Max did an amazing job! I will not hesitate to recommend him to any of my friends and family for weddings or any event. If you do not want to stress about music and sound at your event or wedding, Max is the guy to hire. I felt comfortable with Max from the very beginning. From the very first meeting we instantly knew that our music and sound were going to be in good hands. He is very professional, a great communicator and really fun to speak to. He made sure we knew how he worked and what his style was from the very beginning. We had a second meeting where we went over the timeline of the wedding. He made suggestions and recommendations which we really appreciate because there are so many things that we didn't even think about. We entered all our songs (procession, recession, cocktail hour, introductions, first dance, cake cutting, general song requests, and do not play songs, etc.) through an online portal. At the event, he was on time and dressed for the occasion. He knew exactly what he needed to do without any help from us. Our officiant was mic'ed and ready to go and the background music was playing before I knew it. Our wedding started late due to some guests being late and we had to move around some things on the timeline but Max was able to make everything seamless without much direction from us. The music selection was exactly what we needed. He can feel the mood of the group and get people dancing. He made sure to get our song requests and our guests song requests in. Max. I hired this D.j. company for my wedding last friday night, as my parents has used this company prior for my sister's batmitzvah and he was absolutely amazing! However, the D.j. I worked with, Max, was less then a great D.j. He was absolutely awful! From the start of things he seemed like he was going to be a good d,j. and instantly clicked. This slowly changed when we were suppose to have a meeting to talk to him over the phone which he had cancelled last minute on. I made multiple attempts to contact him to do so, but kept canceling on me. I started to get nervous as this is flaky behavior for such a big event we were hosting! My mom had to contact him and set it straight. He then called, and we went over everything. I Felt at the time he understood, but when it came to the wedding, its obvious, he was not listening. He had broke his foot or ankle, and was very unprofessional, kept putting his foot up on the table where guests could see him, We could not hear the music that he was suppose to be playing during dinner time. He had cut our first dance short, even though we told him to play through as we had a choreographed dance, my mom had a dance that was a surprised choreographed he had cut short. My in-laws and most of our guests are israeli and was very important we did the traditional israeli dances. He had never asked us if we wanted to still or even do them as directed. He did not even do the ending song for the night that we wanted and told him to do. WE are high disappointed and would not dream of ever hiring him! I do not believe he is a good DJ and I Will never use him or his company again. I Will never suggest them to any friends or family. we were promised a refund that never happened. read more

First and foremost, love the Gatsby boys, especially Mixwell. He's incredibly professional and always on time and goes above and beyond to make sure my events are to perfection. I was referred to Max by another events company because of the style of music my event was looking for and I received exactly what I wanted. Mixwell/Max was great in following up with me weeks ahead of the event, and made sure to do a time line run through the day before our event. Thankfully we did that because we were able to work out a few timeline kinks that would have been disastrous if it weren't for his attention to detail! We loved DJ Max!! We hired Max for my son's Bar Mitzvah last month based on Yelp reviews and phone conversations, and he rocked the place and really connected with all of the kids. Picture all of the kids (and I mean all, even the non-dancers) on the floor for a line dance. This is no small feat considering my son is somewhat of a computer geek so he and most of his friends are usually the non-dancers. (disclaimer - this is my first yelp review so it might be long winded but Max truly deserved the great review) Here is what made the evening special: - Max setup a schedule for the what would happen at different times during the party with us and we were able to modify it online to our liking (for example ditching the candle lighting for a slide show). - The Bar Mitzvah boy (and parents) were able to pick 'must play' songs as well as 'do not play' songs/artists. This was really important to my son as Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift were not allowed at the party. - Max has a high tech system where kids could view/pick songs on an ipad and he would work them into the set. This got the attention of the more electronics-savvy kids and helped get the computer geeks interested in the music and dancing (and kept them closer to the dance floor). Max did a good job with the other kids suggesting similar songs to ones they requested that weren't on the 'do not play' list, so no one felt the absence of the songs/artists that my son did not want played. - Max met with us before the event at the venue and had great lighting suggestions to keep the kids on the dance floor (dark with lasers is good). Also, he met with my son to get a feel for how my son would react to different party ideas. For example, after the customary Jewish dances we quickly morphed into a conga line with my son happily leading it. - Max kept the evening on schedule and did a great job entertaining the kids with games while the grownups finished their meal. If there was a choice between 2 games he would ask my son for input to make sure it was a game that my son would enjoy. - Max is a younger guy who dressed sharp, had high energy, and connected well with the younger and older crowd. He was great at giving positive feedback to people who were getting into it, such as noticing and nodding at kids and grown ups who were singing along, etc., and this helped people feel comfortable and confident getting into the spirit of the party. - Max recommended that we only get 'glowing' giveaway items during the dancing and he was spot on - everyone loved them and it was a super big hit for the younger kids that came. He also made sure that he had enough so that there were constant giveaways. - The DJ really makes the difference. As the line dance kept rotating to the left, Max kept moving around to always be in front and lead everybody this really helped people feel confident dancing. In contrast, I was at another bar mitzvah with a different DJ who played the same line dance songs. The other DJ just stayed at the front and never moved so people could only see him when they were facing the front of the room. I think this is probably why everyone danced during these songs at my son's party, but few of the same kids danced to the same songs at the other party. - Also, as an aside, for anyone else planning this type of event, we had a photobooth that really helped entertain everyone throughout the evening and people took home memorable photostrips in lieu of party favors. It was a great evening and we will use Max for our future DJ needs. In fact, we have already contacted our synagogue to have DJ Max placed on the approved vendor list so that others can have an equally successful event. read more

He gave me advice about the timeline and gifts to keep the kids engaged. Max came with all of the DJ lights and uplights to place around the room, so the room looked alive! Max was the DJ for our son's bar mitzvah. He and his team did a great job keeping EVERYONE at the party entertained...kids and adults alike! Since my son is an avid sports fan, Max brought his sports crew with him and the kids had a dunk contest, home run derby and played dodgeball in the gym while the adults enjoyed cocktails. Everyone was happy! In addition, he brought TWO portable sound systems so they could play music for the adults during cocktails and the kids in the gym!! The evening was a success, thanks to Max! We hired DJ Max for my daughter' Bat Mitzvah last Saturday and three years ago for my oldest daughter. He did an amazing job at keeping the evening energized for 150 guests (100 kids and 50 adults). He coached us really well in advance to prepare for the party. Our guests said they were very impressed at how he could control such a large crowd of teenagers. He was able to strike the perfect balance between giving energy to the evening and letting the event run its own natural course when things were going well. The kids loved him. He was our wedding DJ and was amazing! Our venue had a preset list of approved DJs. When we told them who we had booked off the list they raved about him and were surprised we were able to even book him. We live out of town and were able to do a conference call prior to the wedding to get things sorted. A web document was also provided for editing our timeline and music preferences. On the day of everything was on point! All the correct music all the correct timing and all the correct names! When it came to dancing time it was perfect! All of my guests adored him. He even played "bouncer" for us when some odd requests came in making sure he had our approval - so appreciated! Long story short you will not go wrong with hiring him as your DJ. read more

I recently attended a wedding (See Jelena's Review) and my review is based on being a guest. As a guest, Max did a great job DJ'ing the wedding. I've been to several weddings where the DJ did not have a microphone or they had issues with the microphones and had horrible transitions between songs. He had all the equipment for this outdoor wedding and several microphones. He also has a pleasant MC voice similar to a professional announcers voice. I felt like he was more on top of the schedule for the wedding than the staff was. He kept the vibe going all night and even played some foreign music since majority of the guest were of a foreign nationality. I have actually already recommended him to a few of my friends who are planning their weddings. read more

We had a horrible experience with DJ Maxwell. First of all the communication before my daughters wedding was not good. She made phone appointments with him as she lived in Kauai and he stood her up and didn't honor the appointment and used the excuse he was too busy with a gig. After I spoke with him he then agreed and kept his next appointment. He would not do a site visit to see if uplighting the dance floor was necessary and we paid for that service. He is very cocky and hard to deal with. I was nervous from the start. He was supposed to play soft music during the meal and that was not done. He cut the bride and grooms first dance song short when he was told to play the entire song. The parents of the bride and groom had a special surprise dance with one song and then another dance with wedding party after and I cut the music just the way I wanted it and he stoped the music after first song and had a pause in the second song and he wasn't supposed to then he cut the second song short. He was not supposed to do any of that but play it the way I sent it to him. He was supposed to do traditional Israeli dancing songs and the chair dance and he didn't. He didn't communicate during the dancing and he didn't try to get things going on the dance floor. He didn't announce cake cutting or where the dessert table was. He broke his foot three days before and didn't mention it to us. He really came unable to perform and do his job! He sat during the wedding where guests could see him with his feet on top of the table. He was extremely unprofessional. His service was horrible and not worth the 2800 dollars we paid. He didn't play all the music that the bride and groom asked for and he didn't play the song they wanted for the last song. Maxwell's service was absolutely awful. I wouldn't recommend using him and we have used this company before and had a much better experience with another DJ. He should have communicated with us about his broken foot and gotten someone to help him as he couldn't really do his job on crutches. This was the only negative thing at our near perfect wedding and the DJ and music is a big part of a party. I think a refund is in order. Don't use Maxwell as you will be disappointed. read more

Max is the man!!! We found him through a referral and instantly hit it off when we met. He's really good with what he does, and he is professional, detail-oriented, and super easy to work with. He has every song on the planet on his playlist, even all the classical music pieces that we chose for the ceremony. Who shows up just as excited about the event after getting out from a near-death experience working in Las Vegas? Max did! Apparently he was hit by a drunk driver two weeks prior to our June 29th wedding. He reassured us everything will go as planned and even got us top-of-line speakers the last minute. The sound quality so beautiful and it filled up the whole space - we had our wedding at the Bently Reserve in San Francisco. The banking hall is over 8,000 square feet, with travertine-lined walls and marble floors. Max delivered exactly what he promised - arriving early the day of the wedding, made sure everything was set up correctly, did he sound checks carefully. Throughout the night, Max played great music we liked under the general music themes we provided him. He will give you helpful direction and suggestions if you are not sure what to play also. His years of experience makes his tips and knowledge very practical in terms of making sure the flow of the even makes sense logistically, and how to get people onto the dance floor, which was one of our main concerns. But when the party started, we were so surprised to see every one of our guests dancing and having a great time - there was a conga line on the dance floor at one point. Max will work with you to develop a timeline. He will let you know what to expect, and he has a great website where you can enter your song lists. He is also very helpful if you have special requests for time-edited versions of a particular song, or for putting a personalized medley together. He really gets your music preference and style because he listens and he picks up on your personalities from meeting with you. We consider Max a friend now after working with him. We respect him tremendously for his passion and dedication he puts toward his work, which is hard to find these days. read more

We hired Max for our wedding last Sunday and can not say enough positive things about him. We were looking for more of a club DJ, as music is very important to my husband and I. We put together a collection of songs and styles of music that we wanted at our wedding that were all part of the electronica genre, and even though this was not what Max normally plays, he completely delivered. Max was AMAZING!!! I just got married on August 1, 2015 and he was the highlight of my wedding! If you are like me, you are probably stressing trying to find a DJ, but you have no idea what you are looking for. You read all kinds of yelp reviews and you are unsure if the feedback is honest and true. LET ME TELL YOU..... This is honest and true.... PICK HIM!!! Some things that made him an amazing DJ for my wedding were: 1. There were people dancing ALL night, from 5pm - 1am (that's a long time to keep people interested and focused) 2. I had many different age groups (from teens to 90 year olds) and every single person loved the music that was being played. 3. My husband is mexican and I am white. I didn't know too many latin songs or music to recommend to Max and he reassured me that if anyone requests a song he can download it in minutes and he would play it- I LOVED THIS!! It saved me from feeling stressed that I wasn't/couldn't embrace my husbands culture as well. He really stepped up and played a mixture of music that was a perfect balance for both cultures. He also took all requests given by my husbands family and played them. It was perfect. 4. He continued to check in with my husband and I to see if we were okay, if we wanted to hear any special songs. He really made us feel like we were in control of our own music (even though he was!! And he didn't need any feedback from us because we were on the dance floor the entire night!!) 5. He is very quick with communication and responding back to emails. Me and my Wife recently booked Max for our wedding. He was amazing! After booking him, we had a meeting and fleshed out our details and expectations for the event, and he handled nearly everything else! He walked me through the different events that weddings usually have (I had no idea what events were usually included as I have not been to many weddings) and helped me build an itinerary for the event, along with suggestions for music for those different events (which turned out to be perfect). He also networked with our venue, gave us access to a really cool website where we could edit playlists of songs we wanted to play (or not to play) and include our event itinerary, and had on the day of the event appeared to have worked alongside with the venue with set up of his equipment (everything was set and ready to go, background music playing and all, when we arrived!) I would call my venue often to inform them of something in regards to set up for the DJ or questions about the itinerary we sent to the venue and DJ, and the person speaking would always respond with something along the lines of "Yeah! No problem its already been taken care of. Your DJ called and let us know you needed it." As for the event, he was awesome. He was a great master of ceremonies (Very professional and fun) and kept the event running on time. He never missed a beat in regards to announcing events at the correct time and exactly the way I had asked. As for the music, all I had to do was tell him the genres of music I wanted and update my "online playlist" he gave me access to after booking him, and he took care of the rest. All the music was great, and exactly what I asked for. A few times, he even jumped out from behind his table and led the people on the dance floor in dances and really kept everyone dancing and having a good time. He was very flexible, accommodating and professional, was a huge help in the planning and set up of the wedding, and executed the event perfectly. Great DJ--unconditionally recommended! The DJ for my wife's 50th birthday party cancelled and Max stepped in at short notice. He was great!
