I was impressed on my most recent visit to Northgate Mall. I remember when it was a popular place to be and every storefront was filled. I have fond memories of going to see dinosaur eggs at Northgate Mall and also of visiting Santa Claus as a child. I remember when it was, for all intents and purposes, a dead mall. Now, it is something in between. There is a wing that is very well occupied. There is another wing that is almost entirely empty. The new cinemas look great, although, I haven't been to see a movie in them. My brother has, however, and he says it is his new favorite. If you go expecting an experience like Kenwood Mall, you will be disappointed. On the other hand, if you go without expectations in hand, I think you will be surprised by the progress it has made. I hope it is able to sustain this progress moving forward. read more

I told the manager and he did not replace the one I purchased. I bought a new one without salt. I will not go there again. Man..this mall has seen better days. I've only visited it once or twice prior but I don't remember it being as run down as it was this past weekend. It reminded me of Eastgate Mall a bit..but where it seems like the people running Eastgate are actually trying to build it up and make it better, the people at Northgate seem to have given up. Empty storefronts all over, a food court that had like 6 mediocre options, it being decorated up for Christmas was kind of depressing. Such a run-down interior with bows and lights strung up here and there..just sad looking. The stores that were here all seem kind of run down as well. They seem like your normal stores when you first walk in, but then like much of the rest of the mall, there's just a stale feeling all over..it's even in the air there. There was one single store I was impressed with, it was a gaming store near the food court. It was so organized and they had such a nice selection! Also in the back of the store they had basically a mini retro arcade you could play in. Old school Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat..they even had a Wreck it Ralph replica game..so cool. Other than that the only other thing the mall has going for it is a newerish state of the art movie theater right in the center. It's pretty nice..and seems waaay out of place at this mall. So basically I would put this mall on the same tier as Tri County..they're both upsetting examples of how malls are just deteriorating..mainly due to the people running them just not caring. Eastgate is a good example of a mall that could be just as bad off as these two, but they're actually trying to not go down that road..where as these places seem to just not care. read more

I hate to say this but when you get Burlington Coat Factory, the mall is finished. I've seen two malls in Indianapolis (and 1 in Philadelphia) so adorned, and it's too late for them. I haven't been to Northgate Mall for years and I was shocked to see a construction project and not much else. They have a Macy's and JC Penney, but other than filling a local gap, I think people will go elsewhere to shop, such as Tri-County Mall which itself is in decline. I wish them better days but I have a feeling Kmart will take a place there sooner or later to replace JC Penney. The food court had a couple of good choices and the mall itself was well-maintained. It's just sad that the hope is gone. read more

I was at this mall last weekend and there were actual tigers and a few other animals on display right smack dab in the middle of the mall! (Big Cats LIVE Tour) If you had the time and desire, you could even get inside a cage with a baby tiger and pet it. It was kinda cool, and also a little interesting in light of the Columbus man with all the animals that released them and killed himself. As a few have mentioned, the mall was victim to some bad business dealings, particularly in regards to a movie theater that was not built. Time will tell if the mall will rise above the bad economy and the failed movie theater, but for now, I think it's at least trying to keep things nice. The food court has a decent variety and plenty of seating. I tend to navigate towards the healthier options, so Subway is a nice sight to see. There is Kabuto (Asian), a Gold Star, a TGI Friday's and about a dozen more places. I will try to maintain my hopes that this mall will stay open and in good shape. While I loathe rampant consumerism, when a huge mall closes, it means lots of lower wage workers lose their jobs and have to scramble for employment. This is probably my favorite of our local malls. It, like all the rest, had been plagued by store closings. They seem to need another good, anchor store now that Sears is gone. I've been going here for years and always liked it. It's open and there's always room to walk. They just need to keep their spaces filled. And get an entertainment store in there!!! read more

Northgate Mall feels like a remnant of something that used to be much more. Located on the extremely busy Colerain Avenue, it is the kind of mall that has almost as many empty store fronts as it does occupied. These kinds of malls always make me feel slightly depressed, like I'm walking around the insides of a rotting corpse. Gross imagery aside, Northgate has the trappings of any other mall, a food court that has fairly decent food, a couple restaurants in and surrounding it and a requisite Payless. There are some prospects on the horizon for Northgate though. The main thing that I think management is banking on is the reopening of the mall's movie theater. Hopefully it will be completely revamped and resembling other new theaters in the area so as to draw in a large crowd of people malls heavily rely on for life: teenagers. read more

I went to Northgate Mall for the first time in a loooong time, and I have to say that I was surprised-- I had no idea that many store were still in the mall! Over the last few years, Northgate Mall has lost several anchor stores, and I was under the impression that it was turning into another "dead mall". And while it is certainly not a bustling mall, it doesn't need life support quite yet. I noticed a sign in the mall that said next year they will be adding a DSW shoe store and a Marshall's. I'm not sure where they will be located, but those are two additions that will definitely pump a little bit more life into this mall. read more

Northgate Mall is really much like any other mall you have ever been in. Food court, small mall shops, and a couple of bigger retailers on the outskirts. However, even though most of the mall's store fronts are occupied, something just seems off about this place. Honestly, I think it is just getting old and it is really showing its age, especially compared to the area's other malls such as Tricounty and Kenwood. On the other hand, this mall does have some interesting shops inside of it, with Games coming to mind. For me though, it just isn't enough to warrant return trips. Unless it is convenient, I would recommend taking your money elsewhere. read more

Oh Northgate Mall! I remember back in the day when this mall was popular! Now that's not really the case. Lots of stores have left the mall and there are a few empty store fronts. The only redeeming qualities for me are the Macy's & New York and Company stores. I think these are better than the ones at Tri-County Mall. Those 2 stores are the only reason I go to Northgate Mall! Northgate Mall on Colerain Avenue opened in 1972 and has undergone three renovations, most recently in 2001. The interior--one of the main focuses of the 2001 transformation--looks very nice and it is spacious, but it doesn't leave a good first impression if you walk through the main entrance. There you will see 12 or 15 stores in the front wing, nine of which have gone out of business and are currently vacant (there are a couple other closed stores in the mall, although there are no signs of replacing any of them). The mall is nice and there are many quality stores and familiar faces such as Express, American Eagle, Aeropostale, Rogers Jewelers, EB Games, Things Remembered, Champs Sports, and Limited Too. Northgate is anchored, meanwhile, by Dillard's, Macys, and Sears. There are also some stores unique to this mall, an Applebee's, and the food court looks pretty decent, but there are also some lower quality stores too. Even though I went on a Monday afternoon, I expected it to be more crowded than it was. While it's nice to not have to fight through a busy Kenwood-like crowd, the low number of shoppers makes the 10 or 12 vacancies less of a surprise. I did like the Northgate Mall for the most part, and it's a decent place to shop if you live in the area or even in Southeast Indiana, but it's not something about which you should get too excited. I think it's better than Eastgate on the other side of Cincinnati, but it's not much more than an average mall. read more

I remember Northgate Mall as a vibrant and busy place where seniors like my aunt often came often came to walk with a decent size food court and big annual mall sales. Now seniors still walk here and the food court is the pretty much the same but the mall is uneventful. There are still anchor stores like Macy's, Sears and now the Burlington Coat Factory but the rest of this one story mall including Macy's is pretty much dead. I have been there 3 or 4 times on an early weekday afternoon in the past few months for a brief retail job. There are employees and Mall vendors standing around with nothing to do and some empty store fronts. Yes there is a very large Xscape 14 movie theater that I have been to on several occasions over the past year attached to the mall. It has a clearly visible exterior entrance so I am not sure that it brings a lot of foot traffic to the stores inside the mall. Plus all of the newer big name stores like DSW have their own very visible exterior entrances. Maybe the neighborhood has changed or I have just not visited the mall at an evening time for a while but to be honest I do not even think about going there when I need any clothing or to eat out anymore. Instead Kenwood Mall comes to mind for restaurants and places like Target for getting good quality and fashionable clothing and accessories. Northgate Mall is facing the same troubles as other older malls: vacancies and a sense of decline. It was opened in 1972 on a former air field, and brought on great growth of northwestern Cincinnati, along with the soul-sucking traffic and hodge-podge assortment of business on the Colerain corridor. It opened with Sears on one end, the hometown McAlpin's (later Dillard's) n the other, and a three-story Pogue's in the center, and a great clerestory interior and center court. The mall held up for the next couple decades, and was heavily renovated in 1993, with the addition of a center food court, and a new wing branched between Sears and JCPenney (originally Pogue's), anchored by Lazarus, and a parking deck connected to Sears and Lazarus (now Macy's). In the mid 2000s, there would be some interior remodeling to give the mall a classier look, but it wouldn't stop decline. A new lifestyle center to the north pulled JCPenney away, and vacated what I thought was a great 1970s structure, especially with the elevator/escalator atrium in the middle. The store was demolished in the winter of 2008, intended for a new Rave Motion Pictures cinema, but that deal fell through, leaving a gaping hole. Not long after, Dillard's vacated the space, and remains so. Northgate still has a good basic selection of stores and eateries for the locals, but hardly is it comprehensive shopping destination it once was. It's still worth a visit, but nothing like Kenwood, or even Tri-County. read more

Affectionately referred to as the "ghetto mall"...Northgate is another of the old shopping centers teetering on the edge of the mall abyss. Stores seem to come and go with great frequency and you know you're in trouble niche-iest of niche stores start appearing in large numbers (I always go to the mall for my kimonos, woodcraft and hand and a half long swords...I mean, who doesn't?) I agree with all the previous reviews that this place is showing its age... really, really showing its age. Because of the troubled economy and changes in the surrounding neighborhood, this place can sometime feel like a ghost town. Though Dillard's and JC Penney are gone, Macy's seems to be alive and strong. And almost all the small specialty shops in the mall are filled. This is actually my go-to mall to shop at. Yes, it isn't as nice as other ones. But, it still has all of my favorite stores- NY&C, Body Central, Charlotte Russe, the Icing, and Macy's. I can shell out some serious cash here as well as any other mall. I will say that the employees at all the stores seem slightly less enthusiastic than those at other malls. Service may not be as good as it once was. But, I will still continue to shop here because it is the closest mall to my house. read more

+1 Star - It has Burlington Coat Factory! Found my daughter's Homecoming dress here. -1 Star - Couldn't find Facilities Personnel or Security Officers for while. -1 Star - Hard to reach anybody from Administrative or Security Offices during biz hrs -2 Star - Mall makes it hard to reach anyone for assistance, getting roundabout. Needed to rent a wheelchair, so looked for an info booth. Wandered around aimlessly in the mall. Not listed on Directory a Mall Info Booth or Mall Services location. Asked mall employees for help. This mall doesn't even have such a thing, which is sort of a joke, but whatever. I was told to find the Security Ofc. So I go searching for it, which is supposed to be not far from Sears. Sears and Macy's incidentally are the anchor stores of the mall. I suppose Burlington might be considered an anchor store. DSW is supposed to be open but their door were closed and they still had signage saying it would be opened like September 5th if I remember. Must've been delays. So I had no luck finding Security but I managed to find Mall Administration Offices. Nobody was there of help. There was a phone but nothing was labeled so I had no way of paging anybody. This mall's hours on Sunday are Noon - 6 PM which is sad, but even sadder is the fact nobody mans the office during business hours. After waiting around a while, and asking any passersby who would even listen to my story, I finally ran into somebody who said I need to locate a Security officer or Facilities person (wears blue uniform and carries a walkie talkie). Great. Just what I needed. Not only was I in for a day at the mall with my fiancee and four girls in their early teens, the Mall had the gall to send me off running like a chicken w/my head cut off. So I look around and find nobody. I walk outside to see if anybody's hanging out in the two police cars are. Nobody but other mall visitors/customers. Browse the mall for assistance. Nothing. I ask Kay's Jewelers if they've a way to page Security so I can rent a wheelchair. They say they've no way to reach them. I call BS. Tell me WHAT jewelry store doesn't have a way to reach Security?! IMR! Frustration rising I ask someone in Bath and Body Works and she says, sure! She was going to provide a # for me to call, but I don't own a cell phone, so she called on my behalf. No answer. She said she'd try again in a few minutes; meanwhile, she goes off to help customers (their stores already getting busy). Note that by this time it's already around 12:30-12:45 PM. Mall is open Noon to 6 PM. I touch bases with the employee (thinking I really need to get back to the family before they send out a Search Party) at Bath and Body Works and she reaches someone live and says somebody's in the Admin office. I head over there and note also the Administration Office says NOTHING about being a Security Office as well. So a bit of confusion there, but you are able to peek into the room containing the wheelchairs. Couldn't find anyone and I walked upstairs again to see if someone was in the office upstairs when I hear someone calling me back downstairs. It's an officer! He's courteous and all and helps hook me up with a wheelchair (you must show them your DL so they can write down by hand your info). Tip: Inspect the wheelchair before taking it. There's one or two decent ones, but on one the pedals squeak and one or two are missing pedals entirely. Note: On all their wheelchairs I couldn't find any with a back pocket. Also, they seem to carry the standard/smaller size, not the extra wide version. Tip: Ask them for their office's business card w/their phone #. As you get close to leaving the mall, call that phone # so they have time to meet you there to receive the wheelchair (in our case, it was pointless because they asked me to just leave it there and he'd put it away later) Big gripes: 1) only seem to have 1 or 2 officers patrolling the entire mall. 2) way too hard for customers & mall employees to reach security, facilities 3) mall employees need training so they know how to reach security, facilities 4) How can they have any chance in heck of responding to an emergency, be it a theft, a crime, a fight, anything, when either nobody's at work yet during business hours, or nobody has any means by which to request emergency assistance in a reasonable timeframe. By the time security arrives at the mall the criminal could be clear and gone. After I finally got the wheelchair like Murphy's Law suddenly I see a facilities guy, and then soon thereafter two officers walking together. 5) Officers could be at one end of the mall and a crime could be happening on the opposite end and they won't be able to stop it at all. Food Court is so-so. It's got Applebees, a cookie place, Subway, etc All that aside, it's great to have a Burlington Coat Factory. My fiancee and I both found great deals on winter coats. So I guess Northgate is kind of the bummy mall in the Cincinnati area. I've been to Kenwood and heard about a few others. I was here on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and this place was completely empty. I would expect a lot of shoppers out and about trying to get a head start on some holiday shopping. I didn't see much that was wrong with this mall but I don't go to the mall to shop in general. Maybe after a few more experiences I can get an understanding for why this mall doesn't gain a lot of traffic. read more

I'm not a fan of malls. I feel I should start with that. As malls go, however, Northgate is a good one. There's plenty of parking and several ways to get in and out. It's full - what I mean is that there aren't empty stores or weird/scary vacant parts of the mall (like others around Cincy). It's anchored by a few big names - I like Macy's a lot, they have good quality menswear. It otherwise seems to have all the stores you'd expect. They have a cool train at Christmas time if you have young kids. read more

I am writing about Rogers Jewelers in Northgate Mall. Lynda Thomas was amazing with my replacement rings when I had lost my original custom made pieces from 2007. She was great and personable at recreating them, shared lots of information, helped me out and kept me in the loop. I followed her from the Kenwood location, to Tri County, to Eastgate and now to Northgate. She is awesome! I would recommend purchasing or having custom designed jewelry made through her! read more

The mall itself is not bad at all, however the woman that manges the mall is a despicable person! She is the most unfriendly and unprofessional person I have ever come across in my entire life! If you are a business owner - STEER CLEAR OF THIS MALL AS LONG AS SHE IS MANAGING IT!!! She is hardly ever there, she lies to you about renting - gets your hopes up - then tells you TOO BAD (in so many words) - and then the BEST part is she completely IGNORES you and treats you as if you don't deserve any type of explanation as to why things changed!!!
