I know there's more to Emirates than that, but I feel like I've properly experienced sporting events here and the arena. And wow, it is amazing. It's new, shiny, clean and pretty industrial looking but without an unpleasant cold feeling to it. The events I've been to here are well organised, there are always lots of staff around who are friendly and helpful. On our most recent visit we got a Clyde souvenir for my nephew back in Australia from the gift shop, the guy working there was really friendly and had good chat. I didn't even mind that they don't have card facilities here yet (it's been open at least 6 months) so you get your card put through the old-school manual machines. It made me laugh to be honest, I did feel sorry for him though as he seemed a bit embarrassed. The velodrome has great seating and is a brilliant place to watch cycling - a sport I previously had no interest in whatsoever, but we thought we'd head along to check it out. The basketball is also really good and has great facilities for disabled seating, you still get a really great view even though you're at the back on the top level. The food and drink is reasonably priced too, not like most other sporting events you go to. I can't wait for the Commonwealth Games and will be vying for tickets to as many events as possible, especially here at the Emirates. I noticed when we were leaving the cycling that they had buses to take people back into town. I have no idea if these are free, but they must be quite handy as Emirates could be difficult to get to otherwise (unless by car). Looking at the website, there is also a Glasgow Life gym here and a spa. It pretty much has everything ... apart from card facilities and a cash machine!

I was also lucky enough to get tickets to the velodrome during the commonwealth games (where we saw sir Chris Hoy, I couldn't take my eyes of his thighs ) I was warned before going about the extreme temperatures and wore light clothing and took a fan, which was much needed. It was an amazing experience, I didn't have a clue of the rules but it was exhilarating to watch and believe me the New Zealand team in lycra was an added treat.. Would highly recommend.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I was lucky enough to visit this stadium shortly after it opened, in 2000. Then I was here again in 2011, and I have to say they let it go a little bit in just 11 years. It needs a bit of a clean up and some more fans to fill it on match days. One of these days I'll experience a full live game here, but it's definitely not a great stadium and has an artificial pitch. However the Airdrie fans make quite a ruckus. So when I was doing my first tour of Scotland in 2011, I also hit up every single stadium in the country. My obsession with footy (soccer to Americans) is the reason. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are based on first-hand personal experience, usually from multiple visits. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to most of them yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at many of them, which I will post later. Also, when back in Scotland I plan to take more pix, and add more stadia! So watch this space! *** return to regular review *** The stadium has hosted Airdrie teams since 1998, and is known as New Broomfield to some. It has an artificial pitch. Queens Park played here for awhile. It's new and modern and fancy and a lot of people say it has no atmosphere. It's a lot bigger than a lot of Scottish stadiums. It hosted Motherwell's European adventures recently.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - watching Stenhousemuir at Ochilview was something I always wanted to do. I finally experienced it in 2011, and it was a bit underwhelming. I think because only half of the 4k capacity was filled, and it was a bit quiet. It was a dour 0-1 loss, and the stadium never really generated much noise. I still enjoyed the experience and will give this old, legendary facility a solid 3 star rating. I came back to take pix in Fall 2014 and will upload those at some point. What I don't like, is the plastic pitch. Makes the whole thing seem a bit more amateur. It has a plastic pitch, and only half of the stadium is actually in use for spectators. It's not a bad little stadium, and since it's so helpful to other local clubs I'll give it a 3.

Similarly, if you are a SeaLion and you do cool things to impress onlookers, then you do SealTricks. But seriously, Celtic is one of the great teams of the whole world, let alone the UK. The biggest club in Scotland on every level, playing in a palace of a 60k stadium, which includes a Graveyard so hardcore fans can be buried here! That's how much Celtic means. First-Hand Experience: this is my fave club in Scotland, and one of my 10 fave clubs in the world. I've seen them live at this stadium many times, I've also seen them away from home at Anfield (Liverpool), other Scottish clubs, and even in Cleveland Browns Stadium facing Boca Juniors. I can't really count the number of times I've watched them play but it's been around a dozen or more. Most recently was 2014. They're a wonderful club with wonderful fans. Being inside Celtic Park is one of the best stadium experiences for any fan anywhere. Plus they are linked to my fave team Liverpool in many ways and to my mother's homeland of Ireland. So they mean a lot to me. Watching them is a religious experience - and yes that is an in-joke. Since religion is so heavily linked to this club and Rangers. Celtic (pronounced Seyll-takk in the local accent, and never Kel-tic, ever) are bitter rivals of Rangers, and the religious element means the hatred runs deep. The Irish were always the outcasts and underdogs but when it comes to football they are the big boy. Rangers has won more Scottish League titles, but Celtic is bigger in every other way. They play in famous green and white hoops. The stadium is in the rough East End of town. I had a gun pointed at me outside their stadium. Since their first game in 1888, they have never been relegated, which is very impressive, especially now that Rangers were demoted and so Celtic are the only team not to be relegated. They have won the Scottish League 46 times and are the current champs. They're within 10 of Rangers' record. They've won the Scottish Cup 36 times and the League Cup 15 times. In 1967 they amazingly became the first British team to win the European Cup, with Manchester United, Liverpool (4 times in a few years) and Nottingham Forest following suit within a decade or so. They were runners up in the 1970 European Cup and in the 2003 UEFA Cup, meaning they have reached 3 major European finals, winning one. In 67 they had beaten Inter Milan in the final, whereas in 70 they lost to Feyenoord at the San Siro. Their greatest managers include Martin O'Neill who got them to the UEFA Cup Final, and Neil Lennon who got Celtic to a few Champions League knockout phases. Celtic's club magazine is the oldest in the football world, from 1965. There are supposedly 9 million Celtic fans around the world including 1 million in the US and Canada. Like Liverpool, they sing "You'll Never Walk Alone" before every game, and they never will.

Having been to football grounds as famous as Anfield, Old Trafford, the Nou Camp, etc, I can certainly state that Celtic Park is on a par with any of these places. What sets it apart is the 5 star atmosphere created by the supporters who are known for producing the noise to help push the team over the line during important matches. Get yourself along to a match to sample the atmosphere, a champions league match is particularly recommended if you can get a ticket. Alternatively you can do the museum tour. I have done it a few times now with friends who have come to visit Glasgow. You get to hear about the famous history of Celtic and see parts of the stadium you normally would not have access to.

The legend Barry Ferguson is the manager. Oh how the mighty have fallen. First-Hand Experience: I saw Clyde play at Partick, but never at their home stadium. They lost, of course. I think it's a great little team with a very old history, but I don't have much of a connection to them and they don't have a large fan base... and they relocated, which doesn't sit well with me. Their nickname is the Bully Wee. How f***ing awesome is that. In my world, this is how you Bully Wee: "oi, you f***ing stupid f***ing p*ss, get the f**k in the toilet, or I'll f***ing make you sorry." They play in white and their third kit (giggle) is pink (giggle). My favourite colour, and Aerosmith's. They have an insanely long Wiki page and have somehow managed to win the Scottish Cup three times, in 39, 55 and 58, and for these reasons I'll give them four stars. Except that they relocated out of their burb into a "new town" 10 miles out of Glasgow for financial reasons. So for that reason they lose a star. They might lose 2 stars if not for the fact that they beat Roy Keane's Celtic on his debut for them which was so f***ing awesome.

Unfortunately these days the Bully Wee (strangest nickname in Scottish football?) fail to command the respect in the game they once did and lost a lot of support following the move from Glasgow to Cumbernauld. A hardcore continue to turn up through thick and thin, but with their Legoland stadium hardly lending itself to an electric atmosphere, being a Clyde fan has been something of a laborious task over the past few seasons. They've had their moments in recent years, none bigger than the spoiling of Roy Keane's Celtic debut with a shock 2-1 victory. However given they are currently struggling at the wrong end of the second division, it could be some time before the fans see their club back to where they belong, namely the first division.

It was a really nice stadium, and not one that I'd ever think would have been destroyed. But that is exactly what happened. It has a Safeway on its grave now. My experience here was quite memorable. It was the only stadium that I ever "sneaked into" with a parent. They told me never to do it again, and it was a one off just because a gate was open. Little did they know I'd done it before, and would go on to do it hundreds of times again. I loved it in here! I think it was more fun because of who I was with. Usually I'd do it alone, or with friends who were scared. I can't really explain it. Anyway, the stadium itself - didn't seem as run down or decrepit as other stadiums that would later be demolished. It was a surprise to me, but not tot the fans anyway. *** return to regular review *** This stadium was, for 102 years, the heartbeat of the Airdrieonians, and then it was demolished and they moved away. It was sold to Safeway and now, surprise surprise, is a Safeway. I wonder if the fans that shop there, think of their old stadium the whole time. It had a distinctive lovely Red and White Pavilion on the corner of the field which was a bit like the cottage at Craven Cottage. It once held 24k but at closing it was closer to 12k.

I go back and forth on whether or not I like this set up, and have decided that I don't like it. It's akin to where you'd sit if you were at the ice capades, or a hockey match.
