We visited Nonno Carlo tonight (4/24) with a group of six, and WOW - what an absolute gem! Every single thing we ordered was incredible. The two wood-fired pizzas were perfection - crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. We also shared the meatball hoagie, meatballs with ricotta, antipasto salad, caprese salad, cucumber-tomato salad, Italian chicken salad sandwich, and the Italiano... and then there was the porchetta sandwich - hands down my new favorite sandwich in the universe. I'm still thinking about it. As if that wasn't enough, we finished with imported gelato (strawberry and caramel), and it was the perfect sweet ending. Beyond the amazing food, the two young ladies working the front were so kind, welcoming, and helpful - it really made the whole experience even better. Nonno Carlo (Italian restaurant, Morgantown, WV), March, 2026. A small group of us shared take-out from this deli while visiting an in-patient relative at the WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital. The group was mostly Italian-Americans, and Italian food is their "go-to" comfort food, especially during such a stressful period. Nonno Carlo, while a bit on the pricey side, did not disappoint with its high quality, abundant, and authentic Italian food. We also appreciated that its location was only about a 5-minute drive from the hospital. Food. (4.5/5). We ordered and shared: (1) The Ellis Island ($15.25), which is described by the restaurant as an Italian American classic sub that is a "sandwich so big you got to take a boat to get there!)" It features herbed aioli, provolone cheese, hot ham, pepperoni, vinegar peppers and onions, lettuce, tomato, and balsamic, piled high on a Mancini's hoagie roll. It was served with potato chips. (2) an Italiano sub ($15.50), which features mortadella, salami, soppressata, capocollo, provolone, and Calabrian pepper spread, served on focaccia. (3) an appetizer, Meatballs and Ricotta ($8.95). This was a favorite, with three DeMedici meatballs served over house-made ricotta. It was served with homemade bread, which was perfect for dipping. (4) Caprese Salad ($3) -- cherry tomatoes, house-made mozzarella, and basil, finished with extra virgin olive oil, salt and pepper. (5) Cucumber-Tomato Salad ($2), with sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, red onions, and basil, finished with extra virgin olive oil and vinegar. (6) Dessert: 2 for $7 cannoli. (You could also order a single cannoli for $4). My rating is 4-stars rather than 5-stars for two small reasons -- (1) the subs were somewhat soggy by the time they reached us, from the vinegar/spreads on them, and (2) both salads were sour given the ratio of vinegar to olive oil in the dressings. I can't speak to ambiance or service, as this was take-out and someone else picked it up. I would eat in or order from here again. read more

I'm not quite sure where to start, the service from the staff is top notch. You are acknowledged the moment you walk through the door and staff are attentive throughout your interactions with them. First time in your store today. Impressive menu! Wonderful decor and atmosphere. Staff were so friendly and helpful. One criticism, your pizza oven is not hot enough. First, the wood I saw was all soft woods. Soft oak and soft wild cherry. You must use hard wood. Hard maple, oak, ash or birch. Apple and cherry fruit trees. Hardwood will bring the temperature up to 900 degrees and pizzas will be perfect in under 3 minutes. The Sauce, cheese and dough all wonderful just a little under cooked. Sausage and peppers sandwich wad pretty good. Love the I Gonzaga candy took me back to childhood. My dad always had a box for me!! Can't wait to pick up the Mancini's bread! Hands down the best sandwich spot in Morgantown. Always my go to for a quick lunch or dinner. The sandwiches are filling, with fresh and flavorful combos of ingredients. Tried this place for first time. Mostly reviewing the pastrami sandwich. It's okay, not amazing. Average quality pastrami. Focaccia for bread choice also takes away from it if you're a rye fan. Overall they have a lot of decent looking sandwiches on menu. I would go back to try something different. read more

The deli/store is ok and the atmosphere is fine. Counter service is friendly. The meatball sandwich is recommended as their best. It was underwhelming. While the meatballs and sauce were good, the bread was generic and there was very little provolone. I asked for a little Parmesan to put on top. I needed to find some dinner and take back To my motel room. So I decided to chaccount Nonna Carlo at the suncrest shopping center. I actually have eaten here before but it was another to go order about six months ago with my daughter in law. This trip i'm solo! Talk to the cashier about good healthy choices, also telling her what I liked. She made the suggestion of trying their meatball appetizer which in addition to Meatballs includes sauce and housemade fresh ricotta cheese. I told her that sounded delicious just my hair describing the dish and was willing to try it. I also chose their caprese salad as a side which included their homemade house mozzarella I took my purchases back to the hotel room where I enjoyed them in a nice quiet environment after a long day at the hospital and testing. I have to admit the food was absolutely delicious and I definitely get it again. I'm highly recommending this place for anybody in the area. My wife and I shared a meatball sandwich and the porchetta sandwich. Both were fresh and super flavorful. The meatballs were massive and deliciously seasoned and the bread was fresh and soft. After attending an event that was catered by Nonno Carlo, I had to try their restaurant. While the interior is underwhelming the food was amazing. We both had salads that were fresh and very flavorful. We also shared an order of meatballs. While not the best meatballs I have had, they were very good. The ricotta and sauce were delicious. I came to Morgantown on business and stayed at a hotel near the restaurant. For dinner one night I ordered carryout to cover me for that evening and the next: Caprese salad, Italiano sandwich, and a large Fungi neopolitan pizza. Since I come from Chicago and travel quite a bit, I am comparing Nonno Carlo to a spectrum of places I have frequented, not just joints local to the area. Frankly, I can make a better caprese salad at home. This one appeared to be made of some fine shreds of not-so-fresh basil (so thin they looked like grass picked from the yard), cubes of BelGioioso mozzarella, and a sprinkle of balsamic vinegar. The sandwich, however, was pretty tasty albeit expensive. And the pizza had a decent neopolitan crust but way too much cheese, too little sauce and tiny cubes of portabella mushroom. It came across as stingy and cheap. Overall the ingredients had the quality of things you can readily get from Costco. And with the exception of the pizza crust nothing was that unique or special. Even the dining room, which I only saw while waiting at the counter, had the ambiance of a shopping mall food court. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, prices high for the quality of the food, and portions definitely not generous. read more

I ordered for carry out and didn't call ahead but service was still very fast and accurate Friendly staff and the place has a nice feel to it. I asked for a couple recommendations and ordered the Hot Salami pizza, the Italiano sandwich with an Antipasto salad. Ordered Bianca pizza and meatball appetizer after a very long shift. Pizza arrived with the bottom completely burnt. I mean it was black and tasted terrible. Let's start by saying that the first time (roughly one month ago) I received this order, it was satisfactory. The sandwich was actually beyond that! The pork belly was as advertised and killer. Today, however, my $40 order was lacking to say the least... The sandwich has bacon, not porchetta. Totally different curing process (think a contrast like dried mangos vs fruit by the foot. Both are fruit based, but not the same in texture). If you advertise it, have it. If you don't, WHICH IS 100% understandable, JUST SAY SO!! A $14+ glorified BLT is not what I had the first time I ordered it. The chips were just laughable. It's just hitting a potato on a mandolin then into the fry. Not a hard process. Also, a super cheap veg. Just screams lazy. I'll order again bc the first time it was legit dope. Really really good. When that happens, I'll review/delete this if it merits. I had Nonno Carlo delivered through Grubhub and the margarita pizza was amazing. It's crust was Neapolitan style. It had the taste and perfect texture that all good Neapolitan crusts have. The salty cheese went well with the tangy sauce and the doughy crust. I am happy to pay $12.50 for a well done, artisan pizza in Morgantown. I also really enjoyed the caprese salad. The nice cherry tomatoes and mozzarella cheese were dressed really well. I do not give Nonno Carlo 5 stars because of the single meatball that I ordered. The meatball was way too salty. We ordered the Soppressata and Porchetta sandwiches with chips and cucumber salad. The soppressata was loaded with meat and cheese and herbs and the homemade focaccia bread was delicious. Cucumber salad and homemade chips were amazing. I've never had a better potato chip. The Porchetta was just OK (I'm pretty sure it was a pancetta, not Porchetta, sandwhich). Sad to report this $38 lunch for two was a total disappointment. We had seen amazing Instagram photos from foodie friends, so we figured it had to be good. I was drooling over a picture of a saucy, cheesy, crusty meatball sub, but what I got was a sad-sack cousin with no sauce and what appeared to be a tiny bit of melted cheese on the bottom. NOTHING like the photo they show. The bread was indeed crusty, but that was not enough to justify $13. The whole thing was rolled into a piece of paper even though we'd ordered to eat in. We literally ate one meatball and packed it back up to take it home, where we'll try to salvage it with our own sauce, cheese and toaster oven. The porchetta sandwich is gorgeous with its pink meat and green pesto, but the sandwich was surprisingly bland. The focaccia was obviously fresh, but the whole sandwich was so soaked in oil that it bled through the wax paper and left greasy smears all over our hands and the table. It was good, not great. And NOT worth $14. The house-made truffle chips in a little wax paper bag were greasy, not super crispy and overly salted. I've seriously had better chips at Mario's Fish Bowl and Wings Ole! Side note: The chairs at the high tops are child-sized and incredibly uncomfortable. The seats are so short they cut into the back of your thighs. I can't imagine how a larger person would even attempt to sit when an average-sized person like me couldn't wait to get out of it. (Maybe they don't want you to linger???) Honestly, I had high hopes for this place, and we always try to support local businesses. Last weekend, we went to the absolutely WONDERFUL Village Butcher, where the $12 sandwiches are incredible and worth every penny. But Nonno Carlo is going to have to improve its quality and lower its prices to survive long term. We are willing to pay for good food, but not mediocrity. Great food. Terrible service. I walked in for lunch today for a meatball sub. There were four other people in the restaurant. Two people already had their food. After waiting for over 15 minutes, I walked up to the counter to see about my sandwich. The two ladies who were happily chatting said "I don't know how we could've missed your ticket." You missed my ticket because you were too busy bullshitting with each other. I asked for a refund and left. Not going back. Good food doesn't mean anything if your service sucks. read more
