I had such an amazing experience at Ocean Breeze Dentistry with Dr. Michelle that I honestly felt like I needed to take the time to leave a detailed review. I originally went in because I had been dealing with some tooth pain for a few days, and I was pretty nervous about what the issue might be. I've had dental anxiety in the past, so I wasn't exactly looking forward to the visit but this office completely changed that for me. From the moment I walked in, the front desk staff was so welcoming and kind, which immediately helped calm my nerves. The office itself is very clean, modern, and has a really relaxing atmosphere. It doesn't feel intimidating like some dental offices can. When I met Dr. Michelle, she was incredibly patient and reassuring. She took the time to really listen to what I was experiencing and didn't make me feel rushed at all. Before doing anything, she explained what she thought might be going on and walked me through the process step by step so I knew exactly what to expect. That alone made a huge difference for me. It turned out I needed a filling, which I was honestly worried about, but Dr. Michelle made the entire procedure so smooth and comfortable. She was very gentle the whole time, checked in with me throughout, and made sure I wasn't feeling any pain. I was surprised at how easy it felt definitely not the stressful experience I had built up in my head. What really stood out to me is how much she genuinely cares about her patients. I waited a while before reviewing on this site due to me potentially using her again in the future as she likely monitors reviews here. She accepts DENTI-CAL(Medi-cal) so its a plus because most dentists will not accept it all, likely due to low reimbursement rates, although im seeing a handful of others that are willing to accept it as well, so i suggest checking out other ones before going to this one. First of all, dont expect any treatment on the first day as a new patient if you have an immediate problem, or a new problem she will only do exams(x-rays, oral exams) and will schedule a later date for a treatment plan, which is odd but somewhat understandable. this is where the problem lies though if you attempt tell her a new problem, question she will immediately stop the appt and cancel right then and there and reschedule for another day this happened several times over the course of months, which prolonged the amount of appts i needed from her. my advice, let her do whatever she needs to do during your appointments(cleanings, cavaties,,,etc) and then when you are home, or days later contact her office(email,text) about the new problems so she doesnt stop the appoints every single time. shes only open WED-FRI very limited times so be careful about contacting her office as you likely wont get a response if you dont contact her outside of her office hours. communication with patients is something to look for, which may result in disastified appointments or being misinformed. if you have more complex dental issues, like continued sensitivity, pain, or other you likely have to seek a specialist elsewhere(as it could be root canal related) she will not be doing it or doesn't see an immediate need and will dismiss you concerns if you keep telling her about a continuing tooth problem after a simple procedure from her, she isnt knowledgable in it. this is only for DENTI-CAL patients review, dont take this as every Insurance experience. i will amend this review in her favor, if im getting denti-cal again and get satisfactory care from her,. read more

Do not go to this dentist under any circumstances. I went here for a checkup, and got x-rays. This dentist is breaking the law, and giving people fillings for non-existent cavities. After the checkup, the dentist said: "Now we'll take care of the cavities the computer didn't catch'. I've never been to a dishonest dentist, so it never occurred to me that there literally are no such cavities. If there's no evidence of cavities on the x-rays or scans, there are no cavities. I was subjected to 2 'fillings' that day for cavities that did not exist. I want to be absolutely clear about this: Dr. Pilones "drilled and filled healthy teeth. She must be doing this regularly. Who knows how many of her patients have undergone procedures that there was zero diagnostic basis for. Stop and think about this--morally, ethically and medically. She produced a 'treatment plan' for 8 additional fillings... which I have a copy of. I took it to another dentist, who I do enthusiastically recommend (Toothology, brilliant dentist). She examined the teeth that 'Dr. Pilones' had marked for fillings, none of them had cavities. This dentist should be barred from practice. Do not go here under any circumstances. Although I am extremely upset about this, and will file a formal complaint, the reason I am leaving this review is to protect other people who may be at risk from this dentist's greed and amoral practices. read more

It's been more than 5 times that I have seen Dr. Michelle. She is super efficient and takes time to answer all my concerns! I recently had all my silver fillings replaced as they were failing. Dr. Michelle also made sure I was comfortable the whole time I was in the procedure room. The office itself small but super clean, as well as the restroom. Assistant Nissa is very welcoming. The office also has a texting system where you don't need to call them for any schedule changes. The downside is that the office gets book up pretty quickly and opens limited days a week. I am so grateful for Dr. Pilones! I had been having unbearable pain for 8 months and went to multiple dentists (even dental specialists) to get a diagnosis but no one was able to help me. At one point I was told to go see a neurologist because It was probably neurological. I was feeling hopeless since I wasn't getting any help but I knew It had to be something with my teeth. So, I decided to schedule a consult with Dr. P and I am so happy I did! Within minutes she was able to diagnose me with a pretty bad tooth crack. She has helped me so much and I am now feeling so much better! Nissa is also a sweetheart! She is such a joy to talk to. With that said, I 1000% recommend Dr. P and Nissa to anyone! They also LISTENED to my issues before even asking me about my insurance when I told them about my pain. Even when I told them I had Denti-Cal that attitude didn't change and still gave me A+ treatment (other places gave me the cold-shoulder once Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal were mentioned...not them though). I found them as one of the only options in my area that take Denti-Cal and was a little wary, BUT I'm glad I found them, and will be working with them once I get regular insurance back, even if that means making a drive from East Bay. I picked this dentist cause they accepted Denti-Cal and were close to my house. They are all very nice and polite and some of these negative reviewers seem to not understand Dr. Pilones sense of humor. My issue is with the fact that they have upsold or tried to upsell me on expensive procedures, EVERY TIME I have gone in there. If we didn't have a falling out through a very petty series of text messages, I would probably have an all diamond grill in 10 years. These people are business-oriented and they Always Be Closing. The first time I needed a deep cleaning and paid out of pocket as Denti-Cal did not cover it. The next time they said the electric toothbrush which THEY RECOMMENDED specifically for my gums, had eroded part of my gums and now I need thousand dollar surgery for that. In addition to the regular cleanings outside of the Denti-Cal covered ones. I have a sneaking suspicion that if I could not afford the first deep cleaning out of pocket, they would not have tried to sell me on the other stuff, but of course that is conjecture. Finally, they recently texted me about my next appointment, making sure to remind me of the $50 cancellation fee if cancelled less than 48 hours of the appointment. I replied 'NO' to cancel. The next day they sent me this message again. I replied 'NO', this time with a brief explanation about how we are in a pandemic and this is a non-essential appointment. The next day they texted me again. This time I lost it and responded with a expletive-ridden rant of how I knew they were money-grubbing charlatans and to lose my number. They finally responded apologizing for automated texts and I have attached a photo of the texts that followed. Pretty petty for a "Doctor's" office, in my opinion. +2 stars for the location and the politeness of the staff (in person). -3 stars for the constant upselling, bad medical advice on the toothbrush (which supposedly eroded my gums), poor customer service, and general pettiness from a professional. read more

The only reason I'm giving Ocean Breeze Dentistry a two star rating is because they were going to be able to see me the next day. The process of filling out the forms online was simple. I also like that the office can text you versus having to talk on the phone. The day of my appointment I stupidly left my AirPods in the Uber I took and ended up being about 12 minutes late to my appointment. I did text the office and they were fine with me running late. Upon arriving at the door to the office there was a sign stating to call their office and let them know I was there. I did this, and I also text them more than once. I stood outside for about 10 minutes before I finally left. I understand that Covid practices need to be followed, but at the same time not answering phones and taking over ten minutes to respond to multiple texts is just not acceptable to me. They did text me and offer me to come back and apologized repeatedly but if you are having people text versus answering your phones then I suggest pay more attention to whatever text system you use. I now get to find another dentist and still have horrible tooth pain. read more

I have to be honest, I was ready to cancel my appointment an hour before the schedule because the reviews scared THE CRAP out of me. I then spoke to an assistant named Joana who was very warm and friendly. She explained the past situation regarding the negative reviews and to my point of view, it wasn't necessarily the entire clinic's fault. So then, I decided to give it a shot. As soon as I walked in, Joana welcomed me and made me feel at ease. The clinic looked organized and sanitary. I then met with Dr.Pilones who was so much nicer than I thought. She had this sarcastic sense of humor which I understand not all people appreciate- but I certainly did hahaha. She was very sweet and engaging, but also definitely straightforward. It's just that some people get thrown aback when dentists don't sugarcoat the problem (pun intended xD). Nevertheless, she was still an amazing dentist: Gentle, efficient, knowledgable, hilarious, and ironically sweet. I can tell that they are trying their best to redeem themself. I usually don't write reviews unless i absolutely love a place, and i absolutely LOVE THIS PLACE i seriously do! Never would I have ever thought i would enjoy going to the dentist. Good service, minimal pain, and lots of great tips!!!!! Doctor Pilones is so professional and down to earth. She has bought my teeth and confidences back, and i can't thank her enough. I was a long time chain smoker with old metal fillings all over my mouth and when i got pregnant with my first son my teeth was cracking i got it removed and it was kinda a botched job so i was hesitant to see someone else for another tooth that got weaken for my second pregnancy i also went to another location where the guy dentist was in his workout clothes and i swear he was hitting on me. Sooo when i finally got to Dr. pilones, i didn't have high hopes, but then she got down to business. I have been extremely fortunate to have had a couple of great dentists in my life, and my luck seems to keep rolling bc today I had the pleasure of having Dr. pilones work on me. Dr. Michelle Pilones, I'm writing because I was unfairly treated by a dentist that I've only meet 3 times. It wasn't until my second visit that I began thinking about asking her and her staff to behave more professionally and that I'd appreciate it if they offer to warn before she dug into my mouth and before forcing a needle into my gums. She's always in a rush and she doesn't communicate well, so I never know what to expect during our visits. Visiting with her leads toward my prescribed anxiety (and I told her this). She is not a good communicator and she rushes me in and out of the chair,  and she doesn't take her time when working with me, she's always in a rush. The relationship was strained from the beginning.  I believe she looked down on me from the very first meeting because of my race and sex (it's been years since I've experienced anything like this, nut growing up in the southeast - I've been here before "I know it when I see it"). During my last visit, I told her that I don't appreciate her and her staff's unprofessionalism She finished her work on my that day and her office rescheduled me for my last appointment. A week or so later her office call to inform me that they no longer want to see me.  I was just trying to be honest with her and her staff. I also wanted to be treated with respect. I truly decided to address her honesty and she jerked me around and acted aggressively. I asked if she could put herself in my shoes (as a patient) and she responded by saying "put yourself in my shoes...I have patience back-to-back all day; then I thought to myself "is that really my problem". I don't think patients should be mistreated like especially if they're in a position to not know where to find help and fair treatment. When the dentist says I need a night gard and I could fing one on amazon if cost is an issue, that's totally ok. But then when her assistant comes in right afterwards and tells me I need one and insurance doesn't cover it and it'll be $595.00 that's hella tacky. Also that same assistant when she was doing my xrays that she prided herself on how quickly she can do them and halfway through them I realized that that I didn't have a lead blanket over me scares me. read more

I want to start by saying this is only my 2nd Yelp review ever; meaning I don't make it a habit to just complain about businesses. The other review that I wrote was actually an exceptional one about a great hotel that we stayed at in Portland. I also want to say that it has been a week since my kid's dental appointments w/Dr. Pilones so I have had time to think about the situation and I still feel like a review is needed. I would like to start with the positive: the office was very clean and the two other women there were very welcoming and professional. Before booking the appointments, I read the Yelp reviews - there was one bad one, but the other reviews were good so I figured maybe that person had a rare, unfortunate experience so I went ahead and made appointments for my three children (3,4, and 8). I made these appointments because I was pretty sure that my kid's had cavities and I wanted to get them taken care of before they began to cause any discomfort. I would also like to say that for a lot of people, the dentist can be a vulnerable place to go. As I thought, my two daughters had some cavities, but my son had none. Dr. Pilones told me that my son "had the great teeth, but my daughters, had horrible ones - especially the older one." She also talked to me about each child individually and when speaking to me about my daughters, her demeanor was one of disgust. I felt like she was "tooth shaming" me for my daughters having cavities. Again, we were there to get help, not to be talked down upon. Our insurance is through Medi-Cal and I'm not sure if I was spoken to the way that I was because of that or if she treats everyone that way. Before leaving, I made a follow up appointment for my eight year old to have her cavities filled as well as a six month check up for all three of them, but the more I thought about it, the more I didn't want my kids seeing Dr.Pilones again. My husband who had no verbal interaction with her, but saw her in the waiting area asked me if she was nice because something about her presence rubbed him the wrong way, I told him, actually you're right, she was pretty rude. The final determining factor when deciding to cancel my kid's future appointments was when I asked my eight year old what she thought about her new dentist and her response was: "she was mean and told me that I was a bad girl for having cavities. I don't want to go back there." Again, this was just our experience, if you decide to go there, I hope that you have the opposite experience of what we had. After reading some of the other reviews I thought to myself, are we talking about the same person? Without going into too much detail, I came here for the first time for a cavity. Dr.P is extremely cold and unprofessional. She doesn't like when you ask questions so just forget about that. She will interrupt you when you speak and act like you have offended her expertise for asking. Didn't care about my dental history, in fact she rather not speak to you at all if possible. Overall it was an unpleasant experience, I never came back for the filling because she was trying to get me to do a crown and possible root canal. this clinic is a scam. after informing ann, the intake worker on the phone (she works from home and records phone conversations without informing client..illegal in california) that i was on dentical and needed a flipper tooth after #7 was extracted. she said no problem and set up an appointment. i told the dental tech, claudia, that i need a flipper for #7 and i was referred to her by ms. antipov at cosmo dental @ 490 post street. she claimed that, yes, they do refer clients to ocean breeze and ocean breeze refers clients to cosmo. the reason this is odd is ms. antipov knew i wanted a flipper and ms. pilones could accommadate me. claudia took full mouth xrays even though i explained it wasn't necessary. after taking the exrays she said dentical doesn't pay for a flipper tooth. ocean breeze never got approval from dentical and i would have to pay out of pocket. i knew she was lying. i have spoken to several representatives at dentical and they assured me it was covered. this practice is scamming dentical. by requiring many xrays and not applying for procedures and lying that they weren't approved, they make money on the xrays and then from the client who is paying out of pocket and vulnerable because they are indigent and feel uncomfortable without a tooth. first, let me say i don't believe ms. pilones is a doctor. i plan on contacting the authorities in this matter. after reading the reviews, thank god, i never met her because i left after claudia literally threw me out of the office because i challenged her. i told her i will be contacting dentical with this felony and the california dental board. they are criminals and i will follow my legal expertise to, hopefully, put them out of business or at least get them off the dentical website. if ms. pilones lost her license, no great loss. read more
