I had such a puzzling experience at Norman Cleaners yesterday. A very reputable source recommended Norman Cleaners for alterations. I read these reviews prior to going, but figured I'd give it a shot, after my experience at Al's Attire. Al's was great (review to follow) but I didn't want to spend an arm and a leg to have my "papaya" colored bridesmaids dress taken in...the necessary alterations were not rocket science, and I intend to wear the dress once. So, Rog and I walk in with our stuff.... Me: I hear you do alterations? I need to have this dress taken in. Strange Normans Cleaners Lady: You want to try it on? Me: Yes...I go try it on in this really really small corner that is seperated from busy Chestnut street with a thin white sheet. SNCL: Ahhh. Looks nice. You don't need to take it in. Looks nice. If you take it in it will be too tight. Me: Confused look....Um, no, it needs to be taken in. (The dress was huge...I could pull the top all the way down to my stomach...) SNCL: No. Looks nice. If you take it in, it will be too tight. (Smiles). Yes, yes, looks nice like that. I took my papaya dress off and walked it a cross the street to Walnut Cleaners, where she took it in almost two inches. I'm still confused. read more

I live in the Marina and started going here for convenience. Went here for 4 years, every time the bill was over $150. Granted I.have them launder my shirts (and I have a quite a few) I always just chalked it up the amount of laundry I brought in. One day I decided to examine the bill. Mistakes and overcharges galor. Asked for a price list, they said they only have a price list on the wall. None you can take home. Be assured i wont be coming back. As for the actual dry cleaning. It's hard to know where to go for clothing repairs--it can be REALLY hit or miss. After my favorite pair of pants were nearly ruined at a cleaners my friend had raved about, I vowed to never trust stellar reviews for a dry cleaner and would probably end up going to my trusty cleaners from back home. Driving out of the city to pick up my dry cleaning was a bit ridiculous, so I had to find somewhere new. Where to go? Norman Cleaners. Norman Cleaners is an inconspicuous shop wedged between trendy Chestnut restaurants and shops. I would have never known it was there, but it was obvious I was destined to find it when I realized the lovely cleaners at Norman had worked miracles on some items I was certain were ruined. This is the place to go for alterations. I hem every pair of my jeans and was tired of paying over $20 each time. My GF recommended Norman's and they do the same great job for the least amount compared to other cleaners around. I've had several evening gowns tailored here for under $20. I had a great experience with Norman Cleaners. I brought in an item that needed a new zipper. The woman at Norman's was very sweet to me, she did a great job, it was very reasonably priced, and she completed it quickly. I recommend Norman Cleaners for alterations. read more

For the person who complained about their service due to unrealistic expectations, give them another shot. I took my two brand new Rock & Republic jeans to them on a Monday. Asked them to keep the original hem. I was a bit apprehensive given what I had paid for the two pairs of designer jeans, but I took a leap of faith. Glad I did!!! I was promised a delivery date of Thursday. Thursday morning, I was there, my two jeans were ready, and they were beautifully done. No one can ever tell they were shortened, and not actually the original hem , done exactly to the length I wanted, very detailed work! And for the bargain price of $15.00 a pair, I'm as happy as a clam. read more

Relatively affordable, fast, friendly and pretty decent quality. Keep in mind that this isn't a place to take your expensive silk blouse & one of a kind cashmere sweater to be cleaned or a fancy dress that needs extensive alterations. What they are good for is your run of the mill dress shirts, sweaters and slacks as well as basic hemming needs and such. This dry cleaner doesn't deserve even a single star. They made a hole in the back of a favorite shirt. What made it worse was they they denied it! I'd never patronize this store. They lack ethics. read more

Don't ever go to this cleaner! Total rip-off and shady business practice. I told them to laundry my husbands shirts, asked for laundry prices & they said $1.75/shirt. I handed them 10 shirts. A week later I picked them up and the bill was $50 bucks. Wtf? They said they dry cleaned every shirt at $4.50/shirt. I said that I was a new customer and there was a misunderstanding. The old Chinese lady started to yell at me that it was my fault and said I wanted them dry cleaned. I said give me a break on this and she said no way. Anyway, they aren't about customer service or caring about keeping the customer. Another lost customer. read more

BEWARE! I returned yesterday from the dry cleaners to discover that 2 articles of clothing that are meant to get dry cleaned were completely ruined! One was a beautiful dress that was practically brand new. The second was a very nice jacket. Both the dress and jacket are ruined beyond repair. The dress lost all of its shine and color and looks damaged at the seams. I almost cried. And every single button on my jacket got extremely damaged. I do not even want to look at the rest of the clothes I got dry cleaned because I am scared of what else I might find. PLEASE do yourself a favor and do not spend your money here. You may not regret it the first time, but eventually something special to you (or multiple things special to you like in my case) will get ruined! read more

Save yourself the aggravation and don't go there. They flat out said they don't care about customers, which is a curious way to run a service business. I brought back a dress, which had spots that were not on the dress when I brought it in for cleaning and alterations. The woman at the front yelled at me and blamed it on "the woman." I still don't know who "the woman" is. I asked her to stop yelling, but she couldn't seem to control herself. When I said that I was a regular customer, she replied, "I don't care." read more

This place was recommended to me by my cousin who has lived in the Marina since the early 80's (you would infer to trust her judgment then). So I dropped off some clothes at the cleaners that needed to get done by noon today because i'm leaving for the airport at 1:40. Granted, I didn't give them much time, but my cousin swore that they could have had them done same day (as in yesterday afternoon). Well, I roll in at 12:30 and after frantically looking for my stuff, they came up short and told me to give them another 1/2 hour. I gave you a 1/2 hour already and I don't have another 1/2 hour to give you because I need to go blow dry my hair for the last time in the next 4 weeks (the diva comes out). I'm bummed, thank gd I don't need any of that stuff for the trip, I just didn't want it to sit in filth while I was gone. Oh, and they charged me $14 instead of $14.50 for the inconvenience. Do not go there. I took a dress for the shoulder straps to be taken in - easy you would think - when I went back, they had taken it in too tight, even though they had taken the measurements - and I asked if they could un-tighten it. All I got was attitude. Second time I went back, they totally ignored me and the fact that I was re-trying the dress to make sure it was done properly this time and woudln't answer any of my questions. I ended up taking my dress somewhere else for it to be repaired.... read more

This is the worst place ever. STAY AWAY. I took a drape panel to be shortened and two pillows to be covered in fabric. The job was terrible. The woman tried to convince me that it was fine, when it clearly wasn't, and she screamed at me that she couldn't fix it, b/c the "tailor" went to China indefinitely. read more

I have never been yelled at by a drycleaner, who then pounded his fists on the counter, swore at me and threatened to call the police!! I took my sons new pants to be hemmed, NOT shortened. In some language lapse, the pants were shortened by several inches, making them totally unuseable when my son grows. When I complained about this, the old lady feigned no knowledge and her son (return to original comment) yelled at me that I should have TOLD THEM NOT TO CUT ALL THE GROWTH POTENTIAL OUT OF THE PANTS, pounded his fists on the counter, swore at me and told he that he was going to call the police.
