chicken laksa
Andrew C.

There's something about the laksa and the chicken curry that sets this place apart from other popular Malaysian places in the Sydney area. It's not overly creamy, the chicken is very tender and bursting with flavor. How good is this place? So good that I went twice in 4 days. How affordable is this place? Pretty darn affordable at ~10 a dish, depending on what you get. This place is extremely affordable and gets through the long lines quickly. The only downside is they close "early", but who can blame them being in the CBD. I was also able to try the curry beef, but the tenderness of the chicken pushes me towards getting chicken next time!

The Legendary Chicken laksa

This is my favorite place in Australia. Having grown up in Sydney, I've always been around Malaysian cuisine and enjoyed Laksa from this place. When I moved to the US I failed to find anything close to the flavors in Australia. I brought my wife here about 5 years ago. She instantly fell in love. She would literally find reasons to come to Sydney, just to have a bowl of chicken laksa here. 3 years ago when my teenager joined us for the trip, the pair went to get laksa from here twice in one day!!!

Highly recommend The first time I tried laksa was here - wow I loved it (so did the hubs). I walked in and I saw everyone eating from these bowls of delicious looking soup. I had no idea what it was but I guessed at laksa - CHA CHING so delicious. I got the veggie laksa and wanted to dive in my bowl and never leave. I went on a laksa spree after this but this is easily the best I've had. Do yourself a favor and get the laksa. Four stars and not five because my husband ordered the mie goreng and it really wasn't good. If I'm ever back in Sydney, this will be my first stop

Chicken laksa no skin extra tofu
Nancie M.

Came here based on other yelp reviews and ordered the chicken laksa no skin extra tofu. I was surprised there were no veggies included at all. I have ordered laksa at several locations thru out Sydney and was disappointed for he price just an average laksa at a more expensive price. Very loud and seat yourself seating just so so.

This place is a gem in Sydney for people that love asian food. This place was packed full of people even in the middle of the afternoon. I ordered the chicken and shrimp laksa and it tasted so good. The dish looks spicy, but really just has lots of flavor. The shrimps were normal size and the chicken was not dry at all. My friend who grew up in Singapore said this food tasted very authentic and reminded him of cooking from his childhood.

Don't believe the hype! In the last 10 years since I left Australia - Laksa has become a crowning glory, so it is with sad news that I only give this laksa a 2/5 I've eaten here a few times - hoping each time that it would change my mind, but it hasn't. I'd have thought the broth would have richer spice notes and something more comforting about it, but it lacked depth and character. I wish I didn't feel this way - as it appears to have a multitude of fans. Does anyone know where the tiny little Laksa shop went from tank stream lane????

Decent pricing.

As far as Laksa goes, it will not disappoint. There are many ways to prepare this dish, and this one is decent. For the price, it's a good bet for a very filling meal. You get the sense that the whole crew are like family and that's important when running a kitchen serving up Asian dishes. That kind of positivity can influence the taste of the food that's sent out. Pop in, pay in cash, enjoy a recent Asian meal, pop out.

This is the closest candle Sydney holds to Singapore's hawker centres. Granted it's just one shop, not 100. And it's inside, not out. And it's only pushing 30 degrees, not 45. But from the moment you're hustled inside, you'll experience a mini Maxwell Centre, from the close proximity you are to your neighbours to the cheap plastic seating to the lack of concern for either of the aforementioned because of the incredible chicken rice and laksa you can't seem to shove in your face as quickly as your tastebuds demand it. It's cheap, fast, hot, and delicious, so join the queue. And don't scoff when they offer you a bib - take it with humble gratitude. Or be prepared to be envious of the Americans with the Tide stick.

Chicken and small prawn laksa

For one of my first meals in Sydney, I found this place when the weather started to act very funny: overcast skies, the winds were a little stronger, the temperature dropping, and small falling raindrops. I was getting hungry and I found this place. I got the laksa curry noodles with chicken and small prawns and it was one of the most wonderful noodle soups I had, especially during a rainy day. The chicken was so tender. The prawns were definitely small but fairly sizable for a small mouth and the portions were generous, and they actually tasted like good prawns. The flavour of the noodle soup was just right. It was not spicy but it had a great mild flavour due to the creamy coconut milk mixed with the laksa. Service was fairly fast, since the afternoon was a slow day. The location is very good, it's not too far from Circular Quay. Expect to pay a little more than $15 for a good sized noodle soup and a drink. Don't expect any sophistication at this place, it has a very simple set up as if you are walking into a nice hawker centre. Overall, I thought I had some of the best laksa noodles so far at one of the best locations in Sydney. It's definitely a good option if you are looking for a dish under $15.

Tofu laksa, extra tofu

Are you looking for the best laksa in Sydney? It's here, tucked into an indiscreet restaurant between Mr. Bees and Frankie's. With lines out the door most days (even in summer), people are speaking with their feet and coming here for delicious laksa and Malaysian Chinese dishes. The restaurant is cash only, so make sure you come prepared. The laksa here is great for a few reasons--first, it is a huge serving size, and I almost always have enough for two meals. Second, the laksa itself is full of flavor--not too milky, not too oily, just the right combination. I love the tofu here more than any other restaurant I've been to, and friends who swear up and down that they hate tofu find themselves changing their tune after a few bites of the laksa! Prices are super reasonable (right around $10 for a hefty serve). If you're coming at lunch, make sure you have the time to wait, grab yourself a bib and get ready for the best laksa.

King prawn and chicken laksa

Had heard this place was the best laksa in Sydney so was eager to try. It's a order and pick up style restaurant. I ordered the king prawn and chicken laksa. It was $14 aud and cash only. It was ready super quick! The broth was rich and delicious. The coconut milk curry base was a little spicy. As it was chilly that day, the laksa was perfect. There were lots of shrimp and some chicken. The portion is pretty big and filling. A perfect dinner on a cool fall day in Sydney.

The weekday lunch crowd.
Blessie W.

You can't ever go wrong with a hole in the wall frequented by city folk, no? The crowds were plentiful here during the weekday lunch hour, but it wasn't too hard to find a seat. The service wasn't the friendliest, but it was efficient. Heck, I got my order in an impressive 5 MINUTES, not compromising quality. So flavorful. Oh, yum. Options are great with different laksa flavors (& vegetarian options too!) and Chinese takeaway. An unexpected but nice find in the heart of the city!

Everyone says this is the best laksa in sydney. It may very well be, but compared to laksa i've had in singapore and Malaysia, it still is quite a bit away in taste. However, i was more impressed with the hae mee. These noodles were closer in taste to the authentic version than the laksa was. 4.5 stars for the hae mee and 3.5 stars for the laksa. Make sure to order the chicken with skin for the laksa. This is the juicier and more flavorful dark meat. The chicken without skin is the drier white meat.

Had great assam laksa there, almost like in Penang. They only have assam laksa on Fridays but oh, so worth the visit!

I had never tried Laksa before going here. I loved it! The Laksa with chicken was fantastic! Go early because the line gets really long!
