Small kitchen and dining area (approx. 207 sq.ft. all together) remodel = 6 month, 8 day In May I had water damage in my kitchen. NorCAL's owner, Owner F recommended that I replace the entire houses flooring. I said no and am happy I did. Dealing with owner M and owner F was frustrating which is strange because they had great reviews. Turns out those reviews are from the previous owner. That should not be allowed. I felt as if I had to manage my own project. Anytime I would ask about when something would get started or completed, I was met with "its day by day, I can't tell you any of that, this is just how it goes". Or I would get no text back at all. Their communication and planning are weak. First I signed the contract and fully designed everything myself. I sent item numbers and where to get the products. I only asked if we were on budget. Everything was torn out by a different company in June. NorCal did not start the rebuild for a long time. The house just sat there. I moved out mid May. NorCal's Owner M said that it would be done October 3. In the beginning of NorCal starting, there were 11 no show days where I was told workers would be coming. I felt like the project was going nowhere and when I asked what was going on I received excuses. They had literally missed more work days than they had come to. To make things worse, I noticed a rodent issue due to the demo it allowed critters in (this was not their fault) I paid a good amount of money to seal up my house and make sure the mouse situation was resolved. I also asked owner F to make sure that while they worked, that no one gave rodents the opportunity to get back in. Due to mismeasurement Owner F told me that we would have to replace and downsize my door that goes from my kitchen to my garage and that I would need to pay out of pocket, not my insurance. This was not part of the plan. After some research I realized that making the door 2 inches smaller would have been in violation of CA code. A NorCal employee came to do the door and left the job with the door completely off the hinges. I went to my home to find this and I had to use trash bags and duct tape to seal it off myself. After the no shows, poor communication, mismeasurement, adding the door, very little work getting done after 4 months and leaving the door open, I wanted out of my contract. I made my first complaint to Owner F . He told me it is their legal right to "show up once every 90 days" to avoid contract abandonment. I felt as if I was being held hostage. Watch out for the contract with no start or end date. It ONLY protects them. NOT YOU. Lesson learned, but also unprofessional of him. This kind of behavior doesn't inspire trust. Owner F seems to have a way of speaking to people as if he is in a place of power and he REALLY enjoys it. If you have a complaint, too bad....and let me tell you what part of the contract says we have you by the balls...... is the overall vibe. Work started, then came to a standstill: Owner M explicitly told me that no work could go further until the countertops were in and another company was in charge of that, so we were waiting on them. Shortly after, I started getting emails from Lowes about paying the remaining amount for the countertops. I called the company that was to cut and install. Turns out the countertops were not paid for and materials were never even sent from Lowes to the folks who cut and install them as Owner M stated. The countertop company said that all of her emails and calls to NorCal went unanswered. Owner M said that Lowes told him that they would send the materials and get them installed, then he would pay after. The countertop company told me that Lowes would never do that. I had been asking for a door knob for weeks to go out and do laundry. I was met with no response. Every time they did something, it was half way done, then it just sat unfinished for days. This set back the completion date for my home getting done and was totally avoidable. My Significant other finally decided that he needed to get involved after hearing a very rude conversation on speaker with Owner F and knowing that owner M was giving me the run around with the countertops and door knob. He went to their shop and had a chat with owner M. Owner F was not there. My S.O. said it was all excuses and getting ridiculous, if they couldn't do the job then they should have let me find someone else who could. After he left their shop, I received a text from owner F stating that if my S.O. ever comes to their shop or speaks to any of their employees, he will get a restraining order. This was the last straw for me. Owner F 's response was an overreaction intended to intimidate us rather than take any responsibility for their poor service and lack of communication. There were more issues but I think you get the point. Construction is stressful no matter what but this was so much worse than I had imagined. Be sure to look at your contract. read more

I'm not one to leave reviews, especially bad ones. Ever since the new owners recently took over, the service is pathetic and they serve a large side of attitude with every phone call. They provided subpar work and then failed to cover their mistake. Use caution when dealing with these people. Fortunately, we did not have to pay for their "service" as this was an insurance claim. This company was hired by my insurance company to perform demolition of kitchen cabinets, drywall and approx. 900 sq ft of hardwood flooring and mold medication after we had a water leak. They where instructed by the insurance company to keep a sample of the hardwood flooring and the cabinet fronts which they failed to do. they sent their crew two hours away from Redding to our house to perform the work in a van full of tools expecting them to hall the demo materials too the dump in said van. I offered to let them use my dump trailer, when it came time to make the dump run I asked the foreman how I would get reimbursed for the cost of the disposal fee and he told me to give him the receipt and the company would pay me back but when it came time to get reimbursed I was told by one of the owners that I would need to get the money from my insurance. I replied to him that I was told that they would be paying me back, after some "discussion" the owner agreed to pay me back for the cost of the demo disposal. When I was reviewing the final bill that NorCal submitted to my insurance company I noticed that they charged my insurance for a dump trailer rental fee when it was my dump trailer that was used for both the demo runs and the only thing that NorCal paid was the actual disposal fee at the dump. I did not charge them a rental fee for the dump trailer or the use of my truck since their van could not pull my dump trailer. I did not charge them for the fuel that was used in my truck and I did not charge them for my time since I was the one who make both the demo runs to the dump. After the demo work was completed one of the owners contacted me and asked me to sign off on the final walk through so they could get paid by my insurance. I told the owner that I was not going to sign the paperwork since the final walk through for the completed work had not been conducted, the owner that I was talking to immediately threatened me with putting a lean on my house if I did not sign the paperwork. I still refused to sign it until a walk through was conducted, it took the owner two weeks to come up to my house to complete the walk through. While we where doing the walk through the owner told me that if they could not make a 60% profit on the reconstruction of my house they where not interested in doing the work so I asked him if he was saying that they wanted 60% of what ever amount my insurance company agreed to pay to go into their pocket and he said yes that was correct. While the owner and I where doing the walk through he asked me if I had saved any of the kitchen cabinet fronts (doors etc) to which I replied "why would I do that, that is your job not mine" and that I assumed that his crew saved some of them when they did the demo work in the kitchen and took everything out to my dump trailer. He said ok and that he would "figure something out". After talking to my insurance company I found out that NorCal was supposed to keep all the lower cabinet fronts and all the upper cabinets incase any of it could be reused along with a sample of the hardwood flooring which of course they did not do. All of these items went into the dump trailer and where disposed of at the dump. NorCal submitted an estimate of $31,000ish to construct and install full upper and lower kitchen cabinets as well as approx. 900 square feet of hardwood flooring, after I decided to use different companies for this work I have not been able to find anyone that could do the work this cheap so i have to wonder what corners they were going to cut to get my house put back together and still be able to put 60% of the money into their pocket. Edit: I did not include this in the orginal review since I did not have proof at that time but now I do. The last check that was issued to NorCal from my insurance company was a two party check (I and they where supposed to sign the check) and the check got cashed without me having signed it. I have since got a copy of the cancelled check and there is a signature on the back of the check that is supposed to be mine but as I said I never signed the check so someone at NorCal forged my signature. read more

Kyle at NorCal Construction is so was to work with, His team lead by Taylor White is so professional and hard working, They moved out everything and ripped out the extremely water soaked carpet on the first day. The second day was even more intense as they ripped out all the water soaked sub flooring cut out the water damaged sheetrock. I went to check to see that they locked up at 6:00 pm and found they still working hard to get everything set to dry out for a few days. I can not praise them enough for there work. Kyle was incredible!! There was water damage and mold in my kitchen that also impacted the hard wood floors in my house. He worked with the insurance adjuster every step of the way and worked on my behalf to make sure everything was covered. He helped me get everything restored to how is was or even better than before. He even helped me pick what tile would work well with my existing countertops. He worked with various contractors to make sure the process was smooth. Kyle was timely and professional with communication and updated me consistently on the process so that I could confident with what was getting done.
