I've used Norman's three times within the last year: First time: easy drop off /easy pickup. Around January 2024. Yay! Second time: easy drop off/not so easy pickup (slow-moving trainee who couldn't find one of my items so I had to go back. But we've all been new so understandable ). Approximately April 2024. Third time (today, 1/17/25): painful drop off with the woman who was a trainee in April. Still moving at snail speed and had to ask a colleague for help with a basic question posed by the person in front of me. When it was finally my turn to drop off some wool and cashmere sweaters, this happened: She looked at one sweater and said "is that dog hair?" I looked at the sweater, which maybe had a dozen dog hairs on it, and said yes. She then said dog hair makes her gag and someone else would need to take over, but that she was the only one there today. I told her that was an unfortunate condition to have in a job like hers. She then took it but tried to charge me extra for deep-cleaning it. I looked at her strangely and asked her to help me understand why that sweater, which had no more hair on it than any other (none of which had hardly anything) would require deep cleaning. This request defeated her, and she changed her mind about the extra charge. Conclusion - provided my sweaters are cleaned adequately this time I'll give Norman's another chance. But I'll be looking for another dry cleaner if the customer service continues trending downward read more

Although some of the employees are pleasant and helpful, the older lady there was extremely rude to my pregnant wife, putting her in tears, she refused to provide the information for the manager or owner saying they're never there, and complaining that we were making big demands when we asked for our clothes to be returned in 4 days, despite their offering one-day turnaround. I would highly recommend against using this establishment. Based on the way we were treated, it doesn't appear they care very much about their customers. read more

I used to take my dry cleaning to Best in McKinleyville. They have closed & this was the nearest place. It took them 10days to clean a lightweight wool sweater, cost $15 with a 'discount'. When I finally had time to pick it up, there was a horrible crease on the chest area. I asked if they could steam it out quickly & was given a no- it would be done 4 days! Plus it was supposed to be delivered to Arcata. It was not & now Im waiting 5 days for them to fix a crease that was incredibly obvious. They don't care about their work & are $$$. Its sad that in this area places are closing left & right, & as customers we're forced to use businesses that have never done good work & don't care to improve. read more

There was nobody to be seen when I stepped through the door, but after a mere couple of seconds I got the true old school fast and friendly customer service I didn't know I needed or even expected from a dry cleaning service. She was top on it! I can't remember her name though :,( The place was a huge maze of clothing to be done, they also had a big Help Wanted sign on the building. Everything considered, I'm sure she was very busy, yet she still took the time to treat me like a highly valued repeat customer even though it was my first time there. PLUS she gave me a super good deal on the price, just because. She asked what it wad, I said a King size down comforter, but let's charge you for a Queen today she says. Tight! I love a deal.. I'm not sure if there's even a choice for another dry cleaning service in Eureka, but I will only go to these guys from now on. * apologies for the long post. read more

I took some vests, a bag, and a poncho in to get dry cleaned. Before I came in I took off any loose pins & patches from the vest. The rest of the pins have locking backs. The poncho was covered in dog hair so they said it would be difficult to do, I put it back in my car. They mentioned the vests and I let them know I've gotten them dry cleaned before, explained the locking backs and asked them to do the bag. The only issue they saw with the bag was the strengthened bottom. That wasn't an issue. I was never informed that my items would be TUMBLING IN A MACHINE AT A HIGH TEMPERATURE, that's not my experience with other dry cleaners. when I picked up my items they informed me they tried to take off the pins. Why? They have locking backs. And some came off. I was upset they touched the pins, but not a big deal, I have more locking backs at home. WHEN I GOT HOME I SAW THE BAG WAS TORN TO SHREDS. THEY DIDNT TELL ME AT PICK UP. When I called to complain the first assistant was very nice, but THE MANAGER CUT ME OFF and when I asked her not to she said she wouldn't be talked to like this. Like how? Let me explain my issues. She wouldn't listen and told me I knew my items were just going to be thrown in a machine. No I didn't. She said she didn't have time to deal with me and HUNG UP. Before I posted this, out of good faith I called to see if they would refund the cost of the bag. Once again, the assistant was very nice and said, "I think that's reasonable and my manager would approve it" once I spoke to the manager she said SHE WOULDNT REFUND THE BAG and TRIED TO GUILT TRIP ME saying I "ruined it for everyone else" and she wouldn't be doing "risky items" again. I said I think that's a good idea, let her know I could finish this review or she could offer me a refund. She HUNG UP ON ME. I called back, no one answered. She called me and said I was harassing her and wasn't allowed in the Buisness or to call. (I never cussed or made ad hominem attacks and I only raised my voice when being spoken over). read more

I was a regular customer for the past 2 years and quite satisfied with the service and quality. I complimented the staff for their efforts to the manager, Paula a few times as they did a nice job on expensive high thread count sheets. Christine provided such excellent customer service at the pick up desk that I would come in on Friday's when she was working for the best service. The last two times my sheets came out poorly with strange patterns and even dirt marks. I asked Christine to have them pay better attention and provide the quality they always had in the past and she noted my account in the computer and apologized. Last Friday I came in earlier in the day than I usually do and Christine wasn't there. A new employee was working and was not familiar with the situation. The manager, Paula saw me and went off on me in front of other customers. I was shocked by her harsh comments and tone for a such a minor issue. She was rude and nasty and told me they would no longer do my sheets because they could not do them wrinkle free or to perfection. When I asked if we could discuss it because they had done a nice job for so long, Paula told me no, we do not want you business. I asked for the owner's phone number and with a harsh tone Paula told me they don't give it out. I asked Paula to please have him call me and she said sure. I have not heard back from anyone. I felt no care for a customer or fellow human being or pride in their work and sensed it would be wise to find a more appropriate place with better value. Shame on you to treat people so poorly and displace your stress and misery on others. Many lessons to learn here. People are the most important resource in the world and The Golden Rule still matters! read more

I originally had minor issues with my cleaning and then an issue with one manager. After being very aggravated by that manager, I spoke to the owner and he was very pleasant to deal with as were all his other employees with the exception of that manager. He had the minor issues with my dry cleaning quickly fixed and said he would speak to the manager that was an issue. With everything now taken care of and the second cleaning and pressing of my shirts done well, I am more than willing to suggest this establishment to anyone in the Arcata/Eureka area that needs to have things dry cleaned. Minor mistakes are made by all people at times and the willingness to fix them is always important. I will return to Norman's for any future dry cleaning needs. read more

I had my wedding dress and my husband's suit dry cleaned here. I arrived on a Friday afternoon right before closing and there was only one girl that was staffing, but she was completely nice and helpful. The dry cleaning only took a few days and it looks great. She even cut me a deal since my wedding dress is tea length and not very big (their wedding dress price usually reflects huge ballgowns with giant trains and the like). The owner also wrote me a nice note thanking me for trusting him with my wedding dress. I also like that it's probably the least toxic dry cleaning available in Humboldt. It didn't have a funky smell, but there was a bit of a grass(?) stain on my husband's pants that didn't come out. I don't dry clean very often, but I'd go to them again. read more

I found this place to be a bit pricier than I was expecting - that being said, I've never been to another dry cleaner, so I have no idea what dry cleaning realistically costs. My clothes came back clean and in the same condition that I brought them in as, what more could you ask from a dry cleaner? They advertise that they have a totally green cleaning process, and while I'm not sure what that all entails and how much better it is than traditional dry cleaning, I appreciate the effort. read more

A couple years ago I splurged on a winter coat by Eileen Fisher. Originally priced at $800.00, it was half price. Still expensive, but I loved it and had been needing a winter coat for a long time. It was a black, faux fur, simple jacket and I took it to Norman's in the early spring of 2018. I picked it up, took it home, put it in my closet (still in the plastic) and forgot about it. A couple weeks later I took the plastic off the coat and immediately smelled mildew and something that resembled vinegar. I took it back to Norman's and they told me that sometimes things aren't dry when they put the plastic bag on them and it causes mildew. They gladly took it back, acknowledging it was their fault, and promised to clean it again at no cost. When I picked it up a week later, the smell remained. In the end, they cleaned it a total of 5 times (including the initial cleaning). But the smell remained, even after I took it home and hung it in the sun, outside. When I returned it, they told me that I was imagining the odor, and that if it did smell, I was the cause of it. When I asked to speak to the owner, the manager informed me that he was aware of the situation but refused to speak to me or take any responsibility. I moved away from Eureka and when I did, I didn't even pick up my coat. I'm sickened at the notion of having lost a very expensive, and high quality coat. It smelled of an old person's closet, and I knew I would never wear it again. I'm sure they do a good job for many of their customers. But in this case, they ruined a very nice garment, originally assumed responsibility, and then changed their tune. I cannot recommend doing business with this unethical business. read more

I give them 5 thumbs up! I bring my cleaning in everytime I am in town. And they always get my specific requests done right. Its not the owner that runs the business its the manager and if there has been a concern she has personally called me to discuss. She has always been very reasonable and trust worthy and stands behind her work. I recomend this place to all the locals. I did have to call for directions to their new location, I dont think yelp is updated. But their new location is in the Burre Center shopping center. Quicker for me since its a shorter distance off freeway. read more

I walked into Norman's with a pile of items and had to stand there while the two women continued talking. When the one woman looked at some cushion covers, she said they could not take them because of the weave. The weave was an ordinary flat weave, with no "shaggy" weave or ornamental additions--it was a plain upholstery fabric. I'm pretty puzzled that they would not do the dry cleaning. read more

Horrible. They completely ruined my very expensive, WHITE La Perla blazer. It was turned into a light purple/mauve cast from some dye, and the clerk argued with me that that is how it was before. Unbelievable. I ended up just leaving it there, because it was unwearable. So upset. read more

Ruined my coat and then wouldn't take any responsibility. I took in a raincoat I've had for about 2 years. Showed the person at the counter the inside tag with the dry cleaning specifications. I got the coat back, and they had melted the interfacing (for those of you who don't know, the lining of the coat that helps it to keep its shape) to the coat, making bubbles in the fabric and creating a shine on the surface. I spoke with the manager several times. Bottom line is, she told me the interfacing was "too old" (in a 2-year old coat) and that she had some paperwork "somewhere" that explained that melting was a risk, and therefore they weren't responsible. I told her no one advised me there was a risk when I dropped off the coat, and she said "well, we can't tell EVERYBODY." Also, they didn't even offer to refund the $20+ that I paid to have them ruin my raincoat. Astounding. So Norman's didn't offer me one cent for my raincoat that was in slightly dirty but otherwise excellent condition that they melted. They did, however, settle with me just before I was about to file a lawsuit. By the way, Norman's, if you would have just worked with me at the beginning instead of being absolute a**es about the situation, I would have settled for a lot less. ;) read more

I wanted to like Norman's because their location is so convenient! The first couple experiences were great but this last time, they ruined my favorite blazer. When I took it out of the bag it had the most overwhelming chemical and mold smell. I hung it outside for a couple days but the smell was still noticeable from a few feet away. When I took it back in they acknowledged they were having problems with their machines and would redo for free (they whole store smells overwhelmingly like mold/chemicals!) When I picked it up, no change in smell. It's ruined. I won't be going back. read more

They charged me for a double de-lint and when I got my coat back it was still covered in dog hair and it had little white hair fibers all over it. I talked to the person at the desk and she said "we don't sit there and pick every little thing off of it" never going there again read more
