Can't wait to go back. Come as a stranger and you'll leave as if you were part of their family…read more Amazing food and the owners have found a special place in my heart forever.

Haley Farm Bed and Breakfast and Retreat Center is a sweet, unpretentious, comfortable, homey place…read moreto stay. It is neither fancy, nor fussy and if you are looking for an Inn at Little Washington type place with expensive antiques and well-appointed spaces, you will be a bit disappointed. But this is rural Maryland, so go with the right attitude and expectations and you will love it. The couple who runs Haley Farm are down-to-earth, sincere and friendly without ever being intrusive. It is very much like staying at your favorite Aunt's house; she busies herself cooking and cleaning and fixin' for you, but she's always happy to set down her apron or dusting cloth and have a nice, long chat. The many, many animals who live on Haley Farm are no slouches either; they start your stay with a hearty welcome and a willingness to let anyone hold them, pet them and feed them. They are quite adorable and no small part of the charm there. Haley Farm would not be so very Haley Farm without them. The breakfast is delicious and bonus, there's a frig upstairs for the guests in case you need both brownies *AND* cheetos *AND* a coke at 2 a.m. which we did. You can also keep your own stash of wine in there, or whatever else you need refrigerated. When I think about Haley Farm, I think of the classic Americana cross-stich, "Home, Sweet, Home." And if you think of it that way too, instead of trying to compare it to more urban venues, you will really relax and feel like part of the family there.

Staying here on previous cross-country excursions has proven a double-edged sword for us. We love…read morethe accomodations and the innkeepers, but on our recent trip we chose to stay someplace else because we don't have a 4 wheel drive vehicle and feared getting stuck trying to drive out of their rather long snow-covered driveway. Both times we stayed last year we had to rely on the owners for a tow to the road. Mind you we have a front wheel drive Saab Aero, so you'd think the Swedes would have designed a car that could drive through snow, but the snows last year were just too deep and we weren't willing to chance it again. That being said, this was a great place to stay, especially the time we got upgraded to the bigger of their two rooms. (The third accomodation is a a cabin for families.) We've stayed in both rooms. The bigger room is expansive with vaulted ceilings, a king size bed, a full size kitchen, and a modular sofa; the smaller room has a small size refrigerator, microwave and a small table and chairs. Part of the fun of getting snowed in on our first visit when we got upgraded was getting to the grocery store after our skiing and then making a comfort food dinner of meatloaf, baked potatoes, and oven braised cabbage for ourselves as the snow fell. The meal became hearty skiers' lunches of meatloaf sandwiches the next day and the cabbage became soup. Breakfast is always the fun part of staying at a B&B and here it consists of a precooked meal wrapped in plastic and placed in the fridge to reheat in the microwave the next morning. It certainly tasted better than my description sounds. For anyone like us who likes to recreate in the state parks, the owners will provide you a Maryland state park pass for free park access during your stay. Waters Run is located on a beautiful piece of property way off the beaten path. If you've got the right vehicle, it's a great place to stay in the winter and any other time of the year I'm sure.

The host, Sadie is very welcoming. We were provided with a generous breakfast with homemade bread,…read morequiche, yogurt parfaits, and crisp. Also, there was fresh apple juice. The suite is very cute and well-decorated. There was a friendly fat cat and a dog on the property.
