So yummy and fresh!
Thanh Q.

I love all things coconut and mango and had to try this place. Love all the options and mixtures. So refreshing and yummy. Mango river is my favorite. The coco mango puree is another top flavor. Service was quick and friendly. Ambiance is bright and delightful. Def would return to buy more.

I LOVE stores like this and wish we had one in San Francisco. Northgate is like a huge mega store that includes a bakery, taqueria, butcher department and more. They have so many types of salsas, chips, tamales, ceviches, etc. My head was spinning. I picked up so much, but my favorite items were the aquachiles, ceviche and the habanero salsa. The strawberry and pineapple tamales were okay, but not the best I've had. Still I love that they offer these options and more.

I don't remember what was here before North Gate, but I used to go to the other location on University Ave and 54th, this one definitely bigger in terms of architecture design, they have a large space for the cafeteria with a long food togo lines both in front and behind the counter, a decent space to sit down and enjoy your food after purchasing them from the express kiosk. I always like the chicharrones con carne here and of course their signature cornbread. Less than a pound of chicharrones should last you a whole day with all the fat contents :) I also ordered some fish filets and some carne asada to try out, the fish were a bit chewy on the outside but the inside were ok, guess the heat lamps did some damage on them for sitting too long. The beef on the other hand were fresh, tender and juicy for the most part. Their cash registers aren't the best, it got frozen, and I had to wait for it to restart so I can pay for my food, they noticed I was hungry so they let me sit down and eat my food then told me to keep the barcodes on each bags to check out after they fixed the issue. Also their parking lots design were not great either. Still the food last me for 3 days now

So today my husband was craving some chicharrón and since they have cheese I decided to get some panela then a saw that they have some "queso with chipotle" and don't get me wrong it look good And I was about to get one UNTIL I LOOK CLOSELY AND IT WAS FULL OF MOLD

Tamale pricing.

Finding this grocery store upon moving to California was the first time I'd ever seen and shopped at a Mexican supermarket, but I was pleasantly surprised to see the variety of items and brands they carry as well as an extensive produce section, a hot bar and a bakery. . What I really like about this place is their competitive prices, the hot bar, the home goods and the produce. At the hot bar, they have daily specials including a taco Tuesday deal that includes three (3) tacos with rice and beans. Tacos are $2 each! You won't find them that cheap anywhere else. There's TONS of Mexican products that aren't just food. They have hand painted clay pots and bowls, tin cups and utensils and other handmade dishware. The produce section is HUGE and most of it comes from Mexico such as the papayas, tamarind and hibiscus flowers. . One downside is this location does not have many organic products or vegan/plant based options outside of the produce, nonetheless whenever I need a quick breakfast, lunch or dinner, I'll stop by here. It's clean also, has restrooms and the staff always practice Spanish with me. Be sure to get there before the dinner rush though as the lines get CRAZY long. . Glad to support a local grocer!

I LOVE Northgate Market! Best place to pick up premade food for a fabulous Taco Tuesday (or any day of the week). they have great "family packs" in a variety of sizes that include meat/beans/rice/tortillas/salsa. The carnitas are so damn good here!!! the meat market part is awesome! always get meat for the BBQ here...some marinated and some not. produce rocks also. my favorite things here though are the fresh made guacamole (there is literally a lady making it for you and as spicy as you want) and the ceviche by the pound ...shrimp/fish/mixed/spicy/not spicy...omg it's all so fresh and delicious...sometimes i just stop to grab chips/guac/ceviche for a fabulous meal!!! everyone is super friendly here. I do not speak spanish and was intimidated on my first visit, but quickly learned that it is not a barrier at all =) i'll keep shopping here

Here the schedule for this store

Sunday 11-26-23 Schedule says they close doors at 10pm I got there at 9:55pm and they manager and guard had doors closed already and telling people from the inside that it was closed waiving their hands I even show them the time on my phone and still didn't care. The schedule says clearly 7am to 10pm which means they are doing false advertising of their store schedules. So if they don't want to deal with last minute customers before closing then state that customers aren't allowed 30 minutes before closing time that will save customers time.

Their cakes may be pricey, but…read morein my opinion, for the amount of work, effort, and quality of ingredients, I think they continue to be fair. For example, some other specialty bakeries/shops are charging similar prices for cakes and cheesecakes that are much simpler. In comparison, Extraordinary Dessert cakes take 3-4 days to make, have 6-8 alternating layers, and are typically adorned with edible gold and/or flowers. The key is to find which items you like and which are okay to pass on next time. What we ried this time: -Match Misu Cake (7/10): ricotta cake layers soaked in matcha and layered with marscapone whipped cream. This one was pretty good and ranks in my middle to high range. I only wish there was more matcha flavor (maybe if you dine in and get the sauce, this would help) or the matcha was paired with another flavor ... either go fruity (maybe a raspberry sauce, strawberry pieces, white peach pieces, or like a peach oolong cream layer) or go chocolately/coffee (maybe had some crushed up chocolate covered espresso beans). My go to's: -Ivoire Royale (10/10) - my ultimate favorite still. If you like light desserts, white chocolate, berries, and moist vanilla cake, thus one is for you. Classy and unpretentious -Shangrila (10/10) - my other favorite and will make you feel like a princess with all the pink chocolate curls. A little bit adventurous and innocently elegant. Ones to skip: -Au Chocolate / La Bete Noire / Dame Chocolate - get the Viking instead. That's my favorite of all their chocolate cakes -Lemon ricotta - get the Passionfruit Ricotta instead -Torta misu - the matcha misu is better. The tortilla misuse made me want a regular piece of tirmaisu than a cake version -Coconut cream - not bad, not amazing though

Also just so everyone is aware they're also liars just to mention & stupid.. she tells us her name is Karen thinking we don't know the owners name lol .. She was at the register at 7:20pm and was extremely rude and dismissive after we placed our order, especially regarding a child's dietary restrictions and health concerns. We politely asked if it would be possible to purchase a small cup of fruit , even just a couple strawberries cut up, because one child in our group cannot have sweets due to very strict dietary restrictions . Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did . The complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service was honestly shocking. It's disappointing to be treated that way at a place we have supported so consistently. This place has been going downhill , management for this place needs to step up .

Flour Atelier is a small bakery right next to the hovering Mitsuwa. They carry two refrigerated sections' worth of original treats and pastries, many with Asian flavors such as their ube leche flan and calamansi cheesecake. I'm a gluten free girly nowadays, but when I could eat their desserts I did love their cheesecake: a balance of cream-to-crust is important to me. And those flavors? Standout. Hard to find many other places. They also have tea and coffee, and my husband and I LOVE their hojicha latte, which boasts a nice earthy-to-sweet ratio. If you want a grounded flavor without getting another coffee, try the hojicha latte! The store itself is quite small, selling sweet treats, drinks, and even flowers through a collaboration with a florist. They have about 4 tables outside -- recommended for small parties, unless you come when it's empty with a group. BIG TIP: Bring your mother or mother-in-law here to impress -- that is, if she likes cute, sweet treats and a tea party vibe! My mom always loves coming here, and bringing the whole family, too Keep up the great work Flour Atelier!

Many reviews have noted this, and I would have to agree, especially for the size (crepe cake slices) and/or simple design (two layer naked cakes). We ended up trying a slice of their taro crepe cake. It was tasty - light, smooth, and included real taro - and had alternating layers of cream and taro; however, we were surprised with how small it was in person (vs photos) for $12.50 before tax. This is just below the price for an Extraordinary Desserts cake slice, which is not only bigger and more complex, but also made fresh. We noticed the crepe cake slice we got had that dusting of ice sparkles, indicating it was frozen and defrosting, and additionally, as it defrosted, the more it started leaning. If you haven't tried Yiko Yiko, it's worth still checking out. That said, I think you'll be satisifed after one or two visits.

Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.

The middle section had pistachio frangipane (or it looked like it) with coarsely chopped pistachios that brought another layer of crunch! Then to top it all off, it had pistachio cream on top of the cookie! I only wish I got another one. CAPPUCCINO It was okay. But love the foam! It was frothy and foamy! PAVLOVA The meringue was a bit too hard and too sweet and the pastry cream was overwhipped. Loved the fresh fig and blueberries though. I was looking forward to eating pavlova and this was very disappointing! KOUIGN AMANN Very buttery and sticky! Crispy on the outside. Every bite was not dry, but chewy. There was this sticky and chewy texture that wasn't unpleasant, yet it wasn't fully flaky like a croissant. But glad it was not dry! The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie!
