Liked it here. Is this luxury? Nope. Is there WiFi everywhere? No again. Okay there's slow WiFi near the check in cabin, but forget the internet. Here you are away from the city, and close to amazing settings. Seeing the stars at night here, is truly an amazing experience! You can tent camp or rent a cabin. There are different sized cabins. My son and I went with the small one. It's basic but comfortable beds. Being next to the stream and trees is relaxing. Camp employee was friendly, and saw lots of beauty here and close by. Only complaint is shower house had no hot water. Yet every campground has its quirks, and am happy to recommend this place. read more

This is a stunning hemlock forest alongside a creek on top of a mountain. I stayed in a camping cabin and had a marvelous time.

I absolutely loved staying at Abrams Creek Campground! the campsite we stayed at was right on the creek and it was awesome hearing the running water and the popping of the freezing ice at night. Our campsite was flat with plenty of room to set up the tent and wood stove. Our hosts were very accommodating and let us know where we could get fuel in the area. 10 out of 10 experience. Next time I'm in the area for camping I'll stay there again! read more

Ignore my rating as I am giving the retreat cottage 0 stars. We rented this cabin to spend friday and saturday night in as we drove over 5 hours here to visit family. The place was disgusting. It reeked of what smelled like cat pee. We noticed all the windows were open and most of them we could not get to shut. It was just my fiance and I, plus our 2 dogs. The bedding smelled like it hadn't been washed in months. We wanted to just enjoy our time with our family so we tried to over look it. When we got back to the cabin friday night, we decided to sleep on the couches because the beds were disgusting. We had to borrow blankets from our family, to lay on because even the couches smelled awful. We were freezing all night because most of the windows were still open. When I went to get a shower the next morning, there was a bar of soap in there that was used and had hair all over it. Ewww! Plus the nobs on the shower kept falling off every few minutes. At least the water was hot. At that point we were over it. After getting back Saturday night from visiting with family we decided we could not spend another night there. We made the 6 hour driver home and opted to sleep in our car at a rest stop rather than have to spend another second in that "cottage." The description said rustic... It should have been labeled as unclean, and smells like mildew. At this point I realize I should have read the reviews. One person that stayed there 2 years ago said they found about 2 feet of raw sewage in the basement and mold!! That probably explains the HORRIBLE smell that even the open windows couldn't air out. Considering it looks like they don't clean it, that probably didn't help the smell. I also forgot to mention the MICE POOP that was all over the cabin. read more

We rented Cabin A here and it was repulsive. The pictures on the booking website were not at all what the actual cabin looked like. We also saw a picture on the booking website of what the bathroom should look like and this was also falsely advertised as we found the exact same picture under a different campground in Maryland. This was very disappointing as we had to make last minute changes. This place is a hazard with loose insulation hanging a few inches from where you sleep. It was so dirty it did not look like it was cleaned regularly, and there was a mousetrap on the picnic table outside. I'm sorry to give such a bad review but I believe this place is falsely advertised and wish we would have known this before booking. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. My family rented 4 cabins on the property over the weekend and when I say we were disappointed that is an understatement! The retreat cottage which is the most expensive cottage on the property was not up to standards. The floors are falling in and very uneven. The building and furniture are so outdated it is ridiculous! But honestly that can be overlooked we knew we were coming somewhere rustic. The worst part of course was the 2 and a half foot of raw sewage toilet paper dirty sanitary napkins and mold that were in the basement of the cottage. After sitting out by the firepit on our second night we noticed a smell after further investigation we discovered the raw sewage we were sleeping over top of. We told the owners and their response was "sorry you had to see that usually people don't go in the basement". What an apology! He then claimed we were trying to extort him and he was unwilling to deal with people like us we needed to leave the property immediately because he had another family coming in to rent the cottage and it needed to be cleaned. After going back and forth about how he should not be renting it to anyone until the biohazard is cleaned and the pipes are repaired he insisted we leave the property even though the rules state that we had to be out of the cabin by 12 but had use of the property for the day. But that isn't the end there are BED BUGS in the cottage my family is now covered with big red welt bites. To the owners who claimed we were trying to extort them and that the over 2 ft of raw sewage with 4 inches of mold all over every surface of the basement were from my family being there for 2 days shame on you do better the public deserves to be as safe on your property as they are in their own home! Saying you didn't know there was a problem is unrealistic with the amount of sewage it has been there for awhile. I now understand why you said the septic was limited because the septic is obviously the ground under the house. read more

I camp-out and chillax at Abrams Creek Campground just as much as I can. The water is splendid, the wild life abundant, and so is fire wood. For convenience they even sell wood. Shower houses are sufficient and lots of hot water. It is spacious and tidy with nice walking paths. Easy to find, with a really nice staff. read more

I spent hours on the Internet looking for a quiet, peaceful (i.e., no humongous RVs with flat screen tv's) nature-focused campground, with a site next to a flowing stream. Lo and behold, Abram's Creek finally appeared in my Google world. It is rustic, with plenty of space between sites and direct access to a beautiful flowing creek. Michael was very helpful in helping us find the best site for our small pop-up--right next to the creek, so that we could sleep to the sound of bubbling water every night. The port-a-potties are well maintained, and the shower always had plenty of hot water. If you are looking for luxurious glamping, this may not be your place. But if you savor and value nature, get thee to Abrams Creek Campground! We will be going back many, many times. You do not find gems like this very often. read more

I recommend camping here if you are looking for a quiet place with fresh air and are just looking to relax. The river is perfect for lounging about and swimming. You can set up a tent, get a tipi, a cabin or stay in the lodge. They have showers near the lodge and drinking water at various locations. They supply fire wood for $5 a bucket or you can forage for your own at no charge. They allow pets and are pretty liberal with the leash rules (my dog loved it). It's not the most exciting place, but there are other attractions nearby, such as Mt. Storm lake. They can't accommodate large RVs (keep it under 22 feet). I'll go back. read more

This is an amazing, wholesome palce to spend a weekend away from the city. Enjoy the communcal bonfire on weekends, the group meditation sessions, the expert massage services, the moss covered limestone and the trickling creek complete with refreshing swimming holes. All lodging options exist: bunk in the lodge, rent a heated cabin or a small house, set up your tent or try the local way: sleep in a tipi. The staff is helpful and friendly and the facilities are spotless. Close to Davis and Thomas, WV, Abram's Creek is a short drive from the Purple Fiddle.. and Mt. Storm Lake. Enjoy. read more

Very disappointing, we showed up Saturday night, it was raining pretty hard at the time so we opted for a cabin opposed to pitching a tent in the dark. We were provided with a price list on the cabins and selected a smaller cabin since there was just 3 of us $62 we were told those cabins were already occupied and that we could only get the larger cabin for 5 people $84. We went in the cabin, it was filthy and the couch had dead bugs on it. 4 of the beds were mattress up in the loft that had about 30 inches of head room and sheets stapled over the insulation. none of us were willing to sit on the couch or go in the lofts. I slept on the front porch. The next morning I walked the entire camp ground, not a single cabin was occupied. We were stuck in this over priced cabin such that the owner could pocket an extra $22 bucks. where as the cabin we asked for did not have a loft but instead bunk beds that would have served us better. We received a filthy product that did not serve our needs but cost us $22 more. Look at the cabin before you give your money the cabin wasn't much more than an 84 lumber shed. The creek and the setting is nice but needs maintenance and an honest owner. read more

We were 6 adults (ages 26-30), 2 toddlers (ages 2-3) and 1 baby. We stayed for 3 days & 2 nights in Cabin F, which is the biggest cabin they offer. Our first impression of the cabin was that it was very dirty and a bit creepy. The windows where covered with spider web (interior and exterior) and floor needed to be swept. We were prepared for this so we brought our own cleaning supplies and cleaned the cabin prior using it. The furniture was broken and there was even a rock supporting one of the sofas. The cabin had the mattresses on the floor rather than in bed furniture (as pictured). The website stated that the cabin included a 2 burner propane stove on counter top but it was not working (no regulator) and the owner did not have a replacement burner. They did provided us with a big propane tank so we can use the stove of a bigger grille located outside the unit. They provide non-commercial type of grilles that you can buy in Walmart so these do not last long. There was another small grille included with the unit but it looked like it was found on the creek since it was all rusted out, there was no handle to open & close the lid (see pictures). The worst part comes next, the first night in the cabin we heard some noises and I thought it was some animal outside like some chipmunks running on top of the cabin, we ignored it and kept sleeping. The next night, we found out these noises where mice and there where at least 10 in the table eating our dry food that night. We also heard them walking through the insulation & walls of the cabin. We immediately freaked out and went to sleep in our cars. My friends and their daughters had to leave to their homes (4 hours away) at 2:00 am because they could not sleep in their car since they did not fit lying down. After further inspection the next morning, we noticed all the cabin insulation had holes and all of our dry food was eaten by these creatures. The insulation had a blanket stapled to the ceiling to cover mouse holes as well. The rest of the party left very early in the morning since we were very disappointed and freaked out with this experience. We spent all sunday cleaning our equipment & washing our cloth and we where very exhausted the next day. We had 3 toddlers / infants and one of our adults was pregnant. We would never have exposed our children in this situation if we knew about it before. All mice droppings are very dangerous and they can be carriers of a deadly virus called Hantavirus. The virus is carried in their saliva, urine and feces and can be passed to humans very easy. We spoke to the owner about this experience and his response was that this was unfortunate but it was expected since we were in the woods. He sounded like he knew about this before. He told us if we ever had any problems like this, we could go have let him know and he would have taken care of it (getting rid of the mouse) since he has methods on doing this and could only take an hour, seriously? We rang the bell the first day at 8am to request a two burner stove and did not receive an answer from you, how can you expect us to contact you at 2am with children in the cabin? Also, if you get rid of all the mice, how can you get rid of all the mice urine, feces, saliva, etc? The bathhouse was very dirty, mold on the shower curtain, roof, etc... shower walls where covered with dirt and grime (like from old soap), etc.... There was even a big wasp nest next to the bath house and one wasp almost bit my daughter (2 yrs old). There is no flush toilet in the area, only porta potties and they were not clean and they looked like they were not being emptied often. My advice to the owner is to contract a cleaning company to go there and clean on a daily basis, maintain the facilities better and build some flush toilets. As for the cabins, maybe raise them off ground, install new insulation (remove contaminated one), seal the whole interior put new furniture or at least make a decent fix, dont go to the creek and get rocks to support sofa's. Make sure it's clean before and animal free if you rent them to someone especially with children. I hope these children don't develop any type of sickness because if they do, I will be visiting my attorney. I requested at least a partial refund and owner agreed but after spending so much money on this trip ($250 food, $300 gas for all 3 cars, $145 cabin rental, etc.) we were very disappointed since we did not enjoy the way we wanted.
