These guys will charge you for everything, possibly the air you breathe. They are quite expensive to begin with, but for me the real kicker is that they charge for gas driving to your home. Now, I'm self-employed, in business for myself for over 40 years, and I wasn't born yesterday. Most everyone in business itemizes deductions on their businesss tax returns. I'd be very surprised/shocked if they don't deduct vehicle expenses, including fuel, repairs, leases etc. So I find it absolutely over the top that they tack on gas expenses incurred as part of doing regular business. talk about "nickel & diming". NEG installed my generator year ago and have had an annual contract ever since. I find them reliable and available in the event there is an issue. A couple years back during a storm the generator did not fire when the power went out. I called customer service, and my call was answered quickly. I highly recommend Northeast Generator for any generator needs. I recently had a Briggs & Stratton 20KW standby generator installed. I bid the job out to multiple companies and ended up going with NE for a number of reasons: 1) offered multiple brands and are equipped to perform warranty service for all of them. 2) competitive pricing. 3) very good communication during bidding process. 4) capable of handling the entire project from pulling permits (including main building permit) supplying generator, installation, coordinating all inspections, and obtaining sing-offs. The install went very smoothly and I was up and running as scheduled. About six years ago we purchased a generator and had it installed by this company. Fast forward to today and we are selling home only to find out there is still a " open permit" on property for generator. I have called multiple times to no avail & asked for GM who I was told would call back...but never did . Hey Lily. Please tell your boss the following. I received your estimate of almost $1000 to replace the starter, solenoid and contactor. I just had another company come over here and turns out ... the generator is working fine. The button inside was on "off." It turned over four times. I saw the contactor in action working myself. All it needs is a tuneup. I am beyond shocked that I discovered this. Whoever came to inspect my generator needs to go back to school or you need to stop trying to rip people off. Before I found Northeast Generator, my previous service provider was a disaster. We had problems they couldn't solve and the very expensive full size unit we installed after Hurricane Sandy never worked. I found Northeast Generator online, they sent someone knowledgeable to diagnose and fix the problems, which were electrical, created by mice getting into the unit and gnawing wires. Now, they come twice a year to do checkup and maintenance, which includes putting mouse killer into the area, and the generator works like a charm, turning itself on/off once a week at the same time, so we know it's fine. Northeast are crooks. They came to service my generator that turned over easily but wouldn't start. There was a fault readout on the screen that called for service. After 10 mins the tech tells me that the motor wouldn't turn over which was a lie. I could hear it. He told me that I "should buy a new generator" since it wasn't worth repairing a 13 year old unit. A salesman called shortly after. Being suspicious I had the generator inspected by a reputable generator tech who informed me that someone had stuck a metal object in the motor and tried to start it which essentially destroyed the motor. The tech also told me that he had seen other Northeast generators 10 years or older sabotaged. I was forced to give 1 star to post. Don't get suckered like me. read more

We had a scheduled annual maintenance recently. The technician arrived on time. I was impressed that he spent a decent amount of time servicing the generator, which had been working fine. He told me there are a bunch of things to do, such as changing oil, etc. He then was able to find the box to cut off the power, so that he could make sure the generator was turning on as needed. It did take him a few minutes to locate this box, though I had forgotten where it was myself. After the generator went on as it was supposed to when he cut the power to the house, he then turned back on the power so that the generator would then turn off. It did take at least about 10 minutes for the generator to turn back off, and he dutifully waited in his truck until it finally did so. So, very professional and satisfying visit. read more

Ryan our maintenance representative was excellent and extremely competent. He checked all maintenance items, repair or replaced all filters air, oil, etc as necessary and doesn't recommend unnecessary maintenance or repairs. He checked our connections, shut the power on and off. Made sure the Generator was functioning properly and was very thorough. I couldn't recommend Northeast Generator any higher. Northeast Generator recently acquired our previous service provider. We were unaware of this change until NEG sent us a "heads up" letter in the mail months prior to the official acquisition. They scheduled a service (which we had missed the previous year with our original service company) and were quickly available for a phone call to get more information. I believe it was one of the owners (Andrew?) who explained the whole process and when the service technician arrived all went smoothly and we're happy. However, once we whispered that magic word, "attorney", Andrew Jaeger stepped up, communicated frequently, and our generator installation was completed promptly. Waiting a year for the generator to be completed. Very poor follow through. While the generator and transfer switch went in quickly over the winter, the gas line was installed in April. Since then nothing. Three calls to the company and nothing. in the last call they didn't even know I was a customer and couldn't find my information initially! Very clear no one was following up. Northeast Generator is joke of company that doesn't belong in business. Had generator serviced in late June. It is in good condition but needed a new choke plate, meaning the generator had about a 50/50 chance of turning on if needed. The part was on back order and FINALLY arrived this week (more than a month later) and was to be installed on August 7 per an appointment made two weeks prior, and on that day we just happened to lose power as part of the aftermath of Isaias and our generator failed to kick on. After repeated calls that went unanswered and speaking to two or three people who knew nothing, were barely literate or competent enough to take a phone message and therefore shouldn't have been answering phones, rather than confirming my two week old appointment, they told me THEY had cancelled it and pushed it to August 8. On August 8, I called and emailed repeatedly late morning to confirm when a technician would arrive to replace the choke plate, which apparently takes only about 20 minutes to do, and I experienced the same runaround as the day before -- no one answering and if you do catch someone, they're useless or marginally better than useless -- but with a bunch of excuses and assertions that they are "doing our best", which they clearly didn't comprehend simply wasn't good enough. I finally got through to a guy who swore up and down that a technician would "definitely" arrive that afternoon. Also received a reply email saying the technician would arrive August 8. As the day went on, I grew concerned and called back. At that point Northeast completely stopped answering calls and put up a recorded message instructing customers to email them or, even more useless, visit their website... I was clear with them that we had no running water (well system) without the generator and that we have young children and people in the house who have asthma and sometimes need a nebulizer. Well, needless to say, no one showed up, no one responded to us and we are still sitting in the dark. Northeast Generator completely left us high and dry at the very moment that they are supposed perform and the whole reason for their existence, and it still isn't over. Simply put, they're amateurs who aren't ready for prime time and anyone who would do business with them after an experience like ours is a fool. At this point, about the best way that they could be of service nowis to go out of business and make way for an alternative competent generator company to take over... UPDATE -- August 9, 2020 Received an email this morning from Northeast apologizing "for all this" and then making the lame/insulting excuse for missing my appointments on me not having a standing service contract in place (first time this was even mentioned by them) -- translation being that now I'm not important enough of a customer so it doesn't matter that I had an appointment on the calendar for two weeks -- and then telling me that a technician will come at some unspecified time tomorrow (August 10). Then, get this, they had the nerve/stupidity to spin this situation into a pitch to me to sign up a standing service contract to avoid them completely flaking on me in the future. Ordered 2 generators last fall...1 for FL and the same model for CT. FL installed on time in March as promised. CT thru Northeast generator said they could do in Feb and it is not yet installed and no one at NEG can give an expected date of install...they failed to meet every commitment date they made except one...and now I am facing a hurricane Henri...BTW thru my effort they received my unit in Mid-June. Worst customer service experience of my life. Generator failed on July 18. Had a service tech at the house who said he needed another part and scheduled to come back Aug 6, nearly three weeks later. We lost power of course in the storm so we called to confirm that someone would be at the house AS PROMISED at 9am on Aug 6. It is now 1:45pm. It has been nearly impossible to speak to a human. When we did get a human they said they couldn't locate the technician who was supposed to show up. read more

I don't want to find that my generator is not working when I really need it along with everyone else. I have a contract with NE Generator and they come by at regular intervals. The service people are polite and knowledgeable. The service is fairly expensive but In my opinion it is worth it. To whom it may concern..at Northeast Generator: A few years ago, we trusted the Claim by your firm for a Quality Experience with Northeast Generator! And we proceed to have you install a high-end generator to protect us...it has been plagued with problems. Our Disaster Experience with Northeast Generator was further highlighted by the fact that your team was servicing our generator in October of 2012, just prior to Hurricane Sandy! Just prior to the storm arriving, we called to confirm service and were told "yes, we ran and tested your generator and all is fine"! The evening Hurricane sandy struck the East Coast, we lost power, the Generator started... BUT NO POWER! We were without ANY POWER for close to 2 weeks (one of the last to be restored in Connecticut since most people in are area have generators that work)! We called your Firm Northeast Generator of CT over a dozen times - ONLY to get a recording each time and voicemail. NO Return calls from Northeast Generator! No SERVICE from Northeast Generator! Therefore, we called another Quality Generator Contactor.. they managed to call on us and tried to be of help.. But they pointed out the copper bushings had been burnt out for sometime .. and it was visible to see the Copper shaving everywhere inside the box. It was clear, the Northeast Generator Service failed to adequately test nor service - while charging us in 2012. As such we remained without power for these 2 weeks - at a significant cost and damage to my family!! Another Company had to "Rebuild the Generator (w/ a new service contract) - they tried to save us some money to see if our generator was under warranty - but found out that Northeast Generator installed an "old generator that had know bushing issues". Based on the age of the generator, the OVHI Guardian Generac System was no longer under warranty and the manufacturer claimed Northeast Generator must have installed a very old generator sitting around in their warehouse! Several weeks after the storm and after Another Company had to "Rebuild the Generator (w/ a new service contract) - we finally received a call back from Northeast Generator! Instead of being apologetic they now wanted to come-out to service and continue charging! Plus, Northeast Generator continued to invoice us following Hurricane Sandy - despite many invoices to cancel services.. While we paid for services for several months after and wrote on each payment to "CANCEL"!! you refused and invoiced us again in May of 2013 - over 6 months after we asked you to cancel. Now, in 2014, you have the audacity to invoice and Northeast Generator is attempted to destroy my credit rating. I give this company the highest possible rating for quality, effort, and general customer support. Here's why. My existing generator began to fail during Hurricane Sandy. Two people from Northeast Generator separately came out to help me keep it going until we could get a replacement. (Another company I spoke to just wanted to sell me a new generator, not help with the emergency situation.) Even though there was a huge demand for generators at the time, they were kind enough to speed up the installation process out of consideration for my 95-year-old mother, who lives with us. The President of Northeast generator even sent me an email asking me to tell him if we needed any emergency generation during the outage. During the installation of the new generator, the Northeast Generator people were extremely efficient, clean, responsible, and responsive. They promised a lot and delivered everything they promised. I have already recommended this company to at least eight friends, and I would never consider using another company for generation services. Ok, I've never written a bad review about anything on the internet before. This is a first and its only because NE Generator rarely gets it right. I've been a customer for over ten years. They installed my generator. Of course the wrong generator showed up 3X more than what I needed. They ordered the wrong size unit. NE Generator said sorry, but since they ordered the wrong size it would cost a lot to restock it. Would I consider the larger one at a reduced price? OK what the heck! It cost me more and now I have enough power to light up Danbury Airport. Now they come out for routine maintenance every year. Not cheap, but you have to do it. Now I'll have to say 80% of the time one of these yearly maintenance is done and there is some type of problem. Last time the guy said I had to replace all the spark plugs ( not covered by maintenance agreement$$$) OK do it! Six months later another guy shows up when the generator failed to turn on and says "you need new spark plugs". I'm not a mechanic, but spark plugs don't go bad in six months and why did it fail if it was just serviced? Call office and they send out a supervisor. He says "of course you don't need spark plugs." Shortly after we had a storm. Power goes out. Generator fails to turn on. Can I get a tech out immediately? No we are taking care of critical installations like hospitals. We will be out in two days????Ugh! Today was the the icing on the cake. Wake up and there is propane smell in my house. Hmmm? Only thing different is NE Generator did their routine maintenance yesterday. Take a walk out by generator only to see spilled oil all over the ground. Called office and another supervisor is coming out to explain this latest episode of poor service. In 2005 we had Northeast Generator install a Generac generator for our home. From first contact with the office to the service technicians, everyone we have ever dealt with has been friendly, professional and prompt answering any questions or concerns we have ever had. Today we had our semi annual service for our 13 year old generator and the tech made a point of telling my husband and I that our unit looks brand new. There is no dirt, oil or rust on our unit and it does look as good as the day it was installed. The technicians are always careful to clean any lubricant or oil they may use in their service. They are very thorough and diligent in servicing our unit. They tell me when they have performed even the slightest adjustment to keep our unit running its best. Years ago one of their technicians told me that they best way to prolong the life of the generator was to keep it well maintained. When it snowed, keep the unit and the area around it free from snow. In the fall, make sure that leaves and other debris are not adhering to the side of the unit blocking air flow for it's weekly automatic self test. Keep your propane levels up so that the unit never runs out of gas. Heeding their advice and semi annual checks by NE Gen has kept our investment not only looking great but working great! read more
