I recently relocated to SF from Fresno post divorce (Trust me IT's A GOOD THING), and need to establish care with a new dentist. So, As usual, where do I search? Yelp, of course... DUH. Anyhow, I scheduled a cleaning and went. There I was greeted by Dr. Maritza Merejo, a diminutive human with colossal skills. I was expecting a hygienist for the cleaning, but she did it herself! I found that perplexing and satisfying at once. She was very gentle and gave me a lot of good tips in regard to brushing and flossing. Did you know there is good brushing/flossing and also TOO MUCH??? I didn't, I guess I was overzealous on certain teeth and she saw it!!! She also had this cool tool with the X-Ray which utilized AI to point out areas of interest. (first time for me) Thankfully none of my interesting areas were cavities. Just some cracks and whatnot... I went back about a week later to fix a chip I've had on my front tooth for a minute and whatever she did, a composite of sorts, has stayed intact! Surprising to me because it tends to chip! Horrible customer service. Staff not helpful at all and very rude. Hung up on me just because I asked for X-rays.

Dr. Ron was very patience with me. He showed me the X-ray he took and explained how my gum lines can recede due to plague build up. He did a very thorough cleaning going down as far as I can tolerate, pain wise. Then he helped me with my filling making sure all my tooth were even afterward. I arrived from my appointment and filled out 15 minutes of paperwork before being told my insurance wouldn't let me see the provider. Kid at the front desk tells me I can only switch during open enrollment (false). So I scheduled the appointment, left work early, and sat in the office for 20 minutes for nothing. I suggested (literally said " I suggest in the future....") that they ask on the phone if the patient plans on using insurance, and if they say "yes" verifying it is not an HMO*. Kid gets super defensive and argues with me. Like, literally, just say ok and then don't do it. I find out I could switch my HMO provider immediately and go to my appointment, but I'll not be giving them my business. I'll go to one of the 2 other dentists within walking distance. Maybe someday they'll hire a receptionist with a bit of tact. *HMO requires you visit a specific provider you get assigned to, apparently. read more

I fractured my teeth and had it removed here. I wasn't informed that the other half of all three of my fractured teeth was left in and not pulled out. I only found out from the my family Dentist and then I had to find an oral surgeon to go in and remove it. read more

Dr. Tanega is great! I have to say that I am very happy with his work so far. He has really taken the time to explain the procedures to me. After he did the initial X-Rays, he spent 45 minutes explaining the situation about each tooth, what my options were and what he was going to do next. My previous dentist has never spent more than 5 minutes on the X-Ray results. He also offered me K-cups coffee on the way out one day. I thought that was really nice. He is really sweet and friendly and makes you feel super comfortable. I was kind of nervous about getting a tooth filling, but it was quite a painless procedure thanks to him. I didn't even feel the huge injection in my gum because he had previously numbed the area so well. I'll probably be going to him for the next few months as I have some follow up dental work to be done. Oh, and did I mention that the assistant Russell is super friendly too? I am glad to have found them. They are also very convenient with their appointment timings and I can come in after work during the week or during the morning on a Saturday. I am glad to have this option so I don't need to request time off from work for an appointment. read more

Dr Tanega saves the day! My situation: I had a chipped front tooth that was previously repaired by another dentist. That repair failed yesterday due to 'user error'. I currently don't have a regular dentist, so I was very distraught about looking for a new dentist AND trying to get this sorted at the same time. I couldn't go around looking like Jim Carrey in Dumb&Dumber for long! Precision Dental: I called the office, and they were able to book me on the same day! The front office staff was very courteous and professional. The office is brand new, so everything looks very clean and modern. Dr. Tanega fixed my tooth right up! He really took his time to make the bite perfect and make it look great. He also took some x-rays to make sure there was no nerve involvement. I am so happy with the end result. Thank you! read more

I am so glad I found Precision Dental. They are the friendliest, most professional dentist's office that I have been to in San Francisco. I wish that I had found them sooner and not wasted time, money and received subpar dental services from places like Gentle Dental in the past. Dr. Tanega is so friendly, knowledgeable and makes you completely comfortable. In contrast, at Precision Dental, Dr. Tanega will ask you from time to time "are you OK?" or "how is that?" I have been very blessed with healthy teeth (thanks mom!) and I have never had to have any serious dental work done (except having my too-highly-connected- frenulum cut out when I was in college - barf) but the scraping of tartar can be nerve-racking and cause sensitivity, but Dr. Tanega is so gentle and careful that I have never had any pain or discomfort. The other thing I really like is he suctions your saliva a lot, lol. I have had dentists who forget to do that for so long, that I felt like my choices were to choke,or swallow a mouth full of saliva! There is a TV mounted over the dental chair and you can pick what you want to watch, I don't opt for that though because Dr. Tanega is a good conversationalist. Some other things I really like about this office is there is a tiny "parking lot" with room enough for about 3- 4 cars, the office is so clean, fresh and organized, everything looks clean and brand new and best of all: the receptionist is sooo nice, helpful and friendly! When I walk in the office he says "Hi Emma, go on back if you're ready". He is so friendly in helping to schedule your appointment, they will even text you! Even though I have only been there twice, I feel like their most cherished, long-time customer! read more

Probably the best dentist I've ever been to; I'm old, so I've been to a lot. i went to get my antiquated lower denture relined and Dr. Tanega showed me some new materials they're using. i don't usually like an up-sell, but there was no sales pressure here, just giving me info to consider. i went ahead & ordered an entirely new denture & it's not exaggerating to say it's been life-changing: much lighter in weight, takes up far less space in my mouth, doesn't irritate my gums like the old one did - ALL GOOD. Dr. Tanega is delightful, kind & respectful & Russell, the office mgr is a total doll, couldn't be more helpful. add to that the prices are highly competitive (I checked out some other dentists) and it's 1 block from BART and the freeway entrance - what's not to like? i know i sound like a bogus ad, but when i find a good service provider i get pretty happy. read more

I have not been to a new dentist for 18 years until now. And they did a fantastic job! They fixed two filling, and fixed a crown. And it didn't hurt at all! We didn't even have to use novocaine and there was no pain, so I definitely recommend them. Everything is super clean and they are super professional! read more

My prior dentist told me I could not put a bridge on the upper right side because there was insufficient support. Dr. Ron at Precision Dental said he could put a bridge in there. I got my new bridge put in, and Dr. Ron did a fantastic job. He is a perfectionist, and when it comes to your teeth, this is what you want. I haven't had many dentists before, mostly because I dread the experience however I can whole heartily say Doctor Tanega is the best I ever meet. He takes time to explain about your problem and most importantly explain what to do to avoid future complications. His care in procedure is excellent and tries to make you comfortable. I really don't write reviews, but since Yelp helped me find this dentist I thought I'd share the love. This was a really good experience - modern office and technology, friendly staff and dentist, didn't wait for a minute, he does the cleaning himself, and then he fixed my chipped tooth quickly and well and told me even if insurance didn't cover the whole thing I would not be on the hook. So I didn't pay a dime and got great service - this is different from my previous experience at dental offices where everything costs more than expected and if feels like they are always trying to squeeze more money out. Most excellent service! Dr. Tenega has very friendly bedside manner and takes the time to explain exactly what he is doing and why. He is also not quick to suggest a laundry list of expensive procedures, but only suggests what really needs to be done. His x-ray equipment is linked to a flat screen TV so it isn't a pain to view your x-rays. There is cable and a massage chair, what more could one ask for? Speaking from the point-of-view of a person who is very fearful of the dentist, I have never left Precision Dental in a foul or terrible mood. Precision has excellent service, a great atmosphere and I feel like a valued customer. Thanks for the warm welcomes, phone calls and emails- I am slowly losing my fear of the dentist. Ron is clearly a very knowledgeable dentist, who dispenses his knowledge about proper oral hygiene in a way that makes it clear he truly cares about his patients. Going to the dentist is rarely fun, but with Precision Dental Care the biggest compliment I can pay it is that it's NOT like going to the dentist. Ron is super friendly and he will engage you in conversation as best he can given the circumstances in order to distract you from whatever discomfort you are experiencing. At least that's my take on it. My wife had nothing but horrible dentist experiences in the past that consisted of a wonderful combination of price gougers and incompetent imbeciles. After just a few visits with Ron she has regained her faith in the dentistry industry. She hadn't had a cleaning in over a year and she was surprised at the level of care and detail she received at Precision Dental Care, and the amount of time Ron spent with her to get her teeth properly cleaned.
