Once upon a time, it was the ultimate goal of any Glaswegian amateur footballer to play on pitches with floodlights. If they had floodlights AND a changing room? Well, you'd made it.
So in other words, there was a place for North Kelvinside pitches, 20 years ago.
But come on, we're in 2010 now and while I appreciate the fight local residents put up to prevent developers building flats on the vast land, what good are a dozen or so grafitti-filled, red ash pitches with full-size goals?
Although they are still used by a handful of local clubs, generally speaking the lure of grazed knees and elbows is not enough to divert the youth of the surrounding areas away from their PS3s and the pitches are often lying empty.
