We reserved a canoe for the 4 hour trip through the Seney NWR. Northland Outfitters had our canoe set up and ready to launch on schedule. Before we left, the person at the counter told us about a few particular hazards to watch for and how to get around them. They float that stretch occasionally themselves and cut openings around log jams when needed. And there were plenty of logs and rocks to navigate around on that trip, but nothing that our modest paddling skills couldn't handle. It was a beautiful, quiet afternoon float--quite a contrast from some crowded rivers downstate. We finished the trip a little early, but our shuttle driver was at the take-out waiting for us. NO has a nice gift shop, and we got a couple of t-shirts with some cool logos. We took a walk around the grounds too and it looked like a promising place to camp next time we're around these parts. Of course, we had to check out the troll sculpture (see photos), as you must if you come here for a paddle.

We loved our campsite overlooking the river. The campground is very pretty with trees and a central pond with fountains. There's a fairly new bath house with showers that's kept clean daily. We took one of the boat trips 2 1/2 hours and our guy dropped us off upriver right on time. We were given a good explanation of the hazards along the route and we ended at the outfitters property right at the estimated time also. The owners are very friendly and helpful. All of the staff was extremely friendly and they have the place looking. They have made improvements lately. If you're looking for a place to spend a week or day, I wouldn't miss it.

This place is beautiful. The owners are super nice and very helpful! The deluxe cabin was perfect for my husband and I, celebrating our anniversary. Kayaking was awesome, did the 4 hour trip, well worth it. Would definitely come back again!

    We had a great time!

Located inside Palms Book State Park, this natural spring was one of the most unique and beautiful places we visited. The water is crystal clear all the way to the bottom, and you can easily see fish swimming below. You hop onto a self-operated raft that you pull across the water to the middle of the spring, where there's an opening in the center to look straight down. It gives you a perfect view of the vibrant underwater world -- it's honestly mesmerizing. It's a quick stop, but totally worth it. And the best part? It's dog-friendly! Definitely add this to your list if you're exploring the Upper Peninsula.

Clear blue water, bubbling sand, never ending springs, a tow boat, and lots of trout are the wonders to see. Everyone gets on the boat and someone (well a few people over the course of the trip) step up to the wheel to tow the boat across the water. The water is mesmerizing. I couldn't take my eyes off the water. Many people can fit on the boat so the wait is not too long. A day pass is $11. Definitely make this stop if you are in the area.

Even though it's located on the river, the view is very limited. We did end up taking a canoe trip down the river. The owner informed us that we would need to portage a short distance down the river but that it was an easy task. It turned out that it was very difficult for us, as well as others ahead and behind us. It is a very steep hill to climb up, without steps, rocks or otherwise to climb up, making it very slick. Re-entry to the river was also difficult. Exiting the river at the campground was just as taxing. Cell service was also an issue for us, as I had to cross the street to get a signal to call out.

I would love to know what was rude. I told you the site I was on had no grass and that your kayak exit was unsafe and I fell and maybe it should be improved for future guests. Maybe you're exaggerating on here so people think you had a reason for your attitude??? UPDATE: And now they're name calling because I called them out for giving out my name to a friend of theirs who wrote a fake review. Avoid this place and these people at all costs. There's a nice campground a couple miles down the road.
