Very disappointed with the recent service. The technician came to repair our garage door, which has a working motor, but only completed part of the job without giving us a full estimate beforehand. He fixed the cable and rebalanced the door (which may have been necessary), but then quoted a higher price mid-repair for the rest of the work--something we weren't told about up front. We ended up paying $260 for a door that still doesn't work. It felt unfair and misleading. In the future, they should be more transparent and provide a full quote before starting anything. 10/26/2022 I hired north shore garage doors to remove my ceiling chamberlain smart system and upgrade to a wall mount unit. I got mix quote from rep over the phone and tech on-site for installing torsion conversation. And at the end of installation, I asked for assistance with activating myQ system just like I had it on my previous unit. Tech had no experience about myQ. Come to find out I was sold a basic garage motor and myQ was not compatible. When I asked to upgrade they quoted almost same price for myQ smart garage motor vs the basic unit. Why would you sell customers basic motor if the price difference isn't much ($50). I'm a contractor my self and most homes today are all myQ system so you can open your garage using your phone. I was given the run around for exchanging the unit and trying to see if a vendor will accept the exchange. Unfortunately this company is all about ripping customers and charge them arm a leg. I spend $1750 just to get the motor installed in my garage. Also they removed the old unit but never bothered to remove the old garage door sensors. So now I have 2 garages sensors on each side. I gave them the opportunity to work with me and based on my belief they had no interest in making me happy. I highly recommend all viewers to be careful what you request from this company. read more

Had to write this review based on my recent experience with John Gutiérrez from this company. I had recently purchased a house and was facing issues with my garage opener's remote operations. I called North Shore due to a mailer that had shown up in my mailbox, and John was so generous with his troubleshooting advice without trying to sell me anything. Based on his advice, the issue was traced to the lightbulbs attached to the unit; John said that LED lamps emit EMF that interfere with the remote's signals. Removing those bulbs solved the problem. John didn't get any of my money (coz I didn't buy anything) but he definitely got my admiration and gratitude. Honesty like this is very rare nowadays, and I hope him and his business all success! read more

North Shore Garage Doors recently installed a new door, motor, and tracks as part of an addition and renovation on our home. Will (the owner) came out a few times to make sure everything would be ready to go when the door arrived from the distributor. The back office staff was also available to address any questions I had throughout the process. The door looks great and after a few weeks is working as expected. The business is opening a storefront locally in the near future and I think that will be quite helpful for potential customers in the future to better understand their options when selecting a new door. read more

I had my garage door opener replaced by them back in September of 2021. They rescheduled my appointment twice last minute. Then the person who finally showed up to install it wasn't even with the actual "Northshore Garage Door" company. It was a subsidiary company In an unmarked white van. Just three months into this new opener and it's broken. I called to make another appointment to get it fixed. They didn't even call to reschedule this time...just didn't show up. When I called to ask what was up I got the same excuse as last time...the technician had a family emergency....you might want to alternate your excuses for not providing good customer service. Wish I would have never used them. I would advise using another company! Shortly after this review I spoke with mike and he apologized for this issues and had his technician out here first thing the next day. Miles had it all fixed and ready to go within 10 minutes. Our garage door spring broke, and a technician came out the next day. The service was performed, and everything seems to have been repaired well. When we received the invoice, we noticed that we were accidentally charged $50 too much, and were owed a reimbursement. The business confirmed this. However, it has now been over two months, and upwards of 10 phone calls to try to rectify this. Most of the calls have resulted in being told that it will be taken care of, and that the owner needs to approve and cut the check. Yet, as I said, still nothing has been done. The communication has been nothing short of a train wreck. It's too bad because they came highly recommended by neighbors. Unfortunately, I will not be passing along that recommendation to anyone. I decided to replace my Liftmaster chain garage door opener with a Liftmaster belt drive, with camera, MyQ, & back up battery. I called the company that installed the door and opener when the home was built 10 yrs ago to get a quote. I also called North Shore Garage Doors because I remembered that I had outstanding service when I had a door and opener replaced at my former home. North Shore gave me quotes for a few options. The sales person was very knowledgeable. She was able to match a lower quote and scheduled the installation to my preference. I was given a window between 10-12 but the scheduler called to change the time to between 2-4. I called at 5 to see if the installer was still coming. He showed up closer to 6 but he couldn't do the install because he didn't have the correct model on the truck. My appointment for the next day was between 8-10. I called at 11 and was told he'd be here by 12. At 12 I received a call that it was going to be around 12:30. The installer arrived about 45 minutes later. I made sure he had the correct model and the keypad. He had everything installed in just under 2 hours. He programmed my remotes and made sure everything worked as it should. He told me to download the MyQ app. Later that afternoon the installer from the previous day, Miles, was at my door. He said his boss knew he was in the area on another job and he wanted him to stop by and check to see if I was happy with the installation. I said that I was. That really impressed me. Less than a week after the install the Keypad wasn't responding. I called at 2:40 to see if they could walk me through resetting it. The guy said he'd send a technician out within the hour. Around 3:30 someone called to say Vernon would be at my house at 4:40. It's 6:10 and he's still not here. Bottom line - you absolutely can rely on good prices and competent, professional technicians who leave the job site neat and clean. You absolutely cannot rely on their arrival time windows and do not take a half day off work to get the job done in the morning. For whatever reason their time estimates are way off and they don't bother call to let you know they are on the way. If they train their installers to call the customer with an ETA when they are on the way, that would go far in ensuring customer satisfaction. I would give them 5 stars if they respected the customer's time. read more

Purchased a new garage door from North Shore Garage Doors dba Woodfield Door (West Suburban Garage Door) while not the lowest price they kept mentioning their 10 year warranty, signed the contract on 11/15/21 and it was installed by Miles 11/19/21 and we like the way he did the work and how he worked. Mid January 2022 we noticed a gap between a couple garage door panels (front of door only), we contacted them and on 1/25/22 Miles came out tried to adjust the door panels (it would not close up) and took pictures of the door and after that we received no response. Between that time and 7/11/22 we were dealing with some family issues but we called multiple times (not documented) with no call backs. Called on 7/11/22, a tech was sent out on 7/12/22 (Freddie) to review the door, he tried to adjust the panels like Miles did with no luck, said he was not sure what to do with it, took pictures and reported back to the office. I followed up on 7/14/22 and was told by Mike that was not under warranty and I would need to speak with Will (Santiago) the owner and he would have him call us when he returned from vacation on 7/19/22. I called on 7/22/22 following up since I did not get a call, Mike said he would have Will call me. Then calls on 7/26, 7/28, 7/29 with person answering phone for Mike (was on vacation) asking for Will to call me. Sent email to office@garagedoorgroup.com asking for resolution. Called on 8/1/22 Mike said he would have Will call me, left a VM on 8/2/22 Woodfield Garage door phone number no call back and as of this writing as we wait a resolution. It seems like Miles and Freddie do good / caring work. UPDATE 8/31/22 - After response from the owner finally on 8/8/22 here and phone call they were to send a quote for a new panel at the price they pay and have an installer come out to put the panel in. I sent a text possibly could save some time by switching panels since we do not know which one is possibly bad but no response to that. As of 8/31/22 I still have not received the at their cost quote for the panel. read more

He explained that he had been short-handed so that caused the delay in sending me a receipt. He promised to take care of this issue when he arrived in his office on Tuesday, June 1. I really like the way Will, the owner, does business. He wants to make sure his customers are happy. I called them after I stupidly backed into my garage one morning and my garage would no longer go down. They had a technician there on that same day, exactly when they said they would be there. They had my garage fixed within the hour. I felt that the technician was knowledgeable and helpful. I was a bit surprised because the price was higher than I was anticipating, but Will worked with me on that, too. He wanted to make sure that I was pleased with the service and the value. The only advice I would give is to make sure you get an estimate BEFORE the work gets done, so as not to have any surprises. Will said they almost always give estimates before performing the work, but in my case they couldn't without simply fixing the problem. read more

Additionally the owner sent a technician to temporarily open the garage door so that I could get my car out. I signed a contract with NorthShore Garage Doors June 6th to replace a one car garage door. The size was custom and I was told 6-8 weeks. Well it's now November 7th and the project is still incomplete. I do not recommend this business at all. I've been screamed at, hung up on and gotten the run around for the last 3 months. I'm seriously disgusted. At this point I'm going to have to start over. They took my old garage door off, partially completed the projected and I'm being told we're waiting for one panel. It's a shame I can't give them 0 stars. I had a terrible experience with this company, if you can call it that. As of last night my garage would not open. This morning (1/8) I called them for service. I was told that they were a well rated company with the BBB. I was told they would be at my home at 12. At 12:30 I called back and I was told it would be closer to 2. At 3 I was still waiting. I called and left a message. At 4 I was still waiting and called again. At 4:30, a service person showed up. He seemed totally unaware. He said he left me a message. The number he had called wasn't mine, no surprise. While I had been quoted a price when scheduling the appointment , the price the tech stated was about 20% more. That wasn't the worst of it....the tech dint have the needed parts to fix my garage. He said he was there to look at the problem, not solve it. I adjusted my schedule so as to be home....at noon, from 12-2... and then till he finally showed up at 4:30. Will, the owner, was very friendly and informative over the phone and helped me choose the proper insulated door for my application (heated garage. The fact that the performance and price of this door, installed, was only slightly higher than the purchase price of a similar door (Clopay) from Home Depot sealed the deal. Whats the catch? There isn't one, it actually gets better. Miles was the technician who came to do the door installation (on time), he was friendly and knowledgeable, and made extra efforts to make sure that my door was well seated as to not let in daylight/air into my heated garage. I found this company through an app I've used a few times to find repair professionals. In my past experiences with this professional technician service, the repair technician/facility has always provided me with an estimate if they were to provide services, then you add the parts, etc., with North Shore Garage Doors that was not the case. They claim their email stated that the $69 they charged me was a "service call" and that was just not the case. The technician arrived, hit the garage door opener and said, I know what is the problem, you need a new system. So basically I paid $69 for someone to tell me I need a new unit, not for a "repair" estimate, repairing it was not an option as he claimed parts were too hard to find. It took longer for the technician to give my credit card information to the owner of the company over the phone than for the him to even attempt to give me an estimate on a possible repair. I decided not to do business with this company, I sent them a text message, and their response was not to my liking. They prefer to make a couple of bucks than make a potential future customer happy. I called two other places, they sent their technicians and got two estimates, at no charge! At the end I decided the repair would be the most time.cost effective, so got a new system, and he offered to do it on the spot. The final price was $200 cheaper than what North Shore Garage Doors quoted me, even after adding the gift of $69 dollars I gave them. read more

Spring broke in my garage door. I called at 4pm and they offered to have someone here within an hour--wow! I opted to set an appointment for the following day between 2-4pm. My schedule changed, and I informed them I could be available earlier, and they were here in 45 minutes of that call. Technician was professional and fast. Cost was competitive and work high quality. Very prompt and knowledgeable but sneaky and ultimately very poor value. Service technician sales oriented - made sure I knew of good-better-best options (least to most expensive) - which is fine because they are a business and need to make money but our financial situation is tight (couldn't find work for two years so now going back to school to get a masters at age 62 = four years with zero income) which I explained and I went with good (cheapest option) - to replace burned out motor on one of two doors. Did a great job had me come down to check it out. Asked me to open close repaired door and it ran very smoothly and much quieter than before. Awesome. Then told me to open and close other garage door and it was very noisy in comparison. Then asked if I wanted to pay to have that one tuned up too. Thought about it and finally said yes when he pointed out that another visit would entail an additional service call fee. Tune up cost $125. It literally took him five minutes at most and it was slightly quieter than before when I came down to test it (this time he didn't suggest it). When I politely challenged it - $125 for five minutes of work with minimal result - he said it was because it needed a new motor! Tipped him $15 - why? I don't know. Probably because I am an idiot. So I came home last Sunday, parked my car in the garage, closed the door, entered my house, ...and then I heard a BANG! My spring on the garage door broke, so I decided to replace the old heavy wood door rather than just replace the spring, for the umpteenth time. Early Monday morning I received a call from "Mike" who sent me a brochure via e-Mail. I made my choice and then I spoke with "Frank" who gave me the pricing. I explained that I needed a quick installation because my old door was broken and inoperable. I was promised installation the next day. The invoice and contract was executed right at that moment , online. About an hour later a technician was at my home taking measurements. This morning I received a phone call from "Mike" who told me the technician had arrived. A lone installer named "Tim" who was "masked" and extremely courteous arrived well within my promised time window. He was also quite skilled. He proceeded to remove the old door efficiently and made the installation. Within 48 hours, from my initial outreach, I have a new beautiful garage door with terrific curb appeal. I had previously had North Shore install a heavy 16 foot garage door, and their technician (Don) did a great job, so when I needed to have installed a new opener, I called them and was able to get an appointment within days. My technician was Joe, and let me state how friendly, cooperative, clean, and competent he is; he is also incredibly fast and knowledgeable about openers and garage doors. He arrived on time and explained to me everything he was doing, even helping me to set up the MyQ application, so that I can open the garage door using my smartphone. He never rushed to get on to the next job; instead, he took the time to help me understand how the whole system worked, when to lubricate parts, how MyQ works, etc. Now I have a belt-drive opener that works and looks great, and is a lot quieter than my old chain-drive.
