Overall a mixed bag. They did a great job packing our truck but their furniture disassembly and packing had some issues. 1. Packed liquids from the kitchen (sauces, etc) after being instructed not to. Some of these leaked during the move. 2. We had Sloane move us out of our condo, store our belongings and then set up our new townhouse. The move out was great. The team handled our very large couches without an issue and everything went to the storage center with ease. The issues came about when they moved us into our townhouse. It seemed as if they wanted to get out as soon as they could. I've taken a week to calm down before writing this so I'm being a little gracious. The reason is the manager came to make all the wrongs right. 1. Damaged our brand new carpet. It is a low cut and they snagged it. 2. Complained that they had to bring our couch and chair to the second floor. Called my husband a liar because they couldn't find the electric components that went with the couch and chair. They stated that he took it but in reality they put it in my laundry basket. Never looked just accused. They left the couch in pieces not properly reassembled. 3. My bedframe has slats and they couldn't find the screws and left it with 3 screws. I found the screws today wrapped around my laundry dryer rack. 4. Chipped my dining room buffet. Required me to sign off on the work they did and when I refused because they left it such a mess they grumbled at us. I called Sloane stating that I wouldn't sign and pay until the items were fixed. As stated above the manager came in to fix everything and took a picture of the buffet. He didn't do anything about that but everything else was ok. read more

We used Sloane to move our household items from an apartment and then about a month later from storage to our new home. Each time, we had a 4 man crew. They were adequate, and nothing was destroyed, but several pieces were dinged, scraped and scratched. A couple of times, we specifically asked for pieces to be wrapped and were told they would be, but we saw in the truck that they were not. We would not use Sloane again. read more

It's been a little over a year since I moved, now. I'm ashamed I took so long to write this review, cos quite simply, these guys took one of the most stressful, annoying things someone can go through-- getting every last ounce of their personal belongings from somewhere they've lived forever into a strange new place-- and made it as effortless for me as possible. I lived in my old, cramped apartment for over 16 years. I have a costuming business and work from home, so most of my apartment was full of very strange items like dress forms and sewing machines and fabric and weird tools and art supplies and client works in progress, and I was panicked about packing it all. To make things worse, I was inheriting a bunch of furniture that was across the city-- some of it antiques-- that also needed to be collected and moved. I was very nervous about having someone else go through all my stuff, but the guys from Sloane came in like heroes, and did most of my packing. They were so quick and efficient, I left a thermos of tea in the kitchen for ten minutes, and came back to find it packed! (I found it the following week, quite safe, still full.) The boxes they use are incredibly sturdy, and they're very, very good with packing materials. They took two short days to finish packing my mountains of stuff, and two days to get it all into my new, much larger place. They were fast, careful, asked all the right questions, put everything where I needed it, and were actually a LOT of fun to work with. They were so, so kind. And in the whole move, precisely ONE thing got lost: a single screw from my pot rack. Nothing else lost, nothing broken. Special shout-out to the head of the team, Jose, who put up with my new neighbour, whom we discovered to be a horrible racist. (He's still a jerk, and I'm still sorry, Jose.) Jose was calm, professional, and cool, even though the rest of us wanted to scream. Jose was also an enormous comfort when I was staring in horror at all my accumulated worldly goods and wondering if I'd ever get everything settled. I love you, man! In short, I can't possibly recommend these guys enough. I hope I don't have to move again for a long, long time, but if I do, there's no one else I'll call. read more

Could not have been happier about my experience with Sloane! They picked up furniture from my parents house in DC and delivered it all to my new apartment in Brooklyn, NY. They called a day in advance to discuss what was best for my schedule to deliver everything, and then even called again an hour before to make sure i was ready to have everything brought in. I suggest you find another moving company! They "lost" boxes of my belongings! When I called them about this issue they would not take any fault. Blamed other people outside of the company. Did not apologize for my lost boxes and didn't offer any compensation. They also cant follow simple instructions on where you want them to meet you 1st (if you need multiple locations of delivery) Also towards the end of the movers moving my belongings into my new place they didn't want to follow directions to what room I wanted the stuff and just started dumping my belongings where ever they felt like. To consider a twenty mi transfer of my belongings , quality stuff, to a 3 rd floor walk up and all the guys had their legs burning. I am in my fifties and gave well over twenty tips for each one. We have now used Sloane twice to move in and out of homes, and to store our belongings . I can not be more positive about our experience. The movers were friendly and efficient, our furniture was wrapped and stored so well and arrived in perfect shape! They even disassembled and reassembled some very complicated pieces! And our new home was kept in pristine shape during the move in as they covered all the floors and banisters and were very careful ! They were also very reasonable with their prices ( I had gotten quotes from 4 different companies prior to selecting them this time.) I cant recommend them more highly! They really pad the bill coming and going. The move started in the same small town (Elkins Park) as the company, and they charged me 40 minutes worth of driving to go down the street to start the job. And then another 40 minute charge to drive 13 minutes away back to their port. Huge rip off. I don't plan on using them again. Too many other good options in the Philly area. read more

We chose Sloane over Lenora's based on reviews we read on the Internet... and we're glad we did! Sloane sent us two guys (and I regret that I don't remember their names, though I think maybe Paul and Mark?) who did a fantastic job moving our loft apartment furniture over 2 hours away to Washington, DC. They came, they conquered, and they were even good-spirited and fun throughout the whole thing. Sloane was well worth the extra hundred or so over Lenora's... and our move even ended up being less than the estimate. I would whole-heartedly recommend Sloane to everyone. Oh, they even called to alert us that they accidentally left a suitcase of ours on their truck. They held it at the office until we came to pick it up. It was very nice of them! read more

My family used Sloane for a local move this past weekend. I can't comment on the price because we were overwhelmed by the process of selling one house and buying another, so we didn't shop around. Our experience, though, on moving day was very positive. The crew of four guys was friendly and hardworking. Most of them had worked for the company for more than 10 years and were very skilled. Items that we had struggled to get into the house were no problem for them on the way out. I was pleased that the guys had good communication skills, which is actually unusual in contractors; they made sure they understood what I wanted and they did it! I really feel that the $1000 I paid them was money well spent. I should mention that my wife and I packed our own boxes. The last time we used movers (a different company) my employer was paying for it and we had the movers do the packing. That was kind of a bad experience, but now I believe that if you really care about something, you should pack it yourself. read more

Very pleased with the move with Sloane! I was calling around for a few quotes, and these guys were very prompt in their response, and ended up being the best option for the money. On moving day they showed up on time and immediately got to work! I NEVER write reviews for anything, but Sloane has changed all that. Bill the estimator was nice. Even Pat the owner seemed ok. His guys did the pack-up and the move. The move itself was mainly uneventful and Pat's guys showed up on time. Unfortunately, my mom's glass table top was damaged in the move. Pictures were taken and I was assured that Pat would call me. Nothing. So I called him. No response. I got an estimate to replace the top and wrote him a letter. No response. I called again and spoke to his secretary. No response from Pat. Some art work was also damaged due to obvious poor packing. These people do not stand behind their work!!! If everything goes well it's all good. But any issues with your move and your SOL! STAY AWAY!! read more

I've moved lots of times in last 5 years and always used professional movers for the moves, but this was the worst experience by FAR. They showed up 30+mins late every day; the truck driver would disappear for hours each day of a 3 day move, would get huffy if you called him on it; several furniture pieces damaged and NO return calls from their owner Pat; and they need some serious unpacking training. Their unpacking was a time consuming disaster to undo. Definitely use others and NOT these guys. Use Hopkins and Sons, Mambo Movers, Superior Moving and Storage. Use any of them and DO NOT use Sloane unless you want an argumentative staff that spends a lot of time chatting, disappears while you're paying them, and doesn't get the job done right. Setting up with Sloane went easily. Needing a mover I signed right up. This phone call marked the end of any ease to the process. The day of the move, they showed up early and got started. As I stood next to my car, packing up odds and ends, I noticed that one of the movers dropped a piece of furniture and the leg on that piece of furniture cracked in half. Other than that, though, the furniture got packed up quickly and safely. I did consider that movers aren't perfect, so while the leg cracked on one piece I was happy everything else arrived fine. But then things just went downhill. After packing up and prior to leaving for the new apartment they asked me for directions--an odd question considering I had given them the address, but I tried my best to explain the rather confusing directions. Then they left. As someone was already waiting for them, I new that I needn't rush and left about ten minutes after them. Surprisingly, I arrived at the new apartment twenty minutes before them! When I finally saw their truck pull into the apartment complex I rushed to the apartment and began getting ready. And then...nothing! Still no Sloane! I went back outside and here they had started unloading at the wrong building! I could not understand it, since they claimed to know the complex so well and I had stressed the fact that they should go to my specific building. So they had to pack up the truck again and drive to my building and unpack again. No apology though, instead they acted like I somehow mislead them! Anyway, they unpacked and now came the bill. The one mover hands me a handwritten bill which includes billing for the time spent lost in the drive over (or whatever took them so long), as well as the time in which they unloaded at the wrong building, and also a generous roundup to the next hour with regard to travel time (travel time from Sloane to starting point and then from end point back to Sloane). I stood there, stunned. I had to pay for their mistakes?? I wrote the check and he left. I did call to complain and got refunded a small amount, which I appreciated. I would shop around before settling on Sloane. Again, easy to set up and book, but if their movers keep up like this it truly will not be worth it. read more

We made the mistake of allowing Sloane Moving and Storage to move us and to pack about 10% of our belongings that we had not packed. Sloane totally defies the principle of conservation of matter! What had been 10% of our belongings was so padded by Sloane's movers that it became 80% of our boxes! Sloane's slogan "We baby your furniture" actually means that they place one of two small items into a 4 ft by 4 ft loosely taped, flimsy carton, and then shove dozens and dozens and dozens of sheets of wrapping paper in order to fill their huge, unwieldy and badly-smelling carton. Needless to say, because of Sloane's packing, it was very difficult to find our belongings! Since we have to pay for trash removal in our new home, it took nearly 3 months to dole out all of their unnecessary, voluminous wads of wrapping paper into our weekly trash without incurring charges for bulk pick-ups. For some bizarre reason, Sloane packed us by combining dirty items such as toilet plungers or trash cans full of garbage (obviously not meant to be packed) with clean clothing. We had to wash or dry-clean every single article of clothing. In their defense, we thought they were friendly, and we didn't blame them for their truck breaking down on the turnpike with a flat tire. There was very little damage to the furniture and our belongings. What did annoy us was that the morning after our move, we got a call from the man in charge of the move telling us that the owner wanted an additional $350 from us since he made a mistake in his calculations. We found this demand for more money the day after the move completely unprofessional. Sloane made everything more difficult, and we would advise people to avoid using them. At the very least, if you do use them, then make sure you pack all of your belongings yourself, and don't pay them to pack your stuff for you. read more

They showed up late. It was a fine move. The supervisor was a great guy. Helps troubled youth kids after school for basketball. Unfortunately on this day (last week in February 2019) he had to leave after the truck was loaded. We were on a tight budget and they were only being paid til a certain time. I stayed behind at the old place to pack up a few more items. I arrived at the new place and they should have been there already. We had to call them and they claimed they were lost. They went all the way South instead of north on Rt. 1. When they finally showed up, some of the crew smelled like marijuana. No wonder they were "lost" they were busy messing around. And at the end of it they had lost all the hardware to the desk units. I am pretty sure this was a newer group of guys as the previous reviews have been good. read more

Connor worked with us so that we were able to move out of our old home and store our items until we could move into our new place. We just moved my mother from Phila. to New Hampshire. This was a complicated move that required packing and making 3 separate stops in 3 different states. The crew from Sloane's was exceptional. They were on time and handled my mothers belongings with tender care. Each of the three stops was on time and handled professionally and with a level of compassion that far exceeded our expectations.
