I had a contract with them 2 years back and renewed this year with them. They usually monitor oil levels and top up when it reaches 50% level. This time, I noticed that they had not refilled even when my level was below 25%. Today I had to call them to remind them! I am critically low today and looks almost certain won't last tomorrow. Very suspect company!! Horrible customer service! Don't expect anyone to return your calls. Paid over $6000 for a new heat air unit in 2019. Never worked right. They charge over 150.00 for someone to come out and do a "diagnostic check". Each time. I feel that I got a lemon. They do not return phone calls. I got burned by this company and just want to warn everyone about them. Crooks. Predatory pricing plans that lock you in paying absurd monthly installments regardless of if you ever turn on your heat. Also locks you into mandatory monthly/periodic deliveries of more oil even if you haven't used ANY since the last delivery. You have to call and argue with them to stop these every time. I regret doing business with them more than almost any other choice in my life---and believe you me, I make terrible choices. I have the day marked on my calendar and am counting down until I am able to cancel my plan without a penalty and never deal with them again. We were left without oil to heat our home on one of the coldest nights of the season so far because the company suddenly decided (after decades of filling our tank without issue) that the tank shouldn't be filled. Called to request at least a temporary tank and they never followed up. Leaving customers who've already paid a significant deposit for fuel without heat or the option of a temporary solution is predatory and criminally bad business. read more

I have been a Meenan customer for almost 30 years. I had an issue two weeks ago where I believe I am being charged for something that is covered under my service contract. We had the exact job performed two other times in the past two years and it was covered. I have been waiting over two weeks now for a phone call back. I was told it would be within 48 hours. Okay, so I've been promised a call from a supervisor for days which has not arrived. We smelt oil in our garage and reported it. The contractor said we were given too much oil which makes sense as they delivered another shipment in the last 6 days. Then the contractor makes a hole in the tank to fix it. And we lose our oil, they put a full tank into a smaller tank having lost all of the oil???? Then I receive a bill for $950.00 for repairs? No form of what I'm being charged for, just a note sent by text. I'd still like a response from Meenan, as this is not fair for someone who has been with them since the 1980's. I've been waiting to talk to a service supervisor three days now after someone was supposed to call 24 to 48 hours. They have a bully system that when you're not happy and say you're thinking about leaving they want to put your account on hold if you say you are leaving, they want to charge you an early termination fee , a tech showed up at my brothers house who has a contract with them never ever asked or was told that the part was not covered a week later he got a bill of $500 for a transformer if the supervisor does not call what kind of business are they running, are they slowly robbing the old people? read more

Had meenan do an oil delivery. Guy shows up hops out walks over, goes back to his truck, next thing I see is him pulling hose out ok cool stop worrying about oil go on about my day. Half hour or so goes by and meenan is calling me. Guy states "we can't deliver oil to you the oil fill is to close to your house it's not safe, my driver said he tryed to get ahold of you but Noone answered!" First off doorbell goes to my phone along with two other places in the house I got a house full of people and you think we wouldn't answer. So I go to my cameras and watch as these yahoos never once knock call or ring the bell but instead pulled two feet of hose claimed he couldn't fill it and left all while on his phone please do yourself a favor and hire men to fill your oil not these lazy people that claim it's unsafe when infact this same driver has filled my tank many times before. I have the actions of this delivery recorded the supervisor called and lied through his teeth as well. F- gentlemen do better. read more

Sorry Meenan, First of all, my Daughter loves your phone customer service but, in her last oil delivery and tune-up, a problem was discovered. The delivery was not completed because of an issue with a slight clog in the "whistle" valve of the oil input that prevented a complete fill. The driver said there was a problem, suggested nothing to try and fix it, and drove away without completing the delivery. This was fixed IN 10 MINUTES by myself with a Google search and a pipe wrench!!! Then, in the regular tune-up, the tech spent OVER 2 HOURS, while also making personal phone calls, only to DISCONNECT the electrics to the heater and declaring it "unsafe" WITH NO CONVERSATION WITH ME until AFTER it was done and saying that a new heater was required (nice try for a sales job). Only after push-back from me did he reconnect it, REPAIR the small leak that he noted as the "unsafe" issue and finally left. This was a totally ham-handed way of trying to sell a new unit and the tech was unprofessional and rude. After calling another company, an inspection was made and although not immediately needed, she did get a NEW Heater/Air assembly installed. After this, my Daughter called to get her regular oil delivery done but was denied by Meenan because of the prior issue. Obviously, she cancelled her contract with Meenan and contacted another company for her oil and service to be done. I know service techs are taught to try and sell new equipment in the visits, but the way this was handled left a completely sour taste in my mouth for this company. read more

They let my tank run dry AGAIN! New years Day '18 When I called in the morning they promised me an emergency 10 gallon delivery. Between 6pm 9pm later same calendar day. Tenant was standing buy looking for them, i was waiting for their call in case they needed access, there is a lock box w code on the front door. 3 ways to access the unit to prime the pump and restart it. I was called by a dispatcher at about 8:30 PM " driver was there, knocked on vestibule door no one answered, he has already left, I will send him back" At about 11:20 Pm 1/1/18 I call again. On hold until 11:45. They offer a service stop between 5-8 AM on the 2nd.I demand a service manager speak to me. 15 minute wait, then a joker w a bad attitude says he has no idea what has happened and I should be patient. I went ro Sunoco service station and purchased diesel oil at $3.36 dumped ten gallons into carry tanks and dumped into my tank so residents and pipes would not freeze. Had to go to the heater and prime it. Oil smell in my car, on my boots, on my jacket, glove and hands. I called this morning to close all of my accounts. Was on hold again for about 25 minutes. Then after listening to their lame hold music and announcements all that time, the call transfers, I hear a ringing sound ring, ring, then, disconnected. Meenan costs me MORE than what other providers charge. I used them because I thought a bigger company would be more RELIABLE and PROFESSIONAL. I have beed with them for about twenty years. Next call, Oil Patch, then Halligan. I am located in Philadelphia and was "served" by their Upper Darby PA depot on Lansdowne Ave. I feel angry and abused by Meenan. Maybe they should change their name to Mean-Man. I see that the ratings for them are quite low. Makes sense to me. Their performance so far this year does not deserve the one star which is the minimum rating here on YELP. YELP should offer a zero star rating so that operators like MEANan can be properly rated. We have been asking for oil for 5 days - every imaginable obstacle has been created as to why they can't come! 24 hour phone service was great, we were able to schedule an appointment for the very next day (AC service in August - emergency!!). Techs were courteous and respectful. It did take multiple visits to get to the bottom of the problem with our unit, but I think that was just the complexity of the situation, not any lacking on Meenan's part. They try to lock you in with service contracts, tank insurance, and automatic delivery but don't be afraid to switch. I really question the recent favorable reviews. I usually don't review companies but I had the absolute worst experience ever and really needed to share. My husband and I were first time home owners and recently had a newborn when we realized our oil heat wasn't working. We had a service contract with meenan and was informed it was unable to be fixed so we were referred to their sales department who sold us 5 mini splits for Heat and AC. We spent almost $17,000 on these units and we still were unable to get warm!! The units were actually blowing freezing cold air out while on heat mode. When we informed Michael McBride who sold us the units that they were not working he told us that the units were not supposed to be working in cold weather or in the snow although we were previously told they would work up to -5. I kept asking why he sold us these as heating units If they wouldn't be working in the cold. He was extremely dismissive to all of our concerns/ issues. We had many many phone calls escalating to Supervisers and they finally sent back out the installers. At that point we found out they hired a third party contractor to install our units and it appeared Meenan did not want to send their own service people and only wanted us to deal with this third party contractor they used for our job. We kept saying that we hired them not this other company etc. At one point this third party contractor came back to troubleshoot what was going on and when we asked him how he was doing he said he had a slight cold and was feeling under the weather. This was in the HEIGHT of Covid (omicron) so I asked him not to come inside (we had a newborn) and called Meenans main line. They informed us no one else would come and we had to use this one guy. This guy wasn't even able to fix the problems and weeks went by with more and more calls and frustrations. Eventually I was put in contact with a supervisor David Cooperman and meenan sent their own service staff to look at the problem. They determined it was a issue with the unit not the installation and they needed Fujitsu to come out and evaluate the problem. About 2 weeks later (and lots of sleepless nights due to the cold) Fujitsu came out and confirmed the unit was broken and needed to be replaced. Meenan then wanted us to wait for them to process the warranty before replacing the unit which they had no timeline for and said it could take MONTHS!! After several more calls to supervisors they agreed to replace the units and they now work. It had been 7.5 weeks from the date of installation until the broken unit was replaced. I asked for money back and they acted like they did everything right and didn't understand where I was coming from. At no point during this entire process did they say sorry. The entire process they made us feel like we were being difficult and picky. Needless to say this is still ongoing. . We are very disappointed. We chose a large company like meenan to stand behind their installation and do the right thing. If they installed a broken unit they should have come out the very next day to replace it. The process should not have taken 7.5 weeks of frustration. read more

Meenan Oil's heating oil prices are very high. They wanted to sell me Heating Oil #2 for $3.75/gallon. I was able to purchase the same product from another company for $2.69/gallon, without any contract. Their prices last winter were also very high. The customer service people at Meenan are very aggressive. I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

We recently bought a house with oil heat. The previous owners had a contract with Meenan which included service. We decided to go with another company. We had someone come out to look at the system. The whole thing was supposed to have been serviced etc for which the previous owners had given us the documentation. The man from the other company was here for 4hrs cleaning and servicing our heater and said it obviously hasn't been done for a while. He showed my husband what he was seeing. I dont know what Meenan was doing when they came to "service" the heater but they charged the previous owners for stuff that clearly wasnt done. read more

We have been customers since mid 1990's. In the past few years their oil prices are always consistently higher then other full service companies. The difference is normally between 25-35 %. We have a service contract with them as well. We have called a few times over the past couple of years and consistently their reason is that they provide 24/7 service. Yet, the other full service companies have similar emergency service. They seem to like to talk bad about their competitors. We have decided since the last oil delivery this will be the last with them. It is time to move on. read more

Meenan Oil Company is a crooked and dishonest company. I signed up a couple of years ago with them because the salesperson on the phone told me a lower price for oil per gallon. As soon as I signed the contract they charged me 22 percent more compared to what I was promised. When I called them up to find out why, they said we control the price and they warned me that if I cancel, there would be a $300 cancellation fee. I had their service for a year. I gave 4 stars because they provide good service and starting price. They always answer the phone in a reasonable amount of time, they are very friendly on the phone, they keep the oil deliveries coming, and if there's a problem, they send someone very quickly. My heat wasn't working, so I called 4:30a in the morning, and they sent someone at 10:30a that morning. The big con is that, that renewal will be much higher than the first year, so make sure to price shop before negotiating, and never accept their first offer. I talked them down 3 times. read more

Two stars for excellent customer service. Unfortunately oil is just wayyyy tooooo expensive and going up. On their gold budget plan, but they don't really explain how at the end of the year/contract, you still have to pay the difference no matter how much $ you pay every month of the year...could add up to be thousands and they want it asap and pressure you into signing another contract for an even bigger pay out next year. No thanks! We're done with oil and converting to natural gas. Its costly, but it would be double if we stay with this oil period. Got to do what you got to do. read more

I'm adding toy review. Meenan finally delivered oil and my heat came back on Saturday afternoon. They charged me 3.749/gallon. Unbelievable! My daughter just had oil delivered, and was charged $2.36/gallon by another company. Meenan is a rip off. I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

I wish I could give them 0 stars because giving them 1 is even bringing their rating up. I spent 3 years with Meenan and was roped into a service package (so not only was I paying for oil, I was also paying an extra $300 a year to have the "privilege" to have somebody come every year and tell me how outdated my system is and how I'll be lucky if I get through this winter). For anyone who isn't business savvy, here's how you get hosed: You "lock in" to an oil rate per gallon over the next year that is likely 25 to 50 cents higher than what you should be paying for heating oil. You have to have an auto-delivery set up that also comes with a "service package" which is absurdly overpriced. Your service package serves more as Meenan charging you for an estimate. Follow me: They send out a tech once a year or they're on call if you have a service package. Whether your furnace is 5 years old or 50 (like mine is) this tech which is basically a salesperson in disguise will poke around a little and tell you that you need something new or in my case, a new furnace for 2 years in a row. This prompts salesmen to call you non-stop to tell you that you need a new oil furnace and that you're looking at thousands upon thousands of dollars to replace it. Or you can have a non-interested company come out and service your aging but still 67% efficient furnace for $200 and have it run for two more years. Anyway, this service package is Meenan's hedge against rising oil prices. They charge you $300 and if oil goes up, they have to use some of that to offset their costs because they guaranteed you a rate for a year, if oil goes down, they're gaining extra revenue. After I found out that in fact, I did need a new furnace this year, I called Meenan to put my oil deliveries on hold while I evaluated my options. Meenan took this as me cancelling my service and sent out an invoice for $399 because I did not honor a year long contract with them. Understood. However in their contract is states that they will cancel me (no charge to me) for delaying or postponing my oil deliveries. I called Meenan after I received a cookie cutter letter from the GM Chris Boyce. The letter said to please call him and he would like to hear why I am leaving and see what he could do to better serve customers. I tried multiple times, was passed around to the same three people for about a week and none of them would let me leave a message for the GM, nobody would connect me to him and nobody would give me a clear explanation as to when I actually canceled my service. I am supposed to receive a confirmation number for cancelling. It's been a month since I (didn't) cancel my service and still no confirmation number. It's been 6 long, painful years with Meenan Oil and I am oh so happy to never have to deal with them again. I chose them to install a furnace six years ago and they gave me a 5 year free service contract. 5 long years of horrible service, fighting charges every year when they charge me for the free service they promised. 5 long years of wrong addresses, incorrect bills, service reps who would rather than fight you than help you (Kathy, I'm looking at you). If you are stuck in Meenan Hell (the 8th ring), discontinue service immediately and switch to any number of other good local, family providers. Send certified letters to Barry Radcliffe (the general manager) weekly until they acknowledge your problems. You too can make the escape, and will be happier for it. read more

Low level customer service. Have two Meenan accounts. Every month, I need to call and ask them to deliver oil and argue with them that I am on the last drops. This month I did not call and we ran out. When we called to tell that we ran out as the oil boiler has stopped they made my wife attempt to reset and re-start. They told us their system is smart and we should have 8 gallons left. after a few tries they were convinced that I ran out and they sent an emergency service which only added a few gallons. When asked to speak with a supervisor trying to explain their system prediction is incorrect, the supervisor was not available. after 24 hours I am still waiting to speak with a supervisor. I will change providers as soon as the contract runs out. read more

Meenan is terrible. They are the worst company that I've ever had to deal with for anything. They are inept. And their oil is overpriced. I had a one year agreement that my oil would never rise above a certain price. Without fail, every single time oil was delivered they billed me for more than they should have. I had to run though hoops every month to get them to correct their mistakes. On at least one occasion they made me send them a copy of my contract to prove our agreement because they had lost theirs. The customer service representatives are terrible. Nobody can fix anything and I'd constantly be transfered to endless series of people and have to explain my compaint to each one. It was infuriating. I was so happy when our contract expired and I was free to purchase oil elsewhere. But my problems with Meenan didn't end there. They contininued to deliver oil to my home and billing me even though we had no contract. I called and raised hell and eventually resolved the billing issue. At least I got free oil out of it. That was two years ago and Meenan still cold calls me constantly trying to get me come back. Get out of my life Meenan! read more

Sold us heater that didn't work. Their price for oil and service is higher than the other companies. Sales and service are less than honest and their staff are harsh and less than competent. They're other cos. they bought & own use 'original' names so customer ends up dealing with MEENAN anyway. Called three other local companies and Meenan was most expensive.
