I have been spoiled with Richmond's different style of chicken and waffles. I would like to come here again and try out the other listed options on their menu (like the Mugshot sandwich that my husband ordered and didn't share with me... "Thanks" Jack). I found this location on Yelp while visiting one of my close friends in Clayton. We spend the night in NC before our beach trip down to Myrtle. I ordered their chicken and waffle and was informed of the 15 min wait. It came after our table's order and I will admit that I was sadly disappointed. It was a chicken patty on top of two smaller waffles. It did come with two different dipping sauces (the syrup and a bbq flavored one). I wouldn't recommend this dish for those coming out of town. I'd like to give this another try whenever we are in the area again and will be ordering the mugshot sandwich. Stopped by here based on the reviews and this is a great place to eat. Friendly and fast service, great food (especially the French toast) and good atmosphere. You tried this location out last week having moved from Raleigh to Clayton. We like to sometimes get out in the morning and try new coffee spots the ugly mug proved to be pretty amazing we ordered we got our number we sat down and a few moments later, our coffee was brought to us and our sandwiches, for the first time being there it was a great experience. Just a few tips: 1. use a thermometer when steaming. I've had everything from lukewarm to scalding hot, Where I couldn't taste anything for 2 days after burning my tongue. 135-140 F is the norm. 2. Use real peanut butter. Even if you have to charge an extra 25 cents. It makes a Huge difference in taste. read more

This place is so unique. If you thought this was your typical coffee shop. You would be wrong. Not only is this place aesthetically pleasing with the steampunk gears and the wine contraption behind the counter. The menu is awesome! It's always full of people. This is absolutely my new favorite place to hang out. Without a doubt the very best coffee that I've had in an exceptionally long time and that's a lot coming from a relocated New Yorker! The staff are incredibly friendly and very responsive and always greet you with a warm smile. The avocado toast is delicious and just the perfect snack to help push me through my day. Their breakfast sandwiches have become a regular weekend enjoyment for me and my friends after our morning run or a work out at the gym and I've now convinced my boss to make it a stop on our prospecting workdays as it is busy, but never too loud to have an important conversation. This is my favorite coffee and breakfast/lunch place in Garner. They have an awesome variety of coffee drinks which they offer cold or hot. My personal favorite food to get here are their waffles. They are fluffy and have a delicious sugar crunch. Perfect balance of sweet and savory! They offer them in a sampler that includes eggs and sausages and/or bacon. My new favorite menu item is their wafflewich which is, you guessed it, a delicious breakfast sandwich made with waffles, eggs, cheddar cheese and your choice of sausage or bacon. If you want two (bc, seriously, one is not enough) you can get one of each. If you don't like waffles, they offer breakfast tacos, and regular sandwiches. The first time I was here I ordered the yogurt and granola parfait. The vanilla yogurt they used, paired with honey, made this particular menu item too sweet for me. Their lunch choices ("Mugwiches") are also good. My son has ordered their version of a BLT and he said it was delicious. The baristas are friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is quick. I went to Ugly Mug this week for the first time! My family and I actually went to Ugly Mug per a local patron's recommendation, and I was super excited to get in and see what the fuss was about! We arrived, and the local coffee shop was buzzing with people and we placed our order and sat pretty quickly. Drinks came up immediately and I was pleased with my frozen sticky toffee drink, and I couldn't wait for the food! The food came out about 5 minutes later, very quick! This is where it begins to get hairy: there were three ladies behind the barista counter, and all three of them acknowledged the food was there but all three continued to make drinks and do other various things behind the counter. Two looked particularly busy, but one was fiddling with what appeared to be a phone and other things underneath the counter. I understand if there's an order to how things are done, but nobody wants to watch their piping hot food sit behind the counter for 7+ minutes (yes, I timed it). The only reason they even brought our food is because my dad got up to ask if that was our order behind the counter. My biscuit was completely cold, and I was going to send my plate back, but what's the point if they are just going to throw it away/let the new food sit in the window for another 7 minutes? I decided to order a little more food, hopeful that the experience might be different. I stood in line, waiting for the cashier to greet me/ask if I wanted to order but instead we had a staring contest... is it typical Ugly Mug customer service to not ask to take my order? I know you do ask customers how they are/if they'd like to order/etc because a man came in after me and all three women piped up to greet him and hastily take his order. My food actually came to me not too long after it left the kitchen this time and I was grateful because it was delicious and HOT! :) I'm saying all this to say there are insane inconsistencies in service here. It was my first time and I had pretty awful service, despite the food being good. I don't like to jump to conclusions and say I was treated differently because of how I look, but when other people receive their food ASAP and are greeted/acknowledged when ordering food, it seems like my appearance might have something to do with it. My money spends the same way as anyone else's does! Not sure if I'll be back because while those fries were stellar and unique, the service was selective and cold. read more

I wanted to love this place: it has an awesome industrial vibe, the service is friendly, the seating options are nice, and it felt clean and inviting. Unfortunately, I had to knock off 2 stars for the food. The menu looked super creative and fun, but the quality of the food was sub-par. Flavors were somewhat bland and the some of the ingredient combinations just didn't work. Ordinarily, I would have only taken off 1 star for sub-par food at a place where coffee is the main event and food is just an added bonus...but in this case, the food also took a VERY long time to come out. It was not crowded and we were the only ones in line, and yet our food took nearly 30 minutes to come out. That's unacceptable for a quick bite kind of place.
