LivHome is aiming to be a corporate giant and capitalize on an aging population. What they "care" about is the bottom line: their profit. They've moved to a pricing structure that nickles and dimes the client. For example, if the caregiver helps the client make a phone call, then they must note it and charge for it. If they help the client with walking, then again, they charge extra. In addition, they are bullying and lying to long-time caregivers by saying they are not allowed to work extra hours, even if their weekly cumulative hours are not excessive (approx. 45 per week). The reason? Because they don't want their caregivers becoming too close to the client because they then run the risk of losing the caregiver. I've NEVER received a call from a supposed "care manager" or "care coordinator." Take my advise: go with another agency or hire a private caregiver. You'll undoubtedly receive much more compassionate service at a lower price.

I hired LivHome for care giving services upon my discharge from a skilled nursing facility. They…read morewere one of three services recommended to me by the nursing facility. I also knew someone involved with the organization. The care manager came out to visit with me and reviewed their services and my situation. I was told I would have to pay a higher rate because of my condition and that I have a cat. I was told there would be no problem with anything I was asking for including transferring. We discussed the type of caregiver I would need given my size. Again, I was told it was no problem. In 3 months' time, I had 5 caregivers. They included one that put her television watching ahead of helping me, one that cleaned the carpet by sweeping it with a broom and watching the dryer as the laundry finished, and one who told me up front she wanted a live-in position. I never requested a change; I always tried to work with them. The care manager always made excuses for the caregiver. It appeared to me that they were more concerned with fitting the caregiver's requests and schedule than the client. They made it seem that my request for someone to be proactive was very unusual. Furthermore, every time the care manager had to visit me, call me or work on my case, there was a $110 charge. The last caregiver I had was very good but she had just started working in the office so her hours were limited. There was one time I went 3 weeks without service. I asked the care manager what the problem was. He said it was a combination of 3 things: the # of hours I wanted (4 hrs. per week), my location (5 miles from their office) and the fact that I have a cat. All of the caregivers I had with the exception of the last all lived on the South or West side of the city. The final straw came last week when I was hospitalized for 2 days. I called the care manager to tell him what was going on and that I would need someone upon my discharge and going forward for about a week until I got my strength back. He said no problem and that he would call me daily. I called him the next day as soon as I found out I was being discharged. He sounded annoyed that I was calling so late for services. He was able to confirm my regular caregiver but no one called to tell me this or what time she would be here. During her visit, I asked who would be here the next day. She looked at me dumbfounded and said no one. I was told they worked on it all night but couldn't find any one. I was very frightened because I was extremely weak and alone. Furthermore, the caregiver the night before had locked the door despite my several instructions to leave it unlocked and she had left my transfer board out of my reach. I found out later that the care manager had spoken to one of the people I listed on my application about my situation. He spoke to him without my knowledge and told him more about the situation than he told me. I could understand if I was elderly and wasn't in my right mind but I'm young and am fully aware of what's going on. I felt very betrayed. He told the person he had no hard feelings. Well, that makes one of us! I would only go with them if you live South or West of the city and you want to be nickeled and dimed for the services. There are much better services out there who deserve your business.

It is also a tremendous resource, support and relief for parents…read more We were skeptical in the beginning as we did not believe that a play-based method that is fun, actually works. Three years later, our kids - almost 8 and 4.5-year-old- are so much better off with AZ&A than without. AZ&A has helped us get to know our kids and ourselves as parents as well as it has been one of the most impactful support systems in our family life. The leaders and the counselors are beyond amazing and feel a part of our family. I am forever grateful to the wonderful spirit who introduce me to AZ&A and said, "there is a better way", try AZA - the hidden gem of Lincoln Park for kids and parents. We plan to continue for as long as we can.

We started coming…read morewhen our youngest was an infant, she had some delays due to being cord wrapped in utero, and Karen has been wonderful with her, dealing with the eventual emotional delays and really teaching us how to help her regulate. Karen has given us a lot of support with parent calls, articles and tips for us to help her. We eventually needed to bring our oldest because she was having difficulties with her emotions and being able to regulate. We work with Katie, who has also been wonderful and the key to our child's progress has been regular parent meetings with Katie. I found I had to work just as hard on myself and understanding my reactions. This was fundamental to helping my child progress. Katie has really pushed me in a good way and has also been supportive with podcasts, articles and goals. If you are looking for some place to be passive and hope your child improves, this is not the place for you. If you are willing to get in there and play with your kid and get a deeper understanding of his/her struggles to boost yours and your kids emotional intelligence - this is the place. They are really good about helping you with insurance as much as they can. The physical environment is like no other clinic, it is much more like a home and less like a clinical space.

The news was hard to digest, and my heart hurt. I really knew nothing about Autism, I didn't know where to start. With his Early Intervention services stopping, it became my mission to act fast and find my son the BEST possible help I could find him. That's when we found Blue Bird Day. Right from the start, I knew this was the place for my son. From the very first phone call, to the site visit & tour, to meeting the staff, bringing my son in for evaluation...every step of the way the entire staff was so helpful, caring and knowledgeable. I knew my little guy would be in good hands and I truly believed he'd be getting THE BEST help I could find for him. Aside from the 4-hour school day, he also receives individualized/intensive therapy. In just a little over 7 months he has already made so much progress! He's socializing, vocalizing more, communicating his needs in various ways including signing...he is just thriving! Every teacher, assistant and therapist at BBD is amazing...they truly care about my son and are just as excited as I am every time he accomplishes something new or meets a goal. They came highly recommended by OTs from EI and from colleagues at UIH. So far my daughter has had astronomical leaps in communication, social emotional skills, self regulation, and academic (kindergarten) skills. She still has a lot of things to work on but the team has been amazing. I want to specially shout out Salena, the BEST BCBA ever. She sets aside an hour bi weekly to talk to me about my daughter's progress, my future goals and priorities, and sometimes acts as a parent therapist to help me manage my own expectations and anxieties. For a long time, my daughter would not enter public bathrooms. This is something we've been working on for years. Since Salena has taken over her case, my daughter now goes inside Starbucks and Trader Joes and even washes her hands! This has been the MOST progress she's had on this front. My daughter is also very attached and affectionate towards Salena, which is a testament to her skills and genuine care.

So organized, always creative, lively, fun and interactive sessions. I have not found anything like it in all of Chicago and it is affordable, always a consideration when choosing therapies for a kiddo in need. They accept and bill insurance companies and are always easy to work with in every aspect. Very responsive to emails and questions which is so important especially when you as the parent might not know what might be going on or who to turn to with questions. I always appreciate that any request I have or concern to address, they help find a solution, have an idea or give a suggestion. They truly care about kids and try to help in any way they can. I have another child too and love that I am always able to bring him and comfortably wait in the waiting room without issue. Compass is terrible. I went here once in the winter of 2021 and once this summer. I have genuine…read morePTSD from my summer trip and have blocked out most of the experience. I was in the child program (despite being 13), and there were kids who were bullying each other, never enough staff in the room, and very little options in coping skills to use. I felt interrogated during one-on-one sessions, like things I said would be used against me (and they were). I also felt like I couldn't share any of my true thoughts in group sessions because we had to "keep it PG," which with the severity of my issues defeated the whole purpose. It was so overwhelming, I was forced to do sanitized "summer camp activities," and I was often discouraged from using coping skills in the moment. I was also guilt-tripped by my family therapist after telling them I'd be leaving the program early. One more thing I remember is multiple times, kids were having meltdowns and we were kicked out of our rooms, the kids were throwing things at us and screaming, and we were all scared. A kid threw my friend's lunch across the room once. I have nightmares regularly about Compass and I haven't been the same since going. Never again. I hope that this company goes out of business and loses all its money. Because that's what it is, a for-profit company. They don't care about us.

I found custom home care while researching help for my neighbor when he was released from rehab…read more He is 83 and needed daily care after bad fall. I called a variety of agencies but once I connected with custom it just felt right. Sheila scheduled a visit while in rehab and then home visit before he transitioned home. Their advice, reccomendations and everything has been stellar. They are able to accomodate needs quickly and have a large, excellent pool of caregivers. They were able to provide male caregivers as well which was a major plus. We have used custom for about 4 months now and it only gets better. The caregivers have ALL been professional, knowledgeable and people you feel very comfortable leaving alone with my neighbor. Each one has been outstanding in keeping me informed and I know my friend is watched out for and safe. If you researching these options I understand how stressful and discouraging it can be. Its a very difficult process but I can assure you that custom has exceeded our expectations. Highest praise and highest respect to EVERY one I have talked to at custom home. They amount of stress that has been removed knowing we chose wisely is the most wonderful feeling ever.
