Ten, ten, ten across the board!!!!!!!…read more So I was passing through Slidell and asked a friend if he knew a good coffee spot that wasn't [insert coffee shop, you know the one]. And in that moment I was reminded why I rarely ask for recommendations because my taste runs a little too refined for most. Nevertheless I turned to Maps and typed in "coffee," and the first option was an immediate no. But the second one, the name alone, told me everything I needed to know. The only problem, it was the opposite direction I was headed and I was already running late. But I couldn't ignore that instinct. I had to see for myself. "Sorry boss, can't come in today. I was on my way to work and then a gentle fall breeze blew me in the direction of my destiny and reminded me it is a serious thing just to be alive on this fresh morning in this broken world!" Anywho, I'm so happy I stopped. The moment I walked in it felt like home, not in the corny sitcom way, but in that deeper unexpected kind of way. Like walking into a crowded room full of strangers and then seeing your homegirl that instantly makes you feel like yourself again and suddenly the day is yours. Mind you I hadn't even ordered at this point, but that's how good just walking inside made me feel. i felt like a mom that has been saying "you not getting that" all year then christmas day be grinning when baby open that present they been wanting!! Then there's the coffee, I'm still sipping my Beehive Latte now and it's fabulous. And I don't say fabulous often. I was going to go with a vanilla latte but since I sort of felt like I was in Adam and Eve's garden I wanted to try something new. The owner recommended the Crème Brûlée Latte but his wife overheard me going back and forth in my head (out loud) and suggested the Beehive since I like my coffee sweet but not overwhelming. This latte is perfect, pure perfection. I grabbed a chocolate croissant too because they looked delicious and they absolutely delivered. Flaky, golden and brown and no I'm not describing myself. The pastries all looked heavenly. Everything was perfect. Sure, I'm having an exceptionally good day already, maybe because of the weather, maybe because it's Friday, or maybe because I'm an attractive single 6'3 male and ready for eligible suitors. Either way, the service, their smiles, the coffee, the plants, everything was otherworldly. I'd go out of my way to come back. Wanna come with?

I have been to Roots Plants Coffee twice since moving to Slidell area. It's not an understatement…read morewhen I say this is literally the best coffee ever. The lattes are on point. So yummy and so sweet. The environment is cozy. Plants everywhere. Nature makes a space a positive element. I go here to relax when I need a pick me up or simply am craving a sweet caffeinated beverage. My only thing is the prices. They are a bit high, which is why I'm rating 4 stars, BUT totally worth the price for the amount of options you get to choose from and the quality of the coffee. :)

To me, this is the BEST nursery in Slidell hands down, and I'll tell you why…read more It's not because they have the biggest and most diverse selection of plants. They often don't, really. But that's because their space is limited, I think. They do often have a very good selection of different species, though, that's for sure. The reason they're the best is because of the amount of care and attention they put into those plants. The reason they're the best is because the lady and her daughter that work there will go out of their way to answer any question you might have about anything they sell and they are very well educated on the plants they sell. In fact, they won't just answer your questions, they'll educate you on those plants as well. And they'll do it very nicely and you will feel as though actually learned something while you were there. They LOVE gardening and caring for plants and it shows. The nursery is located on a residential lot and the whole place just seems like a homeowner's dream garden. I imagine that's exactly what they were aiming for. ;) There is a mighty oak at the entrance and I really wish they sold the kind of tree people faces that she has on it, but she told me it was quite old and can't get them anymore. I haven't needed anything for my garden in a couple years because many of my plants just keep coming back, but when I do require something I will always stop here FIRST. If they don't have it, they will tell you when/if they expect to get what you need and you can come back and be assured that you will be getting the best specimens and that they were handled with care before you bought them. When you walk in, you'll find one of these nice ladies either working with a customer or caring for the plants. Never just sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Always helping out or doing something around the nursery. They will help you with whatever you need. Specific questions, general care of any plant, even if they don't sell it, and they're even nice enough to give advice to you on gardening care at home or about trees or plants that you already have. What I'm trying to say here is, their customer service is top notch and goes above and beyond what you'd expect from a business because caring for plants isn't just their business, it's obviously a hobby and a labor of love for them and that is why you need to start HERE when you need something for your garden.

This review applies to a gentlemen/owner at Banting's. Nowadays it is a rare occurrence (especially…read morehere), I broke down in front of a LaCombe car repair shop that I've been using for 25 years. I was literally stuck there with no way to get home. This repair shop has serviced many of my vehicles over the years and all he could offer me was for me was for me to call a taxi. His mechanic suggested was for me to call Uber. I've never used Uber and in my 40 years of living here never needed to use a taxi. They obviously could care less about me, an old reliable customer who's probably had more then 20 grand work there over the years, plus my new breakdown fix another $1,000+ added to my list of dozens of service needs there over the years. It also happened to be the beginning of Veteran's Day weekend. Which is a somber time and depressing time when I remember my lost buddies in almost 50 years and while serving in country. Now about the rare gentlemen from Banting's Nursery, and his nice big Ford truck with newly mounted new skins. He happened to be sitting there waiting for service and watching me being ignored stuck at the counter for long awhile and desperate for help. Up pop's my knight in shining armor, who offered to take me home. I'm a Viet Vet in declining health and this Godsend did the right thing and offered to take me home. I've been in and out of the VA and 2 St Tammany hospitals 5 times this year (2017). I've helped people in need my whole life, much more then giving one a lift. So, I was deeply hurt but i remembered where live and the selfishness I saw from many people in the aftermath of Katrina and many times over the years. After Katrina most local contractors who do home repairs, such as, well service, masonry work, etc, jacked-up their prices because people were desperate for repairs. After Katrina, when I was in better health, I made 2 trips to Iowa pulling my trailer and Bobcat with my F-350 to help anyone there needing clean-up after their terrible floods that destroyed thousands of homes. The folks there are totally different then here, they actually care about each other and would gladly give a stranger the shirt off their back. I'm not a Saint but I truly believe that I'm my 'brother's keeper' and to 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you', and in that spirit a small but meaningful gesture of kindness from a stranger fulfilled both of those cornerstones of humanity. So on one hand the people that has made plenty of money off me over the years could care less that I was stuck at their shop at the end of their work day and my wife across the lake! The gentlemen from Banting's Nursery who saw my angst, sprang into action and took me home! Kudos! Sorry, this post is way too wordy and probably off-topic for a Yelp post! Regardless, thank-you dearly for caring about a perfect stranger, it meant a lot to me that you cared!

Wonderful selection of plants. I appreciate the large selection of plants and easy check-out. Monrovia could visit this nursery on a Saturday in April for a lovely Louisiana spring day.
