    I booked a 5 p.m. appointment with Denise and she canceled via text within 30 minutes of me booking appointment. Although she offered alternate times, I told her I could not make them because I was not local and would be flying out at the times she offered. Denise canceled the appointment but still took my deposit.

    Ok, so whenever I'm out of town I try to have as many local experiences as possible, and ain't nothing more local than getting your hair done. I know, chancey for sure because you don't know the stylists and they don't know you, but I took a leap on faith that Black women, no matter where you are, gonna lay that hair. I had to pick from a selection of stylists, which wasn't too hard since everyone had impeccable skill from their photos. I booked online which was super seamless. I think the most challenging part was articulating what I wanted done (which I think was also challenging for my stylist). However, in the end, she gave me exactly what I wanted and I feel super cute for the remainder of my NOLA trip. Thanks ladies for the lively entertaining conversations (which I stayed quiet through the whole time cuz ain't nothing worse than a newbie inserting themselves in shop business) and thank you Cori for your patience and execution. Anyone looking to get your hair done here, be versed in black beauty shop culture, and come to appreciate, not appropriate!

    I am a little late with this review because the damage is still impacting my hair. I came from out of town for jazz fest. I wanted a style for my locs. the first girl cousin not even show up on time and went in a coffee fun right after she got there. then she friend to overcharge me for a wash and section. I informed the owner and she assured me she could give me a style in no time the morning of the festival. she was also late. and insisted on using a tool to do my new growth. mind you, I just wanted a style. against my better judgement I ageeed. Now my locs are continuing to fall out because that tool cut my hair at the root....ive been growing my locs since my son passed away. there is no way im letting the owner Amber, get away with this. she won't respond to my texts, it's already cost over $1000.00 in visits with my regular loctitian to try to deal with the danage and she cries when she does my hair, we have been working in my locs for over 4 years together. if I could give less then 1 star I would. if you love your hair don't go here. And this is to key the owner know she can't hide from being served legal papers forever. I wish I could post a photo here. My roots are very thin and my loves come tinge to fall out. this is a warning. Don't go there.

    I've never had braids with the parts this large. Also, an hour later, the gel hasn't dried.

    Everyone was nice and the scheduling process was pretty easy, but I wasn't pleased with the results of my service. I scheduled large Marley twists, and it is my fault for not providing a picture, but it's a pretty standard style - so, I didn't think about it. After my hair was done, I realized the size relates to the size of the part and size of braid. Typically, if I've asked for medium or large twists, my hair was generally parted the same, just the size of the braids varied. Also, there is A LOT of gel in my hair. I can't touch my hair without getting gel on my fingers. For me, this is just a fail on a pretty basic hairstyle.

    Had an amazing experience at the Slidell salon and New Orleans location! I love that there are over 20 stylist to choose from! very easy online booking. I love the early morning 5am availability!

    This is why I rather go to the Africans to get my hair braided First of all, my Braider was a hour and a half late for my Appt. I scheduled my Appt for 6:30am. She call and txted me at 6am to tell me she was running behind I live and hour away from the shop, I was half way there. Then I asked her to make my med box braid full. She told me they was, I knew they wasn't because of how big she was parting my hair. I would never give this place my hard owned money again. I would go to Keyshia in her kitchen.     +3 stars for polite customer service and accommodating to client. -2 stars for lack of co$t disclosure prior and after service, not a fan of the wax shellack applied to maintain style. A visit to New Orleans provided the opportunity to have professional braids done as we lack this service in our Seattle neighborhood. A friend of the family recommended Nola Braids. Initial appointment requests made by texts, but after two days some miscommunication ensued requiring to reach out again. A Braider was assigned for Monday morning. Braider communicated readily the days prior and the morning of for start time of 8am. Braider texted at 7:45am to notify of an ETA of 8:15am. Approximately 8:30am the process began. For the the styles pictured below it was 4 hours and a total of $145 + 15% gratuity. Initial services of wash were not administered as they were already completed prior to visit. Blow drying and detangling services did apply. A wax, shellack type of agent was applied for r the maintenance of the style. The styling agent was a bit much. Not sure if that is the standard for all styles and hair types. Total amount was disclosed upon completion minus itemization of services. Public Compliments received of completed styles.

    NEVER DISAPPOINTED. Been going to this establishment for a couple of years now and always have had an pleasant experience. The staff is very friendly and personable. Answering the necessary questions needed to keep your hair protected. The owner Amber is very friendly and also have a amazing attitude. Morgan does my hair and she's very professional and what I ask her to do she's try her best to accommodate my family and I.

    First time

    I do not recommend this salon because they are very inconsistent. 3 times in a row, I booked medium box braids for my daughter, each time they were increasingly larger. This last time, they were fat, stiff, and messy. I will not be returning to this salon again to allow them to play on our heads and our faces. Two days before Christmas and I have to take these braids out because stylists want to bite off more than they can chew and do rush jobs. I have no pictures of the second time because they were unraveling before we left the salon, I had to add beads to keep them at least for Thanksgiving. If you are not one of their friends, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

For my first appointment, actually even before that, I had a consultation first where she assessed my hair and we discussed what I wanted and what could be done to it. I wanted a balayage situation with purple, but my hair is almost black so it would need to be lightened... gradually because my hair is damaged/thin so she wanted to be careful. My return appointment was an entire day affair thanks to the color lifting. The purple was amazing, however once I got home, I realized it didn't take in the back and there were some orange-y spots so I called the salon. Jessica spoke to me and insisted that I come back so that she could fix it. And I was there for another two hours at no charge. Ultimately there was a small bit of hair that did not take the dye and sometimes that's going to be the case. I still loved the results and literally got compliments wherever I went. I didn't even need touching up but I went back yesterday after four months and I don't know what she did differently but this color is a gorgeous, rich dark brown with slight purple highlights. And I am in love with my haircut, too (slight shaping and trim goes such a long way). Thanks to Jessica for being such an approachable, skilled stylist (check out her Youtube channel) and Sarah and the rest of the reception staff for being so nice. I'm so happy to have the Steel Magnolias salon of my dreams here in New Orleans!

    UPDATED REVIEW: unprofessional, inappropriate, disappointing…read more To give an update after my terrible haircut and the follow up, the salon owner, Amanda, reached out to me through both the Vagaro and Yelp reviews I left. Once again, I was so hopeful that things would be fixed after Taylor completely botched my bangs, but it turned out to be one of the worst experiences I've ever had (both with the haircut and the follow up). I'm so so disappointed that this was my experience with a supposedly great salon, but after the way Taylor, the stylist, butchered my bangs and how Amanda, the salon owner, not only talked to me but also how she handled the whole situation has been incredibly appalling and upsetting. For a quick timeline: I got a horrible haircut (see photos) that left me crying all weekend to the point I had to purchase fake clip in bangs, the salon owner left a comment on my original Yelp review that I had to report and get removed (the comment from her you see now is the 2nd one she posted), I no longer felt safe nor comfortable going back to the salon, the salon owner refused to refund me, she then blocked me on from messaging their social media business account and my phone number from calling, we never settled the matter, and Taylor the stylist also blocked me. Unfortunately that's where this story ends: with no refund, no answers, and no bangs. Below is my original review with no edits or changes. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I was so incredibly hopeful going into this appointment, but when I saw my actual haircut I just about burst into tears (of unhappiness and disappointment). The initial appointment request and follow up communication/service was exquisite, hence my high hopes. They asked for reference photos, appointment goals, and general questions about my hair. After I put in the request one of their employees followed up with times/dates I would prefer, which was a nice touch. Now going into the actual appointment, they were all very kind and sweet, and the salon itself seemed clean. I asked my stylist, Taylor, her thoughts on what would suit my hair after telling her my initial ideas/goals (cutting off dead ends, trimming my bangs a bit, and adding longer face framing pieces). She assured me fringe bangs would look great and started with a rough cut while my hair was dry. Atter that, she shampooed my hair and cut the rest while my hair was wet. Up until the end, it seemed as if she knew what she was doing, but when I actually got a close look at my bangs, it was quite apparent she has zero bang cutting experience.
