I have been living in Capitol Hill for about 3 years now. North Hill mall is my go-to location for their Safeway. Dollarama, winners, and the food court. It's in walking distance from my house, so super convenient! However, I'm a bit frustrated about something that has occurred to me TWICE at the mall within the past two months.... There are a TON of homeless people that hang around there; and that's fine, I'm happy that during these cold months, they're able to be some place warm, but I was in line to get taco time, and a homeless man approached me asking if I could buy him some food. I felt so bad! Like he must have been so hungry, so I agreed. I told him to order himself something and I'd pay for it. I was Expecting him to order himself a meal, but he literally ordered $45 worth of food...that to me, is insanely disappointing. Someone is helping you out and you take advantage like that? Then, a couple months later, I'm in line at Tim Horton's ordering myself a hot chocolate, and a homeless man asks me if I could buy him something. This time, I was like I am MAKING sure this person is ordering something reasonable, so i saw what he ordered, and approved it..he just got an ice cap and a donut...but then, he takes his food items and walks away. No thank you or anything. Honestly, I'm not helping these people out anymore..there are TONS of resources in the city where these people can go to get food.. read more

We have lived near this mall since the 1980's and it has continued to go downhill... The last experience is puncturing the sidewall of a tire on the our car by the real estate office across from the C train. The configuration of the parking lot is a mess(has been for years) and the curbs have sharp edges from vehicles hitting them(crumbling)....had to drive to Kal Tire 500 yards away with a flat tire which had to be replaced....response from the mall was basically to sue them. read more

The fact that this mall has to have paid parking just floors me! I parked there to take a senior shopping for shoes and found the machine at the entry to not be working. I don't believe that it is my responsibility to find another machine so I could tell it I was in the car park for the 2 free hours. The Mall only opens at 10 am and we arrived about 10:30 and left at 11:20. Found a ticked to $70 on my window when we arrived back at the car (with a notice that it would jump to $90 if not paid in 10 days. That's more than it costs to park downtown. I don't care what stores are in that mall, i WILL NOT ever go back there! read more

How is this mall still open? The parking isn't ideal and after a few attempts found a spot. During the week, mid afternoon there should be plenty of parking. Had to kill a bit of time since I had an appointment near by so thought I would spend an hour here shopping. The stores were a bit of a disappointment. Not allot of variety at all. Allot of stores are ones that I wouldn't normally even go to at a mall but had no choice here. The saving grace at this mall, really is the food court. Even though its small, it does have a variety (Thai. A&W, Chinese, KFC, Second cup etc) This mall really needs to be renovated since its stuck in the 90's. Maybe even 80's? They also need some better stores since I wasn't even tempted to spend money at any of them. That is a sad day when I am at a mall and not a thing to buy. Wont be back! North Hill Centre is definitely one of those malls that gets little love, and there are reasons for it. Like others have pointed out, parking is terrible, and the retail businesses are really only notable for supplying the basics. The selection runs to geriatric in a lot of stores (it's not just the Sears, Moez!), and the whole thing is kind of shabby looking. This is not a mall to visit if you're looking for high fashion, nor when you're in the mood to do some serious shopping. However, I would say that there are a few things in North Hill's favour. As Sapna notes, it's right off the train line, as well as one of the major thoroughfares in Calgary (16th Ave), and this makes it one of the most convenient shopping centres in the city to get to. Secondly, it's got a very simple floor plan - just one long stretch of stores with a couple of side entrances - and this makes finding a particular shop really easy; there's almost no way that you're going to get confused or turned around in this mall. It also has all the staples you need, without any of the distractions - you can just pop in and out, no fuss, without being tempted to window-shop (or impulse buy). Businesses I would recommend within North Hill Centre are: the Safeway (very well stocked), San Francisco Gifts (one of the only locations in the city), Ardene (cleaner, and with a better inventory than most other locations), the food court (like Moez said, it's decent), and Crimson Lingerie (great service and lots of sexy, if expensive, items). read more

If you're looking for the trendiest shops and tons of variety, this really isn't the place for you. However, if you have some extra time, or you live close by, this might be the place for you. Some of the better stores are the vehicle registry, Shopper's Drug Mart, Purdy's, Safeway, Jugo Juice and Coles. There are also some eclectic finds like a store devoted to knives and a Canadian souvenir store. The food court is pretty good with spots like Koryo, Mrs. Vanelli's, Opa, Orange Julius and A & W. It's nice that this mall is quieter than other malls. read more

The parking situation at this mall is crazy. You can't even find a spot on a weekday afternoon. I know that's not their busy time, but they have to start cracking down on the people who park there to hop the train across the street downtown. This mall isn't the finest in the city, but it does have everything you need from Safeway to an old out-dated Sears to a few other shops that are of convenience. If you live in the area, the mall will do for everyday needs. But really, they have to do something about the parking situation there. And a better selection in the food court would help. read more

I come here when I visit my dentist (Avenue 14 Dental Studio). The food court is okay, it even has a Korean BBQ place (Koryo). There's an EB Games, so not everything is just for seniors (unless they're gamers). I haven't been in the Sears in ages. As others noted, it's conveniently located along the C-train line and a lot of buses go through 14th Ave. If you live in the condo towers attached to the mall, you can even get all your shopping done without venturing outside. I love North Hill Mall as a local. It's a mall designed for one stop shopping for the family. It has Safeway, Shoppers, Winners, Pet Valu, EB Games, Source, World Health and my favourite Angles Hair and Aethetics. It took me three years to find a stylist I just felt good with and Saad at Angles has the years of experience to cut, colour and style in an awesome time frame while making sure people notice and ask 'where did you get your hair done'. This mall is a practical busy persons mall so you can get it all done without running all over the city. read more

I lived a few minutes from this mall for over 3 years. And to be honest, I didn't know it existed until about a year after moving here. It's small, the stores are nothing fantastic, and the parking is a mess. Of course, the parking isn't really their fault. Despite attempts to stop it, many people park at the mall and catch the train across the street. North Hill Centre has a lot of professional offices, and I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually move towards becoming a professional centre and eliminate the stores altogether. It appears the majority of traffic is for those professional services or the food court. I've never seen that mall busy otherwise. As mentioned before, the store selection is pretty lacking. Nothing jumps out as being unique or essential here, so my visits are usually for my dentist, the food court, or The Source, which recently closed. The Sears here is weird. Aside from looking like it hasn't changed since the 70s, I found that the clothing here is directed to a much older audience (more so than any other Sears). It could just be my imagination, but every time I've gone in, I've noticed clothes not seen since the 80s. I will say this though, the food court is pretty decent. It has A&W, Dairy Queen, Edo, and Opa amongst a few others. Really, what more could you ask for? read more

For a mall that is right on the C Train line, I would have expected this mall to be more user friendly. This is partially because it isn't designed well. It's a big, long hallway essentially. Some stores cannot be accessed from the inside and the signage is confusing at best. Even maps of the mall are scarce. The stores that inhabit the mall are nothing to write home about, with HMV, Shoppers Drug Mart, a souvenir store and Sears being among the establishments inside. Considering the location, on the C-Train, close to SAIT etc. this mall could and should be so much more. read more

North Hill Mall has been around FOREVER and I hate to say it, but I'm pretty surprised. I mean the location is definitely prime - SAIT and 16th Ave are right next door, and the train even stops right in front of the mall - but for a lot of the reasons that Moez T. mentioned, it's just not a popular mall. It's one of the only malls in the city that has yet to be renovated. Plus the stores inside aren't anything to write home about. I've seen a lot of turnover in the stores that are here, and speaking of the stores, there aren't any here that you can't find at a bigger, better and newer mall in the city. As always, I'm being straight up with you. In no way, shape or form am I a fan of this mall and to be quite honest, I don't know a whole lotta folk who are. read more

This mall is set up a bit weird, there are stores like Petcetera and Mark's Work Warehouse that you can't get to from within the main mall (you have to go outside). Previously I've only gone into the Safeway and Petcetera, but I had to meet someone here and was surprised to see a huge food court (Koryo, Opa, Edo, etc) and scattered along the mall are some independent clothing stores along with Le Chateau, Payless Shoes, Ardene's and Stitches. It's right by the Lion's Gate train station so it's easily accessible and has some restaurants (Ricky's and Chili's), along with a registry, plethora of medical and dental services, a Shopper's Drug Mart as well as a World Health Gym. Although this isn't a top preferred mall, I wouldn't object to passing some time wandering around here again. read more

My mother and her sister went to Sears and were rewarded with a $60 ticket. Aside from the fact that they were parked in a handicapped parking spot, legitimately, they have been going to Sears since the early 60s and never noticed any signage. I've been going to North Hill Mall for over 27 years - way back when the bowling alley was there and the worst Zellers in the city. I was there the other day, parking where I always park whether I'm going to Telus or Safeway. I was there for not even a half hour and came out to find a parking ticket! What?? Imagine my surprise when after all these years, I now have to pay to shop at Safeway. Not impressed - it's a crappy mall anyways and I'll be returning everything that I purchased at the mall that day due to this. I won't be going there again for anything. read more

Aug 3, 2016 I am from out of town and hadn't been to this mall in 2 or 3 years. I brought my teenage daughter to shop here for a change of scenery instead of Chinook Mall (free parking) where she usually likes to shop. Not only did we find very little of interest, but, after 90 mins in the mall, we found a $60 parking ticket on our windshield which goes up to $85 if unpaid in a few days. We had parked in the 3/4 empty Sears parking lot and walked across the parking lot into the main mall doors. We hadn't noticed the paid parking signs high on the light posts. What a joke. I got a indigo parking ticket $65 bucks for shopping at sears on Sat Dec 11, 2016. Not in a million years I think that I have to register my plate number before I go shopping here. It was -28C, you found a parking space, and dashed insite the building to keep warm. Came out and saw a ticket on the windshield. I was fuming. NEVER GO BACK TO THAT SHOPPING MALL !!! I bet you forgot this place even existed! Well look out Calgary, because it's here and it's... well... it's doing what it's always been doing, I guess. It's here, anyway. I think it helps counteract the tucked in black polo management makes him wear quite nicely. All I know is when I walk by, I want to buy an oversized Santoku from THAT guy. There's almost nothing in the way of men's fashion at this mall. Sorry, there's a Mark's and a Moore's, Intersport, Stiches and Sears. So... There's almost nothing in the way of men's fashion at this mall! North Hill Mall has always felt to me like a Safeway grocery store with a bunch of other stuff attached. Like they were never certain what the building should be, but over the decades, as tastes in shopping styles shifted, they just sort of went with it and built something new. Keep in mind, this is solely my impression and doesn't necessarily include such extraneous materials like "the facts". It feels like back in the day of department stores when our grandmothers ruled the retail world they kept up with all that was hip and/or happenin' and built themselves a SEARS. Hot diggity! As time went on, the dinosaurs started to die and consumers preferences shifted to being able to easily access a large number of smaller boutique stores, each curated by entirely different owners and operators and VOILA! Let's like totally build a mall! Enter the mid 90's - Gas is cheap, Alberta is booming, and everyone (everyone.) drives an SUV. The retail landscape is dominated by Costco and Walmart and bigger is most definitely better . Why walk a mall when you can drive through it?! Better slap on a a giant Mark's (Work Warehouse), some big print store (used to be a Kinkos until they disappeared) a giant pet store (Pet-Cetera maybe?)... Ooh! And some of those hot restaurants you see at all the upcoming Big Box centres like "Crowfoot Crossing! You mean a Ricky's and a Chilli's? Yup! That'll do. Alright boys, let's call 'er a day. I by no means dislike North Hill Mall. In some ways I love it like that awkward friend who's still stuck in his teen years trying to find himself and you know that when he discovers who he is, he'll be just fine. read more

The only mall I've ever been to that you get fined $65.00 to park to shop there! The parking lot should be fenced off to show where free parking ends and pay parking starts. What a scam! Especially at Christmas when the parking lot is jammed full. Won't ever be back! read more

If I could give it zero star I would. I went there two days before Christmas and parked in the northeast end of the parking lot, facing 16 Ave. I came out after shopping only to find a $65-parking notice, left by WestPark for parking in their lot. It's a freaking shopping centre, they wanted shoppers to pay to park there? There was no signs on that side of the parking lot that indicated it was paid parking. I even took pictures, 50 meters left and right from my car, the only signs there were directions to city centre and SAIT main campus. The parking notice gave no information on the possibility to appeal and when I called the number on the back of the notice, my calls were forwarded to a "call centre" that wouldn't take calls. I left numerous messages asking them to call me back but of course they never did. The notice said I must pay $65 within 10 days or the charge would go up to $100. If failed to pay they would send out collection agencies after us and ruin our credit scores. WestPark used a trap and scare tactic to intimidate unsuspected shoppers. I contacted North Hill shopping centre management but they said they had nothing to do with it and there was nothing they could do about it. If you don't want your day or holidays ruined, STAY AWAY from that place. The idea of making shoppers pay for parking is ridiculous enough. Allowing bullies like WestPark to treat citizens with threats and harassment is totally unacceptable. DO NOT EVER GO THERE! read more

Went shopping at Sear and parked outside at night on Dec 13 2016 at 7:05 pm received a parking ticket for 65.00 dollars for 1 hours parking it was cold and dark on that side of the lot, did not read signs as was free before. Parking lot was empty and went in to shop. I'm not paying for this ticket and will never shop at that mall again. read more

I have never been a mall in Calgary you need to register your parking before you enter. The Indigo parking company is justing robbing people. Many people like me are not familiar with the parking rule in this place and got a $65 ticket. Even you just shopped there and only stop by for half hour. The parking staff was very rude and will use coarse language towards people. I was watching him when I got the ticket and he gave away 5 tickets from about 15 cars, that means many people are not familiar with this strange parking rules. The parking company just is making a lot of money from that! Never go to North Hill Centre to shop again! read more

I like the North Hill Mall. Being small can be an advantage. You can get in and out without spending a lot of time there. And the parking is bad in spots, but there is always a lot of parking just east of Sears, and the turn over is good in front of Shoppers (my preferred spot). I live and work close by so I go there a lot. The Shoppers is my go-to drug store, and there is a small Coles bookstore right across the aisle. Many of the bigger malls don't have bookstores any more. The Safeway is great, and it has a Starbucks. I have bought several items from Crimson lingerie, high end preschool toy store, a board game/puzzle store, EB Games, Dainia Down bedding, Laura Secord and some decent shoe stores. In the winter -they have a calendar store and Singing Santa. The Sears is good for kids clothes but I haven't liked much for me except for shoes, purses and lingerie. I am going there now, to look for a boys spring jacket - all the trendy stores have already sold out. It just warmed up, folks! read more

Sorry to see fewer stores in the mall. Good place to go if you don't want to wander around a huge mall. We are from BC, came for a medical appointment. Decided to go to Sears, found what we were looking for on sale. Made the purchase, got back to our car to find a $60 parking ticket, then we noticed the signage about having to register our vehicle in order to get 2 hours free parking. Guess it is true that people don't read signs. Lesson learned. Now we know why there was so much room to park in front of Sears. $60 really?? This is a really run down mall that is a hang out for seniors and weirdos. The food court has some descent choices but almost all retail stores are of no use. I hope they clean it up because it is really run down in comparison to other malls. read more

Just finished a nasty call with Indigo parking thugs about the extortionist parking ticket given to me on a busy Christmas week-end. I was parked in front of Chili went to Marks to pick up ice tread boots. I am temporarily handicap, due to a recent medial collateral ligament tear in my knee from slipping on the ice, it make it very terrible to walk in best conditions. I was in the mall 10 minutes came back to my car and the parking vultures had swooped and given me a $65 ticket which goes up to $85 in 10 days. There has been talk the mall has been planned for redevelopment, so they figure on ripping off customers is good business practice before bull dozing, good strategy Sears & Indigo and thank your useless politicians for his one. Rot in hell Indigo, I shall never surrender! I will fight this injustice till the end of days, people pick up your phones & computers talk,tweet and text, contact your politicians, media, mall owners and VIP'S.....stop this foolish unethical business practice.
