This experience was the highlight of our week in the UP. My wife, daugher, grandaughter, and son-in-law had "literally" the time of our lives at Kim's Husky Haven Kennels. I knew prior it would be an educationally fun environment, but I had no idea just how meaningful it would be. We all left there simply filled with the peace and love of knowing just how well these 78 sled dogs are cared for. Participating in the entire process of preping the team for the run was the real deal when it comes to life experiences. Kim, with her competent staff, have really thought of everything in developing this amazing program. This is not just her business, this (and these dogs) are her life! You will not be disappointed. read more

My husband and I received a dogsledding tour for Christmas from our daughter and son in law. This was one of the most wonderful experiences we have had. Kim and her staff, Tim and Corbin were fabulous. Kim made sure we enjoyed the tour and that we felt safe. First we listened to Kim tell us about her experience in the Iditarod, then we got to meet many of her 65 dogs. They are so loving and cared for. Then we saw them hook up the dogs to the sled. We got to put on their booties. The other dogs were so excited, wishing they would be picked. We got to drive the sled and to sit in the basket. You will enjoy every minute of the time you spend at Husky Haven. read more

If you are in the area of Munising, MI, Husky Haven is a must to see and visit. Kim and Jane (owners) are so informative and awesome to work with. We were educated on their love of dog sledding and racing. Kim said it well, "when you come to visit as a friend/visitor, you leave as Family." This is very true. We visited with their dogs who are very well trained and want all the attention you can give. We did not want to leave but, I will be returning in the winter to play/sled with their dogs. I am now Very enlightened on the world of Dog Racing and now have a keen appreciation for the owners of these dogs who participate in racing. So much hard work taking care of their dogs. You can see their commitment to such a life. Please add, Husky Haven to your list of fun to see/visit soon. I will be back soon Kim, Jane to see the pups. read more

We booked on short notice and on a whim, and I'm so glad we did. We got to meet the dogs and learned about sledding, then went for a gorgeous ride through the trails. We both got plenty of time on the sled both riding up front and standing in back, but seeing how much the dogs enjoyed pulling it from the snowmobile was really cool! The passion of the owners, their knowledge of the sport, and their love for the dogs really shines through every bit of this experience. I couldn't possibly recommend it more. They even include A CD of digital photos for you! read more

We had no idea what to expect when we signed up to go dog sledding. I can not begin to tell you what an amazingly unexpected ride it was. The joy that the dogs derive from going on a run is a joy that can't help but put a smile on your face. I'm not even a dog person(Don't judge), yet it was even moving for me to see the enjoyment they got from working. A tear might have been shed when we took off. Husky Haven gives you the whole package. You get to meet all the dogs, help get them ready, learn the history of dog sledding, and take the ride of a lifetime. I will definitely go next year and I wouldn't go anywhere but to Husky Haven. Kim is beyond knowledgable, and has every right to brag of her accomplishments, but maintains a humbleness that begs to be appreciated. Just do it! Go on a dog sled ride with Husky Haven read more

Husky Haven Sled Dogs was established in 1999 with 2 Samoyed's and a dream to run Iditarod. In 2009 that dream came true as we were the first NJ team to qualify, enter, and run the Iditarod Sled Dog Race in Alaska. In 2014 we really wanted to live where there was more snow and colder temperatures and the upper peninsula of Michigan was one of our favorite places as we had previously trained here for our Iditarod run. We moved our 4 legged kids and started giving dog sledding tours in addition to training for races. Our tours are with a double driver sled so our guests get to drive with a another person explaining what to do and what to look for. The area boasts miles of picturesque trails, complete with waterfalls and an abundance of wildlife. Come meet all of our lovable Alaskan Huskies. Learn about this unique and fascinating mode of travel and feel the incredible power of dog sledding for yourself. We have such a good time with lots of picture taking and hot chocolate at the end of the tour. We are a small local operation that is not in a hurry to get rid of you for the next tour. We take our time, answer all of your questions, and provide a truly unique experience to be remembered for a lifetime.

There will never be enough that we can say about Husky Haven or Kim & Jean, that make it all happen. We were here with our 4 granddaughters (ages 8-13) to dog sled as their Christmas present from us. Unfortunately, the directions Kim had given us, blew out of our backpack the previous day while hiking the ice caves; and it wasn't until we started to make the drive to Husky Haven, that our fears of missing this special day, became founded. When Kim says there is no GPS or cell phone service, she means it. We turned to On-Star as what we thought was our only hope, only to find that they routed us onto a road that is not used for anything other than snowmobiles. We were stuck in the middle of nowhere, with nothing around us, 2 degree weather and nobody around. There were some very dark thoughts at that moment in time. God bless the snowmobiles that eventually turned onto that road to see us stranded there, with the biggest cry for help! As we headed back to our hotel, well past our tour time, we were thankful to literally have had our lives back. The girls couldn't have been more appreciative for the fun they had had already on the trip and thanked us for everything a million times. We felt so blessed to have had those kind of kids. As we continued on, luckily we stopped for gas at Melstrand's Union General Store. Dawn (the attendant) showed such kindness toward us and reached out to Husky Haven to let them know we were coming back with the directions she had given us. The girls would get their sled ride after all. With our hearts racing from this whole day already, back we went. When I say Kim & Jean are two of the most amazing people we have ever met, it's because I mean it from the bottom of my heart. At this point in time, we certainly never expected to get anything close to our full tour, but they made sure we did. We were welcomed with what felt like open arms, and the girls were bowled over with all of it. . .the stories, the dogs, the sled ride, and the attention that was showed to them by Kim & Jean. Jean even took the time to write the names of all 44 dogs on a piece of paper for our little Hannah. Who does that? This is a must stop for anyone looking for a wonderful experience and memories to last forever. It will always be held close to our hearts. A huge "Thank You," once again from our whole family! Kim and Jean did a fantastic job with our family. They took us through the history of dog sledding and racing. Then we got to go meet the dogs. From the senior retired dogs all the way down to the puppies, we could tell all the dogs were well cared for and loved. We got to learn how the dogs got hooked up and booted up. Then it was our chance to drive. Kim is on the sled with a double driver sled and all the members of our party got a chance to drive right down to our 2 year old. They run a snowmobile out front for other members of your party to take pictures while they await their turn to drive. I can't recommend this place enough for families. We have all age kids from 2-18 and they were great for them all. Our 10 year old was nervous to drive but they made the experience feel safe for him and he really enjoyed that he got to do it. They are so accommodating and hospitable, wanting to make sure every member of our party had their best experience. My only advice is to heed their directions and don't follow your GPS. They even put up signs which I ignored. We got stuck and had to get pulled out. read more

Excellent place to experience dog sledding for the first time! Jean and Kim are wonderful people and did not hesitate to provide us with a flexible schedule. One of the most affordable option. for dog sledding in michigan's Upper Peninsula. The weather was severe on the day that we had scheduled for and the roads had not been plowed, making it impossible for us to get out to the kennel for some sledding. (My poor little wagon does not fair well in deep snow) Kim contacted me to let me know the conditions of the roads and we were able to reschedule for the following day. The dogs are extremely pleasant to be around and love running the sleds more than anything in the world. Be sure to come prepared! Weather can be crazy cold and standing on a sled can get chilly. Don't let a little cold weather ruin your trip because you weren't prepared! Even if you do find yourself getting cold, Kim and Jean are happy to try and make accommodations for you. Couldn't be happier with our experience. read more

When the kids were younger, we would travel to historical sites. No matter how large or small these places were, we learned about the struggle and the dreams of those that came before us. (Slavehaven in Tennessee, the Little Rock Nine, Salem Massachusetts, Gettysburg, Antietam, Cahokia Mounds, Missouri etc) Now that the kids are older, we look for activities to do together as a family; things we have never done before. Dog sledding was one such experience and I'm so glad that we came upon Husky Haven. This place brought both our passion for learning and our wanting to be active in a beautiful way. We enjoyed being able to help prepare the sleds, putting the dog booties on, being able to drive, and treating the team after the ride was over. The conversation afterward was the cherry on top. You can tell that Husky Haven is not just a business, it's a family that is opening it's doors and welcoming you with open arms. We can't wait to go back! read more

We had the greatest experience at Husky Haven Kennels! Kim, the owner/operator, was a wealth of knowledge and fantastic with the dogs. Jean is the kennel manager and is hands on with the dogs as well. She is full of great information and a great photographer as well. We had a history lesson and question/answer time and then went to meet the dogs. They were all so happy and playful and really excited to go on a run. Who knew we would get to put booties on dogs! Not as easy as they make it look. When it was time to ride, one of us rode on the snowmobile with Jean so that we cold take pics of the dogs and sled. Kim was on the sled with the other one of us. We switched half way through. What a beautiful countryside. Amazing views. Lots of snow! The ride was so relaxing I can't wait to do it again someday. After our ride, they gave us a CD with the pics that Jean had taken. What great memories! read more

My son loves the husky breed so I decided to do this for him for Christmas. Kim and Jean are very knowledgeable and it was great meeting them. They let us meet multiple dogs and the puppies. They took took us out on the trail and it was awesome to see the dogs doing what they love. When we left for the trail the other dogs all barked cause they were jealous they didn't get to go. It's a very fun and unique experience. I'd love to plan another trip. We didn't feel rushed like you'd feel at other places. We came back and were given hot chocolate and could ask more questions and just talked. Cant come up with the right words to say to really tell about how awesome everything was and how great Kim and Jean are. You'll just have to do it yourself to find out. read more

If I could live here, I would. We were in Munising on a family vacation and it was too cold to take out kids on the water so I looked for something else to do and this came up. It was really more for me than my kids but it was such an incredible experience. We called up Jean and she had us come by and meet all of the dogs. She answered every one of my questions and we got to spend time giving pets and belly rubs. I own 2 rescue dogs and have always been a fan of huskies so getting to hang out with them was so cool. You can tell how well-loved they are and how much care goes into Husky Haven. I'm going to try to convince my husband to go up in the winter so we can see them sled. I recommend this to everyone! read more

Thank you Kim, Jean, and Mark for a great time. My husband and I experienced an unbelievable tour at Husky Haven Kennels today. Kim did a wonderful presentation about the Iditarod, which she has participated in. We were shown around the kennel and included in getting the dogs ready for the ride. After some instruction, we took off on our dog sled ride with both of us having a chance to drive. What a once in a lifetime experience!!! The folks here show so much passion for the sport and love for the dogs that it is contagious for anyone who enjoys learning about a unique mode of transportation. We highly recommend you get out there and see them for your own personal experience. read more

Kim and Jean and their fur babies are absolutely fantastic. If you have ever wanted to try dog sledding, definitely pay these women a visit. Their dogs are well cared for, gentle and loving. Kim and Jean are extremely friendly, knowledgeable and kind hosts. My son (5) and daughter (3) were so excited to meet all of the dogs and experience dog sledding. My parents, husband and I enjoyed learning about Kim's racing experience with the Iditarod as well as all about the Alaskan Huskies. We were involved in every step of going for a ride including putting shoes on the dogs, mushing the sled, watering the dogs at the end and giving them lots of cuddles for a job well done! read more

My family of 3 young boys had a wonderful afternoon at Husky Haven. The whole afternoon was perfectly catered to our family and kept my 3 year old happy. Kim was great with our older boys who loved learning about dog racing, the Iditarod, and the individual dogs and their stories and personalities. Loving being out on the trails on the sled, and on the snow mobile as well. Kim was very patient and made sure everyone had turns driving the sled. If you are looking for an authentic adventure, at a beautiful location, with really nice people, this is the place to go. As my older sons said - the tour was EPIC! read more

Kim and Jean were fantastic! We went with our 2 kids and they had a blast. It was educational & hands-on for them as they learned about dogsledding, the Iditarod, and the breeds of dogs. We got to help the dogs get their booties on, feed the dogs, etc. They clearly love the dogs and the dogs love sledding. These dogs were beyond excited when the time came to get harnessed up. We got lots of great pictures--they knew just where to pause to get some of the best photos. Highly recommended for both kids and adults! Reasonably priced & the money goes right back to caring for the dogs. read more

I've known Kim and her racing team for over 18 years....I witnessed the birth of most the dogs and helped train them in New Jersey before she took them with her on her Iditarod Race in 2009....she now lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where she gives dog sledding tours right out of her log cabin....stop by, pay her a visit, and take a dog sledding ride....it's guaranteed to be the experience of a lifetime you won't soon forget....plus there's hot chocolate and cookies waiting at the end of every ride....you won't regret it!! read more

If I could give them more stars I would!!! One of the best experiences of my life. We took our 6 year old for her Xmas gift, but the parents enjoyed it just as much!!! The dogs LOVE to pull and run! We had the pleasure of seeing clapper in action and she didn't disappoint! They all get so excited to go and don't want to stop! We also really enjoyed learning about Kim's Iditarod run and the methodology behind it. Both Kim and Jean are so sweet and their passion shows! We will definitely be back!!! read more

My husband bought this experience for my son and I for a Christmas present. And it was a wonderful experience! They taught a little bit of history of the sport, took us to meet the dogs, and let us drive the sled (with help, of course). It's obvious how passionate Kim and Jean are about dog sledding and taking care of the dogs themselves! It's not just a job for them - it's their life and it shows. I highly recommend this experience and would do it again in a heartbeat. read more

Great experience, learned a lot. Very exciting being pulled on sled by all the dogs, could have gone longer it was so much fun. Very nice people, good with children and families. Dress for the weather. A once in a lifetime experience! Provided great pictures for us along with hot chocolate at the end. Easy directions to get there, no cell reception at all, so don't plan to follow your GPS. If in the area a must do. read more
