Nowadays it is a rare occurrence (especially…read morehere), I broke down in front of a LaCombe car repair shop that I've been using for 25 years. I was literally stuck there with no way to get home. This repair shop has serviced many of my vehicles over the years and all he could offer me was for me was for me to call a taxi. His mechanic suggested was for me to call Uber. I've never used Uber and in my 40 years of living here never needed to use a taxi. They obviously could care less about me, an old reliable customer who's probably had more then 20 grand work there over the years, plus my new breakdown fix another $1,000+ added to my list of dozens of service needs there over the years. It also happened to be the beginning of Veteran's Day weekend. Which is a somber time and depressing time when I remember my lost buddies in almost 50 years and while serving in country. Now about the rare gentlemen from Banting's Nursery, and his nice big Ford truck with newly mounted new skins. He happened to be sitting there waiting for service and watching me being ignored stuck at the counter for long awhile and desperate for help. Up pop's my knight in shining armor, who offered to take me home. I'm a Viet Vet in declining health and this Godsend did the right thing and offered to take me home. I've been in and out of the VA and 2 St Tammany hospitals 5 times this year (2017). I've helped people in need my whole life, much more then giving one a lift. So, I was deeply hurt but i remembered where live and the selfishness I saw from many people in the aftermath of Katrina and many times over the years. After Katrina most local contractors who do home repairs, such as, well service, masonry work, etc, jacked-up their prices because people were desperate for repairs. After Katrina, when I was in better health, I made 2 trips to Iowa pulling my trailer and Bobcat with my F-350 to help anyone there needing clean-up after their terrible floods that destroyed thousands of homes. The folks there are totally different then here, they actually care about each other and would gladly give a stranger the shirt off their back. I'm not a Saint but I truly believe that I'm my 'brother's keeper' and to 'do unto others as you would have them do unto you', and in that spirit a small but meaningful gesture of kindness from a stranger fulfilled both of those cornerstones of humanity. So on one hand the people that has made plenty of money off me over the years could care less that I was stuck at their shop at the end of their work day and my wife across the lake! The gentlemen from Banting's Nursery who saw my angst, sprang into action and took me home! Kudos! Sorry, this post is way too wordy and probably off-topic for a Yelp post! Regardless, thank-you dearly for caring about a perfect stranger, it meant a lot to me that you cared!

I called & facebook messaged every nursery in town and up to an hour and a half away to try and find these special plants! The only nursery that replied back with a "We do have a hindu rope plant" was Wild Thymes! And to my surprise they were a mere 30 minutes from my house! I'd heard of Wild Thymes before, at a Covington Farmer's Market years ago my best friend and I had purchased air plants from them. Boy am I lucky that they invited me onto their property to buy some BEAUTIFUL and RARE plants! Not only is the property & greenhouse LUSH and WONDERFULLY GREEN, the owners are incredible and were SO MUCH FUN to talk with! I enjoyed every second of my time in their secret garden! They have an enormous collection of cactus, sanseveria, and quite a few begonias. There are plenty of different sizes to choose from, and they're all special plants, taken care of by people who truly love them. I'm actually sentimental about this place and I plan to go back a bunch!

Delivery available for reasonable charge. Larger round bales available also. They advertise as Louisiana's Largest Pine Straw Producer. These folks have pine straw when no one else does. I have only used this company once so far. This company was recommended by one of my neighbors…read moreafter I found a bunch of debris to include thorns and pieces of bushes in the pine straw, we purchased from Garden Spot in Mandeville. The pine straw that was delivered by Gomez was free of debris, but it was dyed red and got bright red dust all over my freshly painted white brick, all over my driveway, and the red dye/powder was so bad that we had to throw away my shoes and clothes after putting it down because it wouldn't wash out. It should be noted I ordered regular undyed pine straw and even used multiple neighbors addresses as examples to describe exactly what I wanted. I contacted the company after the order issue and within a few days George called me back. He explained that someone in the office made an error and sent me the red pine straw that none of my neighbors use but that my HOA uses for the main areas. He sent one of the workers out to pick up the remaining roll I had and to refund the 1 roll that they picked up. He further advised that the red dye would not harm all our freshly done landscaping and sprinkler system. I have mixed feelings about this company. I am disappointed that they made the mistake in the first place and of course charged me for and gave me the more expensive pine straw that I didn't want. But I do give them credit for taking accountability and not making excuses. I plan to give them one more try when it's time to freshen up our pine straw and allow them the chance to get a 4 or 5 star and keep our business.

I knew she was slowly transitioning out of Etsy and into her own marketplace, and more local places like this, so when I came into town I thought I'd stop here and see all of the hullabaloo. Okay, maybe saying hullabaloo makes it sound like more than it actually was, but I was quite excited to stop here and pick up some new jewelry. As I walked in, it was reminiscent of many artists markets. Little stall-like features from different service providers with so many cute and artistic items that you could quickly see your next three paychecks being spent before you walked back out the door. I did find the artist I was looking for, and I was able to get a new pair of earrings, as I had hoped. I also found some amazingly cute little dishtowels to celebrate the carnival season, and some clearance holiday ornaments left over from the season before. This place has such an eclectic mix of artists and artistry that I'm not sure I could really pinpoint why you should stop here. However, you should, and I'm sure that whatever home décor- personal accessory - tchotchke - child's play thing that you are looking for will be there, and that you or your recipient will be happy to take it home!
