I couldn't recommend this training facility/club more to anyone who cares about having a highly well trained dog and do it all the right way! If I could give NCC more stars, I would! Dustin and Jess truly care about their clients whether it be the people and/or the dogs! Not only that, they are very knowledgeable, caring and funny! They have it all and I'm so lucky my boyfriend and I found this place! His GSD has come such a long way in his obedience, protection & confidence thanks to NCC and this is just the beginning! If you train here, you won't regret it!

Training with Ace when we got him home.

We just got our puppy back today! His name is Ace and he's an 8 month old Belgian Malinois. We got him from the shelter with him having no training. We are amazed with what North County Canine Training has made of him in just 3 weeks. He's almost a whole different dog! He's obviously still a puppy and has lots of training ahead of him but that's what owning a dog is all about! North County planted the seed now it's up to us to be consistent and to make him grow. If you want the best and most professional training for your dog, this is the place! The whole staff is friendly and easy to talk to. Can't wait to attend the free classes on the Weekends!! Thank you North County Canine!

I am so lucky to have chose to train my dog with North County Canine. I can't recommend working both Jess and Dustin more! Frankie is a Corso/Dane mix who lacks a lot of confidence and attending the group obedience classes is one of the best things for her. The progress in each dog from class to class is impossible to miss and it truly is so beneficial for Frankie's behavior outside of class as well. We do both private and group lessons whenever we can and Frankie and I both throughly enjoy attending and there is always some to learn.

    Arthur just being happy!

I can't say enough good things about North County Canine Training. They transformed our dog Arthur from a spazy pup to a well-behaved companion. Jessica and Dustin were amazing trainers who taught us how to establish a routine and use effective strategies to help Arthur interact with other dogs and humans. They were friendly, professional, and patient with us and our dog. We are so happy we found them in North County San Diego. If you are looking for an excellent dog trainer in North County, you should definitely check out this team. They are the best!

Words can't describe how truly thankful I am for Dustin and his team! The amount of knowledge, care, effort and patience they poured into Sadie and I still brings me to tears from time to time. They exceeded every expectation and gave me a better understanding of Sadie. This is gonna be a long review, but I wanna share the amazing experience Ive had with them! I recently sent my 1yr and 3month old malinois/doberman (Sadie) to North County Canine for a 5 week board & train and I was/still am left absolutely shocked. After going through 2 different trainers, North County Canine was our last resort. Sadie had tons of anxiety, very reactive, bit all the time, never listened to me, had broken a screen window to attack an amazon worker, etc. Trust me the list goes on. After a customer at my work referred me to Dustin and his team I reached out ASAP and got a consultation. At the consultation Dustin was very transparent with me in what Sadie would need before and after the 5 weeks. Fast-forward to a couple days before pick-up I went in for a session with one of the trainers Sadie was working with, Shelby. I was in complete shock the whole session, because Sadie was a completely different dog! Well behaved, confident, listened, actually knew how to STAY! During the session Shelby helped me understand so much about Sadie's behaviors and the causes of them as well! When it came time for pick-up, Nicole and Paul were SUPER helpful! They explained to me the whole journey that Sadie had gone through and made sure I was confident in Sadie's commands before leaving. Sadie went from refusing to work with anyone else but Nicole to loving everyone! When I heard them say that Sadie got along with others dogs I was speechless! I really did have my worries but every last one of them are gone thanks to Dustin and his team! Sadie is now the opposite of every problem we had initially. She is confident and so well behaved. As long as you keep up with the training at home and you're serious about your dog's progress then it is well worth every penny. I truly can go on and on about my experience and about how gifted each and every one of those trainers are, but I think It would turn into an article at that point lol. I am so so grateful for my experience with North County Canine!

Dustin and the entire team at North County K9 is top notch. I've been training with them for about a year now. My dog Cash was purchased as a family protection dog 2 years ago from another company. Cash was great out of the box but I wanted to continue to give him what he needed in his life which is more training. There are very very few trainers in the country that have the experience and skill required to handle this kind of dog. Dustin and his team are one of those few. We've boarded with NCCT several times and every time they have good communication and take great care of him. We are very lucky to have met Dustin and the entire team at North County Canine. Cant recommend them enough.

I absolutely love taking my dog here for training. The new location is on a beautiful property, conveniently the same distance for me as there old faculty! Jessica Bancells & Dustin Winn are excellent at what they do! I started bringing my dog, Draco, (Great Pyrenees & Neapolitan mastiff mix) here when he was three months old. He is currently 7 months and 86lbs and man, I'm so thankful for getting him obedience training. Without there help, incredible knowledge and training methods, I myself would have a HUGE uncontrollable dog. Working with them he has gained such a confident personality and skills I could not have given Draco. I've also been taught the steps to have a stronger, and solid bond with my dog! I'd recommend them to any new puppy or dog owner out there!

I really dislike writing bad reviews, the last time I wrote one I deleted it. I have been at odds with myself over this review, its not something I'm taking lightly but I feel it needs to be known and not forgotten. I've brought my dog Snoop here several times. The first set of employees I really enjoyed. However, I am very sad and betrayed over the situation my dog endured this past March. I went to Mexico on vacation for 8 nights and 9 days. I reached out to Dustin several times to see if it were ok to leave snoop there for that long. It took a while to get a response, which is typical for them as they seem to always be busy with events and other dog programs/seminars. He finally responded a few days before my vacation with a yes, no problem. For some reason, I had this bad feeling from the start. Let me point out that mid way through my vacation I reached out to Dustin to find out if everything was ok and if they understood the feeding schedule I had texted him. He replied with "All is good" I had my son drop off snoop with 9 days worth of food and treats, 2 blankets, his brand new kennel and favorite toy. I picked him up with almost HALF his food UNOPENED, a kennel that did not belong to him, clean blankets and no toy. Snoop was clean when I picked him up, a rarity considering the amount of days he was there. He did not smell like he did when he boarded in the past. When I picked him up on the 9th day, my poor snoop was literally half his size. Ok, maybe a bit of an exaggeration but that's how I felt. He's a big healthy one year old muscular doberman and weighed 89 lbs when I dropped him off and 9 days later he weighed 81lbs and hardly any muscle. He walked slowly, lost all his voice - literally could not bark for 3 days. He was shedding hair like I've never seen, hair just falling off with lots of dandruff. His eyes were blood shot red - lasted a few days. He was so timid and afraid of any noise for several weeks. Several days later I took him to the vet to have him checked out as he was just not the same. The vet noticed the weight loss and also his teeth. In addition to him being dehydrated, his premolars and canine section of his teeth were no longer sharp. Signs he was chewing his kennel or something hard. (might explain why we received some other dogs kennel) I texted Dustin immediacy once I got home from picking him up and sent him a picture of his unopened food and explained that something went wrong. Dustin called me and acted like it was no big deal, referring to when snoop was a puppy and had food issues and then said snoop was not eating his food and the staff did not want to waste food so they would only feed him when he was hungry. I was upset at his response. The pictures show unopened food. How would staff know if he was hungry if they didn't even open the food to feed him. They didn't even give him his liver topper and treats, something he would never reject. All the bags and cans remained unopened. You can see in the picture how skinny snoop looked and how he did not want to get up, just laid in front of me. That was right when we got home. He scarfed 2 servings of food which he threw up moments later. He threw up food for a day and a half. A few things happed immediacy after that concerned me. I was never billed. Which I never would have paid anyway. And a help wanted "kennel technicians" was posted days after I picked him up. See picture of the post. Something clearly happened and I'll never know. Today I had snoops teeth cleaned, the vet advised me to monitor the wear on his teeth because of his age. I was reminded of his stay and I was compelled to write this review. I wish I hadn't gone on that vacation and I wished the situation was handled differently with respect to my concerns. Months later I'm still upset, still reminded.

MOOSE - our rescue blue heeler
    Straight T.

We took our rescue blue heeler to North County Canine for training. Nicole and Shelby were extremely kind and patient and their training skills are exceptional. We took them a scared, nervous dog and now we have an exceptionally well adjusted member of our family. When we took him home, we we're amazed at how secure he had become and how happy he was. The trainers at NCC were in tune with our dogs personality, issues, breed characteristics and helped him overcome his issues. He's 100% more adjusted and is incredibly secure and well behaved. I highly recommend the folks at NCC. Dustin has put together a great team!

Thank you Dustin for your continued patience and knowledge during the group obedience classes. I found Dustin and North County Canine Training through a friend and I am beyond thankful. I have learned so much from Dustin and I am looking forward to not only more obedience classes in the park but also some private lessons.

Highly recommend NCCT! I've taken my 3.5 year old cattle dog here for group classes and tracking. They are extremely knowledgeable about dog training and work really well with our dogs. I've gotten amazing feedback on my handling skills which has helped me grow my relationship with my dog. If you're around SoCal and need dog training, give them a call!

    Mike V.

I highly recommend NCCT to anyone who has a puppy or older dog they want to be trained in obedience, tracking, scent detection or anything else NCCT offers. I always thought it was better to have a well trained obedient dog then just a dog that is partly obedient and listens when they want. So when I was looking to get my 4 month old Belgian Malinois trained in obedience, I visited other training businesses to see what they offered. I was never impressed with their professionalism or the costs of their programs. I came across NCCT and reached out to them and left a message. Dustin replied within a few hours and provided the information on what they provided. I signed up for their 8 week (1 hour a week) puppy obedience training. This was about 12 weeks ago now. Anyways, that was when I met Nicole. I was very impressed with her knowledge and expertise in dog training. Bottom line, a dam good trainer. Every week she provided my wife and I with guidance and the feedback (what we were doing right and where we needed to improve) to help us progress in training our Mal. I can take him anywhere without any concerns.I participated in their Rattlesnake Aversion training, which I feel was a success because on one occasion I have observed my Mal's behavior change and divert from a area we were walking by. Didn't see a snake in the brush and I wasn't going to look. But I know he diverted me for a reason. Being around the NCCT team for the past few months, I can honestly say that all the trainers are very professional and knowledgeable. They are always willing to provide helpful tips and trick in training your dog.

We've had no out-of-control barking incidents; he can be tethered and remain quiet. He's very good on walks, moving from "heel" to "break" and back to "heel" again. He's very responsive to the "off" command, which we use primarily to keep him off the furniture and out of the kitchen. Last week we had friends over for dinner and after his initial excitement he was a good boy, lying nearby content and chewing on a bone. We even attended the Humane Society Walk for Animals at Kit Carson Park, and with hundreds of dogs and people and non-stop activities, he was again a very well-behaved boy. We are so appreciative of the work that Michelle did with Monty. He is now the dog we always hoped he would be - happy, well-behaved, and living his best life!

This place was a literal lifesaver for us: the staff once noticed Bams was lethargic with faint yellow gums--a detail so subtle that even Bams vet was impressed they caught it. It turned out to be mild jaundice, which proves that Carlene and her team are true professionals who deeply understand canine health. The front desk experience is always a highlight of our day. The staff--Gabs, Kayla, Daniela, and Enrique--are incredibly sweet, soft-spoken, and remarkably easy to talk to, even during those 6 am drop-offs. Being greeted by Kayla's pup, Yogi, or Carlene's pup, Poppy or Ingrid's pup is truly the best way to start the morning. They're such a joy; all they ever ask for is a little love and some well-deserved tummy scratches! The service is so thoughtful; they know Bams loves fetch but also ensure she gets her necessary quiet breaks after meals. Whether I'm at work or traveling internationally, I have total peace of mind thanks to the multi-angle webcam app and the heartwarming photo updates they send. Boarding is seamless (pro tip: label your food bags!), and the Paw Partner app makes booking a breeze. I also have to shout out Jessica from Snips and Snuggles--she is the sweetest groomer and always leaves Bams looking like a princess in her festive bandanas. A massive thank you to Carlene and the entire hardworking team-- Kayla, Gabs, Daniela, Enrique, Connor, Tim, and Ingrid (and anyone I missed!)--for the 14-hour days you pull to care for our furry family members. **Life-Changing. Truly.**…read more I don't write reviews lightly and I especially don't write emotional ones--but Bark Busters of San Diego quite literally gave me my life back. For years, I lived in silence and stress. I couldn't leave my home without my dogs barking, howling, scratching at their crates, and spiraling into panic. The mouth watering alone was enough to break me. So instead, I stayed home. I adjusted my life around their anxiety. I suffered quietly because I loved them and didn't know what else to do. Until one day I broke down completely. I realized this wasn't living not for me, and not for them. We deserved calm. We deserved peace. We deserved to live our "best" lives and this wasn't it. Some people complain in reviews that dog training "doesn't work." Let me be very clear: anxiety whether in humans or dogs is not something you fix by checking a box. A true behavioral therapist understands one thing above all else, "awareness". Anxiety comes from surroundings and perceived safety. The work is learning how to respond and create calm and that takes consistency. I spent three straight weeks training four hours a day, every single day. I cried. I doubted myself. I wanted to quit. But I followed the Bark Busters program exactly as taught--daily simulations, real-world scenarios, repetition, and patience. And then something incredible happened. My dogs slept. They relaxed. They trusted. Today, I can leave my home and my dogs are calm, quiet, and peacefully sleeping, knowing I'm coming back. Visitors come and go with ease. My 9- and 6-year-old Maltipoos are relaxed, confident, and happy. And so am I. Here's the truth people don't want to hear, there is no magic pill. There is no shortcut. The training never "ends" because leadership and love are lifelong commitments. And honestly? That's the gift. Once it becomes part of your daily life, it feels natural. I walk more. The cuddles are calmer. I'm no longer being climbed on out of anxiety I'm being loved in peace. And about the cost? Think about it. You've already spent more on multiple trainers, treats, wasted time, emotional exhaustion, and a very unhappy household. Bark Busters' training is guaranteed for life. If you move. If life changes. If new challenges come you're supported. That matters more than people realize. Justin and his team are beyond words. Compassionate. Honest. Direct. They don't just train dogs, they train families. Value your pet's life. Value the short, precious time we get with them. Happiness--for everyone in the home is worth the work.

I'm updating my original 6-month review now that it has been a full year since we hired Bark…read moreBusters to help with our rescue dog Mimi. As first-time dog owners, the early support really did help us. Having someone we could call during those overwhelming first months was a relief. Over time, though, I realized I was hoping the training would shift toward more positive reinforcement. The constant, harsher corrections worked at first but eventually didn't seem effective anymore and started affecting my relationship with Mimi. I noticed this during a family trip where Mimi, who is usually fearful of strangers, bonded more easily with my husband and his family. She gravitated toward them when scared, and I realized it might be because they weren't following the correction-heavy approach, while I was. I also asked for help with Mimi's fear and reactivity toward other dogs, but was told they didn't have dogs available for training and that I would need to bring a calm, socialized dog myself. As a non-trainer, that was very hard, but we tried by traveling many hours to introduce her to my husband's family dog. The experience ended up being chaotic since the family didn't fully understand what the process required, and new people and dogs kept appearing even though Mimi wasn't ready. Her reactivity came back in that environment, which made me feel like the training had only put a bandaid on deeper fear issues. Maybe I should have clarified expectations better from the start, but with a high-need dog and being new to all of this, I didn't know what to expect. Since then, we've switched to a positive reinforcement trainer who organizes structured group activities. Mimi is still scared of bigger dogs and can still be reactive, but she's improving slowly and has been able to meet a few smaller dogs. She's also still fearful of people, but she nips a lot less now, so progress is happening. Overall, Bark Busters helped us in the beginning, but long-term we found that a different, more positive approach has been a better fit for Mimi.
