There are picnic tables and plenty of parking. Clean bathrooms that the city of Martinez does a good job of keeping clean. We go to this place over and over again because it's just so nice.

There are so many overrated parks around - this is not one of them. I think its an underrated park in an underrated city. Martinez is one of these cities that just isn't Walnut Creek or Danville or Orinda. A more affordable city and a family friendly one. Its good to get out and take a walk. I recommend you do that once in a while and why not try a different park from what your used to every once in a while? If you have a dog they will particularly love it sniffing around someplace new. Some of the park is noticed from the main road - Morello. You might even see some people enjoying the basketball hoop from there. Just the 'curb appeal' of the park will get you interested to see more. When I got here with Sweets had in gear this launch mode I hadn't seen since he was a bit younger. His enthusiasm was intense and I was surprised since for the most part he just likes to stay at home - Netflix and chill. There really is something for the whole family to enjoy here. A very underrated park that you need to make time to see one day soon.

There was a nice wide trail for us to follow and Tinkerbell could sniff around without worrying about foxtails We walked by the dog park where we visited with dogs in the park thru the fence During Covid we would grab takeaway from Popeyes and have a picnic in the park- then walk it off with a stroll/ so it was I nice memory of dating my hubby during Covid/ getting back to nature

Newhall Park is a large, neighborhood park not far from where I live. It has many things to…read morerecommend it, and yet it has been ages since I've been there - maybe I'm guilty of the "grass is always greener" syndrome. But finally, my wife and I returned on the recent Sunday and were reacquainted with all it has to offer. It's a good park for walking: there's a flat, dirt path that circles the park; I didn't measure it, but it's a decent length, especially if you make multiple rounds. Along the way you see the park has a large bocce ball court, a popular dog park, and a good sized hill for cardio purposes with the Concord Vietnam Memorial on the top. A weekend adult soccer game was going on in the middle of the field. On the other side of the park is a pond (we saw an egret, ducks and geese), and a marsh-like area with tons of cattails. Galindo Creek, heavily shaded with trees, borders the edge of the park. A number of benches let you take a break when you need it from your walk. Newhall Park is a little rough around the edges visually. There's none of the graceful elegance of a Walnut Creek Larkey Park, with its paved path, lush green grass and stately trees. Newhall's grassy areas are functional, but look beat up with numerous dead spots (maybe blame the soccer). The walking path is hard dirt, but can be messy after a rain. The parking lot also is unpaved, and is in poor condition with bumps and holes. We noticed a number of cars parked along Turtle Creek Road prior to the park entrance. But these are minor concerns. In the uber-populated East Bay, any park is a welcome break from wall-to-wall homes, stores and concrete. Newhall Park is an easy way to get out and breathe the fresh air, and deserves the popularity it enjoys. That Walnut Creek park may have greener grass, but sometimes that park down the street is all we need.

The security gate is constantly broken, the docks are filthy, parking areas are littered with leaves and trash, and weeds are severely overgrown. There are abandoned boats with trash piled on top of them, and garbage stacked along dock walls -- it's honestly unacceptable. Despite numerous complaints, we're always told that something will be done, that they're working with boat owners to clean up and register boats. But when we return, nothing has changed. There's been frequent turnover with the harbormaster, and each new person seems to care less than the last. The current harbormaster is especially rude and dismissive of concerns. Meanwhile, they continue to raise our fees every year with no improvements in return. We've stayed this long simply because the location is convenient for us -- but it's time for us to leave. Every year the conditions get worse. On our dock, only 5 or 6 boats remain, even though there's space for 20-30. That alone speaks volumes. We do NOT recommend renting a slip here.
