From the very beginning they were professional responsive and transparent about the design and construction project. Payman took the time to explain different design options in detail--outlining clear timelines, estimated costs, and how each plan would fit my goals and budget. His approach was thoughtful and collaborative, ensuring that every design decision made sense for my home's layout and potential. Throughout the process, communication was excellent. Payman and his team kept me updated on city approvals, vendor coordination, and project timelines. They were patient in answering all my questions and flexible with revisions as the design evolved. I truly appreciated their honesty, attention to detail, and commitment to quality. It's clear that Bay Area Design and Construction takes great pride in their workmanship and client satisfaction. I would highly recommend Payman to anyone looking for a reliable, skilled, and trustworthy design and construction team in the Bay Area.

The work was excellent, but what really impressed me was the follow-up. A year later, Payman sent his crew back just to handle the little adjustments that come with a house settling. Even years later, he's still helpful whenever I need to get in touch with one of his subcontractors for maintenance. Because of that trust, I hired him again last year for a major remodel of my vacation home, and he didn't disappoint me as always. Payman is easily the most responsive contractor I've worked with, he gets back to every email within 24 hours, no matter how complex the issue is. His project management is top-tier. The crew is respectful and polite, and they actually finished the job ahead of schedule. It's rare to find a contractor who is this efficient and actually stands by their work long-term. Highly recommended.

I was disappointed that this lot didn't work out but very happy to have managed cancelling, getting our full deposit back and continue our search for a project and/or property that meets our family needs and doesn't put us in a challenging predicament.  Thank you Paymun team and Ben for your knowledge & dedication to your profession!!!

We really liked their love for Oakland, and we stayed in contact as we prepared for the project. Laura was key in helping finally get our permit, and once we had that in hand and were able to move forward, BuildZig was incredible!! Here are some of the glows I share with people all the time about how unique and special BuildZig is as General Contractors: 1) High Integrity. All the way through the process, Carlos and his team were trustworthy and consistent in letting us know each step in the process. 2) Impeccable work. The crew took real pride in their work and added touches we would not have even thought of related to the aesthetics and lasting quality. 3) Stayed on budget & schedule!! Honestly -- these are two things that no one can believe when I tell them. Budget and schedule were really important to us. Our budget was tight. They met our goal of finishing our whole project in time for us to move back in after only three months! The expenses were predictable and easy to track. 4) Great communication. We had weekly meetings to track the project and troubleshoot any questions. 5) Values aligned. Carlos comes from a background in community organizing and it shows in the practice of the work. They care about the well being of all of the workers, our neighbors, the broader community in Oakland, and the environment. We can't recommend them enough. They are Gem in Oakland for sure.

They did the work in record time and did such a good job cleaning up after themselves that I almost did not notice they had been there (other than everything looked brand new and freshly painted!) We had no experience in renovating houses, but Michael guided us through the whole process. He took the time to understand our needs and make great recommendations. For example, Michael designed our kitchen skylight which was dated, and it turned out amazing. We love the modern look and the auto open/close feature recommended by Michael. We had a designer for our master bathroom in the beginning but decided we didn't need one for the rest of the house because Michael was like one. We loved all of his ideas and he also let us know when we had terrible ideas. Michael was also great at helping us manage the budget. Our house was a fixer upper, but not everything needed to be redone. For example, we didn't like the windows and were considering replacing them. But Michael recommended a fresh paint instead, which saved us a lot of money. Even after the house was done and we paid in full, Michael was still very responsible and came back a few times to make sure everything was perfect. We highly recommend Michael for your renovation projects. If you're looking for a general contractor who does amazing work and requires minimal supervision, Michael is the one!

Our initial contact was with Zume's sales manager Alan. He prepared a detailed quote explaining the scope of work and expected timetable. Zume provided more information and on a quicker basis than several other contractors we interviewed. For the project itself, we worked with Michael and Aaron. They both did a terrific job managing the construction. It was very important to us that the project progress quickly and efficiently, and they really came through! Michael was the overall GC. It's obvious he has lots of experience with construction in the Bay Area. He had great recommendations for outside vendors: for everything from lighting, to bathroom fixtures, to flooring and appliances. We also appreciated that he could handle the Title24 process (which allowed us to avoid dealing with another outside consultant). Aaron oversaw the day-to-day site management. We were a demanding client! He was very patient and responsive with the questions we sent on an almost daily basis. A major construction project is always stressful, and Zume's professionalism reassured us that we were in good hands. Michael and Aaron also did a great job coordinating with the city to ensure that the project was never held up because of failed inspections. Also, the buildertrend.com project management portal that Zume uses is a very convenient way to understand the status of the project and the schedule of progress payments. We are very happy with Zume's work on our project. We love the beautiful renovated home they helped us achieve!
