Get thee to a dance evening!! For a fun-filled night of good music and kind partners who enjoy sharing their knowledge. Plus a full bar in a side room with reasonable prices ($7 for a lemon drop). There is a cover charge of $12 (cash) which applies to an included hour's lesson, quite reasonable. Plenty of parking out back and in the neighborhood, so don't worry about that. This was only my fourth time dancing in Portland. I'm learning so many steps (hello rumba this time), only to promptly lose them in my memories banks; but then when you hit the floor, your body goes, like, ah, I know this stuff, let's sway to this rythm. I will also share another couple of tips-with-good-things-to-know-beforehand: 1. there are special shoes but anything without a pin heel and that slides on a wooden floor will do: this is A Must, because unless you can slide, you will not be able to turn well enough and you may hurt yourself, so grab your old ballet slippers and put them to good use again 2. wear clothing you can sweat in (so washable) but that still looks dressed up 3. bring a BIG bottle of water 4. the dancing room will be cold when you first arrive so bring a sweater -- trust me, the room will heat up quickly after your first dance and with 60 people dancing!! So get out there and enjoy an affordable evening of exercise with good people and music!! Just google Portland swing dancing for locations every night of the week. Planning a wedding is stressful. Planning a wedding during a pandemic is almost impossible…read more When our 2020 wedding had to be postponed a year due to Covid-19, we were left with ALL of the feelings. We very easily could have been defeated by the situation, but the staff at Opal 28 always made us feel supported and positive that our event would be amazing! Even though people were working remotely and, I'm sure, dealing with their own stresses, there was never a lapse in time for communication and answers to any and all of my questions that came up over that year. Often times, my questions were met with so many thoughtful options and possibilities that it was clear the Opal 28 staff was a trusted team with a ton of experience! On the big day, the staff took all of the decorating and arranging into their own capable hands and off of mine and the venue looked even better than we imagined! I love the flow of the space, giving guests different areas to visit in both indoors and out. The food was impeccable and I should mention that in the time between booking the venue and having our wedding, we had gone totally vegan and wanted a plant-based menu. The chef came up with an entire list of possibilities and everyone was blown away that it was a totally vegan menu. Having the available apartments upstairs was also a huge help as we were able to add one for the night to use as a staging and changing area and place to store extra needed items. I can never thank the staff of Opal 28 enough for their care and professionalism and ability to keep everything positive and calm in the face of so many unknowns. I highly recommend this venue for any and all festivities and look forward to visiting again!

Drink was a gin n tonic cocktail mix off the menu (can't recall the name) burger was basic, just meat, cheese and veggies, the meat was on the dry side - maybe 2 / 5 stars . came with fries, the fries were ok. calamari was great, light and crunchy, not a lot of salt - 3/5 stars Vietnamese wings - these were so disappointing, they came out hot and sweaty, there was a pungent gamey smell in each bite, the bone smelled foul also, either the brine wasn't great or they didn't clean the meat. the batter wasn't crunchy, just really soggy. not a winner like the sticky crunch wings at pok pok or like any other vietnamese restaurant that serves fried drumsticks and wings. not sure what was happening with the wings here but they were horrible - 1 / 5 stars, only ate 1 of 2 because of the funky smell from inside the chicken. had nothing to do with fish sauce either. overall, beautiful on instagram, is worth a visit for drinks but the food is lacking. in a foodie City like Portland that's just sad. I guess these are appropriate for happy hour menu items.
