It is conveniently located near Rittenhouse Square, The Schuylkill trail and 30th Street Station. The only reason I prefer this place over other gas stations is that they have a Subway. It is just like a regular one with the fresh ingredients and good sandwiches. They don't really have a sit down area though. The gas here is a bit pricey, but at least they got rid of the TVs, which used to be loud and annoying.

Sometimes they don't even mark them as unavailable or broken, and you find out only after going all the way through the pre-fill process. In the warmer months, you can find folks out here offering to re-rack your gas pump so that they can not fully re-rack it and then invite their friends to fill up on your card. Do be careful and only return your pump yourself, no matter how friendly the offer. The 7-Eleven itself is slightly below average in cleanliness, and honestly I haven't checked it out that much because I'm too wary of leaving my car unattended when I come here to fill up on my own. Will I still come here to fill up? Yes, since the alternative for me is going out to West Philadelphia and this is good enough. But not a great place to go if you can avoid it.

I called Mark in a panic because I'd been trying for a week to get a propane delivery from Amerigas, with whom we've done business for 3 years. We were on automatic delivery, but Amerigas wouldn't schedule a delivery , even though our tanks were down to 13% capacity (and they told us to notify them if we got below 30%). They act like a bureaucratic dinosaur that can't get out of its own way. You have to deal with a nationwide call center and can never reach the same person twice. It was frustrating and infuriating beyond belief. I finally gave up, sent a certified letter to Amerigas telling them to remove their 3 100-gallon tanks, and scheduled a visit with Mark from Independence. Mark was willing to come out the next day. He and his associate installed 3 tanks, hooked everything up, tested for leaks, lit our pilots and was on his way to the next job in the space of about one hour. Independence has remote monitoring and actually talks to their customers...no more mega call centers to deal with, no Covid-19 excuses, no bureaucracy...just good old customer service and American work ethic. ..just when I thought they were extinct! What a pleasure to deal with Mark Delahanty and Independence Propane.

I purchased/rented one last summer in the Richmond Shops shopping center in Fishtown, next to the Pep Boys. I wanted to exchange it for a new one for the summer, but they're no longer available in the shopping center. It needs to be said without any doubt in my mind - I have never been to the actual Gas Pro location in South Philly. I looked around to see if there was anywhere else closer to me that I could make an exchange, but couldn't find anything, so I tried to get in touch with Gas Pro. I called on a Saturday in the one o'clock hour; Google said they're open until 2:00 on Saturdays. I know Google times aren't always accurate, but when I called and it went to a recorded message, the message said that I had called DURING their hours but nobody was available to take my call. It said to leave my name & number...but then it didn't take me to a voice message system where I could do so. So then I messaged them on Facebook, an exchange documented in my attached photo. I explained that the vendor I got my tank from last year is no more and asked where I could get another one. I also asked about their hours. The responses came off to me as rude and condescending - whoever was on the other end basically tried to say there's no place other than their main location to get their tanks, which was certainly not the case last year. And then he/she lectured me on the difference between a place being closed for the day and out of business. Not only was this needlessly condescending, but it suggested the person didn't understand my two fairly simple messages (aside from the typo "for me grill", which has nothing to do with comprehending my point). The last thing said was that they close at 1:30 on Fridays, despite me having called at 1:46 and their recording saying that I'd called during their hours. Maybe they're worth your while for larger-scale needs, but their customer service leaves something to be desired and sounds oddly unaware of where Gas Pro products were available just last year. I'll just get Blue Rhino or something that presents fewer headaches.

They also sell welding supplies. You hand off your tank and go inside the office to pay. The man behind the register was very friendly and made me feel welcomed. I filled up a 5 pound tank of CO2 for $10.80. I use this for my water carbonating machine. If I kept using the proprietary tank that came with the machine, it would cost $15 for a 14oz tank exchange. 14oz for $15 = $1.07/oz vs 80oz for $10.80 = $0.14/oz You can get CO2 from a lot of places, like homebrew stores or paintball/sporting goods stores, but they tend to be much pricier. If you need some CO2 I highly recommend this place!

The store is highly organized and offers a surprisingly wide array of items for its size. What truly distinguishes it, however, is its staff. They are knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely helpful. Walking in with a problem, they'll help you think through the best solution. Often, the advice alone makes the trip worthwhile, with the purchase being a bonus. In an age where almost everything can be ordered instantly online, places like this still play an essential role. Some issues require judgment and experience, not just a quick online search. The team here clearly knows their craft and is happy to share their expertise. What I especially value is their honesty. They never try to pressure you into buying unnecessary items. If they don't carry what you need, they'll tell you and often point you toward where to find it. Such confidence and integrity are rare. While large stores like Home Depot have vast inventories, for smaller or specialized items, especially related to older Center City homes, this store is often the better choice. Prices are fair, and the quality of guidance enhances the overall value. It's evident that this store is run with pride, care, and years of expertise.
