Lately, it feels like Service Stars' prices have gone through the roof, and unfortunately, my…read morerecent experience was extremely disappointing. Two weeks ago, they came out to fix a bathroom tub leak. I was charged $1,300 to replace the cartridge, handle, and spout. The parts cost around $250, and the job should have taken less than an hour, but they stayed for about four hours because they kept getting the wrong parts. They came back last week because the tub was still leaking. This time, they said I needed to replace the shower base where the cartridge goes and quoted me $3,400. I declined and asked them to put everything back together, but the leak was actually worse afterward. What bothered me most was the lack of transparency. I asked for a breakdown of the charges and was essentially told, "That's just what we charge." After almost spending nearly $4,700, I feel I could have had the entire tub area remodeled by another company. I also recently tried to cancel my membership and learned that it's a one-year contract and that canceling early may require paying back the discounts. That was not my understanding when I signed up. I'm extremely disappointed with the pricing, communication, and lack of transparency. I'll be taking my business elsewhere and looking for a company with fair pricing and clear, honest billing. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Service Stars based on my experience.

Last…read morenight, in the middle of a terrible snow-storm, we lost power and the generator didn't switch on. When I went out to investigate I discovered that the tech had locked the generator cover and taken the key. I called their "24 hour emergency line" and the surly operator who answered the call informed me that i would have to pay time-and-a-half for a tech to make a service call. Fortunately, a neighbor with the same model generator had a spare key, and I was able to open the generator cover and respond to the low oil-pressure warning. A generator is only as good as it functions in an emergency, and deliberately preventing the owner from doing simple servicing in such circumstances is unconscionable. Furthermore, make absolutely sure that you have parts on hand to deal with all the ways your generator can fail: oil, spare air-filter and key, fuses, &c. And especially the owner's manual!

This is the third time we used this HVAC service company - and only initially because when I was…read moreaway for work my husband found them in the book during an emergency when the heat wasn't working (they 'sold' him a completely new thermostat system despite ours having been new not that many years before). We had issues subsequently not only with the 2 heating zones not working multiple times (causing them to finally replace one of the new thermostats which was clearly malfunctioning - but not until after the main boss man came and was incredibly rude and tried to weasel out of taking responsibility). Then later when our A/C went out we called for service on that (which was completed sufficiently - but belabored by multiple visits eventually found to be a sticking damper). However, this latest visit to fix our condensate pump after finding a flood on the floor near the furnace (due to them being the only ones to have worked on the system in recent years - and my wish to be loyal as they had in the end -despite the pain - gotten to the root of prior problems) led to the guy fixing the piping to the pump, but never turning the system back on to test. So when we turned it on that night we found our A/C (which had previously been working flawlessly) wasn't functioning. They came today to say/find that the furnace fan wasn't running, and only after pressing for more information said it would be at least 3 days (in 80+ deg heat - with our whole family arriving for a graduation celebration next day) for them to get a new furnace fan motor and motor control board. While relaying this to me the owner (boss man again) started screaming at me that I was a problem, disrespecting his man - which was not the case AT ALL; I was nice and was helping him turn things on/off to try to assist - and that I could take care of my problem. The 2 folks in the house with me witnessing this were appalled. NEVER AGAIN. STAY AWAY!!

From my very first call, Diane understood the urgency and immediately sent their foreman, Edwin, who was knowledgeable, thorough, and very clear in explaining what needed to be done. Within just a few hours, Diane provided a detailed proposal and arranged for the team to be onsite the very next day to remove the ducts, replace a rusty pan, and coordinate the reinstall once remediation was complete. When the crew arrived (Fernando and Sabino), they worked quickly and professionally, clearly taking pride in their work. Their years of experience showed, and the results exceeded my expectations. Because of this excellent experience, we are also considering Tri-Tech for our ongoing annual AC maintenance. It's clear that Tri-Tech is now far more responsive and client-focused than some of the older reviews might suggest. Since Diane took on scheduling, estimates, and coordination, she has truly elevated the customer experience. She goes above and beyond to make sure clients feel supported -- and the skilled technicians deliver quality work. Highly recommend Diane, Edwin, Fernando, Sabino, and the entire Tri-Tech team!
