. Again, nobody pressured him and they all treated him as an adult and knowledgeable about his bike. We were very happy with all our experiences with Tom's Bikes and wouldn't hesitate recommending them to others. read more

I have known Tom Lonzi, and been a customer, for going on 30 years. I have always found him to be both passionate about the sport, and realistic about the appropriate equipment for a given rider. Tom will not try and upsell you into more bike than you need, and his honest appraisal of new gear when considering when/whether to upgrade to a new model is genuinely refreshing. I have also found Tom to be a premier bike fitter, a service that many shops offer, but that few do with any true competence. Although small parts and commodities like tubes and tires can be had cheaper online, I willingly pay a little more to buy them from Tom because I want to support the service they provide when I need real help. First, let me start by saying I have not been on a bike for 5 years and I am not an athletic person. I recently moved to grand island though, and I really wanted to get a bike to ride around the island. I also wanted to get a bike quick so I could do some ridding before winter. I thought I would just try and find something used on my own (since I have not been on a bike in so long) but I realized, to get a used bike, and then have it serviced, I would still be spending a lot of money. Plus at this time of year, there are not a lot of used options. Hours before I went to Tom's, I was in Rochester, and I happened to be near the Park Ave Bike shop so I made my first bike shopping stop there. I walked in an there were two customers dressed in full spandex biking gear, and I felt out of place from the start. This is not a review for Park Ave, but I just want to say I felt very unwelcomed. My visit to Tom's was the complete opposite and the sales person made me feel very comfortable from the start. I am sure it was clear that I was not getting at $1,200 bike, but I still feel like I received great service. Plus, not being a bike guy, it was great to have a professional and customer oriented sales person walk me through my options. Even better, when I was a little hesitant, there was no pressure to get a bike right then and there. They suggested I comeback another time to give it a test ride when it was not raining. I walked out with a bike that day because, to me, the service was more important then the bike and I just feel like I can trust the professionals at Tom's Pro Bike. I will never go to Tom's Pro Bike again. My father dropped off his, my mother's and my bike to get estimates for any repairs. The day the estimates were completed, their were not one, not two, but three voice mails saying to pick up our bikes because they didn't want them in the shop. We didn't get home to answer the voice mails because each of us work during the day. The following day we received another voice mail and when my dad got home he quickly called the shop. My dad said that we were leaving the house right that minute to pick up the bikes and the person on the phone kept saying, "we close at 6 I don't think you'll make it" and "we close at 6 so you better hurry up" We left the house at 5:30 getting to the shop at 5:40.We proceeded to get my bike repaired and decided that the other two bikes were not in any shape to be repaired and we would be better off purchasing new ones. My father put a down payment on the work for my bike so they can go ahead and start the repairs. A week later we got another voicemail saying to pick up my bike. My dad left the house right away to pick up the bikes as soon as he got home so we wouldn't get anymore harassing voicemails. Well the person who cashed him out must have been in a big hurry to leave because he overcharged my father and didn't even take into account the down payment. Then the following day he picked it up I decided I wanted to go for a bike ride. I get the bike out of the garage, and start to go down the driveway when I noticed it was really hard to steer. I looked at the headset of the bike and when my bike was straight the headset was curved at a 45 degree angle. I proceeded to look at the receipt and he charged my father for the adjustment of it, but apparently the staff never actually fixed it. When I proceeded to call the shop the person their said that they needed to speak to my father about it because the work done was in my father's name. VERY DISAPPOINTED with the HARASSMENT and service work that I will forever reflect it if someone asks me about this place. read more

I took my bike in for a simple tube repair. 1st they overcharged me vs what they quoted me twice. They said they normally deal with road bikes (not something like my beach cruiser). Secondly, they neglected to give me the valve stem cap. Thirdly, I went to take it out for a ride and the same tube that was just replaced two days prior was completely flat. They told me it was due to a wire sticking out from the tire and that me I'd have to purchase another tube. I asked why that wasn't looked for prior to replacing the tube...he said it "probably was" and that I did it in the 2 days since I had it repaired. They refused to cover the cost of another tube and a simple repair ended up costing me $33! I would not recommend going to Tom's. read more

10 stars on a 5-star scale!! 6 hours into a 1K mile roadtrip, our new Yakima (boo, hiss) bike hitch failed, severely damaging the bikes. Not only was Tom answering his phone well before opening, but he insisted on coming in (convienently just off I-90) prior to business hours and located the necessary parts from his expansive inventory, Tom, Mike and Mechanic Mike were all genuinely helpful, honest & extremely efficient.
