There is no need to purchase food from one of the purveyors to utilize the rooftop space, so go ahead and brown bag-it and head up the stairs to enjoy the backdrop of our beautiful city.

My son seemed quiet and unimpressed then at the end he got to see some of the cars where he could get in. The interior is attractive and very modern, and there is a large covered and heated patio if you prefer to sit outside (we did). The service was a little bit slow, but not egregious and the server was very friendly. The menu is not extensive, but it has good variety and everything on it looked excellent. All of their ingredients seem high-quality, and they have a number of gluten-free and vegetarian offerings. I ended up getting the eggs benedict, which came with a little salad. The salad was fresh, not wilted, and came with a light vinaigrette. The eggs benedict was absolutely stellar-- perfectly poached eggs, creamy hollandaise, and grilled halloumi to give some well-received brine to the bite, all atop an english muffin. For the price point and the quality, the portions are good. My one wish was that I could have subbed my salad for some of their potatoes! My partner got the pork belly hash, and thought that the potatoes were cooked perfectly-- crispy and well-seasoned. He did notice that there were only a few pieces of pork in the dish, but we chalked this up to the ingredient quality. We ended up staying for Happy Hour, which was fun! We got the fries with garlic aioli (so good!) and I ordered their daily cocktail special, a margarita. They gave me a good, heavy, pour, which is always appreciated. Great brunch spot if you want to go somewhere a little chic.

I've seen other reviews both here and on google and apparently it's an on-going problem. I live high up in my building a block away from this place and my apartment windows are shaking the music is so loud. Completely disrespectful to the residential buildings around them. This is like the 2nd or 3rd time I've been forced to go to bed past 1.30 AM because of Pure Space. I had my wedding reception at The De Soto in August of 2010. Arrangements and catering for this…read morevenue are through The Art of Catering. I have reviewed them (5 stars) separately. This review is strictly on the De Soto venue itself. It was a lovely space. Large enough for our 100 guests plus a 4-person gypsy jazz band and a dancing area. The terrace has a wood deck. There are trellis' and plants in big pots. White chairs and sunbrellas are available for use. The terrace was looking good already and then was transformed into a magical place by my florist, Adria Sparhawk of Lavish. The rooftop is about 4 floors up. It has a nice view of trees in the north park blocks as well as some of downtown Portland. Looking to the west, you have to look over AC equipment on the roof in order to see the trees. Adria came up with a great solution to that eyesore - she made gates out of willow and decorated them with vines and ribbon and placed these along the western railing. Problem solved! We had temps in the 90s. The roof was very hot with the sun beating down until it set over the west hills around 7 pm. After that, the temperature was perfect. If it is going to be a hot day, I recommend renting tents to add shade. We rented one 20x20 foot tent to cover the eldest and youngest. It looked fine and we could have used an additional one. There is no indoor space. Keep that in mind. The bathrooms are on the bottom floor so your guests will be up and down the elevator but that didn't seem to be a problem for anyone. The roof is wheelchair accessible. The entrance to the rooftop is on a pleasant block that has nice character. I'm taking a star off because of the AC eyesore, lack of indoor space and location of the bathrooms. Of all the rooftops and outdoor spaces I explored in Portland proper, the De Soto was the only one that met all my requirements. Still, I give 5 stars only if it's perfect!

Having attended a few corporate shindigs and a wedding reception here, I have seen the transformation come alive in so many different ways. The main floor of the annex is so beautiful during the day time with the natural sunlight (complete with window shades in case it's too much), and the acoustics are perfect for any additional musical entertainment. The staff here is top notch: professional and courteous to inquiring planners and guests alike. It is also remarkably multi-level. There is a downstairs, basement like level for smaller functions as well as the main floor that can be partitioned to whatever flow / layout. The mezzanine level provides a nice view of the room and the high ceilings certainly don't hurt. Another thing worth boasting is the ventilation system, which is crucial whenever there are going to be hundreds of bodies in any single room. Assuming there are no events happening at the Rose Garden, the East/West lots are usually available for people looking to park their cars. There is no street parking for several blocks, so it's important to be aware of this before coming. Anytime I'm invited to the Leftbank Annex, I won't think twice. I definitely plan on being in attendance.
