A little later, I asked for a glass of water, not realizing they had a self-serve water station. Instead of simply pointing me toward it, the bartender grabbed a glass, walked over, filled it with water, and brought it back to me. He could have easily told me where the water station was, but instead, he chose to take care of it himself. It was a small gesture, but it said everything about the level of hospitality here. It was also smoked but the smoke was very synthetic in flavor. Additionally some of the other cocktails ordered by the group were just of a much lower quality at Pastiche. A lot of the drinks were artificially sweet & had chamoy & tajin rims. I think these drinks are good for certain places in San Antonio but I've come to expect much better from Pastiche. The whole interaction felt sarcastic and like he was intentionally messing with her rather than trying to make her something she would enjoy. What bothered me most was the attitude behind it. We weren't being rude, demanding, or causing problems. We were there to have a good time and experience the whole "tell us what you like and we'll make you something" concept. I did call the number listed for the business afterward trying to speak to someone about it. The person who answered said I had the wrong number and didn't know what I was talking about. I got angry during that call and said some things I shouldn't have, and I can admit that. But that doesn't change how disappointing the experience at the bar was. We expected a creative and welcoming experience and instead left feeling like my wife had been mocked. I did appreciate seeing El Tesoro Reposado and Blanco on hand; always a good sign. I went with an Old Fashioned using the reposado, and my date had a Paloma with the blanco (based on a prep recommendation). Both were well-executed, and the bartender was accommodating and easygoing, which goes a long way. Service was smooth and quick, and we lucked out with seats at the bar at least for a while. Fair warning: around 11pm, they clear out the bar seating as the crowd builds. It shifts the energy again toward more of a standing-room, nightlife feel, but if you can snag one of the couches, you're in a good spot. Overall, Pink Shark has a lot going for it and even more potential. The speakeasy element is easily its strongest feature, and I'd love to see that identity pushed further especially with a deeper, more classic-leaning cocktail list (think Black Manhattan or a proper Boulevardier). It is near the River Walk but not on it. I found Lowcountry when searching for bars in San Antonio that sold pickled eggs. FYI, they don't anymore. I stuck up a conversion with Payton the bartender and they have not sold them for some time. Payton was super nice. You can get a bourbon and mini Miller High Life for $6. If you are looking for a laid-back spot with excellent value, Lowcountry is it.

Extremely disappointing experience at Cellar Mixology Bar in downtown San Antonio. During my visit,…read moresomeone grabbed my wrist and attempted to steal my Rolex while I was talking to my friend. What was even more upsetting was the response from security afterward. Instead of feeling helped or protected, I felt ignored and dismissed. The lack of urgency and concern from security was unacceptable. Guests should be able to feel safe when they go out, and I do not feel that my safety was taken seriously. I will be taking the appropriate steps to address this matter, including exploring legal action regarding security negligence!!!!
