After visiting Mate Factor in Savannah we were excited to check out the Yellow Deli in Hiddenite NC for my son and BF's birthdays. We had a brief wait and got to sit on the 3rd floor of the "treehouse" it was absolutely gorgeous! We ordered lunch, desserts and got birthday carrot cake cupcakes and a song by our sweet waitress. Everyone who worked there was very kind and helpful. The food was amazing! It's all homemade local and grown locally. Everything is so well made, presented beautifully and incredible. A really comfortable setting. And they are open 24 hrs! Knowing a little bit about the 12 Tribes community, our waitress picked up on this and was very open about her calling. She mentioned that some of her family had felt called to the community and others lived in other states. My son mentioned his love of nature and she said they have wolfing as an opportunity to help on their farms even if you are not part of their religion. It was wonderful to learn more about the community and our server's family. We absolutely will be back! It was an hour and a half drive to lunch and absolutely worth it! read more

The staff are so incredibly sweet! I mean, we had 4 kids with us who were hungry and over waiting-- yet the staff met us with emailed and Grace. The food was UNREAL. the portions are great, especially for the price. I understand why there was a wait! My husband enjoyed a sandwich, and I devoured a salad. The restaurant itself is really neat. There is tons of space outside to enjoy while you wait or to eat. Inside is absolutely beautiful. The woodworking is unreal. We cannot wait to visit again! This spot has been a Must try in my list for some time now so I'm so happy I finally got to try it. The sandwiches were delicious and the honey bun? Legit a bun with honey, sugar, and nuts but it was incredible. She explained how it wasn't a typical honeybun when we ordered in but it made us want it more. The building itself is beautiful and the inside feels so huge and unique. Definitely an interesting experience and I'd go back for sure. read more

Edit: The more I learn about this place and the organization, the more outraged I become. Do your research before dining here. I was disappointed in the Yellow Deli after waiting over an hour to be seated. It didn't seem seating happened in the order you arrived. The deli was recommended to me by the museum so I thought it'd be good. The parking lots were so full it was hard to find a spot. I felt bad vibes here. The decor is pretty neat like a big tree house and pulleys to send food trays up to the top level. So the actual restaurant is an amazing piece of work. The food on the other hand was awful. The pickle was the best part and I don't even like pickles. The sandwich was flavorless. Had I known that I'd get a soggy sandwich I wouldn't have waited. I ordered the roast beef on sourdough with provolone cheese and lettuce and tomato. Then I was asked minutes later if mayo and mustard were ok. I didn't order that so no. It took forever to get water. I'm not sure if it was a lack of staff or what caused the delay. The sandwich may have been better with toasted bread as that would have solved the soggy part of it. The roast beef was cooked too long so not rare like regular deli meat. The lettuce and tomato were good. The chips were stale. The pickle was refreshing and got the ickiness out of my mouth. The vibes here made me think of a cult. The atmosphere was off and it didn't seem like the staff wanted to be there. The staff I interacted with were very scripted and not the usual back and forth conversation. My seat looked into the kitchen and there were no conversations, smiling or laughing. The workers are not paid and do not get the tip if you leave one. I suspect with the restaurant open 24 hours a day they are working long hours. They were all dressed similarly and the same hairstyle. There is religious propaganda around too. Come to find out, they are a cult, the Twelve Tribes, where they live communally and work at the tribe business. The Yellow Deli is definitely a hidden treasure in Hiddenite, a town known for its mines and gems. It is out of the way for most, but worth the trip. You cannot miss the building - located in an old, 2 story brick building from the railroad days, there is a lovely mural and gorgeous landscaping. We arrived for lunch and were greeted with smiles. The interior was a pleasant shock. Exposed brick, reclaimed wood, hand painted murals at every booth. There is even a second floor that I did not explore. The kitchen is exposed and spotlessly clean. I had to try the Hibiscus Deli Cooler, a sweet tea with a strong hibiscus taste (yummy)! The menu is a good size, not too much or too little. My son ordered the Deli Rose, a hot sandwich that was credibly flavorful. I had their own homemade veggie burger (which was made exactly how I want my veggies burgers!). Hot, with crispy edges and an interior of beans & mushroom, and fresh cool toppings of sprouts, avocado, lettuce & tomato. We had a dill pickle and kettle chips with both sandwiches. The waitress was lovely and was there for us but not hovering. As I said, definitely worth a trip here for the ambience and food. read more

I've been wanting to visit this restaurant for the longest time and so glad that I did! There are several Yellow Delis around the world and two that I will have to visit within TN (where I reside). The food is made from scratch, home grown, or sourced from people within their community. I ordered the Half Garden Salad, Lentil Beef Soup, Strawberry Cream Cheese Pie, and Sourdough Bread. It was alllk delicious. I ordered my food to-go and the service was great. All the employees always had a smile on their face. The restaurant looked very cozy and had a fireplace in it. I warmed my hands over it as I was walking to their restroom. They also sell mugs, honey, soaps, and other merchandise that they make. If you love their sourdough bread, you can go next door to their bakery/market to take a loaf home. read more

Really friendly service. Cool building. Amazing food!!! The menu is limited but everything we tried was great! There was a long wait for table service (good sign!) so we opted to order food to go. I had a Ruben which was decent. My boys had a BYO with beef, cheese, mayo, mustard and sprouts on a heritage roll. They both raves about it. The sandwiches came with chips and a pickle. We also each got a chili which came with a jalapeño corn bread. My boys got carrot cakes too. I sure wish I would have gotten the cream cheese pie. A true hidden gem...in Hiddenite. I'm sure the locals know this place, but from someone coming from out of town, this place is truly special and unique. Drove up during Presidents Day... government holiday, but I took the day off, so I think the lunch crowd was probably larger than they were used to. There was a bit of a wait for a two person table, but man, it was very worth it. Entire staff: servers, host, kitchen, were super friendly... I think they may have been short staffed for the day, but despite the hardships, they were very friendly and accommodating. The dining area is super cool too... get ready to climb some stairs since they've created booths and tables on different levels and nooks. Reminded me of a treehouse with special compartments. No two tables were next to each other so there was a lot of dinging "privacy." Our table overlooked the large opening in the center of the restaurant with a great view of the CLEANEST kitchen and their very unique dumb-waiter system (powered by pulleys). I had the Deli Rose. Which was amazing. I didn't realize it came with chips and a pickle, so I ordered a side cup of chili as well. Everything was amazing and it was nice to know the majority of the components came from the nearby farm or baked/made in-house. Their website mentions compliance with NC state guidelines for COVID-19. There is no signage up for masks to be worn in doors, but I think the setup of the cavernous dining room really aligns with social distancing. There were a couple of people that came in with masks on and there was no problems or altercations. Come as you are and you will be served. It was just refreshing to get away for lunch and feel like there wasn't a pandemic going on. The other unique thing about this restaurant is that its open 24hrs (Sunday thru Friday)... I would highly recommend going to Yellow Deli...the food and the tiny shop is delightful. It was a 45 min wait to be seated but yiu can browse the shops and buy all sorts of handmade goods and sample apple cider and teas while you wait or sit on the porch and people watch. Once inside we sat upstairs which was like seating in the tree top wear we could see everything. The tables upstairs had little roofs on them. The sandwiches are good but the strawberry pie with berry compote is the stuff of DREAMS. I would highly suggest getting a whole pie for 30.00 as you will want more. read more

Walking into The Yellow Deli just feels like you're at home. So calm and peaceful in there. The atmosphere gets your first and then smelling all of the fresh food closes the deal. This is a place to come for some nice comfort food or just some good fresh cooking. I have come twice and will review both of those times here all in one because the experience only got better. I came from Charlotte to visit my friend and she suggested we eat here. The first time I got the Chicken Alexander Sandwich, warm Apple cider, and Sweet Potato Pound Cake. The Chicken Alexander was suggested by my friend. It was good, but it is spicy for me (honestly anything is spicy to me so try it). I ate half of it and saved the rest for later because I needed to eat that pound cake. The bread was soft. The flavors worked well together and it was a great try. Now this sweet Potato pound cake: It is warm and sooo delicious!!! It is not a large serving but you can tell it is homemade right there like everything else. My second visit I got: a Turkey soup?? (sorry forget the name as it was soup of day). But it was to die for. And I about scraped the cup clean. Maybe if I would've slowed down after the sample I was given then I would've remembered the name. Nonetheless, I was very happy I was allowed to sample first to see if I liked it. Honestly what's not to like here? The food is FRESH people! It is cooked with love and care here. The fresh loaf I was given (you can get sourdough if you want) with the butter...well I ordered 2 because it was good. And I like bread and butter ok! Don't judge. Of course I got that warm Apple cider and sweet Potato pound cake again. I love it here ok. The people who work here are Heaven sent. Very kind. If you like great bread and good wholesome food and don't mind climbing a spiral staircase for a killer view, this place is for you. Sandwiches are their mainstay and come with slaw or chips served with a crunchy dill pickle spear. Soups and salads are offered as well as a bit of breakfast. Waffles sound good. I had a cup of chili and it was delish. It was thick and meaty good flavor, mild spice, and is served with a fluffy cornbread muffin. My server assured me that the Reuben gets high praise. It was very good, the bread was untoasted, that is my ONLY complaint. I had an Iced Green Matcha to drink. No one has these! Matcha is crack-tea for anyone unaccustomed. It has so much caffeine in it! (Hysterical villain laugh!) I loved it. They have root beer on tap. It is served in beer mug. I will come back with the tweenagers. They will be giddy with joy. I saw banana milk on the menu. I saw smoothies too. They have a Piña Colada Smoothie. The girls may opt for this instead of the mug of root beer. After visiting a winery near Wilkesboro, we decided to grab a bite to eat at The Yellow Deli. It was 40 minutes out of the way so we hoped it would live up to the 4.5 star Yelp review. The space is really cute--a total treehouse vibe! Lots of wood, spiral staircases, tables tucked into nooks and crannies. Such a cute place!! But...the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered two of the more popular items: the deli rose sandwich and the Reuben. The chips and pickle spear were the best thing on the plate. The deli rose sandwich had some kind of sweet ketchup/jam on it that ruined the taste. I regret not ordering a custom sandwich, but I really wanted to try something they are known for. The Reuben was also disappointing. The bread wasn't toasted, there wasn't enough meat, and there was a lot of mayo. (why is there even mayo on this sandwich? It should be Russian dressing) One other thing to note is there is no beer or wine served here. Other reviews raved about the desserts, so maybe that's what we should have ordered. Can be crowded at the usual hours, but the wait doesn't seem to last too long. Do be aware that asking for changes to menu items can be hit and miss - they seem to think they have the ideal configuration of a Reuben figured out. Hey, some people still mistake Swiss as the appropriate cheese for one when provolone is clearly superior, to each their own. Root beer is good, people are nice. Enjoying the scenery with a cousin from NY we happened upon this store. What a find!!!! I found organic lemongrass!! I had been looking for a long time. They have a fantastic selection of natural items., their teas are humongous and they have dried mango that reminds me of the ones I dehydrate myself. I was looking for a motorcycle ride destination and I came across the small town of Hiddenite, NC and the Yellow Deli as a place to grab breakfast. The building is very cool and rugged looking with lots of exposed wood beams and posts. The table seating is nicely done with good spacing between tables and it looks like they can handle a good crowd. I had a Reuben sandwich, which was very good. The service is fast and friendly. This is definitely a place I'll be visiting again and telling my friends about and it's a great motorcycle ride destination. read more

All three of us agreed that the locals/people who knew the host seemed to get seated much more quickly than the rest of us. From that point on, the experience really improved. The interior is gorgeous. I love the obvious effort they put into the building. We were seated upstairs. Our server was very nice. No one is in a hurry here. Our drinks (water) took at least 10 minutes. Rare for me, I didn't even care. Just sitting there listening to the music in the beautiful space, it's just a awesome time to relax. This whole place is basically like a big country treehouse, and virtually every piece of furniture and décor inside of this place appears either handmade or somehow related to the folks that own this place. This was my first time eating at this Yellow Deli in North Carolina. As you walk in, you can sense the charming rustic atmosphere making you feel like you want to be there and cannot wait to order. The staff are very friendly and make you feel welcomed. There are several levels and you have a selection of where you want to sit. The food, as expected, was excellent and had a very interesting selection of foods. The bread they serve with the meal is so fresh and delicious. They have a unique assortment of soft drinks. If you are in the area, it is worth your while to stop and eat. I had the Chicken Alexander. The ingredients are buffalo chicken, cheddar and hot pepper jack cheese, Chipotle ranch spread, onions, lettuce, tomato, sweet garlic mayo on egg roll bread. The Yellow Deli is a popular lunch spot in Hiddenite. The interior is well appointed and quaint. We had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. The whole restaurant (and adjacent bakery) are run by members of the "Twelve Tribes" commune. Lunch options consisted of mostly sandwhich WS, soups or salads. We visited in late March, so their produce was sourced by grocery store vendors. I imagine that the quality of the food offerings will improve once their garden and greenhouse edibles are in full production. This place is unique and delicious. Honestly I went because I've heard such stories about it and I was wildly intrigued. We got here right as they opened on Sunday and there was quite a line. It took a little bit for everyone to get seated and settled, but that was expected based on the line. Inside it has several levels. They use a pulley system to get food up and down. There's a drink bar at the top. My boyfriend ordered a sandwich off the menu - chicken Alexander - and I built my own - essentially a turkey sandwich on an onion roll. We both loved our sandwiches. Between that, the chips they came with, and the hot apple cider I ordered, I left ridiculously full. We didn't have any trouble with service like some other posts I saw, but I can see how it could get crazy in there. Will totally go back! read more

I enjoy Yellow Deli at least once a week! Definitely recommend the Chef Salad with House dressing (homemade vinaigrette) which is phenomenal! I finish off my meal with a large basket of chips with a large ranch to dip the chips in; and of course you cannot leave without a dessert! 2 of my absolute favorites would have to be the honey bun and sweet potato pound cake!! 100/10.
