Located inside Palms Book State Park, this natural spring was one of the most unique and beautiful places we visited. The water is crystal clear all the way to the bottom, and you can easily see fish swimming below. You hop onto a self-operated raft that you pull across the water to the middle of the spring, where there's an opening in the center to look straight down. It gives you a perfect view of the vibrant underwater world -- it's honestly mesmerizing. It's a quick stop, but totally worth it. And the best part? It's dog-friendly! Definitely add this to your list if you're exploring the Upper Peninsula.

I mean...I didn't mind the fee. I'm a huge waterfalls enthusiast. Anytime there's an opportunity to take a few photographs of scenic falls, I'll always be excited. So no worries, I was more than okay with paying $10. But...my real big issue was Horseshoe Falls barely having any forcible/gushing/free flowing water left in its pathway when falling down the creek side. It appeared like it had been suffering through a long dry spell/drought. So when I came upon the falls, they seemed like a tiny trickle. I could only think that a few years from now this Horseshoe Falls would be completely void of any water whatsoever. Ya know...I looked back at photos online and saw such great images of what these falls used to look like. Now for when I visited this past summer of 2021, Horseshoe Falls was a shell of its former self. Regardless, I was still more than happy to grab a picture or two of Horseshoe Falls. The setting, overall, was pleasant for late June. It wasn't too crowded and I had a few good chances to take my pics without being disturbed by other strangers. I came here in the afternoon time and the sun was situated at my back facing the falls which allowed for clear shots of the photogenic backdrop. Some extra info... They have a pond for which you can pay .25 cents into a vending machine to buy pellets to feed the fish. I enjoy these types of activities, simple moments, hanging out and throwing food into the water. Unfortunately, when I tossed the fish pellets into the pond...the fish seemed disinterested in coming to the surface to take the bait. Maybe they had been fed earlier in the day by other tourists, but basically the food just sat there floating. I guess this was a disappointment. When buying my ticket inside the Visitor/Gift Store, I never discovered anything cool to purchase. For me being the usual sucker for buying trinkets and chachkies, I'm always on the lookout for junk stuff yet here I couldn't connect with anything inside their gift shop. Actually, let me backtrack that...I bought a bag of fresh popped popcorn for I believe less than $1. Woohoo. That popcorn was actually delicious, lol. Bathrooms were located at the front entrance to the store, but you have to ask staff inside for a key to use them. I guess they want to make sure you're a paying customer first. Btw, Horseshoe Falls is located in a small neighborhood right outside the town of Munising, Michigan. To find it just plug "Horseshoe Falls" into Google Maps. Getting to Horseshoe Falls was a simple walk on a path for 1/4 - 1/3 of a mile. Besides the small pond to feed the fish, they do have a quirky sundial that actually tells the time during the day by looking up at the sky. I was pleasantly interested in this sundial. Also, there was plenty of grass and a few tables good for picnics and just sitting down breathing in the fresh air before walking up to arrive at Horseshoe Falls. I spent roughly 1 hour here and overall used 2 full days in total admiring all the waterfalls among the UP of Michigan. Ya know...so many people will complain about the $10 fee and there not being much offered here at Horseshoe Falls, but anytime I can get up close with a waterfall, I find it a worthwhile experience...regardless of the weak water pressure that Horseshoe Falls exhibited going down the side of the rocks. So...if you're in the moment and enjoying all the many great waterfalls offered along Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, then might as well make the quick stop here and check Horseshoe Falls off your waterfall To-Do List.

We had a great stay in the Turtle River Cabin at Big Cedar! We loved having a little porch to sit…read moreon overlooking the river and had a nice relaxing evening by the fire. The cabin was cozy inside and the bathrooms were very clean. Melissa and John were incredibly responsive to messages with questions I had about arriving after office hours. I forgot my favorite throw blanket and Melissa tried to call me to flag me down but my cell service was about what you'd expect for such a beautiful wilderness so I missed it. We worked it out where I offered to pay her the shipping if she could mail it back to me and she was very happy to do so. It's nice to meet such kind people in different corners of the world. Even nicer that they provide a fantastic place to rest and relax. We will definitely be back!

The bathroom and shower area was well maintained and it was nice and quiet for bedtime. We will definitely come back!
