Came Sunday at 9:30, already a quarter full. I had har- gow, chicken feet, trip, lotus leaf sticky rice (lo mai gai). The chicken feet were perfect and the har-gow full and plumb with shrimp. I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. Plus, they were the "normal" palm size tart...not those mini ones, that many places switched to, to save money. Honestly, these were the best I have had anywhere! As I was leaving at 10:45, the place was buzzing and almost full. They were also bringing out many more items, such as stuffed bell pepper (with shrimp) and stuffed egg plant (with pork). They also had special carts that would make stir fry noodles or steamed vegy at your table. Makes it feel like Hong Kong, which was the last place I saw these, in the early '90s.

The service is quite speedy, so no more waiting for table water as the staff zip from one booth to the next. On busy nights waiting for a table can be the pits because it gets heaps of customers who are coming from Darling Harbour. For bigger groups, it's recommended you book out private rooms in advance. If you do get one, you'll get a feel for an authentic Japanese dinner, with a low table and floor cushions to kneel on. The menu is quite extensive and offers a wide range of Chinese and Hong Kong food. We ordered a salt and pepper squid with rice ($10.80) and a Fukien fried rice ($14.80). A very positive aspect of the restaurant and perhaps a declining feature if Asian eateries is that free soup is provided. Even better was the fact that the soup was quite flavoursome, as opposed to some of the more bland servings from other restaurants. Our food took about 15 to 20 minutes to arrive, which was great given that the place was by now pretty packed. The Fukien fried rice looked home cooked in regards to the way that the meat and vegetables were cut. Flavour wise it was good but not the best that I have had. Serving was generous and in line with how most Fukien fried rice is served. The salt and pepper squid with rice was also generous in serving and we'll priced for $10.80. It was refreshing to get some really hot chopped chili as well. Interestingly the dish came with fresh vegetables at the bottom of the squid but it's good that it did given that deep fried squid isn't exactly the healthiest thing around! Taste wise this dish was great. The service was prompt and acceptable especially for an Asian restaurant. Overall the restaurant is well presented and serves good food for a decent price (drinks were around $4). The downside is that it's not the most family friendly joint in terms of design and it can be quite difficult to get a table during peak dinner times. Minimum EFTPOS is $30.
