Very poor customer service. Office staff is very unprofessional. Have reached out multiple times for my X-Rays (that were paid for) for my own personal documentation after being told one thing the day of visit and another the next day when I had to reach out for a future treatment plan. I wasn't given one at the end of my appointment because I was told I was the last customer that day so I didn't receive anything. Obviously the staff was trying to leave (This was on a Tuesday). It has now been 4 days with over 7 phone call request that has not been responded too. I ask why an admin person in the front desk can not send it over and I'm told that they are busy with other customers. You can't be busy the whole day with customers for a small private office like this. Are the Admin people also helping in the back with dental work ? Or what is making them so busy for a 8 hour day that they can not respond to their patients for a simple request that was paid for? The care here for being a DENTAL office needs to be better as people look for truthful and honest offices to have work done at. Night and Day difference from my previous dentist. Although the location isn't the nicest in San Francisco, it's convenient to go to both via a car, uber or if you take the bus. It's located right on Mission St so you know the area has what you'd say, je ne sais quoi or personality if you will. I didn't a problem with anyone that works here and Dr Quimson was very informative and seemed very confident. Not once did I feel I was forced into a sale unlike other dental offices. The price quote for my treatment plan seems to be straight forwards and I hope that it stays that way. A+ read more

I miss going to her as my dentist. She was my favorite dentist growing up (my familly switched insurance companies a lot, so my dentists got switched a lot also). The dude I go to now seems like he doesn't give a shit about my teeth..he gives me a cleaning, doesn't find the cavities that I know I have, and tells me to bounce. He prolly just wants our dollars.. Heads up! From the moment you pick up the phone to make your appointment to wrapping up your first visit - be prepared to muster all of your patience for the gal at the desk who will try your last tooth nerve. Example: I called because of a painful emergency which I explained in detail several times to the woman over phone. She repeated back to me that she understood what I was saying and then offered me an appointment a month and a half into the future. I had to wonder if she was that vapid or she was intentionally messing with me. Either way, it will require your best meditation practice to stay calm. I could go on but I'll just say that my continued encounters with her didn't get any better from that first frustrating call. Dr Quimson is fantastic! She's very thorough and extemely nice. And she's good enough with the ol' Novacain that I've never had a twinge of pain in her chair. She remembers you from visit to visit and is very friendly. Although I can only give a subjective opinion, her skils seem way above par. I'm very happy to have her as my dentist, and I've been going to her practically every week for the last few months (don't ask!). The other thing I want to mention is the woman who does the deep cleaning. She's also fantastic. The thing I notice most about her is how gentle she is. Five stars, richly deserved. (The front desk personnel seems different every other time I go there, but the ones I've seen have always been very polite - if not always the quickest at determining your bill and making your next appoinment. Four stars for them.) [Updated several months later] Unfortunately, the last session I had with Dr Quimson was not as satisfactory as all the preceding ones. I mentioned before that I had no pain in her chair, over the course of at least five sessions. The last time, the Novocain didn't hit the spot. The pain itself wasn't terrible, but because I kept reflexively jerking my head, she wasn't really able to finish the job. She tried two other shots of Novocain, but she just couldn't numb the area. As a result, that part of my teeth aren't done. I still have pain there when I chew, so I can't use that side of my mouth. This is disappointing after spending so many hours in that chair. I feel that Dr Quimson knew the job wasn't finished, but either couldn't or wouldn't numb the area sufficiently to enable her to do so. Based on my prior experience with her (which was great), I think this is probably an uncommon occurence. Nevertheless, I will be choosing a new dentist. read more

Dr. Quimson is the best dentist I have ever been to. On my first visit, she was extremely thorough with checking all of my teeth. Maybe I just haven't had a good dentist before, but I don't remember any of my previous dentists checking and scoring every tooth and every part of my gum line during the first appointment. She was also extremely friendly and put me right at ease. This morning, I saw her partner Dr. Yip for a teeth cleaning and a cavity filling. Dr. Yip is similarly very friendly and easygoing. She is also very thorough and explained in detail every thing that she was doing to me while she was doing it. It was a really great experience. The only reason why I'm not giving this place five stars is that it is difficult to get a timely appointment. The first time I scheduled an appointment, I had to schedule for an appointment one month in advance, which was a little annoying. NOTE: You have to park on the street, but it's not too difficult. NOTE 2: Don't be put off by the old sign and old decor. The dental service here is really top notch! read more

She has a way of telling you blatant truths about your teeth but doesn't make you feel bad for any neglect you've done to them. This review is not about the services, it's about the scheduling policy for new patients. This office will not allow you to schedule an appointment if you have a DMO plan until you have your dental insurance card in hand with Dr.Quimson's name on it. This policy makes no sense. As long as you have the card by the appointment date, which is when insurance should be billed, why not let people schedule an appointment and move on to organizing the rest of their lives. I don't know if I'll go to the trouble of scheduling an appointment here, given how uncooperative they are with new patients. read more

I feel bad about giving only 2 stars to Quimson Dental, as Dr. Quimson deserves a 5. But I have to rate the experience as a whole. I gave 2 stars because of the front desk woman, who is a bitter old asian lady. She made the experience very frustrating. I arrived for my appointment and was told that an emergency patient came in, so it would just be "a few more minutes." Which was fine. After about 20 minutes past my appointment time, I told the front desk woman that I needed to be finished with my appointment within the next hour or so, in order to get back to work in time. So if the emergency patient was going to be much longer, then I should reschedule. She told me that she would check with the doctor, but just sat there instead. After another 5 minutes I politely asked her if she was going to check with the doctor. She acted very irritated and told me "once you are seated I will check". Not wanting to cause a fuss, I said nothing and took a seat, but she still just sat there. After a couple more minutes I just told her that I would need to reschedule. She then gave me a dirty look, signed, and walked to the back. She came back and told me again that it would just be "a few minutes." I told her again that I needed to get back to work and if she didn't know if I was going to be seen in time then I would need to reschedule. She got very irritated and told me to just be patient. I decided to just wait just a bit longer and after 7 minutes, Dr. Quimson called me in. My appointment went well as Dr. Quimson was professional and curious. She even took extra time with me to answer all my questions about teeth grinding, and what I should do about it. In short, I have to think twice about giving a recommendation to Quimson Dental due frustrating administration (ie the front desk lady) update: I had forgotten to mention the issue I had with transferring my records from my previous dentist to Quimson Dental. My previous dentist took digital x-rays, which are viewed on a computer screen rather than a physical copy. Before I came in for my first visit to Quimson Dental, I spoke by phone to the same front desk lady I wrote about previously. (Her voice is very distinctive so I know it was her.) I told her that my previous dentist had emailed me my digital x-rays and so I asked for the office email address so that I can forward them. The front desk lady told me that they need the physical x-rays. I tried to explain to her that these are digital x-rays and that physical copies don't exist. She insisted that I needed to send in physical copies or they would have to new x-rays. I told her that the only option for physical copies was if they were printed out, but I really doubted that this would be sufficient for the doctor. After a lot of back and forth, I FINALLY convinced her to give me the office email address by saying "Please! Just let me email the x-rays to the doctor." She reluctantly gave me the office email address. A day later Dr. Quimson called me and said that the x-rays were sufficient and we didn't need to take new ones. This is very frustrating as the front desk lady apparently had never dealt with digital x-rays before and didn't even want to let me forward them to the doctor. If I didn't plead with her on the phone to show the doctor my x-rays, than I would have had to pay out of pocket for new ones. (As with most insurance policies, x-rays are only covered periodically. There was no reason to take new ones as I already had recent ones from my previous dentist.) read more

I chose this office because it is very close to where I live- but I keep going here because Dr. Quimson is a fabulous dentist and her receptionist Tina is very friendly and does her job well. Dealing with insurance is often a pain, but Tina usually figures out my co-pay before treatment, and sometimes it is even lower than I expected. I have sent my very-sensitive and scared-of-dentists husband to Dr. Q, and she did an excellent job with his cleaning and Tina took care of all of his insurance and paperwork beforehand making the process easy-peasy. I do have to schedule my dental care in advance because they are often busy, but for the quality of care, it is worth it. Whenever I had an urgent need or question, Tina or Dr. Q are quick to get back to me during their business hours. They also have a great working relationship with Orthoworks for Braces, and when issues come up related to my braces, Dr. Q has been very quick to address them and to communicate to Orthoworks to quickly resolve any dental-ortho issue I might have. I love coming here, because I appreciate being well taken care of, having a thorough cleaning and exam, and being treated as a friendly neighbor. read more

This dentist scammed me!!! Do not go! I found this dentist online and went in for a check-up after never having a cavity on my adult teeth and noticing some sensitivity on a few of my teeth. I was told I would need 10 FILLINGS plus root scaling to deep clean my gums. They took a full set of X-rays, which were never shown to me and when I had the X-rays sent to me electronically afterwards they were not readable by the two dentists who gave me second and third opinions (during which I was told I only needed one filling, and root scaling was completely unnecessary I just need to keep up my flossing). I am so glad to have gotten out of there fast and would NOT recommend. read more

I tried to address an administrative issue with her directly and received little to zero acknowledgement for what was happening. And instead of listening and addressing the issue, I received a reply of, "well then, I'll just make sure I don't call you ever again." This is the type of resolution a five year-old can even make. I just had my first appt w/ Dr. Quimson. Called on Tuesday, had an appointment Thursday. I arrived on time, but had a heck of a time finding parking. Parking is usually easy in this neighborhood, but the church next door was having a function & the streets were packed. I called to let them know I was there, but looking for parking. The receptionist actually came outside, while on the phone w/ me to help look for a spot. She found one, but it was a Smart car parking space, not SUV parking space. She assured me it would be ok there. I figured she knew the 'hood better than I, so I left my car & hoped no one from the building came home while I was in the chair. Front office is small, but comfortable. Signing in as a new patient was easy and painless. Was brought to the chair right away, no waiting and the doctor arrived. Dr. Quimson was very professional and courteous. Wonderful bed side manner. I was nervous after a 4 year hiatus since having all 4 wisdom teeth pulled at once. I was traumatized, but Dr. Quimson put me at ease. She is very gentle & I was impressed when she started checking my teeth & recited some very doctor/clinical/smarty pants words and series of numbers in rapid succession. She explained in layman terms what they meant & why she was calling out numbers. Supercalafagalistic = Cavities, 2 means "GOOD", 5 means "BAD". It calmed my nerves to understand what she was talking about as I sat the chair w/ lights and metal objects in my mouth. She is quite genuine and I appreciated her candor as we spoke about my dental care, now and in the future. I sense she has real concern for your well being. I go back for my first cleaning next week. I'll let you know how it goes. Summary: Dr. has great bed side manner. Staff was great, everyone was friendly. Office and facilities are clean and comfortable. I strongly disagree with what the other reviews said against the front desk lady. She is very friendly and always keep me company, especially when the doctor is running a little behind. It wasn't her fault that we sometimes have to wait because of the busy schedule. When i need an appointment. She never forgets me and she actually calls me for any opening.
