This is one great Marina!! I came here on a sunny Saturday, parking was easy, and the whole vibe here was just chill!! Lots of trails to walk and run on that connects to the nearby parks, seems like you could get some good miles in here!! The fishing pier offered great views of the Carquinez Strait and the Benecia-Martinez Bridge!! There are also plenty of picnic areas here, and it's just a short walk to Downtown Martinez!! read more

We just launched our boat on Saturday, August 24th, and it cost $10. Put cash in an envelope, drop the envelope in the metal box, then launch. The old company that used to run the marina is no longer there and the complex is now being run by the City. They just took over a couple weeks ago, so things are not the same (e.g., the bait shop isn't open anymore, low priority for the City?). But you can still launch your boat for $10. read more

Besides having a great view of sunsets, the Martinez Marina is a great place to head out for a day of fishing, or to just relax on your boat. Since the new management company, F3 and Jamie came aboard a couple of months ago, there has been a vast improvement on repairing of docks as well as providing a safe, clean and peaceful environment. The marina also sits right next door to Radke-Martinez Regional Shoreline Park where you can find a vast variety of birds, such as Egrets and Herons. It also has a great trail system for hikers and nature lovers alike. The Martinez Pier is getting a much needed renovation and the marina is looking sharp after being spruced up with new paint and improvements to the Harbor Master's Office and grounds. I absolutely love coming to the Martinez Marina! From boating and fishing to picnics and trail walking, there is always something to do here. I used to come here all of the time during the summer to run and walk along the many trails. It can get extremely hot during the summertime, but the cool breeze from the Marina can be the perfect way to cool down. There are always birds flying around and beautiful ducks swimming in the water. The sounds of the waves are very therapeutic. There are benches and a few tables which can be great for a small picnic or a quick lunch outdoors. The sunsets are another reason why I frequent this Marina. They are absolutely amazing! The only down side is that is gets super cold at night. Make sure to bring a blanket or a thick coat if you plan to come by during the evening and especially during the winter time. It is also a good idea to wear some type of mosquito repellent and of course that good old sunscreen! I learned the hard way and came back home with tons of mosquito bites on my legs one year after running along one of the trails. The parking is free and there are plenty of spaces available. I enjoy watching all of the different boats sail by and the wonderful view of the Benicia bridge in the distance. If you're in the Martinez area and you haven't visited this Marina, you definitely have to check it out! read more

The marina has something for everyone!! Bocce courts, baseball fields, shoreline with windy paths, fishing, boat ramps, a beautiful park, two play structures, a skatepark. There is endless possibilities for a day of fun or just an hour. If your downtown you should definitely visit the marina! It is a gem. However, stay away from the front parking lot with the trailers, a little drug traffic. But their high asses don't move, so the rest of the park is cool. read more

The good: Great for walking, easy hiking, fishing, boating, picnics, relaxing etc Family/kid friendly Ive never seen it too crowded in the parking lots or the parks Good weather even in the summer, usually about 10° cooler than inland but it can get very windy Nice dog park, with tan bark instead of sand or dirt so its cleaner. Separate sections for big and small dogs. Dogs are also allowed everywhere except for certain areas which are clearly marked. You can also park a motorhome or travel trailer in the parking lot, for up to two weeks at a time. it's $15 a day(last time i checked) with no hookups(water, sewer, electricity), and no bathroom/shower privileges. There is a public bathroom under the harbor master's office. it gets locked every night when the office closes, and the shower area is always locked. it's meant for the people who live on their boats in the dock. When we asked for the key to the bathroom so we could shower, they were very hesitant and eventually let us use it with a $25 deposit that we could get back when we returned the key. As others have mentioned, Olivia can be very rude and doesn't hesitate to call the police if you haven't moved your RV when your permit time is up. $15 a day is a lot for nothing more than a slab of concrete to exist on for a couple weeks. but as anyone who has lived or traveled in a recreational vehicle knows, options are limited. read more

The rude woman described in other yelp reviews who is is paid under the title "harbor master" at this marina is named Olivia Ortega. As you can read others accurately describe her here, she is violently rude and this without provocation. I purchased a boat in this marina, and quickly learned of Olivia's rudeness. She, upon her first interaction with me, began to attempt to make bizarre and controlling demands of me and others which very often clearly had nothing to do with her job, and were obviously illegal. I noticed she seemed quite emotionally unstable and, after about ten minutes of observation, mentally ill. I decided to pretend that I did not notice this behavior when it was directed at me, minimized my interactions with her, and decided immediately to move my boat from this marina at my first available opportunity. During the brief and unavoidable encounters with her, during important business transactions, Olivia would almost constantly interrupt, make and then immediately act on false assumptions, shout, and engage in assaulting and illegal behavior without the numerous victims having done anything whatsoever to provoke her illegal and often criminal behavior. The consequences that her illness has on the public is concerning, as well, as she is, ostensibly, tasked to manage a sizeable municipal asset. In my case, again, I decided to ignore Olivia's mercurial rudeness and apparent mental illness until I could transfer the boat I once had in this marina to another owner, transfer the boat and marina key to that new owner, and (of course with ample notice and respect to every contractual obligation I had to this marina) cut all ties with Olivia and the unfortunate place she pollutes. It is noteworthy as well that I, (despite her rudeness to me and others) was polite and courteous with all Marina staff in every encounter during my contractual engagement with them (from October to December of 2018). When, however, after I'd lawfully fulfilled and cancelled my contract in good faith, and informed Olivia of this, she immediately became threatening, claiming that I 'couldn't leave her marina'. Olivia and her employer should understand that her mental illness, sadly, disqualifies her from positions which require contact with the public. First, it is not her marina. She takes money from (though fails to successfully conduct work for) a company tasked with the municipal marina's management, nothing more. Secondly, people can and certainly do end contracts with the Martinez Marina (something that is certainly not hers) in full satisfaction of every part of said contracts, as I and many others have. She and her employer should also understand that contracts are legal documents with clear meaning that are enforced by real government institutions. A full nine months after fulfilling all obligations to and cutting all ties with this marina, Olivia is still attempting to harass me. She has admitted to members of the Martinez city government, me, and to the new owner of my vessel that she has no right to contact me whatsoever, that I have fulfilled every obligation I have ever had to the Martinez Marina, and that she is doing so simply to continue unpleasant behavior for her own unwell personal satisfaction. Today is the day Olivia was served with formal documents outlining her choice: cease and desist, or face the consequences laid out by our legal system. Hopefully her employer will read this, investigate this and other complaints against her, and fire her. As others have noted here, it is high time Olivia had a career change as it is. If she is not fired, and does not desist, Olivia will certainly face swift civil and criminal consequences. Should anyone else suffer the same annoyances with Olivia (or others in this marina, should this be a systemic issue) that I have, please feel free to contact me. If you have fulfilled every contractual obligation to this business as I have and if she threatens to usurp her very limited role as an employee of the business serving the city of Martinez which cuts her checks, please feel free to contact me. She is personally liable to make you whole for the time and inconvenience she causes you, and I am happy to help you to see your compensation come to fruition. read more

I have had involvement with Olivia and her staff for many years and have seen and experienced nothing but the best customer service and behavior towards other patrons. That is uncalled for and to comment or presume a mental state or condition should be flagged by YELP and taken down. WOW as many times as we have been to the Marina park Bocce Ball courts to watch games I have never ventured down to the Marina. I miss living on the Coast and yesterday in the pouring rain we walked along the port and it was heaven! I can see us spending many evenings along this water front. read more

The Martinez Marina looks pretty when you look at it from the Benicia Bridge or other distance. It's a nice place up close to, with plenty of trails and other scenic waterfront property to walk around. And don't we all need a nearby place to occasionally escape? This is also a popular place for schools to bring the kids up (via the nearby Amtrak station) for a short field trip. The Downtown Martinez restaurant choices have also improved over time and it's only a short walk either coming or going. There also used to be a water-side restaurant on the Marina years ago, which used to provide a nice Department lunch or evening sunset opportunity. read more

This is a nice place to go for a stroll and enjoy the fresh air. There is some parts that flooded, but you can always walk around. I enjoyed taking pictures here, others may want to jog. There is some nice birds for bird watching, not just the seagull, and I believe I also saw the Aflac™ duck a few times. The parking is free, perhaps even overnight because there was a really shitty RV parked. I grew up in Martinez and one of my fondest childhood memories was visiting the Martinez Marina for Friday night bocce ball with my parents. Although I haven't been back on a Friday night in close to 20 years, I have visited the marina many times for a nice, long walk. Parking is always easy to find and there is a low impact trail that takes you along the water and over a number of cute and interesting bridges. Much of the trail is unpaved, so it is not necessarily stroller and bike friendly, but it is still very walk/run friendly. The unpaved areas are also wildlife sanctuaries which means that dogs are not allowed in those areas. So leave the bike, stroller, and dog at home and take a leisurely, couple mile walk at the marina. Oh, and they have bathrooms! Hooray! After a nice walk, you can take anther short walk across the train tracks and back to downtown to grab lunch and do some antique shopping. read more

I really like this park. Its a pleasant and nice place to escape. Located by downtown Martinez by the old docks, there's a descent Size Park with benches throughout, surprisingly clean public bathrooms, a little lake that the trail wraps around with geese and ducks, as well as cute little bridges placed over the little streams that the trail leads over. The train station is close by and it kind of just has that old fashioned feel which is kind of nice. The cool bay breeze is very soothing particularly in the warm summer evenings. I usually go a few days a week in the evenings. From time to time you see a homeless person here and there, but totally harmless and I have certainly never experienced any problems. There are a few different short little trails throughout (mostly unpaved trails, so not exactly perfect for biking), nothing too marathon long but simple and nice. Like I said, it's nothing spectacular but it's a great place to escape and views of the bay aren't bad. If you happen to be downtown its worth taking a quick stroll to check out. read more

I grew up spoiled. Michigan, Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Florida marinas are done so well with such respect to the water. My wife and I are SHOCKED and dismayed to see the careless way Californians treat the oceans, lakes, streams and the neighboring marinas and ports. Most other areas of the country those area are some of the most beautiful areas in town. In California the Marinas looked to be built by callous government employees who have never visited the water. I'm giving this a Meh, I've experienced better. So after a long sail from Angel Island to here I got on my VHF radio on channel 9. "MARTINEZ, THIS IS ******. CAN YOU PLEASE DIRECT US TO THE GUEST BERTH?" (silence) I repeated my hail 3 times, no answer. Later I was told that they didn't have their radio on. I just pulled into the easiest slip for me to turn into. We guest berthed here in our sailboat last summer. The harbormaster didn't tell us the slip we were in was going to have only 3 feet of water at low tide (our draft is about 4 feet) It was time to go at low tide and guess what? We were stuck... There was other things that sort of bugged me. Why doesn't my key card from my home marina work here? Oh that's right, it's still on a key system. The showers were private, but shared space with the public restrooms. I can understand why Almar wanted to take this place over. It has potential BUT it needs a lot of love to get there. I heard a rumor that Almar was going to buy a marina across the strait and sink this one. I like what Almar has done at Central Basin in Oakland. I like what they've done at Treasure Island. I like how I can go up the Oakland Estuary and use my keycard at Central Basin, Jack London Square, and Treasure Island. Everything is clean, and there's private areas for people in the "Almar Family" to BBQ, or shit, shower, and shave. It's not that way here. read more

I went here last Wednesday with a couple of my friends to just walk around and catch up. Initially, when I arrived I thought I never went here before, but it turns out this was actually the place where I'd go with my dad and my uncle to launch his boat out to go fishing out in the bay. Anyway, when we were there, the place looked pretty bad because it looks like the area gets flooded a lot. The water level is not that much lower than the actual land level in this area, and it appears like most of the marina can be submerged really easily. The area seems to be somewhat of a refuge for birds, if you like birds, this is your place. Also, if you like taking pictures of birds, this is a good place to practice that. read more

I took my 15 year old grandson to the pier here to teach him how to fish and see if he likes it. I took him there because you don't need a license to fish. Well, I can't say anything but great stuff about the bait shop and the woman running it! The reason I gave only 3 stars is because it didn't seem like a good place to fish. Only 1 person out there had caught anything. We kept getting our lines stuck and lost a number of hooks until a nice fisherman came over and told me that they are 3 big cables that run under the water in that area of the pier. read more

what a dump..went to stay for the wekend and found the marina in deplorable condition. We signed up to stay at their guest dock and when we arrived there was no one around including the harbor master. There was a 40 foot fishing vessel tied up at the guest dock and was not told that people start arriving at 4:00am down on the docks to go fishing...also, the same boat kept his night halogen lights on so we were blinded to the point we could't even watch tv...the boat was empty and the harbor master was gone by 6pm...so we had a night from hell there...also be aware that other boats in the marina do fishing charters starting at 3:00am..i belong to a mojor yacht club and will take steps to boycot Martinez Marina.Go to Pittsburg or Benicia, they are a class act! read more

I have a sailboat in the Martinez Marina. I've been here for a total of three years, and have appreciated the communications and reasonable responses to any issues that have come up. I see that there is a recent review left here on Yelp that amounts to a personal attack on Olivia Ortega, the Harbormaster. I can only describe that review as "flaming". It is really libel, and, in my opinion, probably should be its own counter-lawsuit to "Nicholas Z". Based on his review, it sounds like Nicholas transferred the keys to the marina and his vessel to a new owner. He has every right to transfer his vessel, but not the keys to the marina. Those of us in the marina count on the security of knowing that only people who have been vetted have keys to the docks. Otherwise, what would be the point of having gates at all? Ignore Nicholas Z. He has a personal vendetta, and is way over the line of human decency. (I am only taking off a star for the City of Martinez failing to keep the marina dredged properly.) read more

this is a really great place to launch a boat. there is a wall that keeps the waves and current from making a rough launch/retrieval. there are four ramps that you can launch/land from. the facilities are clean, clean restrooms, and the bait shop is very clean and has everything you need to fish the delta. this spot is the perfect location to launch from if you are trying to fish the mothball fleet and surrounding area. better than the benicia launch, and will put you right under the bridge for some sturgeon in just a few minutes. i also like launching from here b/c if the water gets rough, or if the fog rolls in which can happen very quickly out there, its a quick strike back to the safety of the launch ramps. read more
