I think I offended the hostess and waitress after having trouble with their "ring bell for service" bell. We waited a short time in the small entrance and noticed the bell.... Several light taps produced no sound and a more unreserved tap sounded like a fire alarm. The hostess and waitress arrived wide-eyed and I apologized and tried to make light of the awkward meeting... they weren't having it. We were there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. We stated that in our reservation and were given a half hearted "happy anniversary" after being seated in the middle of the dining room, without any view. Several couples after us were seated with views to the water. It was our first time there and we didn't know to ask... In any case, we loved the food when we finally got it - but it took over an hour and a half after ordering to receive our meal. The waitress, Countnee (name on receipt), couldn't have been less interested in serving us. I guess she never got over the bell incident??? She seemed overly nice to others... even comping a bottle of wine for the couple next to us. We didn't even get the short spiel about how the strawberries in the sorbet were grown in their garden.... she told other people, we heard her- but she couldn't be bothered to take the time with us. We spent a lot of money on what could have been an amazing celebratory dinner for our anniversary had the service been even a little better. Get over yourself and have a little fun. The hostess was wearing jeans, this shouldn't have had such a pretentious, snooty vibe. We had friends recommend dinner here and we were disappointed, will never be back. It's the next morning and I'm still wishing we had gone somewhere else. It was our 20th anniversary after all!!!

The soaking tub was amazing! I made a point to take a soak before we left as the tub was much larger than the one we have at home, it's extra wide which is great for two people showering at the same time. The location to town can't be beat! We loved being able to walk outside and we were right on the beach, and there were coffee shops and even a grocery store within walking distance. We had a slight snafu when checking in, the keys weren't in the Dropbox and we weren't able to get ahold of the owner right away. A shop owner next store let us in as she knew the code to the building. Small town, it happens. Honestly, we were relieved that someone was there to let is in! We noticed an ant problem while we were there, and this was late March, a bit early for ants. We didn't leave any food out, and we couldn't find a trail where they were coming in from. They seemed to hang out at the dining table, but nowhere else. We think the restaurant next door may have been the reason for the ants. The bed wasn't very comfortable, it felt like sleeping on a futon but it was a Queen sized bed. The kitchen was functional but very small. We found it more than adequate for a one or two night stay if making food at home. Any longer, you may need more space. Overall, we would recommend it for a weekend stay for a couple. This will be my go to place on Orcas from now on. I really enjoyed my stay.

We have stayed here a handful of times over the past 10 years and enjoyed the experience. This last visit was incredibly sub par. The room with water view, top floor unit we requested was not available as the owner decided to use it at the last minute. We were switched to a different unit that had multiple problems. There was black mold in the shower, swarms of ants in the bathroom, blood stains on the sheets, cracked areas on the microwave, stains on the carpet, a dishwasher that came out from under the counter when opening the door, bathroom fan that sounds like a jet engine, and a fire alarm that shrieks if you forget to close the bedroom door when taking a shower. The innkeepers (hotel staff) led us to believe that the owners of this suite number 203 were aware of the problems but hadn't gotten around to fixing anything and hopefully they'd take care of things during the off season. The staff said the rooms are serviced after 4 nights (we were there for 5 nights). We did request fresh towels for each day and were assured that would not be a problem, however it didn't happen. On the 4th day when I took a shower, there was no hot water. The black mold in the shower was grossing me out. Then I tried drying off with a damp towel (even though we hung them up the damp weather did not allow towels to dry from one day to the next) and I had ants all over my feet from the dead and live ones on the floor. Becky the housekeeping manager was very helpful and inspected the ant infested area (even after using traps they'd given us) and discovered holes between the baseboard and floor that she caulked and fixed the problem. Becky wanted to resolve our problems and did what she could to help. She was the one person that actively helped the situation and conveyed her concern for the issues. We felt the innkeepers were already aware of the issues but did not feel like they could remedy them, never came to the room to check on anything, and indicated we should accept the room as is. And although they did offer to let us out of our commitment for 5 nights, we could not find other accommodations in Eastsound and did not want to cancel our entire vacation. We are very sad that this property that once made us so happy has fallen so far. We will not stay there again as it seems that the management cannot require owners to properly maintain their units and we'd have no idea if the unit we'd be getting would be in good shape.

Beautiful view of the bay and a nice balcony to sit on for morning coffee and evening wine. The bed was SO comfortable and the sheets and blanket soft. Normally when we rent a BnB it has basic spices, foil and plastic wrap are usually available. There was nothing to wrap Leftovers in. I know it's a small thing but a few extras like that would be nice in the kitchen. All in all it was a nice place to stay and everything was within walking distance, we would stay here again

There are shops, restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and more within walking distance. The location can't be beat. Not only is it close to everything, but you can see the water from the windows as you're just across the street from it. And that's just where it begins. They have free, easy, onsite parking in the garage under the building. There are stairs if you want to get your steps in but also an elevator that accesses all floors. The building also houses a realty company which is really the most visible signage on the space. But just know you're in the right place. The room we stayed in was perfect (Johns Island - all rooms named after the nearby islands). It was closest to the water. But the way the building is setup, it's angled so every room has a window towards the water. The rooms themselves are fantastic. Really clean and well appointed. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was big and had plenty of counter space. The tiles were also heated! They had plenty of space to hold bags and clothing with hanging space and drawers. There was a fireplace which was perfectly cozy when it got chilly at night. There is a couch (which pulls out if you need it), desk, and a window seat to look at that water! In the room, there is a small fridge and a Nespresso machine with pods. They also had tea, creamer, and sweetener in the room. As if that's not enough, there is also a shared space that has a full size fridge/freezer, microwave, another Nespresso machine, table/chairs and more window seating. It's all stocked with snacks! They had chips, popcorn, teas/coffees, granola, oats, yogurt, milk, juices, and personal sized icecream. I can't say enough great things about my experience. I hope to come back soon.

Another bonus of staying here was the breakfasts. The food is delicious and unexpected. I did not anticipate seared sushi grade tuna or oat pancakes that rival the best buttermilk pancakes. And the beauty of breakfast times is sitting with other guests along with Jill and Charles discussing everything from how it all began at the Kangaroo B&B to activities to do on the island. I have to say, with the exception of the amazing views from Mount Constitution, the water views from almost everywhere on the island and celebrating my wife, this B&B was a highlight of my trip.

You can tell someone put care into creating a space that feels relaxed and enjoyable. Unfortunately, that's where the good news ends. Disappointing - I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was too frustrating to stay silent. I ordered a Chardonnay and was shocked to see the pour -- a measly 4 oz for $7.99. That's barely more than a tasting sample, and certainly not what you'd expect for the price. To make matters worse, they informed me there was a two-drink limit per hour when I asked for another glass 1hr 45 min later at the outside table with my family. I politely asked for another glass and was refused, despite being completely sober, weighing over 190 lbs, and standing 6 feet tall. There was no reasoning, no discussion -- just a flat-out refusal I can't serve you ar this time. The staff's tone? Cold at best, condescending at worst. If you value fair service, reasonable pours, and basic respect, I'd suggest you take your business elsewhere. Friendly staff? Not quite. Overpriced micro-pours and arbitrary limits discriminating absolutely. Cabins are cute but then that's the only little bar/ convenience store on the property so it really ruined the flavor of this cute place. You've been warned.

Some of the best seaside views or sunset on the island are from the beach nearby. However, the cottages are older and you have to put up with some minor issues here and there. That's understandable really but the service can be a bit variable. Their front desk is not always staffed so there is a number to call. And depending on who it is the service can be friendly or gruff. So service gets 3. We have stayed here in different cottages but Screech Owl is my favorite though it's the one that's not on the beachside. I just love the owl decor and the grand spaciousness of the cottage. The hot tub is the best in the Heron cottage as its in a secluded alcove and the sauna is nearby. Eagles Nest is a lovers den as it has one of the best ocean views and is a studio style with hot tub overlooking the ocean - very secluded and perfect for a honeymoon getaway. But for a family outing the Screech Owl has the biggest deck for entertaining and a very spacious - 'oh! I want to bake up a storm' kitchen. The caretakers are now living below it so some may not prefer it but I still like it. The pets are free here and no deposit/housekeeping is charged but they ask you leave it clean.
