I am a wish planner for Make-A-Wish and was working on a quinceanera wish for a young lady in San Mateo. I had the opportunity to work with DJ Hugo on this wish and he made things so easy and smooth from day one! His website has a great planning tool as well that came in handy for communicating key pieces of the party program. Really wish I could recommend this DJ but our wedding was canceled due to Covid and we were not able to book them. You would think under the circumstances they would be understanding but instead they just said that our money was non refundable, shows what kind of people truly run this operation. I would absolutely not recommend these type of people for anyone's wedding in the future. He will personally work with event coordinator and other vendors contracted with the event to keep the schedule on time and if any last minute changes occur he is quick to take the initiative by being able to see a problem, work it through calmly in his head, and think through to find the most logical, and all-around-best solution. We contracted with Hugo to DJ our wedding on May 1. He showed up early, was set up prior to guests arrival, and had a positive attitude and contagious energy that had our guests dancing all night long. He played all our requested songs and guest requests with a nice blend to appeal to the variety of our guest's preferences. Announcements were executed clearly and prompt. Hugo from Norcal DJs was my wedding DJ. When I was planning my wedding I knew that I wanted some fun, wedding appropriate music, "sweat running down my..." was just not going to work on my wedding day. I also wanted some Mexican corridos and a little banda...but if anyone played "Suavemente", I might just cry...oh wait, and I also needed my wedding DJ to play "Eh Magdalenha" for my samba dancers who would walk in right after I tossed the bouquet followed by a conga line to "Danza Kuduro." I wouldn't say that I was a bridezilla, my wedding was a blast, all the details were well worth it and boy did Hugo play a huge role in the fun that we had. The music was so good and so thoughtfully paired with all the events of the night that I had guests dancing in between courses. I'm not kidding!!! It was awesome!!! I had guests asking me for his playlist. The dance floor was always full, the DJ never had to motivate, because he just nailed it...I had non Latino friends and family getting down to music that they had never heard before. Saying that I was happy with my wedding DJ would be an understatement. Hugo was amazing. While I had a coordinator, Hugo played MC, introducing my bridal party and making announcements when appropriate. He also took care of my uplighting, which really dressed up the room. Hugo has been doing this for a long time, he's a professional. We met once to talk about what I wanted and then chatted on the phone leading up to the wedding to go over the timeline for the day. I'm so disappointed in my experience with Norcal DJ's, especially given the high ratings here on Yelp and the reputation of Norcal DJ's. I booked my daugther's quinceañera roughly a year in advance. Hugo and I communicated mostly by email (which is my preference so I appreciated that). As the date approached, I wasn't receiving any information from Hugo, nor was he responding to my email requests without multiple follow-up emails - or he would answer one question from a string of multiple questions. When the party arrived he was on-time and set up both the photobooth and projection screen. The snow machine we requested (it was a winter wonderland party) was loud and barely worked. It was supposed to have been used multiple times throughout the night and was only turned on once and was barely visible. Hugo credited me back the cost of that service after I requested. The photo booth service was supposed to come with a USB of all the photos as well as an online gallery. It has been a month and a half and I have yet to receive these nor have I received a response to my multiple email requests. Hugo is a nice guy and the music he played was good (though too loud), but I'd recommend going with someone else. read more

In a nutshell: Hugo is extremely talented and professional from A to Z! From competitive pricing to overall DJ skill and savvy, he hits all the marks and goes beyond. My wife and I have grown up to Hugo and his brother (Chuy) DJ'ing local parties and events, so to say they are a Bay Area institution is an under statement. We contracted Hugo and Norcal DJ's to perform at our wedding and without any complications they agreed. We spoke to Hugo early on in the process, and although there was about six months in between our wedding date and from when we first signed our contract, Hugo maintained constant communication. Throughout the process, Hugo kept us on track by being transparent with his timing and which allowed us to plan accordingly and perfect our playlist the way we wanted it. The multiple packages that Norcal DJ's offer are fantastic and suit any size wedding. We had roughly 230 guests and went with an up-light package and an extra hour of service. We could not be more pleased with the sound quality, lighting schemes, and mixing of our playlist. Seeing that it was a multi-cultural wedding, it was no easy task! Definitely check these guys out and I would hands down use them again for any future parties/events. read more

Hugo did our wedding that was 3 weeks ago and he was amazing !!! I am still getting calls saying that the music was fantastic. He played Greek music which was a must for my wedding and had the perfect amount of Greek and what is popular on the radio. DJ Hugo! Thank you sooo much for the fantastic job you did at my father's 70th birthday party!!!! It seriously was amazing - a few things that make a great party are the music and the food (see my YELP for BILLY BERKS in San Jose). People kept talking about how great the dancing/music was that night. DJ Hugo really knew how to work the crowd, he felt the audience and gave us everything we could have asked for in a DJ. I was very, very hesitant about hiring him. I found his YELP reviews as I was looking for another DJ and the comment that caught my eye was the one that said he would not have a party if DJ Hugo couldn't DJ. I thought "um, how lame", but I so see why they said that review!!! I think I would now do the same - for my next party, the only DJ I will ever hire would be this one. When my wife and I were planning our wedding, we ranked music as our # 1 priority. We needed a DJ that not only knew how to get a party started, but bring together two cultures, my Peruvian and my wife's Mexican family. My best friend and sister booked Hugo for my big 50th Bday which was 70's,80's and 90's themed. They found him on the internet. They said how easy it was to work with Hugo. I needed to contact him also to ask a few questions. He was extremely prompt, courteous and he was beyond accommodating. Our wedding was a success thanks to the great atmosphere Hugo's song selection created. He kept the party going and the guests dancing all night long.
