been past here dozens of times and I never thought about stopping; the brick-to-glass ratio is all wrong because, well, you know... it's kannapolis. but today in the rain it called to me... better late than never I suppose. so I get in and have a look and there's tables to one side and a counter to the other with a menu board behind that listing a variety of burgers, sandwiches, and other morsels of good repute according to the kids at the counter. I asked about coffee and a fresh pot was set to brewing as I went back and forth between a dog and fries and a patty melt before deciding on the chicken sandwich special which basically comped the fries. meanwhile the coffee finished and I got topped off and found a seat. My sandwich arrived shortly looking about like I expected; topped with lettuce and tomato, add a smear of mayo and surround by a pile of fries that I am pretty sure started the day in the freezer but they did alright on my plate; hot and crispy and played well with the ketchup. kinda lingered over lunch, and got seconds on the coffee. left comfortably full but not bloaty and feeling good for skipping a sweet. there's hershey's ice cream if you want. read more

I tried this place out for the first time tonight. I was too distracted by the lack of COVID precautions to fully appreciate the fine points of what they have to offer. We entered and figured out that you order at the counter, take a seat, and then they deliver the food to the table. I ordered pork tips and two sides. My date ordered fillet of chicken sandwich with a side of fries. The counter space was limited. Customers were inches away from me on both sides. NONE of the workers behind the counter were wearing a mask. Many of the patrons weren't wearing a mask. Our food was delivered to the table by an unmasked employee. She also brought us refills. The place appeared clean. They have a 96.5 sanitation grade. The dining room was tidy. My pork tips were very flavorful. They were smothered in onions and peppers and served on a bed of white rice. I enjoyed it. The mashed potatoes were okay. The pintos were straight from a can. The portion size was large. The chicken sandwich was huge. It was good. The fries were very good. They have several items here that have names like "The Humdinger" with no description. Thus, I had to ask the order taker to describe them for me. She was very patient and kind, but eventually just told me "you can't go wrong ". You order at the counter and they bring it to you, and I settled on the patty melt, a hotdog, and fries. Patty melt: This is the one menu item I actually did not ask her to describe, and when I got it, it was not served on rye bread--it was served on Texas toast. I know this is a practice some find acceptable. I am not such a person. I think you can be arrested in some parts of the country for preparing a patty melt on any bread other than rye. Certainly I think using any other bread makes it NOT a patty melt. At the very least, this should be explained ahead of time. There were not a lot of onions, the patties were pretty bland, and it was overall just a decent sandwich. Texas Pete to the rescue! Hot dogs: the wiener actually had a very good flavor, the slaw was decent but was a little wet, and the chili was very bland. The bun was lightly toasted, which along with the frank made the dog salvageable. Fries: average. Again, Texas Pete to the rescue! I was hoping with a change in ownership the girls working the front would get an attitude adjustment & learn how to greet customers. Instead they stop in the middle of bagging a Togo order to check out another Togo guest that walked in after. My order was ready and bagged on the counter in the incorrect bag so I waited 10 minutes on food for them to eventually give me the plate that was bagged and on the counter the entire time I was waiting. Gave me old food. I mentioned it and asked why with no response. I had already paid so they just wanted me to leave and not mention it. North 29 Grill stands as a special place in a sea of fast food restaurants that serve mostly oily, fatty foods, so it is certainly the preferred spot for someone who wants a healthier option. The menu showcases your typical sandwiches, burgers, and salads, but also gyros and pitas. This time around I chose the grilled chicken sandwich that was only $4, unbelievably cheap considering the size. The portion was MASSIVE. Although, calling it a sandwich is misleading since it's more like a grilled chicken burger. The chicken patty is INCHES thick and sinfully juicy. Even though I was burning the roof of my mouth with every bite, I could not stop eating it. It was delicious! The vegetables, like lettuce and tomatoes, were fresh while the light mayo sauce didn't overpower the chicken. I will say that the buns did get soggy after some time. Perhaps toasting them would have made this burger even better. North 29 Grill is simple, from the service to the food, from the flavors to the serving ware. I called a order in, when I went to pick the order up the three young ladies at the front register area did not have on mask, and the owner that was preparing food had his mask below his chin, the owner had his mask under his chin exposing his nose and mouth, two workers preparing food had their mask under the nose, only one cook had his mask on properly over his nose and mouth. This is a great local place with absolutely awesome food at a low price. I ate it late night via Door Dasher (gyro pitas, potato salad and cheesecake....yummmmmyyy!!!) Local restaurant with a down home atmosphere. From the minute you enter, you are greeted by both the staff taking your order and often from the kitchen staff through the window. They are simply glad you are there. From the salads to the burgers and the Beef Tips (my favorite), there is not a bad choice. This place is a new business, but they have great food and great prices. Thus far I have not had any bad food. The grilled chicken sandwich is awesome, the chicken pitas are good, the fish looks delicious (my friends ate it, I watched). The service is usually good -- they do not wait the table so you may have to get up and get the girls at the counter to refill your drink. One of the girls seems to have an attitude every day, with no apparent reason. For the most part the female employees are courteous and helpful.
