We joined some lifelong friends to celebrate a birthday with an overnight trip in late February. Tasha, Elizabeth, Whitney and the rest of the team were amazing. Their love for the dogs is apparent.
My usual definition of "roughing it" is a hotel without room service, so a winter trip without electricity or running water was very outside my comfort zone, but the NK team did a great job prepping us and providing loaner snow pants, mushing boots and sleeping bags that it didn't make sense for us to purchase since we live in Texas. The four person cabin my husband, myself and our friends shared had a wood burning stove that kept us cozy warm all night.
The actual sledding is incredibly peaceful. The fresh snow falling alternating with the sun peaking through and the quiet while you're running is my new peaceful memory when I'm having a stressful day. It was just idyllic.
Our team of NK guides not only kept the dogs safe and fed throughout, they also kept all 10 guests on our trip safe and fed. The guides truly know their dogs like most people do their children. They know their personality quirks, likes and dislikes. There were 82 dogs on our overnight, so lots of care and feeding over two days, but they kept everything organized and on a comfortable schedule.
I realized while in shape for my age, I clearly don't use the muscles needed for dogsledding during my day to day life, so the only thing I'd change is packing some Motrin. I went into this trip thinking it's a "one and done" bucket list trip, but we spent the evening after our trip telling another couple we're friends with we should do all do it together, so who knows...maybe 2022 or 2023 will see us return.
Thank you to everyone at Nature's Kennel. We so enjoyed meeting you, the dogs and the wonderful experience. read more
