This is my first time that I need to use a moving company. Hughes relocating company came highly recommended by a friend. So I called them. The man I talked to complaints about all the requirements that I had to follow moving from one apartment to another. I also mentioned that I was on a tight budget. He seemed willing to work with me at first. A date was set for the company to walk through my apartment so they could figure out how much the move would cost. No one showed up, so I called the office. I was told that multiple calls were made to let me know that the appointment was canceled and they all went to my voicemail. He also claimed he was too sick to come out...yet I thoroughly checked my cell phone and there were no phone calls or voicemails from Hughes relocating company. If the man was too sick to come out why was he able to come into work at the office?? I did see an email and it said that they would be coming today. To his credit he did refer me to three other movers. If this company didn't want me as a customer, they should've just said so straightforward instead of coming up with several implausible stories. Horrendous. Booked them a month out for their services. Got the name of the individual who set up our reservation at the time. Never had a follow-up call or email to confirm as the date got closer so I got a little nervous. When I called two days prior, they said they never had us booked. If you get stuck with a mover like Hughes Relocation Services please let me warn you: The person who comes to give you quote disappears after you sign on. (In my case, John Platek). You are then waiting to hear from the national corporation, in my case United. United will hire a driver, and give the driver some money to use at their discretion, which means they will hire the cheapest people they can find to unload your move. There's no one to contact at United. Then the driver will pressure you to sign papers saying they delivered everything, in my case the papers were left blank because the driver didn't have time to bother writing the inventory. I didn't sign the papers, he didn't care. Hughes will not help in any way if there is a problem, you are on your own with the driver, who has a lot of concerns that have nothing to do with you, his schedule, his time, all that matters. There is an insurance policy that is pretty vague, especially about the deadlines for making a claim. I have been asking for a week when is the deadline for a claim about my move only to be put off with Charlotte telling me to check my papers (I have some of my papers, and it turns out I have someone else's papers). But I don't have any papers that give me the date. Guess what it turns out that the date is tomorrow, and I have no way to get the most expensive items uncrated to see if they are damaged. It was really abusive treatment. I don't know that anyone is better, its a racket moving people these days. Good luck. read more

I just moved my things to their storage yesterday. It was a lot to pack and move. They showed up on time. All of the workmen where so nice, courteous, polite, and hard working. The name of my team was PEAK SEASON WARRIOR. The gentleman on the team were Greg Grimshaw, Styfeere P. William Phim, William Green and the senior crew leader Jerry Pattinson. I've moved many times (local and cross-country) and I can't say enough about how great this company has been so far. Starting with our move coordinator Vicky and then today the driver Mike showed up (Professional, super sharp, organized). Total of 8 people (plus two others to pack tvs and a huge and heavy dining room mirror, etc). They were all very careful with our things and systematic. It was a tightly-run ship. For reference, we are moving 19k lbs from Villanova (5BR+ slightly under 5000 sq. Ft. House with lots of patio furniture, etc). to San Diego. They arrived at 8 (on time) and left by 230 and our Belongings took up 75% of the truck. They then went to our storage unit with no issues. These guys were hard workers and efficient and they knew what they were doing. All of them. I'm a picky person (aka high maintenance) and just as likely to write a negative review when disappointed so I am not easily impressed. That being said, I felt compelled to write this review straight away. Truly impressed and thankful. The driver was able to give us a precise delivery date so I rearranged some travel plans so I wouldn't be stuck in San Diego for days with two little kids in a hotel. This company was top-notch. We met with multiple move companies and ultimately went with United and Hughes is the local company. They brought the huge truck to our street with no problems. Hughes Relocation Services - Movers Near Me - Lansdale, Pennsylvania

Moving to Pennsylvania to Utah we had Hughes store our belongings until we determined a delivery location. We began this move in mid-April. End of May, we requested our belongings be delivered. They then notified us of an 8 week delay due to driver and truck shortages. Following that timeline, we paid the remainder of our bid per contract, so that Hughes would pick up our stuff from storage and begin the delivery process to us. When we called to confirm the pick up, Hughes stated they didn't even have a truck or driver assigned to our move! If there is a labor and truck shortage, do not acquire or establish more business if you have work you owe a client! All this to say, I can't even speak to the state of my belongings because I have yet to know when I will see them next. I have 4 children, one of which is an infant, and at the high cost of goods these days, the price of this move climbs ever higher than the Hughes moving quote, as I'm left to repurchase the things we need now, things I already own and which sit in storage across the country. A nightmare! I've never used a worse company for anything. They packed and moved my things. So much was destroyed because of their incompetence including my kitchen chairs, a fire pit, and an oil painting that was priceless to me! They didn't use the right type of paper to wrap the oil painting - they just used regular craft paper. The art restorer I went to thought they were shameful to use that paper. He couldn't restore the painting. It was a total lose. The worst part about this experience was dealing with their insurance agent. He told me to save everything that was destroyed so it could be inspected. I did. But he never came to inspect anything. Then he suggested that I packed that painting! I hate when people don't take responsibility for their mistakes. But this company's behavior was far worse than that - they blamed me, the injured party, for their mistake. This felt violating and kept me up a night. Beware. Hughes relocation services is the worst company I have ever dealt with for anything. Gush alert here! I cannot thank Hughes or recommend them enough!!! From the first call, they were so responsive. My specialist Vicky was extremely thorough and attentive throughout the beginning stages of packing, packing, stressing and more packing. I moved myself and my three cats from Philly to New Orleans and was FREAKED OUT by the whole endeavor. The morning of my move, the crew that packed the truck were amazing - friendly, efficient, careful and just all around wonderful. I forgot something on the truck I meant to take with me in the car. I called Vicky and got in touch with the driver (Mike I believe) and he pulled over so I could meet him and retrieve a bag of shoes!!!! When the truck arrived in New Orleans, it was rainy and cold and miserable. The truck couldn't fit in the storage lot so the guys just unloaded on the street and rolled things in. I felt so bad but Dave and his AMAZING crew just took it in stride and got the job done in an hour and a half. They also were friendly and personable and very respectful of the things I needed loaded last or wanted to take home with me. For such a huge life move for me, Hughes made it virtually stress-free on that end. I CANNOT recommend them enough for your moving needs. So much so that my Dad is now using them for his move!!!! We've used national moving companies for 8 prior moves. Hughes United Van Lines handled our latest out of state move to perfection. Kyle and his crew did an amazing job. All the furniture was wrapped and mats were laid down to protect the floors. Great office support from Michelle who checked with me during the move to insure things were going well. Were very shoddy on their inventory (ergo once the salesman came, no more attention was given to the items). Then packers/movers themselves were decent, but not very detail oriented as they lost a LOT of our stuff. Now they are claiming "everything shipped, was delivered", which doesn't help us any because obviously the items got lost in packing or loading, before shipping. DO NOT TRUST THEY WILL HELP YOU WITH A CLAIM! And United obviously doesn't care about what happens at the packing or loading/unloading phase, they just care about the truck. And Hughes falls back to United, when things go wrong. read more

From my first phone call to get an estimate of my move to the final phone call after my move was finished, I was treated in a very friendly and courteous manner. The staff was wonderful and my coordinator went above and beyond what you would expect. The estimate was completed quickly. I was able to make changes as to what I would or would not take up until 5 days before the move. I packed most items but left the kitchen and artwork for the packers to do. They arrived at the time I was told and did a great job. They protected my floors while working and packed everything very carefully. The next day my items were loaded unto the van. The men who loaded everything were so careful in wrapping and moving the furniture out of the house. They also protected the floors. The van driver told me when he would be delivering my things. When the van arrived they put protection on all the floors and wrapped entry doors inside and out. They put everything exactly where I wanted. Not one item suffered any damage. I honestly can't say enough nice things about this company. I highly recommend Hughes. The people who work there really care about their jobs and go the extra mile. Fantastic company! read more

I'd used Hughes for a couple of my moves with good results, so I recommended them to my mother for her move. They exceeded all of our expectations. Bill did our estimate and was right on target. Joy, our move coordinator, kept us well-informed, and was cheerful and helpful even when we had to change our move date at the last minute. Mike and Shane did the packing, then returned the next day for the move. They were friendly, professional, and respectful of us, mom's house, and her belongings. This company quoted me a 4-5 hour move after coming to my home to see our stuff. The movers showed up at 11AM and folded blankets for 45 minutes on the clock...they did not leave our new home until 11:30PM. They left the job unfinished. They were understaffed. They have no trouble charging you for a 12 hour move. In fact, they charge you an extra 15% "just in case" they work over. Total bait and switch. Complete rip off and shameful. They also damaged my walls, floor and new appliance. They refuse to take any ownership of the situation. This may be the worst experience I have ever had with a service provider. My advice: go anywhere else. read more

We needed to move a shipment of goods from Pennsylvania to California, following a death in the family. It was a difficult time & we had a short but ideal window of time to organize logistics - deal with the estate, pack up stuff, ship it, and receive delivery. It was the busy holiday season, stormy weather, a coast- to- coast move, and there was every opportunity for stumbles and delays. But under Hughes, problems never materialized. I had contacted three movers, and Hughes was the first to respond - within 24 hours after I contacted them. Hughes got on it immediately & organized the move expeditiously, efficiently and within budget. Communication was excellent, including - and especially- on moving day. I was never alone with this move. Hughes not only provided excellent support during a difficult time, but the level of professionalism was incredible. The move was well-orchestrated, the stuff was treated gently and respectfully both in PA and CA, and everyone took their job very seriously. The shipment arrived when promised, and in excellent shape despite the cross-country trek. Hughes is tops if you are looking for caring movers. Confirmed an interstate house move from PA to MA with Hughes five weeks ahead of time. 2 weeks later and less than 3 weeks before the interstate move, we got a call that Hughes was no longer available. Here is the explanation they gave us: "I'm sorry this happened. I know this is a huge inconvenience. At the time we made the appointment we had availability. The date was just closed out on Monday at 5:02pm. This time of year we always explain at the time we are scheduling the appointment that days are booking up fast and there's a possibility this could happen. I apologize for the problem this has caused for you." One of the most unprofessional transactions I have ever encountered. Unbelievable. read more

I chose Hughes because of the reviews they received. Bad move (pun intended). They picked up my things from my home in Narberth, PA on July 30th. I was given a range of August 6th through August 13th for things to arrive in Santa Cruz, California. I wanted to drive cross country because it is so expensive to ship a car (much less two cars) but I didn't have time since I needed to be there on the 6th just in case the stuff arrived. Didn't arrive on the 6th. Or 7th, 8th, 9th, or 10th. On the 10th I got a call saying that they "might" not make my window. I assumed that meant they wouldn't make the window, or why call? After much hassle I finally got a new date -- the 16th. I'm now living in an empty house, sleeping on a borrowed camping cot with kids in low end sleeping bags on the floor, having to eat out every meal, and with only one small suitcase each. Then on the 13th I'm told not by Hughes by by the United Customer Service Rep (and I use that term loosely) no, not the 16th, more like the 18th. Then I'm told the truck has only just left Pennsylvania and has broken down at a truck stop. I have no idea if my things are even safe, and they have no idea when my things will arrive at this point. No idea. I call Hughes, I call United, no one knows anything. My requests to speak to a manager go unanswered. I'm told I am eligible for the $100/day delay claim. Oh yay, I tell them, but in this area $100/day buys you a half a hotel room. If you can get one. And no one even apologizes or seems to think it is a big deal that I'm going through this. Apparently they don't think twice about lying and giving away your things to some random driver whose truck doesn't even work. At this point I don't know when or if I'll ever get my things. I would never again use Hughes or United Van Lines. BUYER BEWARE. read more

This move was a total disaster! The boxed items had very little breakage - no complaints there. However, a number of pieces of antique furniture and accessories were not just damaged but actually smashed! Honestly, it looked as though they had dashed the items against a brick wall. This was clearly Hughes' fault; the United agent that picked up my goods in Philadelphia and brought them to Minnesota documented the damage at the time he picked up the goods at the Hughes warehouse. Furthermore, he said that the Hughes folks at the warehouse were very cavalier about all the damage; couldn't have cared less! I filed a damage claim with United; they sent out a local furniture restoration company that documented the damage; however, they have refused to reimburse the worst damage, even though THEIR OWN INVENTORY DESCRIPTION SHOWED NO DAMAGE prior to the move!!! I have yet to receive an explanation for that; in fact, they have not responded to my correspondence at all. I truly hope that the moving consultant who recommended them to me never uses them again.
