I took my dog for a walk today when he suddenly stopped and became very alert. He kept glancing between me and something ahead, refusing to move forward. That's when I saw it--a baby rattlesnake right in front of us. It hadn't moved yet, but my dog had already sensed it. This is exactly the kind of response he learned during his training with Dustin. As soon as the rattler started to rattle, my dog immediately turned and pulled me away from the danger. Without that training, this situation could have ended very differently. The snake was nearly invisible among the shrubs and rocks on the trail. I'm incredibly grateful for the training--it truly made all the difference today. Words can't describe how truly thankful I am for Dustin and his team! The amount of knowledge, care, effort and patience they poured into Sadie and I still brings me to tears from time to time. They exceeded every expectation and gave me a better understanding of Sadie. This is gonna be a long review, but I wanna share the amazing experience Ive had with them! I recently sent my 1yr and 3month old malinois/doberman (Sadie) to North County Canine for a 5 week board & train and I was/still am left absolutely shocked. After going through 2 different trainers, North County Canine was our last resort. Sadie had tons of anxiety, very reactive, bit all the time, never listened to me, had broken a screen window to attack an amazon worker, etc. Trust me the list goes on. After a customer at my work referred me to Dustin and his team I reached out ASAP and got a consultation. At the consultation Dustin was very transparent with me in what Sadie would need before and after the 5 weeks. Fast-forward to a couple days before pick-up I went in for a session with one of the trainers Sadie was working with, Shelby. I was in complete shock the whole session, because Sadie was a completely different dog! Well behaved, confident, listened, actually knew how to STAY! During the session Shelby helped me understand so much about Sadie's behaviors and the causes of them as well! When it came time for pick-up, Nicole and Paul were SUPER helpful! They explained to me the whole journey that Sadie had gone through and made sure I was confident in Sadie's commands before leaving. Sadie went from refusing to work with anyone else but Nicole to loving everyone! When I heard them say that Sadie got along with others dogs I was speechless! I really did have my worries but every last one of them are gone thanks to Dustin and his team! Sadie is now the opposite of every problem we had initially. She is confident and so well behaved. As long as you keep up with the training at home and you're serious about your dog's progress then it is well worth every penny. My 4 yr old lab/ shep mix completed our 10 week course with Dustin. I had my reservations as Shiloh was a stubborn girl and didn't care about pleasing anyone but herself. She also was a very reactive dog and a very strong 73 lb puller And a barker at the window And I am a senior. An active one but a senior none the less. However. I can not believe the dog that I have now. Dustin really takes the time to understand not just the genetics of the breed but the personality of the individual dog. She really listens to me and wants to please me now. I have more confidence on our walks when we pass other dogs. She is a dream to walk Her behavior inside and outside the house has completely changed for the positive. I cannot thank them enough for their patience and the education they have in training dogs. I will continue taking her to group classes and their pack walks which sound so fun. I believe this will continue to get her used to being with dogs and cure her reactivity. Dustin and the entire team at North County K9 is top notch. I've been training with them for about a year now. My dog Cash was purchased as a family protection dog 2 years ago from another company. Cash was great out of the box but I wanted to continue to give him what he needed in his life which is more training. I recently adopted a 1-year-old dog from a shelter. She had been through a lot, was certainly stressed, and didn't have much training. I was having serious difficulty managing behaviors that were preventing her from being her best self (poor impulse control, atrocious on-leash manners and aggression toward other dogs). I really, really needed help. While I was apprehensive about handing my girl over to anyone, I decided to trust a recommendation given by another trainer, to see if Dustin and the team at North County Canine might be able to help us. After a few phone calls and discussion with Dustin, I decided on their 2-week board and train. Dustin communicated with me via text throughout my dog's stay, and sent photos regularly. She clearly looked happy and well-cared for, and the open communication was a huge reassurance. Dustin was realistic and didn't make unreasonable promises, but did seem optimistic that they could help her get on the right track. I picked her up just yesterday, and first things first: she looked happy and healthy. Second, the improvement in her manners and obedience was astonishing... I was so proud of her! I knew she had potential to be a wonderful dog, but I obviously didn't know how to bring that out - Dustin and the team clearly did. Dustin spent a lot of time explaining to me what they had worked on, then brought me into the training arena and out for a walk to teach me her commands, and to practice how I should work with her at home to help solidify what she'd learned. I imagine we will be going back for reinforcement and additional obedience training. I am so thankful to North County Canine - not only is she learning good habits, but I am too, and I think we now have a proper foundation that we can build on going forward. I really dislike writing bad reviews, the last time I wrote one I deleted it. I have been at odds with myself over this review, its not something I'm taking lightly but I feel it needs to be known and not forgotten. I've brought my dog Snoop here several times. The first set of employees I really enjoyed. However, I am very sad and betrayed over the situation my dog endured this past March. I went to Mexico on vacation for 8 nights and 9 days. I reached out to Dustin several times to see if it were ok to leave snoop there for that long. It took a while to get a response, which is typical for them as they seem to always be busy with events and other dog programs/seminars. He finally responded a few days before my vacation with a yes, no problem. For some reason, I had this bad feeling from the start. Let me point out that mid way through my vacation I reached out to Dustin to find out if everything was ok and if they understood the feeding schedule I had texted him. He replied with "All is good" I had my son drop off snoop with 9 days worth of food and treats, 2 blankets, his brand new kennel and favorite toy. I picked him up with almost HALF his food UNOPENED, a kennel that did not belong to him, clean blankets and no toy. Snoop was clean when I picked him up, a rarity considering the amount of days he was there. He did not smell like he did when he boarded in the past. When I picked him up on the 9th day, my poor snoop was literally half his size. Ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration but that's how I felt. He's a big healthy one year old muscular doberman and weighed 89 lbs when I dropped him off and 9 days later he weighed 81lbs and hardly any muscle. He walked slowly, lost all his voice - literally could not bark for 3 days. He was shedding hair like I've never seen, hair just falling off with lots of dandruff. His eyes were blood shot red - lasted a few days. He was so timid and afraid of any noise for several weeks. Several days later I took him to the vet to have him checked out as he was just not the same. The vet noticed the weight loss and also his teeth. In addition to him being dehydrated, his premolars and canine section of his teeth were no longer sharp. Signs he was chewing his kennel or something hard. (might explain why we received some other dogs kennel) I texted Dustin immediacy once I got home from picking him up and sent him a picture of his unopened food and explained that something went wrong. Dustin called me and acted like it was no big deal, referring to when snoop was a puppy and had food issues and then said snoop was not eating his food and the staff did not want to waste food so they would only feed him when he was hungry. I was upset at his response. The pictures show unopened food. How would staff know if he was hungry if they didn't even open the food to feed him. They didn't even give him his liver topper and treats, something he would never reject. All the bags and cans remained unopened. You can see in the picture how skinny snoop looked and how he did not want to get up, just laid in front of me. That was right when we got home. He scarfed 2 servings of food which he threw up moments later. He threw up food for a day and a half. A few things happed immediacy after that concerned me. I was never billed. Which I never would have paid anyway. And a help wanted "kennel technicians" was posted days after I picked him up. See picture of the post. Something clearly happened and I'll never know. Today I had snoops teeth cleaned, the vet advised me to monitor the wear on his teeth because of his age. I was reminded of his stay and I was compelled to write this review. I wish I hadn't gone on that vacation and I wished the situation was handled differently with respect to my concerns. Months later I'm still upset, still reminded. read more

My girlfriend and I recently adopted a Belgian Malinois and we recognized he was very dog aggressive and lacked obedience. We sent our Malinois, Panzer, to a 3 week board & train with Dustin and we could not have asked for better results! Can't thank Dustin and his team enough for the amazing job they did with Nala my 2 year old German Shepherd. Prior to her training Nala was very reactive, had separation anxiety, poor manners, and she pulled so much on the leash it was almost impossible to walk her. Thanks to NCC, after a 4-week board and train Nala is a completely different dog now! She's well mannered, obedient, can loose leash walk, and most important of all she's confident! We're finally able to enjoy long walks with her, play fetch off-leash at the park, have friends and family over with her around, and now we're looking forward to taking her with us to Lake Tahoe over the summer. Didn't see a snake in the brush and I wasn't going to look. But I know he diverted me for a reason. Let me start off my saying puppy blues are a real thing, I'm a first time dog owner and I got my German Shepard at 8 weeks. There was so many things I didn't know and wanted to be a first time owner the "right" way. I never knew how reactive GSD could be and territorial and I knew my dog needed boundaries from the beginning. Dustin was recommended to me and let me say he has been such a help on this journey! My wife and I tried a different board and train about 6 months prior to this and were left with an okay job but still plenty of issues that only grew into headaches and frustration. Fast forward a bit and now I'm sitting in an evaluation with Dustin and Jessica helping us understand Draco a little more and analyzing a list of different situations to come up with a game plan for Draco. After the eval we scheduled a date that works to begin the training and they definitely exceeded all of my expectations. Our young shepherd went through a traumatic experience with another trainer, that left her fearful, reactive, and lost. While working with NCC Gigi has fallen back in love with life again. She has confidence back like I could have never imagined. Walks were a nightmare, but now the girls are so well trained that i can walk them both together, which says something because i am not a very big/ strong personWhen we adopted our second girl, they welcomed her with open arms and task trained her to preform as a service dog. Dustin has helped us immensely with training our corgi pup Sully to walk on a leash without tugging. One session in, we were able to see a 90% difference right away! He has also played an integral role in helping Sully to drop toys when he was reluctant to do so before. Dustin and Jess are awesome! They are the best K-9 trainers we have ever worked with in terms of both knowledge on behavior modification and instructional abilities. They clearly communicate what needs to be done to both the dog and owner and make training a breeze. We began training with our year old Labrador Retriever who had a few behavioral issues (leash pulling, barking, disobedience) and within a couple sessions his behavior had completely turned around!
