From hiking gear to skiing supplies to everyday favorite clothes, this place has EVERYTHING. It's a…read morestore you walk into for one thing and come out with five. The folks who work here are so, so nice and helpful. Whether you're a seasoned pro looking for a second opinion or a newbie intimidated to ask the wrong question, ask away and they'll run through their encyclopedic list of knowledge with you. As you can guess from the name, they carry a million camp and hiking supplies, but even as a non-outdoorsy person, it's fun to browse. (My favorite purchase ended up being an ultra light dry bag backpack that came in handy on a trip to Bali in the rainy season.) They've got a wide selection of clothes that you'd wear everyday from Filson to Patagonia and Arcteryx. They've also got you covered for the wild outdoors of Back Bay with a great selection of raincoats and winter gear from brands like Marmot and Canada Goose. When possible, I'm really trying to shop here and support a local store instead of ordering everything from Amazon. For a small shop, they run some great sales, like 20% off all boots or 15% off all Canada Goose. It's impossible to believe HTC has only been here for a year or so -- it feels like it's been part of Central Square forever.

Well, you can't call them on the phone to ask questions…read more They have nice pictures on their website. That's about it.

The…read morestaff are super knowledgable about ski equipment and are willing to talk to you in details about how gear before you buy it. They aren't pushy and won't try to talk you into buying gear you don't need, but they aren't the cheapest. You pay a bit extra here for service and expertise, but it can be with it unless you know exactly what you want. One thing that I found was nice was when I finally decided on the skis I wanted, they helped me get them set up with bindings and got me out the door in 15 minutes. I had called a few other shops out in the suburbs that said their turnaround time was a week to install bindings on new skis and they were farther away too. You can't beat these guys for convenience, expertise, and speed and a generally great shopping experience. On the downside, you need to book an appointment in advance. You can't just walk in. Somebody told me they plan to stay appointment only, even after COVID.

I called ahead and made an appointment, which keeps the number of people manageable, and they had what I wanted in stock. I had three choices of styles and prices, some in different colors. Success!
