A friend of mine highly recommended The Noodle Box when she visited Victoria a few years back so I put it on my list of restaurants to visit during my stay. The location was different than what she described so maybe the quality of food depends on location? Or perhaps the quality has deteriorated over the years? I love black bean dishes and I love chicken wings so I ordered the Black Bean Noodles with Beef and the Thai Fried Chicken Wings. Both were a major disappointment. The noodles alone were nice and chewy but the sauce was salty (which is a common problem with black bean dishes not done right) and the flavor was weird (I want to say very gingery though I didn't read ginger listed in the description of the dish). The chicken wings were sweet and slightly spicy on the outside but the flavor did not carry into the meat which was stringy and tasteless. I'm not a terribly picky person and I don't like to waste food but after a few bites, finishing the dishes held no appeal. A good thing I got it to go because I would have felt embarrassed throwing all that food out in the restaurant. The restaurant was busy and considering the food I didn't enjoy, I'm surprised that it's so popular. The service was OKAY. The person who took our order did it quickly enough but we waited about 15 minutes for our food. We spent that 15 minutes watching the kitchen staff futz around the woks. Should have known there that the food would not be good. Usually when I see the cooks in the kitchen preparing food, I begin to feel excited, anticipating yumminess but this was not the case at The Noodle Box. Obviously, I won't be going back. I'm not at all curious to see if there other dishes are any better. Victoria has many other great places to eat. For noodles, try I Kyu Noodles on Fisgard. And right next door is Wah Lai Yuen for delicious Crispy BBQ Pork. read more

I always try Yelp when I visit new places but this is the first time I'm disappointed. The amount of food served was way too much and the quality was way too little. The extra $5 for prawn to add in pad Thai is not worth it. The smallest shrimp and should not be called prawn at all. The coconut shrimp is the taste of the frozen one you buy in the grocery store frozen section . Not even pass the quality of Costco frozen coconut shrimp. The soup is tasteless.... read more

Well, that was a disappointment. Pleasant service at the window, but mediocre food. The spring roll, for $5, was of only moderate size, filled mostly with noodles. The butter chicken serving was almost entirely sauce, heavy on the ginger. And the Singapore coconut curry didn't have much sauce at all, no evidence of coconut creamy texture, and for mild/medium, was on the edge of too spicy. I asked for extra vegetables, and I think I got extra scallions. It did have more chicken than the butter chicken entree, but I doubt it was more than 2 ounces. So for $40 Canadian, have had much better. Won't be back... read more

This is my first time eating at Noodle Box. I ordered the 'Crispy Shanghai Chicken Box' (around $13 to $15) with a spicy level of 'Medium/Hot' (there are 5 levels of spiciness, and I chose the the 3rd level of spiciness). The flavours were alright and could be mixed a bit better, and the meal was spicier than expected. I am glad I did not ask for a spicier meal because I could tell after eating the 'Medium/Hot' that anything above would be inedible. Their staff will not tell you how spicy the food is, or give you any warning about the spiciness of the dish. From experience I know that the spiciest dish at a different restaurant would not be as spicy as Noodle Box, for example I have tried the spiciest dish at La Taquisa on 1017 Blanshard (Victoria, BC) and their spiciest dish is as spicy at Noodle Box's 'Medium/Hot'. Or for instance McDonald's recent spiciest burger called the 'Ghost Pepper McChicken' burger which I have tried is not as spicy as Noodle Box's 'Medium/Hot'. The Crispy Shanghai Chicken Box came with a very generous amount of bean sprouts/roots that could probably compete in height with Mount Douglas. The amount of chicken is very small, about 3 pieces of chicken balls each the size of a $1 Canadian coin. I could clearly taste the ginger, cabbage, peppers, and cashews and those were fine and added a nice touch to the meal. Take notice that the meal is called 'Crispy Shanghai Chicken Box' and the only things in the meal that were crispy are the cabbage, the bean sprouts, and the carrots. The chicken is soft, tasty, and not crispy. The chicken tasted like those sweet chili chicken balls you would find at a Chinese Buffet, or a Chinese restaurant. Although the Crispy Shanghai Chicken Box was O.K., you can get a better meal at a Chinese All You Can Eat Buffet for the same price, and load up on chicken or other variety of foods at the Chinese Buffet instead. read more

Really good food, fresh and friendly. The drinks were a little week, but wonderfully flavorful. Portions are not huge, but well worth the cost. The owner is personally involved, usually helping to wait on tables, and taking the time to really connect to customers. I heartily recommend a visit to any Thai food fan! read more

The Noodle Box was recommended to us by one of the clerks at thehotel we were staying at in Victoria. He warned us about the different levels of spiciness in the establishment. It was a relatively small menu with foods like teriyaki, rice, and various noodles. I noted that there were 8 levels of spiciness and ordered the Malaysian Rice mild (the lowest level of spiciness available). My wife orderedr Spicy Peanut Noodle at a spice level of 3. When the food came out the servings were huge. The presentation was lovely and for $12 the value looked pretty good. At a few bites and it tasted quite nice. And then ate more...and then a little more...and then a little more....and then I felt like my mouth was on fire. I rested and took a bite, then had to stop, then rested, then had to stop, then just had to stop. By that time I had only eaten about a third of the rice and just had to call it quits. I felt like if I ate any more I would give myself an upset stomach. Don't get me wrong, the food was really tasty but for the lowest level of spice it was quite spicy. I had to call it quits and wasted a lot of it, which was rather disappointing. On the other hand, my wife really enjoyed her noodles and ate most of it. When we walked into The Noodle Box we had no idea that we were in for an incredible dining experience. We were 2 hours away from heading back to Seattle on the Clipper and needed to grab some lunch. Our five year old daughter isn't a picky eater, but she is particular. We were sure that the gyoza would suit her. She quickly downed those and dug into her mom's spicy peanut sauced noodles. I ordered a medium heat red curry and the staff member queried me to ensure I wasn't getting into something too spicy. The dish ended up providing a good amount of heat and lots of flavour. The portions are substantial, so we had the leftovers packed up. The service was great- staff members were friendly, helpful, and efficient. And as busy as the restaurant was, the place was very clean. If this place was in Seattle, I'd be a regular. Can't wait for our next visit to Victoria. read more

I traveled to Victoria several times and the Noodlebox is always a "must stop" for me. The portions are big, the flavor of the food is amazing and the customer services is good. If you get to go to Victoria, make sure to stop here and get some Asian Fusion food. If you are a spicy food lover this is also the place for you. read more

We were misled by the reviews. My wife and I ordered three separate dishes plus Gyoza from the Noodle Box and had them delivered to our room at the Marriott across the street. We ordered prawns in two of our dishes and received a few tiny shrimp in each order not Prawns. One of our orders tasted like they threw in a half jar of peanut butter. Everything was too salty and overall we are extremely dissatisfied with the three dishes plus the Gyoza was worse than I could get frozen at my local Safeway. Unfortunately we will not be eating there again at our next visit to Victoria. read more

If you're a celiac disease sufferer EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK. My spouse has celiac disease and we ordered specifically gluten free and I even made my order gluten free just to better the odds of them not effing it up but they did. She is now writhing in pain and will probably have to call in sick tomorrow. We've eaten there before with no problem but the quality has gone wAy down and the staff are uninformed about food allergies. The uptown location is just horrible so that's the end of noodlebox for us which is a true shame. read more

ordered take out spicy peanut with chicken and teriyaki with chicken I found a giant piece of broccoli ends in my food (teriyaki) yes its eatable but not very appealing in my dish. when I came in you could smell burning food from the wok and wasn't very appealing towards my appetite. instantly I saw tons of smoke from the wok while the cook was plating. again not very appealing. overall taste was average. 3/5 rating for lack of experience and or training of the cooks and prep cooks. read more

They are not kidding around with the heat here. My "medium" spicy dish was super hot! There is a sign to warn you, take note! Otherwise, the food was alright, music was too loud, counter servers were indifferent. Most dishes are $13 on average - for that price, I'd rather go to Brown's across the street, where the service is always excellent and given at your table. read more

We have gone to The Noodle Box in Vancouver for a few years and have always had a great meal and efficient service. The food was good at this location, but the lady at the cash register last evening left a bit to be desired. She argued with us in respect of our order. Oh well, we'll keep going back, but we were sorry to have had this experience when the Vancouver one has been so great. read more

The food was great and came in a much larger portion than I expected. It actually lasted me for two meals so I can say that its worth the $10 or so that you'll pay for a bowl. My goodness. As a vegetarian from the real-life farmville here in Yakima, WA, I am panting for some real-life, not once-was-alive, vegan food. Some friends and I, after running the half-marathon in Victoria, wandered into The Noodle Box looking for a substantial meal that would replenish our carb reserves. We got it. The servings are huge - more than enough to feed two very hungry people - and the flavors were complex and hearty. I ordered the Singapore Cashew Curry with smoked tofu. I don't even like tofu (so why did I order it, you ask? I'm stumped.), but this tofu was amazing, and not the slightest bit squishy. The lady taking my order was able to tell me exactly what was veggie/vegan and what was not, which I greatly appreciate, since here in Farmville many think that eating vegetarian means you eat animals that only ate vegetables when they were alive. But anyway - The Noodle Box did me right. Vegetables were sauteed to just-crispness, the broth was spicy, smooth and flavorful, and the cashews seemed to be lightly roasted. Delightful. And filling. this was my first time coming to a noodlebox establishment and I have to say I was pretty impressed. not that i have a vast knowledge or really knowledge at all on Asian cuisine. the service was a little slow- the lady who was taking our order was very nice and personable, but she was looking behind me which was a little uncomfortable. the wait was around 10-15 minutes for our food and it was mildly busy. but they do cook you fresh food and that is worth waiting for sure. food is favourable and the portions are large. would recommend sharing if you don't have a big appetite like me. overall a good experience at noodlebox! read more

I went to the Uptown Noodle Box a few weeks ago and ordered a gluten free Spicy Peanut box to go. When I started to eat it, I saw that there were 3-4 thick round wheat noodles contaminating the box, the kind you find in the teriyaki box. I wasn't able to go back to complain as I was already on route up island. What a disappointment. I frequent Noodle box in kits and downtown vancouver and never have this problem. I love the noodle box... my favourite is the spicy peanut. The atmosphere is nice and the employees are always friendly. I do find that it is slightly expensive, but I am still always satisfied with my order. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait, but that's only because they are busy.
