That's what I loved most about her program-- she truly personalizes her lessons to fit your progress. One of her best skills is that she is acutely in tune with your form, comfort level, and confidence. She is so good at understanding how the human body interacts with the horse so when you're learning the fundamentals, you're learning it from an almost anatomical perspective. I originally started out at a different equestrian center but the instructor there made me feel anxious and unsure every time. I carried a lot of that over to Julie's lessons where I had to unlearn a lot of bad habits. In my almost year of riding under her guidance, I've learned proper techniques and gained back my confidence. Julie has the innate ability to make you feel safe and secure when riding. I love that she teaches to build confidence so you can master the technical skills. If you are ever thinking about horseback riding but scared to try it, get a lesson with Julie. Over the course of the last few months I have been able to learn so much from Crystal and Gina it is amazing. They are so professional and competent in their approach that you cannot help but become a better rider. Lessons are well planned for the beginner (young and old) that includes the basics of not only riding but caring for the horse. If you do not want to know everything you possibly can about horses and riding then this isn't for you! They are generous with the time and knowledge. They encourage riders to come and observe other, more advanced equestrians during coaching sessions which are so very helpful in developing your own skills. Crystal has been a terrific instructor for me and I have had the opportunity to observe her with some very young riders and she is great-patient and methodical. I texted EquiFabula and Beany responded right back. She was very nice and accommodating for our request of a private horseback riding lesson. The lesson was for our family friend that is a 10 year old girl who had never been on a horse before. Beany asked her height and weight and experience and let me know she had the perfect horse. We arranged a time and date. Before our appointment Beany confirmed and sent us some paperwork and waivers to sign. This was great so that we could spend more time with the animals when we arrived. When we arrived, we were greeted by a beautiful property nestled in the Castro valley hills. The property is big and well kept. Beany let us through the gate and we parked by the stables. Beany asked if we would like to see some of the animals on the property. We had a wonderful time meeting 2 week old bunnies, chickens, a baby possum, chinchilla, and guinea pigs. It was a wonderful surprise that we didn't expect. After we finished seeing the various animals for half an hour we met Mona the unicorn! Our family friend learned how to brush Mona and take care of her. She was then fitted with riding gear and started her lesson. Beany walked with them the entire way and was a wonderful teacher. She learned how to trot with the horse, steer, and all about the basics of riding a horse. This experience couldn't have been better and Beany was a 5 star teacher. Emma can sometimes be hesitant with new things and needs a little time to trust herself, but Kate has such a wonderful way of meeting her where she is while still gently encouraging her to do more than she thinks she can. Very quickly, riding became a place where Emma seemed to come out of her shell. She found confidence, independence, and, most importantly, so much joy in working with horses. She was also lucky enough to attend one of Kate's summer camps. She started camp still riding on a lead and, by the end of the week, was trotting independently. I remember being amazed by how much confidence she had gained in just those few days. Since then she has continued to progress and is now confidently cantering -- something that would have felt hard to imagine when she first started. What I especially appreciate about Kate is that she is not simply teaching kids how to ride. Every single session includes horsemanship. She shares her incredible knowledge of horses, teaches the kids how to understand and care for them, and makes sure they develop respect for the animal rather than just learning the mechanics of riding. For Emma, this has become about so much more than horseback riding. It is one of those rare activities where we can actually see her confidence growing in real time. She is proud of herself, excited to learn, and completely at home around the horses. Kate has given her such a special gift, and we truly cannot recommend her highly enough.
